Restore Windows Xp To Factory Settings On Dell Desktop
Restoring windows xp to factory settings on a dell desktop. My family's desktop computer is riddled with viruses, so need to restore it to factory settings. All data backed up. With my old laptop i did the restoring thing a couple of times - in start up mode you press f11 i believe? But that was a sony, does that still work with dell?
I know sometimes you need a disc to reinstall windows xp but am not sure if the computer came with one (it's very old), and if it did, i doubt i'd be able to find it!

Why my computer (dell inspiron 580) wont show up restore factory setting image? When my computer restart and boot up while i press f12 repeat, then select and i select "repair your computer" and waiting for loading window and finaly show up. Then click next and i type password then click to next and now the menu don't show up "recovery factory setting image" from the last select. It weird. At 2 month ago "recovery factory setting" show up and now dont show up. Also i dont have a disc for a reinstalled window 7. And how can "restore factory setting" to show up again on my computer?

I have a dell dimension 2400. I bought a radon 9250 pci card but it will not reconize that the card is even installed in the motherboard. I returned the video card. Which cards are compatable with this machine? And how do i get them to work. My system setup shows the vireo set to auto. I got no help from dell. Just a run around. They tried to tell me i would have to buy an "external slot" that is what customer service in india told me.

Dell Dimension 2400 Total Ram Issue
A friend of mine started having issues with their computer after they installed a new hard drive (things going really slow), so i told him i would take a look at it. It's a dell dimension 2400, and looking around, it looks like the specs of it should be pc2700 1 x 512 mb ram. However, looking at the bios it says there is a total memory of 97280k, also, when xp boots up, and i right click "my compter", it also says their is 97 megs of ram. Another thing i noticed is when it boots up and detects the ide devices, it says it's ddr333 (pc3200), however, when i enter dell's service tag, it says i need ddr466 (pc3700). So i'm a little confused, did dell mess up and put wrong memory stick in, or are bios and xp wrong? Also, why would it start acting slow after replacing the harddrive? I've tried running memtest, but for some reason it didn't work for me. It wouldn't boot from the cd (it would just hang).

Currently, the pc uses intel (r) 82845g/gl/ge/pe/gv graphics controller which is extremely old and slow. Which video cards are compatible with dell dimension 2400? Dell Dimension System Restore
I have a dell dimension 2400 and the way that dell tells me to do a complete system restore isn't working. They say at start up to press the ctrl + f11 buttons and this will give me the option to rest to factory settings. However, when i do i get a keyboard not working correctly error. So, is there a better way to restore my settings or is there some way to download a system restore cd. How can i fix this problem. P. S. Whenever i press f1 or f12 those keys do what they should, the ctrl+f11 does not.

My hp d220 has a virus and i'm sure it's wiped my harddrive. Is there any way to factory restore it with a cd? I had an hp computer and it came with disks to restore it to its factory settings check all the disks that came with the computer. Factory Restore Partition Gateway Laptop
I have a gateway mx6426 laptop. These machines have a d: partition that contains files for doing a factory restore. It also comes with a utility that allows you to create a recovery dvd. When i fist purchased the machine, i created a recovery dvd, using the built-in utility. Now, when i try to create a recovery dvd, i get the error:
"No recovery partition or update cd files found. Process aborted. "
Turns out, i'm not alone. Others have posted in forums requesting help on this one. However, i've yet to find an answer. Since my gatway laptop was a refurb, and my serial number is part of a series of refurb machines that aren't in their database, they will not provide technical support to me (unless i opt to wield the mighty credit card). Gateway support, did however, tell me that they know the solution to the problem - they just won't say what it is. So, anyone out there know this one?
From gateway's response, i'm guessing they put the recovery dvd creation utility on some type of timer or rigged it so that you can only run it once. i.e. I figure they've purposely limited the use of this until. Of course, that's only a theory.

Dimension 4700 System Restore
I recently acquired a dell 4700 stock configuration. The problem is the previous owner wiped out the partition containing the restore image - ctrl f11 on boot up. I have all of the disks - is there any way to recreate this partition?

I am getting a error on my dell dimension c521 i am getting loading pbr descriptor 2. Done
Press ctrl+alt+del to restart

Dimension e521 system restore. I want to go back to the pc's factory defaults because my system is very instable. Does anyone know which button to press to enter this 'restore to factory defaults screen'. It used to be ctrl+f11 in win xp, but i don't know what it is with vista. A friend of mine said it is now f8, but that doesn't do anything either. Would it be the same if i entered the bios and system restored from there? Or does that delete the os as well?

Dimension 3000 System Restore
System restore on dell dimension 3000. ?
I tried to do a system restore on a dell desktop - dimension 3000. I rebooted and did the ctrl+f11 @ the screen with the blue bar. It went into the whole thing about "losing all data and backing up the files". I clicked the continue button. Then it went to a black screen with a flashing cursor in the top left and then did nothing else for 15 min. I restarted the computer and am now back to the windows desktop. Why will this not work?
Additional details:-
I tried to do the system restore, but the only restore point available is today, about an hour ago. I need something before that point, but they are not available. That is why i tried the restore. I did it to my laptop and it worked great, but the desktop is giving me problems. Any suggestions?

This is a relatives system that did not have a pop up blocker or anti virus protection on it since march of 2006. A free internet "house call" revealed that there are over 100 malware type programs on it. Extra toolbars and adware are evident. At this point i don't think norton or mcafee will be able to correct all problems. I believe i have all of the restore disk but i am not sure. Due to the nature of the problem i was unable to restore it to a "set point. " I tried tapping f12 on start up. I was taken to a menu that listed 7 things i believe.system restore was not an option on that menu. I didn't think it would be, as it came with all of the restore disks. Presently i have 8 disks i believe to be restore disks. How do i restore this machine?
