What Happens To Raid Drive Data If Mobo Replace?

Let's say i have a raid 5 or 10 setup and the motherboard dies. Let's also say that the motherboard model is no longer made and i can't get another one. What happens when i replace the motherboard with another brand or model? Will the data stay intact when everything is hooked up again?

How To Replace Failed Drive On Dell Server ? (scsi Raid 5)

I'm kind of a n00b at this and i'm doing it for a friend so i don't want to screw up. He's got a server (dell poweredge 1800) with a 4 drive (4x seagate cheetah 10k 73gb) scsi raid-5 setup running ms sbs server 2003. The controller card on it, perc 4/dc, started beeping today and i went in, looked at the dell openmanage and found that one of the drives had failed. I'm pretty sure it's the bottom-most one because when i took the front bezel off the server the top 3 drives had green lights and the bottom one was orange. Anyways, i called up dell to order a new drive. Turns out they don't have the exact same drive anymore and they'll send me a 15k drive. Is this ok? The csr said it would be but just want to make sure. My question is, how do i replace the drive once it comes? Do i need to shut the server down, take out old busted drive, insert new one in, and rebuild it in dell open manage? I've got my enthusiast hardware down (built several computers) but have never worked with scsi before (my bad). Just wondering if there's any jumpers/terminators to set on the new drive?

Hardware Raid Card To Replace Mirrored Sw Raid ?

Looking for a sata hardware raid card that does mirroring ( i don't need anything more at this point ). Advice? Long story short, the on-board intel software raid was throwing errors under windows xp. I pulled each drive and used the manufacturer's drive test utility. Each passed with flying colors. ( I got the same errors with either drive in the machine, which is why i think the sw raid is the problem )

When i went to rebuild the set, the machine blue-screened shortly after the rebuild started. I broke the raid and tried to boot from either drive, but no luck. I tried to make a new raid, but the drivers for the raid controller do not come with windows. The machine has no floppy drive and no *connector* for a floppy drive, and i had no slipstreamed install disk, so i figured i was out of luck for the raid. I disabled the raid settings and installed straight to the hard drive. I'm looking for a hardware raid card to avoid these issues. I don't want to slipstream or floppy a driver in case i need to install. And i don't want windows mucking around with my raid in case it's rebuilding. Will hardware raid allow me to avoid these issues?

Get Data Off A Raid 1 Drive

I have a raid 1 set up with the onboard via vt6410 ide raid controller of my asus p4p800 deluxe mobo. Sadly, i think the mobo is dead (might be the cpu . Not sure). In any case, i can't access the data on my drives with this pc. The question is, how do i get the data off my drive?

Would it be possible to just plug one of the raid 1 drives into another pc ide port as a slave, and access the data? (My guess is i can't, but want to make sure there's not a really simple solution here. )

If this won't work, can i buy a different raid controller, install it into another computer, plug my two drives into this controller as a slave, have it recognize that the drives are already in a raid 1 configuration, and allow me to remove the data?

Does the raid controller need to be the exact same as the original (this would suck b/c as i mentioned, it was the onboard controller of a long since discontinued mobo). Is there any way to determine which raid controllers would be compatible with my raid 1 drives?

Raid Zero For The Os With 2 Data Drives

I have a dell xps system. I have two wd 640gb caviar black drives. I also have two 500 gb wd blue drives, and a 1tb black drive by wd, so i guess i need a raid controller, for the two 640gb blacks to set up raid zero

Do i need anything else for the data drives? Or can i use the connections on my motherboard? What do i look for when buying a raid controller? Can anyone recommend one?

Ahci Ssd Os And Raid 1 Data Drives P6td Setup

Not sure how this would be configured in the bios or whether it can be done. Requirements: os drive must support trim

Question: how should the bios be configured to support this arrangement. Enable ahci in the bios? Or should it be set to raid? If set to raid does the trim/ahci functionality in windows 7 still work for the ssd drive? If it is set to ahci can i set up a raid data drive?

Build: windows 7 ultimate 64bit
P6td deluxe (asus) board. 80gig intel ssd x-25 g2
2 x 1 tb segate sata drives
Sata lg dvd burner

Would like the ssd for c:(os)
And the 2 segate drives as mirrored data drives.

When Do I Need To Replace An Old Drive?

I am not the most experienced in data storage, but i have a 3-4 year old hitachi 500gb drive that im using to hold something like 400gb of data, and ive had not problems with it, but i was wondering when i should transfer the data to another newer drive, that way i don't end up having it fail and loosing all that data. I have the drive in a fedora box, and ive done smart monitoring checks on it but the monitoring tool doesn't seem to be working (says a brand new drive has signs of being old and or pre-fail) so im not to sure about how to check the smart monitoring features for the drive. This drive is a sata drive btw if that helps.

Use Cd Drive Ide Cable To Connect Hard Drive To Mobo

Well, i'm assembling an old via computer with a 2700+ chip. I have a 40gb ide hard drive i want to connect. Right now, the cd drive is connected to the mobo with an ide cable. This same ide cable also has another female connector on it that would fit into my hard drive ide port. My question is whether i can just hook the drive right into this ide connector already on the cable that's connecting the cd drive to the mobo, or if i need to get a second individual ide cable and then connect the drive to the second ide port on my mobo. It would be much easier if i could just use this one ide cable to connect both to the same mobo port.

Hard Drive Or Mobo Issue

I recently reformatted a pc and changed my hdd arrays around. I changed it around when reformatting and put 2x 1tb wd blacks in a raid 0 for the main system drives. I partitioned them 150 gb (vista) 150gb (windows 7) and the rest for data. It worked fine for a week. Then i got an issue in the intel raid manager saying an error occured on the array. I turned the pc off and back on a few times and it went from that to an error on one of the 1 tb hard drives. Not wanting to deal with it, i took the hard drives to bestbuy and just swapped both drives (even though they werent bought there haha) got home made a new array same as before formatted it, then today one of the 1 tb hdds had a problem again. I have tried using different ports and cables with no success. A few minutes ago though it booted up dispite the problem. I also got a windows error message saying that windows files were missing or corrupt due to a recent software or hardware change. Is it really likely i have another bad drive? Or is there something else going on with these new wd 1tb drives?

Dvd Rom Drive, Flash Hard Drive Slowing Data Transfer Speed

Issue a: when i put a cd/dvd into my dvd, the system (my computer/properties) recognizes the hardware, but it will not play. (Drive letter "d". )

Issue b: my computer will not recognize my data (flash?) Cards from my digital camcorder/camera. Issue c: my computer's hard drive (drive letter "c") once accepted my firewire uplink (1333). Now, my nle (pinnacle studio 9 plus) give the error message "drive c is not capable of capturing dv data", meaning it's date transfer rate is too slow. How can i fix these issues? Do i have to buy a new hard drive?

Program For Copy All Data Off Old Drive Onto New Drive

So i'm in the market for a new drive and i was wondering is there a program that would allow me to copy all the data off my old drive on to my new one? I need more space but i really don't feel like re-installing me os, updating all my drivers again, installing all my games again, and transferring all my music, movies and pictures to my new hard drive. So does anyone know of a program that would do this? Or if this is even possible?

How Much Data Can You Put On A Drive ?

Is there a limit on how much data can be placed on a 20gb, 80 gb, 120 gb, etc. Drive. In other words do you need to have a certain amount of space (say 5 gb or percentage) available. Also does this apply to both a drive that contains an operating system and a drive that only contains data?

Repair Drive - Recover The Data

I have a 20gig hd with two partitions one 5gig for os and the other 15gig for data and programs etc. The other day i turned my machine on and the d: drive (15gig partition) was missing. It just didnt show the partition at all. Now somehow i managed to get it to display the partition but every time you go to open the drive it says it isnt formatted and needs to be. Now i am not sure what has happened but i am guessing it has got something to do with the file system. I am sure that the pc hasnt wiped all the data of my drive so it should be recoverable, i just would like to know if anyone knows how to solve the problem or if there are any programs available that will help repair te drive/recover the data.

Which 1.5tb Drive To Get For Data Backup ?

I'd like to get either the seagate or wd green 1. 5tb drives for backup, but both have bad ratings. Have the seagates really improved in quality? I already have a few wd10eads drives and am very happy with them, so i'd prefer the wd15eads esp since it'll run cooler and speed is not an issue. But that has even worse ratings than the seagate, and its more $$ as well.

1tb - 2tb Data Drive

I was planning on getting a new 1-2tb storage drive for my next build (primary will be a ssd). 1tb should be enough, but i am willing to spend more for a 1. 5 or 2tb if it makes sense. Assuming the ssd may only be an 80gb, i will be running some games off the storage drive, so i would like some performance. I'm really not too familiar of the world outside of wd, as i have been burned by almost every other companies, but am willing to listen. Right now, i'm planning on getting the wd1001fals for ~$100. Is there a better option? It doesn't have to be silent, but i don't want it sitting down there rattling either. http://www.Newegg.com/product/product.aspx?Item=n82e16822136284

Any other recommendations?

Data Recovery Of A Hard Drive Partition In Two

My drive is partition into 2. A drive c for my xp systems and a d for files. Windows xp doesnt work anymore on the c drive partition and all it does is just keep on going to the windows screen and then restart and will not get pass it. I have installed a second sata drive in my pc and installed xp on it. Now when i connect both drives in my pc including the faulty one, it just does the same thing again with the restarts looping and will not load the working xp thats loaded onto my other sata drive. Is that because they both have the c drive letter on both of them and the xp operating systems?

Is there any way of telling the pc to load the second sata drive with the working xp and disregard the faulty one with a c drive letter partition. All i want is for the pc to see the faulty drive as just another drive with files in there and an xp operating system in there. I am thinking of just getting a usb sata external case tomorrow and put the faulty sata drive in there and connect it to my pc hoping it will not recognise the c drive letter and operating system in there and just copy the files from it.

What Can Be Causing Hard Drive Data Corruption ?

Ok, i know my question could have a thousand possible answers (searching the forums, it appears so), but iím really stumped here. My hard drive keeps getting "data corruption errors" where it has "one or more unrecoverable problems" according to chkdsk /r. I donít know why my wd 160gb 1600js sata hard drive gets this problem. I am unable to properly boot into windows, and if i am able, programs open really slowly. Any ideas what could be the problem? It happened a few weeks ago, and i reformatted the hard drive and reinstalled everything (with the help of another hard drive with windows on it). Now, it happened again. The data corrupt issues started when i bought the ocz stealth xstream psu to replace a high-pitch whine antec psu. But according to the bios, the rail readings appear to be ok and nothing is overclocked, its just an office-use machine. One more thing, i didnít install the nvidia ide drivers (i still remember the horrors from when i had the nf2).

Hard Drive Problem - Data Recovery

I got a harddrive here that's running windows 98 and while you try and boot in it's just fatal error after fatal error. . Vxd's .dlls, mass blue screens and just ends in a freeze up eventually. I'd give the names of the files thats giving errors but it's literally different ones every time. I tried to get into the os from safe mode and it returned a himem.sys error. I figured the ram might be bad but it's good so i copied himem.sys from the 98 cd into windows directory in dos, but still getting the same error. I'm at a loss for what to do now and suppose the only thing i can do is try and recover the data and wipe the harddrive. I was wondering if perhaps i could connect the harddrive to my windows xp machine and salvage the data through there or if anyone has tips on how i could go about this i'd be most thankful.
