Pc Restarting Randomly
Replies: 8 | Post Date: 13-07-2007, 12:38 PM | User: Vanman | Forums: hardwareforums.comI have had several pc's (which was self assembled) which restarts at randomly. It is mostly for office use, so i doubt that it has something to do with overheating.could it be something i do wrong while assembling it? Or could it be just faulty ram something like that?

Hard Drive, Not System, Randomly Restarting
I recently noticed that one (maybe 2) of my hard drives power off and power on a few seconds later. I have a dual boot system and it seems that the boot disk w/ xp is the one with the issue. I will be using vista and i will hear a drive power down and then restart/spin-up again - similar to the sound when the whole system powers down and powers on, respectively. This happens regardless of load and seems to happen randomly.

Pc Restarting Itself
I'm having problems with my computer. It has been restarting itself, and worse the monitor goes blank leaving me no option but to switch it off without being able to close down. It usually has been when i first start it up, it will go for 5 or 10 mins at a time. After a few try's it usually runs ok for the rest of the day. I took it to the shop the other day and they reloaded it and it has been better but the monitor has gone off a couple of times since. They said it had a bug, the writing was wobbly which is a sure sign as he said, and when he tried to run a virus scan it turned itself off. The writing is still wobbly, i tried to run a virus scan earlier and the monitor went off and it then restarted itself and monitor went off again. So i tried defragging and running symantec something called error killer it has said it killed 25 errors but there was 14 left i would have to upgrade symantec as i just downloaded the free version, but as it didn't say how much the updated version was and not sure if it is actually any good i left it. I am running xp, don't know if anyone can understand what i have just typed bit rambled i know but any idea's whats up anyone, this probably won't go up for a while so will check back tomorow".

Pc Keeps Freezing And Restarting
My mate was having some problems with her pc, she kept saying to me it keeps slowing down freezing and restarting, and once i got round to look at it i found hundreds of problems ranging from bad drivers, to low memory and a complete clutter of spyware and viruses, so i thought ok im gna format the hard drive and reinstall windows, she at the time had 256mb of ram so i recommended to her to upgrade it to 512mb of ram which we did and that made the pc faster, but after reformatting the restarts were still there and the pc still kept freezing. Since that time the pc completely shut down and wouldnt load windows, so i reformatted it again and it was fine but still the random restarts and freezing returned. I'm not too sure what to advise to her now im completely confused, are the freezing and restarting two different problems? Or inter-related? New formatted and clean version of windows xp with sp2 and all updates is installed, can this problem me software related? Can itunes and java script cause problems?
Before formatting her pc she used to get error reports after each restart relating to javascript because she has programs like limewire and other websites which are java based which could have caused restarts but what i dont understand is after formatting these error reports did not appear again and her pc seemed fine but the random freezing and restarting still continued! Her pc does also get quite hot when on for just a few hours so i advised her to keep her case open but still it freezes and restarts, does any1 have any idea what could be wrong?

Computer Keeps Restarting
Ok i turned my computer on this morning. As soon as i did, it loaded perfectly to the windows load up screen. When it reached the window load up screen, it took a long time till for it to go to next step which would be the start of windows. The computer than restarts on the window load up screen and loads up again till it stops at the safe mode page, it gives me the options to run safe mode, safe mode with networking, run last time the computer ran good, safe mode command prompt, and finally normal. The only ones that would work and take me pass the window screen was safe mode, networking and command prompt one. I try shutting it down propertly from safe mode, but it does the same thing it did when i 1st started the computer. Which was restart. Any ideas?

Pc Keeps Shutting Down And Restarting Every 10, 15 Secs
On start up, when cold my pc keeps shutting down and restarting every 10-15 secs with the gape between shut downs getting longer as it warms up. Sometimes its 10-15 times before it runs for longer than 2 mins. After 30 mins or so it seems to run fine, just an odd shut down now and again [blue screen different stop code each time]

Computer Constantly Restarting
My dad got me a new computer a few months ago. I hadn't had any problems with it really, until about two months ago. I shut down the computer and left the room, but when i walked back in the computer was still running. So i shut down again, but my mum later told me i'd left the computer on. Ever since the computer refuses to shut down - it simply restarts. I have to turn it off at the mains. Then today, i wanted to watch a dvd i got for christmas. I turned the computer on, and for some reason got the screen that requests you to select which mode to start windows in (start windows normally, safe mode etc. ) I can select any one of the five options that i am given and the computer begins to load - however, i am then shown the 'no input signal' screen and the whole system restarts. The computer has restarted about 30 times so far. I have tried switching off at the mains to no avail.

Computer Keeps Restarting At Startup
Ok so yesterday i was on my computer and it froze so i shut it off. When it started up it had the windows has recovered from a serious error so i looked into it and it said something about 2 temp files, so i went into my temp folder and i think i deleted them. My computer was working fine and then i come on it this morning and it is off, when i try starting it up it goes through the bios screen then just restarts, the screen stays on. I can get into the bios screen but im not sure i can do much. Ive had this computer for a while (2+years) and ive had it fixed a few times. Any possible reasons why this is happening.

Bsod - Computer Restarting By Itself
I got a intel celeron@1. 8ghz, a 350w power supply , a radeon9200se, 1, 5 giga kingston rams:1 giga+256 +256, 200giga western digital hard drive. Before i bought the 1 giga ram it was everything fine, now my computer crashes all the time, when i'm listening to music or for example playing most wanted, i've had tested the new rams they are working fine without problems and the computer still crashes, could the problem be the power supply?
Ohh i almost forgot, sometimes it is restarting by itself, closing applications, or it is shutting down by itself.could be the psu the problem?

After Cleaned Pc Infected By Virus Vx2, It Keeps Restarting
I got infected by a virus vx2. I removed it following instructions. After a few hours, i was playing online game and it restarted my pc and till now, more than 24 hours, it still keep on restarting. Therefore i wanted to check if its the hardware or the virus. I went into safe mode, it restarted soon enough. I went into bios, it restarted too(leaving it for awhile. Or sometimes it is a quick restart). What is the problem? What could the problem be? Is it my hardware? I've check on the temperature, and its at 30degree only. Any advise please? I dont even have the chance to reinstall my windows.

Stop Error / Blue Screen / Pc Restarting
Whenever i try and open (or even point with the cursor) at a particular folder my pc restarts. Then i get the blue screen with this error message:
A problem has been detected and windows have been shutdown to prevent damage to your computer. If this is the first time you've seen this stop error screen, restart your computer. If this screen appears again, follow these steps:
Check to be sure you have adequate disk space. If a driver is identified in the stop message, disable the driver or check with the manufacturer for driver updates. Try changing video adaptors. Check with your hardware vendor for any bios updates. Disable bios memory options such as caching or shadowing. If you need to use safe mode to remove or disable components, restart your computer, press f8 to select advanced startup options, and then select safe mode. Technical information:

Computer Constantly Restarting, Reboot And Power Back Up
My friend has a custom built computer with asus motherboard, and a intel celeron 2. 33ghz processor. It continues to reboot and power back up. I checked the power supply and it is ok, and tried unplugging power to all components, and then plug them back in one at a time. It appeared to be the dvd/cd rom, as that corrected the problem for a day when i left the power to that unplugged, but now this morning it is doing it again. I'm not sure where to look now. Any suggestions?

Pc Randomly Crashing
Ok, ive already narrowed down this problem to either; faulty power supply, or faulty motherboard. Originally my pc was crashing on average about every 15 mins, i thought it may be my case shorting out my board, so i ran only critical devises outside of the case. No crash, removed the mounting screw that was shorting, it began crashing every couple of hours. It only crashes a couple of times, but it now crashes every now and then. This would seem to point at the motherboard, but seing as my case isnt in the best shape, and my psu is blowing warm air out the back, and contaisn more dust than you can shake a stick at. Well, that just introduces a 2nd party to the problem!
Can somebody point me in the right direction of furthur system testing, or some motherboard diagnostic tools?

Randomly Freezes
So, for a while i've had this problem with my pc. It randomly freezes. (Used to randomly restart, but i turned that option off so i could see when it was doing). To date i have switched out the graphics card out for my old one, and the problem persisted, tried all sorts of combinations of my 3 hdds, and the problem persisted, same with the ram, and the problem persisted. First thing i did was do several trials of not using certain pieces of software. None of them seemed to cause the problem. I did a complete reinstall of windows, and the problem persists. Please, i am begging anyone to tell me how to fix it. What is wrong? Is it possible for it to be the cpu/mobo? I assumed it wouldn't start up if they were faulty. Edit: could it be an underpowered psu? A thought struck me, and i googled "underpowered psu symptoms" and found my symptoms. Mind you, there are the same symptoms with my old 250w, and my borrowed 300w. You know, with the same sort of regularity, etc. What's the verdict?

Computer Randomly Shut Off
Certain actions cause my computer to completely shutdown. Occasionaly going to a blue screen and sometimes not. The actions that cause this include playing certain video games, watching videos, and other actions. Regular web surfing does not cause a shutdown. Somebody mentioned to me that i could have fried my r. A. M or something. I really have no idea. My computer is a p4 with at least 256 ram maybe 512.

Computer Going Into Stand By Randomly
I recently removed the old 20gb hard drive i was using and replaced it with an 80gb drive. Installed xp, my drivers, games, etc. Without any problem (also installed sp2, which i didn't have before). But then my computer started going into stand by (or it might be hibernation, it doesn't actually say) mode at random times, even when i'm using my computer. Of course first i checked the power options to make sure it wasn't set to go off. Then i checked the bios, and reinstalled my mobo and video card drivers. But none of that solved anything. My next thought was it could be the power supply, but i don't know how to check if the ps is going bad. Any suggestions on what else i could check to solve this.

Computer Shutdown Randomly
I built my computer a few years ago and have had no problems (p4). Today it decided to shutdown randomly. I tried rebooting but it would turn on like it was going to start but bios would not post and it would shut down after about 5 seconds. My first inclination was that it was a failing power supply. Replaced that without any luck. The odd thing is that when i plug in both power components from the ps to the mobo it turns on and after five seconds turns off;
Yet, when i do not have the 12v 4pin plugged in, the computer stays running, although it does not load windows. I checked the ram, light on mobo is on, nothing smells fried, i'm hoping it is not the mobo.

Monitor Will Randomly Go Black
The problem that is occurring is when i play wow, my monitor will randomly go black, but my computer stay on. All of the sound and background apps such as ventrilo will cease, and i am forced to restart my computer via the restart switch. This started occurring a few months ago, but it went away. Unfortunately it is back again. I've already restarted my computer about 6 times in the past hour, and have tried a lot of things including resetting the cmos, re-seating both my ram and video card, even changing some bios settings, all of which didn't do anything. I haven't tried any other games then wow, but i'll start up bf2142 or cs:s and see if it does it. I'm not certain as to what would be causing this "black screen" to occur. Maybe it could be the power supply? Ram? I've already determined it's not the video card, as i put my old 6800 in, and it still occurred. What's weird is that i just got burning crusade, and i played it all last weekend from friday - sunday with no problems.

I can be surfing the internet or listening to music and my computer keeps randomly locks up and when it does it i have to switch it off at the mains and back on again. Computer Randomly Turns On
My comp is possesed. (You would know if you have seen some of the other problems i have with this comp too)
So my computer more or less randomly turns on during the day or night. Sometimes when i get home from school it is on (nobody uses it, and the screen is like it should be when it first turns on)
Sometimes when i wake up in the morning it is on. The only partial logical explination i came up with is that sometimes when i turn stuff on such as my bedside lamp it will turn on. Im thinking this has somthing to do with. I dunno. A small surg of power going into the comp when turning the lamp off making the comp turn on. Only problem with that is that my comp is plugged into a battery. Also somtimes it will randomly turn on when i walk by it. Is my computer possesed?

System Randomly Reboots Itself
System randomly reboots itself. Have replaced almost every part aside from vid card. Doubt vid card is the problem, works fine on another system.

Pc Keeps Rebooting And Randomly Locking Up
I've got a friend that i built a pc for. It now keeps rebooting and randomly locking up. It usually locks up while gaming, but has recently begun this while not gaming. We brought the thing to our office, where it did not lock up during over an hour of gaming and benchmarking. By taking it to another location, i have narrowed the problem to either the monitor, or the outlet the thing is plugged into. Question is, has anyone ever seen a monitor or bad outlet cause a pc to behave like this?

Internet Randomly Disconnects
My internet randomly disconnects? I used windows vista on my toshiba satellite laptop. Normally when i put the cursor over the internet icon at the bottom right corner it says "access: local and internet" (that's when internet works). But when my internet disconnects it goes to "access: local only" and i lose my connection. These disconnections usually last about 30sec but once it lasted up to 10-20min. Sometimes this occurs quite frequent, like once every minute. I know this isn't my isp's problem since my dad's laptop's (he uses xp) internet works fine. Can anyone tell me how to fix this?

Notebook Randomly Restarts
My hp pavilion tx2500cl notebook with vista has been having some really weird problems. The computer is a lil over a year old so it's not too bad. I always use a fan thing under it to prevent it from overheating. I use advanced system care and superantispyware to clean it. Problem: it'll randomly restart for no reason. No matter if i'm on the internet or on word or whatever else. Another thing is that the integrated webcam doesn't work anymore. Whenever i attempt to use it, it freezes up my whole computer and then my computer won't shut down. That's another thing, sometimes it just doesn't shut down even when i click on shut down or type in the command for it. Sometimes it chooses not to start. I have no idea what it could be. I really don't know alot about computers so please help me out! :) I don't play games or anything on it. I just use it for internet, word and music. I have like 4000 songs, 10 videos (5 min vids and 2 movies) and like 1000 pictures, could that be the problem? Could it be a virus? Also, i download torrents using kickasstorrents.com and utorrent software, could that be the problem?
