Invisible Files On Hdd

When i open the drive i don't see any files that i've already stored. But when i click on properties it shows 282gb used. Can someone help me find these invisible files.

Thumb Drive Files Are Invisible
All of a sudden, my kingston 16gb data traveler i is giving me problems. I can't see any files or folders, but the properties shows 10gb used, which is accurate. I copied a file this morning via right-click > send to, and when i got to my office, that was all i could see, and the same with when i got home. I don't want to write any more to it, just in case i might overwrite some existing files, but i don't think that would be the case. By the way, files and folders are not "hidden", from a windows file system settings perspective. Any suggestions?

Saving Files At Specific Sectors On Hdd
I suspect some bad sectors were formed on one of my partitions. I think that they are formed in the 1st part (out of three parts). Now how can i avoid this part and save files only on the other 2 parts?

One Of My Partitions Are Invisible
Since i used powerquest partitionmagic 8. 0 today, one of my partitions are invisible. I've been using partition magic since years now and i never had this problem before. I was creating a new partition (file system: linux ext2) to be able to install the linux operating system. Once i applied the changes, it started the operations and then a minute later it said: "unable to allocate fat32. ". Something like that. Since then, my e: isn't visible. I tryed chkdsk, and scandisk too. Now i'm doing a surface scan and i don't know if that will work. I hope someone could help me fix this problem because i have alot of important stuff there.

Invisible Hard Drive
I intalled a new 250gig(3g/s) sata hdd in my computer previously running off a 74 g sata raptor. But the darn drive doesnt even show up in my computer. It shows up ok in the bios. Also in the device manager. But no trace of it in 'my computer'. I re-installed the sata drivers. No change. Any clues.could the drive be dead?

How To Format An Invisible Hard Drive
My computer, one of those shuttle mini's, is getting a little boggy so i figured it's about time to formatt the ol drive and clear those pesky dll's with no place to go out. I did this every year with win95, and 98. I run win xp pro now and this is my first time formatting with it. Here's my problem: i tried to format using the bootable cd (that i own) of xp pro. Following duncans post earlier and those incredibly clear directions (kuddos). I got to the part where it asked which disk/ partitions i would like to use. The box shows 2 partitions but also said no disks found? Checking my bios for the hard drive it says no drives detected? "0's" in every value.contacted the guys who put this computer together and they wont answer my questions. I guess i should have paid for that extended warranty, sign. I cant fathom how my computer works ok and i cant get the bios or the xp formatting tool to see the hard drive. Note: i disabled the sata/raid in the bios and the computer wont boot. Or it will boot through the post then ask for a bootable cd: i didnt go any farther and returned the settings to enable. I only have the one hard drive so i thought disabling the sata/raid in the bios would be a way to avoid seeing that during the post. I'm thinking there is a way/ technique to install a hard drive and not have it show up anywhere. I've asked around to all my friends who know a lot more than i but they all say they know of no way to do this. Hard Drive Is Invisible In My Computer
I have recently installed a second hard drive. Bios detects it no problem, device manager detects it no problem, but it is invisible in "my computer". I have had slave hard drives before so its nothing to do with not having enough room for ide controllers. Theres no stupid rule that the master has to have more capacity than the slave because my master is 120gb but my slave is 250gb.

Transfer Data Including Windows Xp From Old Hdd To New Hdd
Im getting a new 250gig sataii hard drive, with 16mb cache. Just like to know if there is any simple way of transferring all my old stuff on the current drive onto this new drive without too much trouble. Like is there a way of transferring the whole os (windows xp), all the progs and stuff onto this new hdd through an image or in an easy way?

Laptop Hdd To Desktop Hdd
I have a toshiba laptop hdd (numbers on the disk are hdd2616 & mk2101man) which as far as i'm aware works. Needless to say i no longer have the laptop. I need to get all the data off and was hoping there was a usb solution. Can anybody help?

Old Files To New Pc
I have an old mates pc with a load of data on it. It is win 98, but is totally crapped and wont boot to windows properly. It has (ide) a 4gb hdd which is c:/ with the boot bit on it and a 60gb hdd which is e:/ with files on it (he also copied the files to c:/ as backups, so i can use that as the backup was only a few days old when it messed. I think the cd (d:/) is primary slave, c:/ is primary master and e:/ is secondary master. I also have a computer i can put the old hard drives into to get the data off running dual boot linux rh9 and win 95a. Which is the best way to get the files off, and onto my network to another computer with a cd-rw? The dual boot pc has network on both linux and windows running correctly. Does 95 support 60gb hdd? If i boot a bootable hdd in a pc as slave will it boot correctly (i assume it would unless you set the bios)? Shall i mount it on linux or get it on windows?
I sorta have two goes at this, but the data musnt be lost, as i can try with the 4gb and the 60gb if need be. This might sound a bit stupid but i don't want to risk it for failure.

I know this has been asked 100 times, ive googled it and everything, but i haven't been on the forums recently i was wondering if anyone has figured out a way to get my save files off ( i don't have the ps3 anymore so fixing the ylod wont work)

If you have a scanner, place them on. Then open my computer, click on the printers/scanners (towards the bottom) and it will launch a program which will save them to the location you want. So i got this cd player (i depended on mp3 player until it broke), and i found out i could write my own cds, so i tried using windows media player 10 (the newest) and i got this error.code: c00d119f: cannot burn files to cd. How Do You Recover Hidden / Restricted Files From A Hd ?
I am trying to recover data from a hard drive which was on a laptop that is no longer functional. I am able to mount the drive and access it and pull off almost all of the data using a pcmci card and adapter. However some of the files were located on the desktop and hidden/restricted by the user for security purposes and now they cannot be accessed. I have tried to change the folder properties so that it is no longer hidden. However it is not working because access is denied. I am running windows xp and the drive which i am trying to recover the data from was running windows xp. I think the reason access is being denied is due to the fact that i am not logged on as the original user. But i'm not sure. I have created a user same that matches the account i am try to access on the old hd. No success. I have tried to copy the file onto a cd. No success. Can i boot off of the old drive even though it was configured for another computer (is there a chance it will damage the hardware of the laptop)? And can i do it using the pcmci card?
If so how do i go about doing this? Will i have to take the other hd out? Any suggestions to work around this problem?

External Drive Hidden Files
I have an external drive via usb my friend unplugged mid transfer he said. Now when he plugs it in there is no files to see. A good chunk of the drive is used however. Enabling hidden files shows the recycle bin etc but i cannot access. Any idea how to recover his files etc?

Backing Up Files To An External Drive
I was just wondering what most people do? This is mainly going to be important docs and pictures. Should i use zip archives? Just use regular folders and add as needed? I have acronis true image home 2009 so i could set that up for my pictures library, however, i will probably keep the external in a fire box when not in use. I'm just starting to realize i have too many pictures(family, baby, first home, etc. ) That are located on a single drive, kinda scary.

Are there any docs, articles, or threads/posts regarding file performance at the end of a hard drive (edge of the platters)? Is faster access at the edge of the platters or the center? I read at the edge but i'm not sure why. I am thinking the center would rotate data under the heads fastest, but that's why i wanted the article to read up.

Unable To Delete The Files Problem
Basically lately i'm unable to delete the files way too often without needing to use unlocker program because it doesn't let me do it otherwise. Mainly with video files, not entirely sure about others at the moment. One example: i delete the file, it disappears. Later i look in the folder the file is back, shows the full file size but doesn't play when opened. When trying to delete it again i get the cannot delete the file error i.e. Access denied, make sure the disk is not full or write-protected and that the file isn't currently in use. The unlocker program shows severl instances of the explorer.exe that have locked it. This file disappearing/reappearing thing has happened couple of times, mainly it gives the error message right away. So with symptoms like these, is it a sign of the hdd dying or is the windows just messing up?

I use an old pc for my htpc it is a p4 2. 4ghz with a gig of ram, compro tv tuner & 9600xt running vista ultimate. It does everything superbly except play mkv files. The audio is %100 ok but the video will lag a lot especially when there is lots of movement. This is in mp / mpc & vlc. I think i have the right codecs would this be my pc just isn't powerful enough or a software issue?

I have a wireless network at home with windows xp professional on my pc and my laptop. The problem is that when i try to view the shared folders on one from the other some times they work perfectly and can see them all other times they don't and can't see them at all. I can't see why this is happening, there is some one else in my house who has a mac and she can connect to my pc or laptop all the time with out any problems, is there something i am not doing correctly with windows xp to get it working over the network?

Pc Restarts When Runs .exe Files
Sometimes then i try to run .exe files (winamp, games etc) my pc restarts like its out of electricity, it happens not always but it does, sometimes. Sometimes then i try to install something i also have these strange restarts. Example: i have a laptop (which is weaker then pc) and never had a restart on hittman:blood money game, on pc - restart after restart. Tried to format my pc like 5 times and no luck. Used "fresh diagnostics" software to stress my pc, left it on for 3hrs and no restarts no errors so what the *** is wrong?
I forgot to mention that often running .exe files, they just crash to desktop. On my laptop same games, software never crashes, but on my pc they do. For example i can play civilization 4 for weeks on laptop, but on pc after ~5min - bam, crash to desktop, even using photoshop i sometimes experiencing crashes. Is this somehow related to hardware failures or what?

How to scan files with dell scanner/printer/copy/fax? I have a dell printer that can copy, fax and scan. I want to scan a file onto the computer for school, but i don't have it installed on the computer. I try to install the wizard but it says i need a camera to be connected and stuff. Before i had my computer reformatted i could do this because it was already on here. But now i cant and i wanna know how to install the scanner without the use of having a camera.
