Notebook Randomly Restarts
Replies: 2 | Post Date: 2 months ago | User: A Little Piece Of He | Forums: answers.yahoo.comMy hp pavilion tx2500cl notebook with vista has been having some really weird problems. The computer is a lil over a year old so it's not too bad. I always use a fan thing under it to prevent it from overheating. I use advanced system care and superantispyware to clean it. Problem: it'll randomly restart for no reason. No matter if i'm on the internet or on word or whatever else. Another thing is that the integrated webcam doesn't work anymore. Whenever i attempt to use it, it freezes up my whole computer and then my computer won't shut down. That's another thing, sometimes it just doesn't shut down even when i click on shut down or type in the command for it. Sometimes it chooses not to start. I have no idea what it could be. I really don't know alot about computers so please help me out! :) I don't play games or anything on it. I just use it for internet, word and music. I have like 4000 songs, 10 videos (5 min vids and 2 movies) and like 1000 pictures, could that be the problem? Could it be a virus? Also, i download torrents using kickasstorrents.com and utorrent software, could that be the problem?

I recently formatted my computer with xp and now its freezing and restarting randomly. I doubt that its a virus or trojan because there is nothing installed except the window updates. Before it restarts a blue error screen flashes, but it's too fast for me to see what it saids. My geforce 8800gtx idles at 70c, is that a normal temp? If you need any more info just ask.

Computer Restarts Randomly In Windows 7
This problem i'm having has utterly stumped me. I'm pretty pc tech savvy and i've gone through all the normal means to solve/resolve this problem but here it goes. I have a newly built (and recently rebuilt) system using 'some' of the same hardware (hd, mb and processor are the same, everything else is new) and i'm getting a restart issue that happens somewhat at random. I'll explain somewhat later but for the most part, its completely random and i do not get a blue screen of death. Anyways, the new computer specs are as followed. Specs:
-Windows 7 home premium 64-bit (fresh install)
-Intel core i5 processor 750 @ 2. 67ghz
-Msi p55-gd65 motherboard (stock/standard installation, no overclocking)
-2 ddr3-1333 2gig sticks of memory (4 total)
-Geforce gts 250 1gb ddr3 (upgraded from a geforce 8600 gtx 512meg)
-250gig maxtor hd
*Description of problem/history*
This restarting issue occurred soon after i upgraded my mainboard/processor/memory combination. (I don't get the bsod) the problem typically happens when i'm downloading something, browsing the net or using the avg virus scan feature.rarely happens when the pc is just idle. Note: using large programs such as photoshop, playing games like wow or oblivion typically do not trigger this restart problem. I can play for hours perfectly fine. But i can do a cold boot into windows, open firefox and look at one page on cnn and the pc restarts after a total of 4 minutes being on. Now, when the restart occurs, it just blanks the monitor for a few seconds and i see the boot screen again followed by a "do you want to boot into safe mode" screen afterwards. On occasion, the system will freeze instead of restart causing the speakers to blare static/white noise (this happens when i'm watching a dvd, avi file, youtube video, etc. ) And a forced reset is required. I have taken the following measures thus far. -Occasionally the date/time needs to be reset/fixed from a sudden restart. I've replaced the cmos battery with a new one with no resolve. -I've had the 2 ddr3 memory sticks tested 3 times using the vista memory tester at system start-up. Tests came back with no issues/errors. -Upgraded the older 550watt power supply to 650watt ps. No change
-Brand new mid-tower case with 2-220mm fans and 2-180mm fans with great circulation.core temp is steady around 110*f no change (pretty sure it was never an overheating issue)
-Called up msi tech support (still under warranty) and we performed a main-board bios update (no resolve) and a few system tests and the tech deemed the mb to be working as intended. I'm looking for any suggestions/tips or retracing any steps that i have missed in my quest to resolve this annoying issue. One tech site suggested that it could be the hard drive causing these problems but several system scans report that there are no bad sectors. I've attempted to us maxblast 5 to make a hd disk image and transfer to new 500gb hd. Image was created just fine but restart/freeze occurs every time on "restore" process. 6 months ago additional details *update*
Forgot to mention, i've disabled the "automatic restart" under system failure option. I'm running win7 with current patches/updates. I've ran a registry cleaner and cleaned things up a bit. All no resolve. Addition bit of information is that when my does does suddenly restart, the boot up takes longer than normal as the boot text has to slowly detect each of my 4 sata hard drives. After the final one, i see for a mere split second a system recovered error message that i have yet to time perfectly with the /pause/break/ key on my keyboard. 6 months ago: aniceto* video card is brand new *2 weeks old* yet problem has been present on both old/new card for approximately 4 months. I did perform a similar suggest memory cleaning test back in early jan but as stated above, problem occurred on a brand new mb, memory, processor purchase prior to it accumulating dust. Thanks for suggestions, got any more?

Computer Randomly Restarts Cause Of Cpu Temperature
Just trying to see what an optimal temperature for a computer should be. I came across a computer that randomly restarts, once restarted, it'll still work again for awhile, but then restart again. In the bios, it's detecting the cpu temp at 85 c (or 170-185 f) and the mb temp is showing roughly 40 c (which i figure is good), the cpu temp is what i'm wondering about. This is a p4 3. 4ghz running win xp pro.

Continuous Restarts
My machine has just today started totally freaking out - it will restart unexpectedly, and it is constantly giving me the ms "program xxx has encountered an error and must close" window for any number of programs (atitool, ccc, system restore, firefox, all sorts of things), and then restarting again, this started after i tried to turn off the machine (via start menu) and it would just restart instead. I can't find any odd processes running, and i even defragged just yesterday. I tried safemode and ran avast virusscan to look for viruses, and it even restarted then. I can't get through a scan w/o a restart. I'm totally perplexed - i build this system from scratch in january and this is the first and only thing that has gone awry that i haven't been able to pinpoint within minutes. Any ideas? Hardware failure? It's currently up and running for ~ an hour w/o issues but i'm not at all convinced the gremlin has departed.

New Pc Auto Restarts
Was hoping to get some insight on why my new pc i just built, automatically restarts from time to time. . Um, i think that's all the relevant info, let me know if i'm leaving anything out. Anyways, it runs beautifully 95% of the time. But occasionally, at ostensibly random times, it will just restart. Sometimes, it's in the middle of playing a game. Sometimes, it's at night when i'm asleep, and there are no tasks running at all. Sometimes, it's when i'm reading e-mail. It restarts, then i get the simple windows error message, "the system has recovered from a serious error. " And this happens maybe 2-3 per week, since i built the pc a month ago. I doubt this will help, but if anyone can interpret the error signature. Its "bccode :
100000d1 bcp1 : 1000a8dc bcp2 : 00000002 bcp3 : 00000000
Bcp4 : ba5bfa4f osver : 5_1_2600 sp : 2_0 product : 256_1"
Also, i have speedfan, which is supposedly a temp monitor, but i sort of doubt its accuracy. It has my system temp average at about 40-42c, which, right or not, gives me a good idea of the relative temp. My specs:
-Core2 6600 @ 2. 4
-2 gb crucial
-Windows xp pro sp2
-Msi 975x platinum board
-Turbolink 500w ps
-Gforce 7950 gt 512mb
-Raptor 10k rpm hdd

Computer Self Restarts
My computer self-restarts about 3 seconds after power down every-time unless i throw the switch on the power supply. I only have to turn off the power supply during that one 3 second moment; i can turn it back on immediately after without the computer turning on. This only happens after a normal soft off, and not if i hard off the system (holding the power button 5 seconds or whatever). Also happens if the system tries going into suspend mode, putting it into a zombie-like on-but-won't-wake-up state. All wake-on-(x) options are off in bios. Problem persisted before and after a new case build. In the old case build, i would hear an audible click from somewhere at the restart moment 3 seconds after power off, whether or not i had turned the power supply off. Any ideas?

Random Restarts, Freezes
I was loading up a game of il-sturmovic and the monitor turned black. So i restarted and nothing happened. I tried to boot up w/o a video card just to see if my mobo would beep, but it didnt. I switched the cpu to another computer but same thing happened, fans turned on, still black screen. No burnt smell, no smell, nothing. I put in a 1. 2ghz t-bird in my new machine and it ran fine. So since i have bought a xp 1800+. But now, even after restarting, my monitor goes black and the light on the monitor goes from green to orang. Sometimes if i press escape, it comes back. And other times it just restarts for no reason. This all happens while i am doing something, nothing big, usually just surfin, on mirc, or talkin on msn. Did i hurt anything in my sys when my 2000+ died? I tried my video card in another machine and it was fine.

Computer Restarts While Gaming
My friends comp restarts while gaming or whenever there is excessive load (like burning cds, ripping etc. ) We think the problem could either be with the ram or power supply. How right are we? Besides we ran memtest and it showed nothing faulty. Wat could be the other possible causes for this to happen?

Random Restarts When Idle
My last hard drive died, a maxtor 80gb sata, so i got a nice wd caviar 120gb sata (aajs). My other two hard drives are the first generation ide caviar 120gb. This is a complete fresh install of everything with the most updated drivers, service packs, and updates. Anyway, after the install, i've had issues with the computer randomly restarting, sometimes when it's idle, sometimes after continuous tasks (virus scan, seti@home). I've had problems with the ram before (crucial ballistix) and i've rma'd them 3 times, generally once each year, with the most recent rma in september. Only once had it been caused by overclocking. I've reset all timings to automatic, and they're running 3-4-4-8 2t @ 2. 7v. I've run memtest for an hour with no problems. (I'll run it throughout the night tonight and update). It had previously been overclocked, but when i started having problems, i reverted back to stock clocks on everything. I also installed a fan to sit on the ram to keep it from overheating. All of my temps are pretty good, with the exception of my northbridge, which hits about 54c on high load tasks like seti. I tried applying artic silver to the northbridge, but i don't know if a thermal pad would be better as the nb fan that came with the motherboard doesn't sit snug on top. I've got very little dust. I've got high flow air through the case. Any ideas on what i can try to figure out the problem? All along i've figured that the motherboard was faulty and causing the ram to die, but i don't know how to test for that.

Computer Restarts Before Post
I have a computer i built almost 2 years ago and it's been fine without any issues until now. The other day i was on it and it just turned off. Whenever i try to restart it now it'll turn on for a second or two and then shut off and automatically keep repeating that till i flip the switch on the psu. It doesn't turn on the monitor either. I tried a different psu, i tried to unhook my graphics card, i took out my me ram, i even unhooked my reset switch. None of that worked. So then i tried to clear my cmos. If i have the jumper on the setting to clear it then it won 't turn on at all and clearing it didn't work. But if i put the cmos jumper on before it turns off it stays on it just doesn't turn on my monitor. My specs are
E8400
Gigabyte gap35ds3l
Hd4870
4 gigs of ocz ram

Computer Shuts Down Restarts
For the past few weeks my computer has been shutting down on its own, the thing is sometimes it restarts right away and other times it could be an hour or two it will just boot back up on its own. I have tried everything i could think of i swapped the power supply with another one i had and same problem, took my video card out and tired another still same problem. My processor rarely ever runs hotter than 35c. I get no errors from windows. I reformatted my windows still same problem. I tried different ram still same problem. When my computer works like it is right now it runs perfect, the thing is it could shut down any second, or it could shut down two hours from now. Any help would be great i'm totally stumped.

Mouse Stopped Working And Pc Restarts Itself
I am running winxp on an 1800 amd athalon. The problem started yesterday when i switched the computer on, and the mouse wasn't working, so i swapped the old mouse with a brand new mouse, but still no joy. So a bit later on in the day after having no joy fidding with the mouse settings etc ( in device manager it doesn't even detect a mouse being their) i dialled up to the internet using keyboard shortcuts and the pc restarted it self, and did it a number of times. So i switched pc off for a bit, and then when i came to switch it on the monitor doesn't come on. I know the monitor is not at fault as i am using it now on my old computer. The fans inside the computer are all powering up, although there is no beep. I did wonder if this maybe all the cause of a virus ? However i am running norton which is always updated, but i don't know what to do now, as i am a bit stuck now that the monitor has stopped working.

Pfn_list_corrupt - Computer Restarts Frequently On Its Own
A couple weeks ago i fried my ram, dont ask me how. I had 1 stick of 256 ddr, i recently bought new ram but now my computer restarts very frequently on its own. I disabled auto restart to see what the error was. It said "pfn_list_corrupt". I did a goole search for that and people were saying that that was due to bad ram. Now im just wondering whether theres a problem with the ram or even tho i didnt put this ram in the same slot as the fried one from before, there could be a problem with all the ramslots due to the fried ram.

Laptop Restarts Suddenly When Tapped
Iv got a toshiba l10-273 laptop and quite recently have found that when the laptop is tapped or knocked slightly mainly on the bottom left section (next to the touchpad) the computer restarts or the screen goes all funny and it becomes unable to use and needs restarting. Can anyone help?

Pc Completely Shuts Down And Restarts Windows Xp
I just upgraded my computer and i am having serious problems with stability. I could use some good advice because this is my first build and i have exhausted my limited knowledge for solutions. The problem i have is that when i run a program that needs to access the net my computer runs the program just fine for about 10sec. And then completely shuts down and restarts windowsxp. (Programs that have been crashing are. Quake3. Halflife2. Limewire. Bf1942. Etc) i can play doom3 offline with out any problems but when i run halflife 2 offline it reboots. I can use internet explorer and download large files with no problems either. I can't figure out what is causing the instability with some programs and not with others. - I did a full format of the hd and reinstalled windows xp-home
- I installed a drivers for the mobo and sound and video
- Everything checks out in device manager.could it be a compatibilty problem with my vid card and the mobo? I would really appreciate any help that anyone has time to lend.

Pc Restarts Instantly When Play Games
When i play games like quake 4 sometimes my pc restarts, just instantly. No warnings or any type of 'blue screen of death', just restarts, literally instantly when i least expect it. Now i've checked my 3500+ and the temps are fine at about 39c idle and my 7600 gt at about 51c idle. The much i can say is my antec 420 watt power supply was making really worrying noises lately and stinks of radiation. Sometimes i hear little sparks. My ram the crucial ballistix dd400 at 2-2-2-5 and i hav'nt really tested them yet for temps. My pc has been running just fine for months until my games started to bust up like this. The motherbard im using is the a8n-e rev2. The crappy power supply is the antec 420 watt. I cant even find its real name on the net so it must be cheap. It orginally came with a case. But if needs be i'm more than happy to buy an enermax liberty 500watt.

Random Sound And Restarts But No Bsod
So my computer had this issue a few days ago where hitting the side of it would cause my computer to restart. I isolated the area to be near my sb and found that any pressure on it (gently flicking the wb with a fingernail) would cause my computer to reboot. I installed a new cpu today and also changed how i screwed down the thumbscrew on the back of my wb. Now, the computer won't restart if that area is pushed on, but i get these random restarts where there are no bsods or anything. I hear a slight fizz/snap/crackle/pop sound right when this happens, too. Anyone have any suggestions of what may be causing this behavior? I'm going to triple-check my connections tomorrow. Build specs:
780i, e8500, 9600gt, 730w psu.

Computer Bsods And Quickly Restarts Itself
Alright, i've got a long progression of my computer slowly breaking. -Boot up computer, windows tells me i have to verify my authenticity. Everything goes fine. This happens every time i boot up for 3 days or so. -I'm playing batman: aa and after about 10 minutes my computer bsods and quickly restarts itself. -I try again and it happens again almost as soon as i start up the game again. -I decide not to play games anymore and just browse the internet. After a few hours, my video signal cuts out and my monitor goes into sleep mode. No bsod but the computer remains on. The fans spin and my drives keep on making noise. -Tried once more to play batman. Bsod after about 5 minutes. -I try switching to my onboard video. The computer boots up but my monitor remains on sleep mode. -I switch back to my card and i get no video signal and my monitor remains on sleep mode. -I get really sad. Now it's time for you to help me. At first i thought my video card had failed but with the onboard not working anymore i think it may be my motherboard or my powersupply.

Pc Restarts When Watching Online Videos
I have tried numerous things. It seems to only happen when i watch online videos like hulu or utube. I have never had a restart while gaming or anything else. I thought it may have been the outlet i was using (its ungrounded apparently), but i tried to connect to one of my grounded outlets, the pc restarted again 20 minutes into watching buffy on hulu. I don't get an error code or nothing. I even disabled the restart on system failure in bios and in windows vista 64 bit. So i really don't know what could be causing these random restarts, i know it isn't a virus or spyware because i just scanned my machine with avast! And spybot search and destroy which found nothing. I really hope someone out there can help me, this has been going on for the past 3 months and is very irritating. My specs:
Gama790fxds5
1200 watt silverstone psu
8 gigs of drr2 800 gskill running at 2. 1v (they are technically ddr1066 mem, but can't run at 1066 once i go over 4 gigs)
Amd phenom 2 3. 0ghz (not overclocked)
1x 250 gig seagate drive
2x 500 gig seagate drive
1x tb samsung
4870 1 gig asus radeon graphics card

Pc Restarts When Runs .exe Files
Sometimes then i try to run .exe files (winamp, games etc) my pc restarts like its out of electricity, it happens not always but it does, sometimes. Sometimes then i try to install something i also have these strange restarts. Example: i have a laptop (which is weaker then pc) and never had a restart on hittman:blood money game, on pc - restart after restart. Tried to format my pc like 5 times and no luck. Used "fresh diagnostics" software to stress my pc, left it on for 3hrs and no restarts no errors so what the *** is wrong?
I forgot to mention that often running .exe files, they just crash to desktop. On my laptop same games, software never crashes, but on my pc they do. For example i can play civilization 4 for weeks on laptop, but on pc after ~5min - bam, crash to desktop, even using photoshop i sometimes experiencing crashes. Is this somehow related to hardware failures or what?

Nvidia 5200 Freezes And Restarts
I bought an nvidia 5200 as an upgrade from an ati 9200se today. I put it in, uninstalled old ati drivers, and reinstalled the new nvidia drivers from their website and everything looked alright, so i turned on 3dmark2001se. I got past 3-4 tests and then it just stopped at the black screen and it restarted. This can happen in any game that i play or open. I have tried old nvidia drivers and omega drivers. I have cracked the case open while doing the 3dmark2001se to see if the fan on the gfx card would stop or anything but i did not see that. My system is in my profile, but cross out the 9200se and insert 5200. Edit: i have a 400 watt power supply.

Online Game Freezing, Random Restarts
I started getting this weird freezing problem while playing cs: source. It started as just a small little freeze here and there which at first i figured might be lag, but soon got worse. It ended up leading to random restarts at anytime (although these have been rare, but they have happened at least 5 times) and sometimes my screen will just go black for about a second or two and then reappear. The freezin stuff only happens in games, or at least source since that's all i've played recently. The random black screen only happens if i'm not playing (at desktop, internet, etc. ) And now this new thing has started happening where source will just crash completely and end. Like it'll stop for about a second and i'll here that little noise that goes bum like a soft beep and it'll take me to the desktop. About a week ago when it was starting to get severe i did a system restore to a time way before this and then it started happening again eventually after like a day. I have uninstalled, reinstalled, gotten new drivers, done everything you can with drivers and that hasn't done anything. My temps might have a small part in the restarts i think since sometimes the temps get a little high since it has been hot lately around my area. Also, i can't figure out how to use memtest. I downloaded it and extracted it, so now it's in a folder called boot with another file inside of it titled boot as well, but i still have no idea how to use memtest so can someone help me with that as well?
And i did prime95 and got no erros on tests that didn't require any memory or only a little and then i ran tests that used a lot and i got hardware erros in like 5 seconds. So at this point i'm thinking the whole main thing could be the ram especially if i could figure out memtest and part of it could be recent high temps (not hsf issue though since when i turn on the ac in my house temps goes down) at least for the rare restart issue.

Computer Restarts On Bootup After It Display The Memory
When i start the machine, i see the fx 5500 on the screen. Then when it goes the the post window. Than it beeps once, (i know what one beep is), and starts to go through the list, but when it hits the processor, it shows amd athlon 64 3000 (what it is suppose to be), but right before it starts to display the memory, it restarts. Does the same thing over and over again. I opened up the computer, replaced the psu, thinking it might have been that. But, to no avail, i can seem to get the computer to boot past the cpu. Does anyone have any suggestions?
Btw, i have already check for more standoffs, than normal, and have check all connections to the motherboard, i have also check all the connectors to the computer to make sure that it wasn't that. The only thing that is different, is that i put it on a battery backup, but i didn't think that that would do this. I also, used the none battery backup parts of it.

Computer Restarts, But Is Fine In Safe Mode
Normally can figure things like this out. This is on my parents computer, running an amd venice 3200+ (no overclock). When booting normally, the computer will restart (or just stop booting) itself at random times, including at the login screen. When i boot into safe mode. It's fine. Tried a system restore to no avail. Does anyone have any suggestions? I was thinking hardware failing, but then why would it be fine in safe mode?
