3 Monitors With Different Resolutions With 5870

Quick question. I have 3 - 24" monitors. 2 of them are 1920x1080 and the third is 1920x1200. I do not want to game on all 3 screens (eyefinity), just one. So, will the 5870 support all 3 monitors at their native resolutions for surfing the web, etc?

I also understand that i need a display port adapter. Does it have to be an "active" adapter even though it won't be used for gaming? Anyone have a link to what i need?

Using 3 Monitors With 5870

Who is planning on using 3 monitors with their 5870? If so what size and resolution monitors are you going to use? Is anyone planning on using 3 projectors? I see you can buy the older 1024x768 projectors for around $600.

Can I Run 4 Monitors On 5870 ?

Obviously not in eyefinity mode, but is it possible to run 4 monitors when you are in a desktop environment? I have an hdtv on the wall above my setup and would like to use it for movies. So does it work and just disable during eyefinity?

How Can 5870 Handle 3 Monitors ?

Ok the early reviews of the 5870 are out, to be honest not as fast in the benches as i expected. On average it is just better than the 4870x2, which is still awesome. But then how can this thing do multiple screen gaming so smoothly ?

My main point i am trying to make here is, how can this one new card handle extreme crazy resolutions like 7680x1600, that is 3 - 30" displays. I mean for years we have been foaming at the mouth for a single card can even game at 2560x1600res and still be playable, but now this new card can do that on 3 monitors easier ? Doesn't that mean the card needs to be 300% faster than the best already out there?

A single 4870x2 could never in it's wildest dreams game on 3 high res screens smoothly, i mean 24" + size monitors. Now this new single 5870 comes out, which is faster, but not night and day above the 4870x2, and it can suddenly handle multiple screens all at once with ease, but only being a little faster?

4 Monitors On A Single 5870

I'm looking to eyefinity 4 monitors (3 would be 1 group and extended on the fourth). My monitors don't have display ports, and so from what i read i would have to buy active adapters for the last two monitors. If i just buy another 5870 would i be able to use the dvi on the second card?

It seems it would be better to go ahead and get another card instead of spending 200$ on adapters. Is there something i'm missing or is this the only way?

5870 + 4850 To Run 4 Monitors

Anyone know if you could utilize a 5870 with an older 4850 for the 4 dvi slots and run 4 monitors in eyefinity? Just a thought since i'd have to get rid of my 4850 if i couldn't find a use for it. Plus then you can snag a 3rd and 4th dvi based monitor instead of looking for a dp. Just a thought.

5870 Overclocking And Two Monitors, Flickering

I have my 5870 overclocked to 925/1275. Good overclock, safe, worked well. I hooked up a second monitor, but i'm not using it for eyefinity, its just the traditional additional space monitor. Whenever the card is overclocked (even mild overclocks) the second screen flickers whenever moving between different windows, or just about any time the mouse moves over anything new. This is exclusive to the second monitor, and exclusive to when it's overclocked. I have no problem waiting for drivers to mature to overclock since i suspect that's the issue, but i would like to know if any others have the same issue, make sure my card isn't a dud.

Problems With Dual Monitors And 5870

When at factory settings 2d down-clocks are 400/1200 and everything works fine. However when i try to over-clock the gpu in ccc or afterburner the 2d down-clock settings drop to 157/300 and i get tearing/flickering in firefox while browsing. Not to mention the clocks are jumping from 157/300 to 400/1200 constantly. All is fine though if i open a game and it jumps to 3d mode. Any thoughts and suggestions?

5870 Crossfire Performing Worse Than A Single 5870

I just bought 2 5870's today after much research and reading benchmarks they are the way to go, and i have installed them, and in crossfire they are performing, well under what a single 5870 should be doing. My 3d mark vantage score with crossfire is 14, 186. Yes, in crossfire, i heard it should be up near the 22, 000 mark. Also, in mw2 with settings maxed out and crossfire enabled, i am getting an average of 48fps, according to guru 3d it should be 128fps at my resolution with a single card, my old 8800gt's in sli were getting me 90+ and the 5870's should eat the 8800gt's allive and then some. I have the worlds worst luck, so if you guys could point me in the right direction that would be awesome, cause i really want to put my hard earned dollars to work as im sure you can understand.

Eyefinity Support Different Resolutions

I used to have dual 19" ws monitors, i wanted a 1080p monster so i went out and bought a 25" hannspree(re-branded hanns-g from bb). I had no other use for the 19s so i bought arms and put them in portrait on both sides. A couple weeks after i bought them amd released their new cards. Do you think they'll ever support different resolutions? I think it would be relatively simple. Almost when you run a different res and it puts black bars around the screen so there is no stretching. My monitors are 1440x900 so all it would have to do is cut off the 360(1440-1080) pixels to work.

Adjusting Monitor Resolutions (eyefinity)

I know currently eyefinity only supports your monitors' native resolutions. My question is would you eventually be able to adjust your gaming resolutions to suit your needs (as always) or is your current monitor resolutions for all three a permanent thing that you will have to live with. My reason for concern is that currently most of the games that are being run on eyefinity setups are last gen games or not that gpu intensive. I'm not saying they're a walk in the park to run at high resolutions but let's take the game left for dead for example. It's not necessarily a gpu killer like crysis. So basically all i want to know is if the option of changing resolutions to a lower/higher one will be possible just in-case my soon to be bought hd 5870 is unable to handle the future gpu intensive games (cry engine 3) running fluently on all three monitors at such a high resolution.

Missing Eyefinity Intermediate Resolutions

I'm pretty annoyed that eyefinity only gives me 3 grouped resolutions to choose from: 5760x1200 (too much), 3840x1024 (wrong aspect ratio), and 2400x600 (looks horrible). Notice that only the first (based on the 1920x1200 native res for my 24" monitors) is even the correct aspect ratio of 16:10. And this is despite the fact that the edid's are correctly reporting all the proper resolutions that the monitors support. You can easily set all of them to 1680x1050, 1440x900, or 1280x800 - just not when grouped. So the triplehead resolutions of 5040x1050, 4320x900 and 3840x800 which correspond to these individually selectable resolutions are - inexplicably - unavailable. I'm sorry, but i have to ask: was this tested at all? Even the relatively crude th2go was better than this. I really need those lower resolutions because i'm running out of framebuffer at 5760x1200 in quite a few games - and you can forget about antialiasing. Being able to run 4320x900 would allow me to use msaa and be fairly confident that it won't degenerate into a slideshow. So frustrating.

Nvidia Or Ati Card To Run Games At Good Resolutions

I have an amd system (amd athlon 64x2 4200+) it currently has the same amount of memory(1gb) and the same integrated vid card (ati radeon xpress 200). I bought this as a gaming machine and workstation. It works very well as i am able to open multiple windows, progs, etc without slowdowns. However i am dissatisfied with the integrated video card, i have a 21. 5' widescreen monitor (hp f2105) many games such as nba live 07 and medal of honor pacific assault run very slowly even at base settings. I find that warcraft 3 is playable but even then i have to play it at 1024x768 with no settings on high. My question is: is this would i benefit from adding a pci-express card , the mobo has a x16 slot, and if so, can someone recommend either a nvidia or ati card which would run most games at fairly good resolutions with settings on high. Ps. Im looking for a card in the $100 to $150 range if possible

Xfx 5870 Drivers

I am not pleased. I have been running xp for years, i just bought a 5870 and installed windows 7 rc 64 bit. I used the drivers from ati site for the 5870. Diablo ii locks up at times. Call of duty 4 will not play in multiplayer mode, only single player. I tried drivers from the cd, same thing. I would go back to xp, but i see there is no xp driver for the 5870. This is lame, and i am not sure who is at fault, windows 7, or ati. I like upgrading so that the 2 games i play, don't work on my new fancy hardware and os.

New Beta Drivers For 5870

It's a new rc build of the 9. 10s. The only download link i have found so far is the megaupload. I've scanned it with avira, and it didn't find anything amiss. Now i'm off for some testing. Download link

Edit. Seems like it's not a new driver. It's the same actual drive as the msi branded rc7, but with the msi branding gone. With all these betas, amd's driver releases are encroaching on nvidia territory

5870 Not Going Full Screen

So i';ve finally got my i7 rig together with a gigabyte ex58-ud5 mobo, i7 920 currently @4. 0g (testing in process right now) and an ati (re-flashed to asus) 5870 video card. During one of my video card tests it failed and i think that is when the monitor decided to not go full screen. I have about a 1" blank area the entire way around the display that is not being used sort of like when you are watching a broadcast channel in hd that does go full screen. I've tried adjusting the monitor settings, resetting the monitor settings, and adjusting the screen resolution etc. I also noticed that when the screen goes blank from inactivity that it does not wake back up. Not sure if this is related or not though. Any ideas?

Monitor or video card or a combo of the two?

Catalyst Drivers On 5870

Finally got my new machine built (in sig) and windows 7 installed without issue. However as soon as i installed the catalyst drivers (latest from ati site 8. 66 rc6) windows boots and the monitor goes straight into power save mode as if the frequency is too high or something. I can boot into safe mode with no problems. Am going to try removing the drivers in safe mode and reinstall them, see if that helps. I already tried installing the rc7 version but catalyst installer needs to be able to detect the hardware, unlike the nvidia drivers, so they wont install in safe mode. I expect i will reinstall windows tonight and try again if uninstalling doesn't work. Any other ideas? Anyone else had issues like this?

5870 - Displayport Issue

I seem to be experiencing an issue with my 5870, which only happens when connected via display-port. There are two instances, which result in the monitor going into power-save and display no source for a few seconds before restoring. The other two monitors i have connected via dvi at the same time do not run into this issue. All settings on the control panel are currently default. 1) anytime uac prompts for admin approval (displayport loses signal for a second)
2) random intervals during game-play

I am currently running the following system:

Windows7 x64 rtm (clean msdn install, not upgrade)
Q6600 @ 2. 4
8gb ddr2 (4x2)
150gb raptor (no other hdd)
Sata dvd-rw
Xfx 5870 (not overclocked)
Corsair hx520

Displays connected:

Dell 2007wfp (dvi) 1680x1050
Dell 3008wfp (displayport) 2560x1600
Dell 2408wfp (dvi) 1920x1200

Initially i suspected the powersupply to be the issue, but it should be fine for what i'm currently running. I then noticed that uac prompts also caused the loss of signal while under zero load. I've tried the following to resolve the issue already:

1) drivercleaner + update to 10/13 drivers
2) used displayport on the 2408 instead of the 3008, issue then occurs on the 2408

I'm beginning to wonder if this could be an issue with my displayport cable or the card itself as i haven't seen similar reports yet. Any suggestions on what else i might be missing? Should i go ahead and try a different power supply?

5870 Screen Tearing

I recently purchased a sapphire branded ati 5870, as i was replacing a geforce card (and because it was about time anyway) i decided to format before installing the card. I installed win 7 ultimate x64, installed the drivers and began experiencing odd screen tearing. Figuring this was a win 7 issue, i formatted again. This time installing vista ultimate x64, installed latest drivers and the screen tearing happened again!

This persisted during gaming, on the desktop and regular apps (word, ie, etc). After disabling the a. I. Feature the tearing stopped occuring during gaming. But tearing on desktop, ie, etc still remains, i don't want to blame this on drivers as if i do waiting till they fix them will most likely take me past being able to rma the card. Any suggestions?

(I know the psu is not great, had one go bad needed a fast replacement. Although if you read this review it is more then capable of pausing 700+w so i figure that may not be causing this). Any help is greatly appreciated.

Radeon 5870 Not Fast

Really disappointed with my radeon 5870's performance in crysis. In very high settings, i got 27 fps with my old card (gtx 260) with the 5870 i get 30 fps, almost no improvement (was expecting at least 40). There must be a bottleneck somewhere. I have a e6850 core 2 duo (3ghz) and 3 gb ddr2-800 ram. I know that a quad core is really important for gta 4, but according to this test:

It doesn't seem to matter that much in crysis. I use win xp with the "very high settings" hack

Flashed 5850 To A 5870 Bios

This is really odd. Is it possible that i flashed my 5850 to a 5870 bios? I'm thinking maybe i accidentally flashed to some custom bios, or possibly a 5870 bios? For some reason ever since the flash my default clocks are 850/1200. The same clocks you would find on a asus 5870. I've been running the card this way all this time though posting benches etc. On these forums, so i doubt it's a 5870 bios. I'm thinking maybe i picked the wrong link accidentally in a thread which was for the asus 5870 - but perhaps more likely it's just a custom bios. ? Is this even possible to flash a 5850 to a 5870 bios?

Asus 5870 Displayport Native

I have a asus 5870 connected to two iiyama 18inch (1280*1024) and one hp 24inch lp2475w connected via display port (using display port cable native attach). The hp randomly flashes on and off

I am using windows 7 64bit. Any suggestions? I have been through the forums search and have read people flashing their cards. How can i find out which firmware i have currently, would it be worth flashing?

I have a 850w power supply. Would it better to use a second card (which i already have) for the two iiyama and use the dvi for the 24inch hp on the 5870?

Xfx 5870 Second Monitor Issues

I have been having an issue on 2 different systems that have xfx 5870's in them. Under windows 7 x64, almost every time you boot the system, the extended desktop on the second monitor will not properly enable on a reboot. The system shows the monitor is enabled as an extended desktop, but you have to disable and reenable it for it to actually display an image. Has anyone else experienced this?

Ati 5870 Driver Issues

This problem has been recreated on 10. 1, 10. 2 (& using a hotfix), 10. 3 release candidate drivers
As well as 2 separate sapphire hd 5870 graphic cards. Needless to say i'm struggling with my patience and need some help. Some of you may remember my graphical issue with my mouse cursor doing some crazy things. Its very consistent, happening more often than not anymore. Other items of interest. This happens when in eyefinity across 3 monitors (2xdell 2408 &1 dell 2405)

Also it happens when not in eyefinity but each monitor being separate

It also happened when i was only using 2 monitors (samsung t260hd & dell 2405)

The cursor issues will only happen on one monitor and not the other 2. It is random which monitor it will happen on, mostly its the left, but sometimes the center. Never more than one monitor at a time. I've noticed at times the cursor becomes distorted only after moving the cursor to the very bottom of the screen and bringing it back into view if you will, again random. Keep in mind since prtscrn does not take a pic of the mouse i have to use my dslr

This one is fun :|

Difference between the monitor on the left with the problem, but the middle monitor not so much. Bad

This has just been a really rough experience and i appreciate any insight you guys may have. I am going to copy paste this into an ati support ticket once i figure out the right place to send this. Let me know if you guys want any further info like a dxdiag or something.
