Local Network Connection Cable Unplugged

I have win xp home edition and i recently had a problem start and i have no clue as to how to fix it. Last week my system started giving me the error that my "local network connection cable unplugged" and now i cannot get my network to connect. Here are the specs of my computer: amd xp 2200 cpu; biostar motherboard model: m7viq ver 1. 2 with via vt6103 lan chip; 768 pc2700 ddr memory. I run a vcom (system suite 5 utilities) firewall and virus checker. I have a broadband connection (motorola surfboard sb5100 cable modem) that runs through a 4 port router (network everywhere, linksys nr041). I have 3 computers networked through the same router and modem and no other computer has a problem with connecting to the internet, or to one another. Here are the attempts i have made to try and fix this problem but was unsuccessful (first i disabled the firewall and virus checker):

1. I've checked cable and it was plugged, tried a differnet connection on router and no success. Tried new cable, still not success. 2. I thought maybe a game my brother loaded (heavy gear ii) could have overwrote some important networking files since it is an online game, so i uninstalled the game. No success. 3. I tried 3 different restore points prior to the loading of the game and still no fix. 4. I ran xp's repair current windows utility and this still did not fix my network connection. 5. I've tried a different nic (realtek rtl8139/810x fast ehternet pci card) and it does the same thing as the onboard lan connection by giving me the same error. 6. When i go to the hardware manager, it says that both devices are working properly. 7. I pinged 127. 0. 0. 1 and nic checks out fine. 8. When i do a "ipconfig /all" at the command prompt, i get that both nic cards "media state" are disconnected. 9. I've done research on the internet on this problem and have not yet found an answer. I even went to heavy gear ii site and did not find anything that would help. I'm not even sure that the game caused the problem to begin with, but i'm out of guesses. I would like to go the windows update and run the updates on my system but i cannot get on the net to do so. I did load new drivers from a floppy for the realtek nic but that didn't work either. Can someone give me any suggestions on what to do next?

Connect Local Area Network ( Ethernet ) With Wan

Can we connect a local area network (ethernet) with wan? Suppose we want to connect a local area network (ethernet) with a wide area network, the question arises is, can we connect a local area network with wide area network?

If we directly connect the lan segment to the packet switch of the wide area network, then obviously every signal on the segment will be forwarded to the switch, to prevent this, can be use a bridge to connect this segment to the network switch (because bridge will only forward the packets if necessary)?

Another question arises is, every wan technology uses a specified frame format, suppose the wan is using a frame format that is different from ethernet frame format then what we will do?

Can't Find Local Area Connection

Normally at first, i can see my local area connection in my network places. But somehow, suddenly i can't. My lan card is glowing and is the lan in my modem so i don't think there's a problem with them. I already checked if my lan card was docked properly and if any cable was connected well. But still, i can't see it. My internet also doesn't work because of that. How can i see it again?

Local Area Connection Does Not Have Valid Ip Configuration

Local area connection doesn't have a "valid ip configuration" -how do i fix this? So i recently got a new desk for my computer, and must've uplugged something on my router because this is what comes up when i try to see what's wrong. My internet won't work when i plug in everything needed. But when it's just my modem plugged into my computer it works fine(like now). My internet is time warner and my computer is windows 7. And my router is a linksys. (I don't know if any of these are important). Anyways, my computer diagnoses the problem as my connection not having a valid ip configuration. What do i need to do to solve this?

Local Area Connection Does Not Have A Valid Ip Configuration

I got a new laptop for college and there is a connection offered in my dorm to the school's server through a walljack. I'm connected through a simple ethernet cable and yet my computer just doesn't want to accept the fact that internet is there. I've rolled back the drivers, done a system restore and performed the bonjour service through component services. Pretty much everything every forum has said to try except for reinstalling win7 altogether which i really want to avoid.

Laptop Wont Connect To Internet, Wireless Or Local Area Connection

Last night, the wireless was fine, all connected. Then it randomly went off and wouldn't find any wireless network connections, but i just left it and went off. I went back on a few hours later, and it still wouldn't find any, even though other people could find them in our house. So i used a wire and connected to it and it was fine. Today when i went on, it still wouldn't find our wireless. So when i went to use the wire again, that wouldn't work either. It said i was working off-line, so i changed it to on-line, and it said it can't display the web-page, i really don't know what to do, but i need my internet.

Network Cable Was Unplugged

I installed xp on it and get it ready to go. It wasnt connecting to the internet, with my router it should just plug n play. Well in the bottom right of my desktop the little notification was coming up every ten seconds that a network cable was unplugged. So i tested the cable on another pc and it worked fine so it wasnt the cable. Tried different drivers for the d-link card, still same thing. Then i tried the onboard lan on the motherboard and still the same thing. It connects for about 10 secs then disc's for about 10 seconds and it just repeats. Does anyone know anything else i could try im getting a little clueless on what else to do?

Network Cable Unplugged

This is probably some spyware or a virus but i keep getting my network cable 'unplugged'. Cable internet works 100% fine; then cable gets 'unplugged' and there's no connection but then it reconnects in 5 secs back on again. Does this every 5 mins. My roommates and i share the same modem through a router and theirs is just fine. Tried replacing the router already - same thing. Any ideas!? I'm running virus & ad-ware as we speak.

Is It Dangerous Having An Unplugged Ide Cable Hanging Inside Pc?

I took out my floppy drive and then 'uninstalled' the floppy drive in the bios. Is there any danger in having an unplugged floppy drive power supply and ide cable hanging around inside my pc? I will try to find some caps for them. I'm worried because i recently got a random reboot that looked 'power-related' as the clock in my room had also reset. I did install a new video card and after the reboot i rolled back its drivers to a stable release (was using beta drivers before). I have not done any significant ocing on the video card and my stock dell power supply is rumored to be very good so i don't think the video card caused the reboot. I suspect the ide cable and the power supply as the cause of the restart. Any clue what caused the reboot? And should i do something about that free power supply and cable?

Network Adapter Stops Responding When Video Is Unplugged

I've setup an old sff dell sx280 as a downloader/htpc machine. It has intel 915g chipset, onboard everything. I put windows 7 ultimate 32bit on it, along with all the updates and drivers from windows update. For video it has a dvi-i connector. I'm using a dvi-hdmi adapter to connect to my receiver. I noticed when i unplug the hdmi cable, or change the receiver's input to something other than the computer, the computer's network adapter stops responding. It puts a an exclamation point over the icon in the system tray. This has turned into a royal pita for me, and i don't understand what's happening. Here is a little troubleshooting i have done:i connected the little y-cable that came with it, that gives me a dvi output and vga output. I attached the hdmi adapter to the dvi end of the cable, then hdmi to the receiver. Again, if the hdmi is unplugged, or input on the receiver changed, the network drops. I've used a cable that has hdmi on one end, and dvi on the other, and got the same results. On another computer, i did a "ping -t" in a command prompt to see when it stops responding, and it's exactly when i unplug the video. I also went into the adapter properties, and told it "not to disable this device to save power"
Using a vga cable to the tv, everything appears to work as intended. So it has something to do with the dvi/hdmi. I tried unplugging/replugging the lan cable, and windows still thinks the cable is disconnected, even though the link light is on, along with the activity light blinking. I've tried disabling/enabling in device manager, but no luck. It still thinks the cable is unplugged. So i'm out of ideas. Do you guys have any advice for me?

Networking 4 Pcs With Cable Internet Connection

Previously i had 3 pc's on my home network, 2 running winxp pro, and 1 running winxp home, which were connected to a motorola sb5101 surfboard cable modem through a 4-port linksys router. Everything was running perfectly; fast/reliable lan and internet speeds. Recently, i added a 4th pc running winxp pro x64. Upon first connecting the new pc to my router, it got no "limited or no connectivity, " while my other 3 pc's were running perfectly on the local network and internet. So i shut down all 4 pc's, along with the router and modem. After restarting everything, the new pc was the only one working correctly on the network with the other 3 pc's receiving "limited or no connectivity. "

Since then, i've only been able to get 1 out of the 4 pc's on my network at a time. I can get any 1 of them working fine, but no more than 1. 3 out of the 4 always get "limited or no connectivity. " I'm fairly sure that it isn't the router, as i have tried 3 routers(2 linksys and 1 asante) and have the same problem every time. I'm assuming it isn't the modem, as it works perfectly with any single pc, unless it suddenly decided not to accept more than 1 pc?

I've tried release/renew on any of the 3 pc's getting "limited or no connection" and it always times out with "unable to contact your dhcp server" while attempting to renew, tried resetting the modem and router (along with the 4 pc's). I haven't tried static ip's, as i'd much rather leave it automatic. Any ideas?

Using Usb 2.0 Cable For Extending An Internet Connection

Will a usb 2. 0 cable of 10 meters work for extending an internet connection?

No. It's the usb 2. 0 part that results in the "no", not the 10 meters part.

Cannot Get The Network Connection To Enable

I have a dell pc with xp home and i just took my pc off of a domain. Had to get the administrative password as well, which i did. Also, i cannot seem to stop a log in window from coming on with the original administrator name on it even if i'm the new administrator seems like he is still built-in administrator. I cannot get the network connection to enable. I have installed the latest drivers and i have a network adapter installed for wireless use when-ever i get the network connection to enable. I don't know yet how to use the wireless situation in my building but the access points, routers, and modem is within the building for all tenants. The bottom words come up when i try to use the network wizard. I'm good in bios and the nic isn't on. When it was it didn't work neither. I'm not sure what is network- pxe or pxe bis default policy or whether to turn them on. Some of this computer's network hardware is still disconnected. Before you can continue, you must either plug in or otherwise connect all of your hardware, or select "ignore disconnected network hardware. Any assistance is welcomed i will be on for another hour.
