Notebook Ata To Sata Adapter

Does such a thing exist? And if so, would i also need a separate adapter for different power plugs? I have an older powerbook g4 that i'd like to update with a new, faster hard drive and there don't seem to be many around that are ata.

Ide (ultra Ata) To Serial Ata Adapter - How Will It Work?

I just bought a brand new 120 gb 7200rpm samsung sata hard drive to replace my 80gb maxtor 5400rpm ata hard drive because it was acting up and i decided to get a new one. Anyways, i just got it in the mail and to my dissapointment i have ide connections and a ata interface/motherboard. I looked online to find an adapter and i did find a few but dont know which one/kind to get. I dont want to buy a new motherboard or a 80$ sata card or anything. I have ultra ata and want to connect my serial ata hardrive to it. But these adapters im looking at i think work for serial ata motherboards to hook to ultra ata hardrives. Or can it work the other way around? I think i got the jist of it and can hook it up if i did get one. Can i use my ide cable to hook onto the 40 pin adapter slot then the other end into my motherboard or does it have to go somewhere else. Im just a little confused thats all from a picture i saw on a website that hooked one up. Can anyone help me here?

Sata Vs. Ata Harddrives

My kid's harddrive crashed and burned yesterday. The damm wdigital 120gig drive i purchased in 2004 apparently only had a 1yr warranty (i swear the damm box said 3yr warranty. I don't buy drives with 1yr). So it's out of warranty. My question. Anyone know of western digital trying to pull a fast one like this (about changing 3yr to 1yr warranties)?

Secondly, i found a 300gig maxtor at office depot for $50bucks (after rebate). No way in *** the kid is gonna use all that. But if i update the kid's system in a couple of years will an ata hard drive work with the new sata motherboards? I know it's only $50bucks, but still!

Or. I have an old seagate 8. 2gig drive i could put into the system. But with winxp taking 1gig and most of these damm kid games using up about 300-500megs each. Well that space would be gone in no time flat.

Sata 2.5 To 3.5 Adapter

I am trying to unlock a seagate momentus notebook 2. 5" drive. http://hdd-tools.com/products/rrs/howto/ the program i am using to unlock the drive requires the drive to be hooked up directly to the motherboard, so enclosures will not work. Does anyone know where i can find a 2. 5" to 3. 5" sata adapter?

Sata To Ethernet Adapter

I'm building a network cabinet (home use) and just about finished it and wanted to add a ssd drive to the panel. I'd like this ssd drive to connect directly to my network using a gig ethernet adapter. Does anyone know if there is such a beast available? I'm looking for the smallest possible solution. If this allows remote ftp access, so much the better. The only thing i've seen so far are 3. 5" docking adapters that you drop the hard drive in.

1tb Freeagent Sata Adapter

I've decided to pass on my externals 5 year warranty because it worked 1 year perfect, this means it will in the future and i don't use it too much anyway. I've hardly managed to open the enclosure and i want the sata hdd inside replaced, because it's full of backup and it's place is in the closet. The thing is, i want to buy a larger hdd to take it's place inside, a 1. 5tb or preferable but i don't know if it will be supported by the sata adapter inside. Some friends say it should be possible 90%, but i can't be sure of that because i've seen on the market separate enclosures with gb or tb limit on the specs. I've tried this before putting a smaller hdd, but never a larger so i'm afraid that i'll buy for nothing a new hdd that won't work. I don't have a pc, only a laptop so i can't risk having it on my desk doing nothing. I'm out of money to buy another external, because the $ difference between that and internal is pretty big in my country and i also don't have a job anymore. If anyone knows if this is possible to support or if anyone out there ever tried this before, even on lower combinations (eg: 750gb hdd on 500gb enclosure) please let me know.

Installing With A Serial Ata Hard Drive

A friend recommended i buy a sata hd with my new computer. Now i can't get my operating system floppies and cd to recognize it. In my bios it says my primary master and primary slave ides are blank. My secondary master is my cdrom and my secondary slave is my zip drive. The 120gb sata drive is at third master. It recognizes it in bios as a hard drive when i did a hd detection. I am trying to install like this: i have a win98 boot floppy that i put in first. I run fdisk to create a dos partition and then put in a win98 cd and install win98. After win98 is installed, i put in my win2000 upgrade cd and upgrade the os to win2000. So it seems like it's not creating a dos partition on the right drive but when i ran format c:, it formatted a 120gb hd. And i have no idea what other drive it would be creating a dos partition on. But when i put the win98 cd in the drive and run setup.exe, it says i need at least 735909909 bytes of space to install windows.

Ata / 100 Harddrives Not Running At Full Speed

Two of my systems at home (one windows, on linux) each have two hard drives installed. The problem being that the secondary hard drive on each machine is only being used in udma mode 2. These drives shold be functioning in udma mode 5. I have been through the hardware device configuration on the windows xp machine. I can only toggle between pio and udma modes, i cannot increase the speed of udma modes. Thus, my second wd harddrive always reports udma mode 2. I am using an asus p4p800 mobo, and according to the specs, both channels will run at udma 5. I want it at 5, dag nabbit!?

Now for the linux machine. You'll notice i have both drives on the same channel for this one, but i still have the same issue. The primary drive is working at udma mode 5, while the secondary drive is only at udma mode 2. Shouldn't they both be in mode 5? I've been using hdparm to try and force the drive, but it will always fall back to udma mode 2. I can't figure it out. At first, i thought the hdd cables weren't capable of reaching ata/100, but they indeed are the right cables in both machines. I've even switched the drives around in each machine to see if anything would change. No matter what i do on either machine, the secondary drive is always defaulting to udma mode 2.

Internal Sata Blu Ray Drive Plugged Into Sata

Alright, i'll make this short and sweet. I want to free one of my sata ports up so i can install another hard drive. My motherboard has a built in esata port on the back. Is it as simple as moving my blu ray sata cable to the esata jack on the back? Aesthetics mean nothing, this computer is hidden.

Usb To Sata Adapters For Storage Rather Than Buy Sata Cards

I've read here where people need to buy raid cards or pci, sata cards to add more hard drives to their system. Well i am in the same boat, i have 2, 30g vertex in raid, 3, 1. 5tb samsung, and 1 sata dvd drive. All my sata ports are full and a sata card costs. Idk more than 50 bucks i guess. Why can't we just use usb to sata adapters? The speed is relatively the same, at least for just xfer of files and streaming. It can be put internally, and it's cheap. Usb to sata adapter kits usually consist of the usb to sata adapter cable and a separate power-brick for sata to outlet. You can buy just the usb to sata adapter for 1$ from overseas with free shipping. Mount some usb headers internally to plug a few of these cables and run the sata power from your regular power-supply, it can handle.

So whats the thought behind this? It can be relatively hidden(i like clean cases and you can hide most anything) is a cheap solution to an expanding computer case (can't usb do like 126 devices?) And speeds are pretty good. Again this is for internal installation, you would use your power-supply for power, and 1$ per hard drive for the usb to sata adapter. I have a spare 750 and 2x 500 segates lying around and a lian li v2000 (abs clone) i got the space, just don't have the connections! Thoughts?

Can't Boot From Sata Cdrom And Can't Find Sata Hd

Last night i built my dad a new computer, with two sata dvd-drives (but can only connect one with one of my sata cables. Apparently the motherboard manufacturer only likes to include one sata cable. My fault for ordering oem and not checking on the cable quantity. ), A wd sata hard drive and an ecs nforce 570 slit-a motherboard. Anyway, when i boot up with the windows xp cd in the dvd drive, it won't detect the drive and boot from the cd. Ok, i thought i might have that problem (never dealt with sata drives besides hd's), so i just plugged in an ide cdrom, but now it won't find the hd.

I've put raid drivers from ecs on a disk as well as wd sata drives on a disk and hit f6 when prompted in the winxp boot screen. The ecs drivers did nothing for me and the wd drivers said something about it being corrupt or something of the sort (sorry, can't remember exactly. So i've had no luck. I've also tried plugging in the original ide hd from his old computer but it immediately restarts when it should start loading windows. I had to go to sleep because i have work today, so i didn't fiddle around with it too much more than what i've explained above, and that's where i am now so i won't get to try anything for awhile.

Sata 150 Vs. Sata 2

I'm building my new computer, and i was wondering. Western digital makes a 10, 000rpm sata 150 hard drive. Although this is a super fast drive speed, i'm not sure the transfer rates can back it up. Would running 2 sata 150 10, 000rpm drives in raid 0 be faster than 2 sata ii 7, 200rpm.

3. What scc would you recommend? The more sata ports the better.

I'm looking at picking up a pair of speakers for my mp3 player (not ipod).
