5870 Problems, Dashed / Lines On Screen
Replies: 3 | Post Date: 12-17-2009, 03:24 PM | User: Roosterusmc | Forums: hardforum.comI got an xfx 5870 recently and am getting some weird dashes on screen in various game menus and ui's ofpdr, dragon age. Arma2 is the only game where it has happened in the world of the game. This doesn't happen in all games, it hasn't happened in torchlight, red orchestra, and some other games. Some things i've tried. - Four drivers 9. 11, 9. 12 beta 5, 9. 12, and 9. 12 hotfix
- Downclocked some
- Vsync onoff
- Hdmi sound not installed
- Win7 up to date
- Checked power cable
Anyone have any ideas? I still have about 15 days to rma to newegg.

Blue Lines Vertically On Screen
Im having a problem where my screen will just freeze, i get tons of blue lines going vertically throughout my screen and my background goes into a purple fuzz color, sorry cant be more specific as i don't know whats going on. I already reinstalled my gpu drivers twice to no avail. Only way to get it functioning again is to reboot, happens every couple of hours.

Horizontal And Vertical Lines On Screen
The other day out of nowhere my screen starts going nuts. It has a bunch of horizontal and vertical lines on the screen and they kind of move when the mouse is over them. When i open a new window, for example an aim window or notepad, parts of the program will display fine, without any lines, and other parts will continue the line pattern on the screen. When my computer starts up, it has weird gray images that almost look like japanese letters on the windows xp splash screen. I checked a different monitor and the picture is still weird, so it isn't monitor, so im guessing its video card. ? Anyone ever heard of a problem like this?

Single Pixel Lines In Dell Inspiron Screen
As a bit of backstory, i've never worked hands-on with a laptop before. Somehow, i ended up with one as my primary computer. Please save the 'lolz get a real computer' comments until after you've given your expert opinions. Recently, some vertical lines have appeared in the screen. It has not been bumped, jostled, thrown, or dampened. It's a very spoilt little machine. I don't have a spare monitor to test for a screen problem, but i might be able to jack a friend's when he gets back from vacation. As far as i can tell from previous experience, i think the video card may be going. To be honest, i'd be much happier if that were the case, since i imagine screens are much more costly. Has anyone else ever had this happen? Does anyone have any idea what's up?

When i start up my pc the display is odd like a chess board. Sometimes vertical dotted line's show up. This continues until i reach the login screen for windows. When i reach the login screen for windows all seems ok.initially my hard disk wasn't being detected. I removed the ide cables and than reconnected them did the same with ram also re-inserted my pci slot display card. Now my hard disk is being detected but the initial startup display is as i have described above.

Flashing / Discolored Lines In Sli Full Screen
Whenever i run a game with sli enabled i get discolored horizontal lines in videos and game screens, they glow really bright. I attempted to take a screen shot however the screen shot does not show the line and discoloration at all. Here is the kicker. This i have only tested with wow, but when i put the game into windowed mode whether maximized or not, this does not happen at all. I have searched and searched and seen this error in other places but no one gave a straight answer on how to fix it. So any ideas you have would be great. Newest possible drivers installed and driver cleaner pro was run on it before re-installation of drivers

5870 Not Going Full Screen
So i';ve finally got my i7 rig together with a gigabyte ex58-ud5 mobo, i7 920 currently @4. 0g (testing in process right now) and an ati (re-flashed to asus) 5870 video card. During one of my video card tests it failed and i think that is when the monitor decided to not go full screen. I have about a 1" blank area the entire way around the display that is not being used sort of like when you are watching a broadcast channel in hd that does go full screen. I've tried adjusting the monitor settings, resetting the monitor settings, and adjusting the screen resolution etc. I also noticed that when the screen goes blank from inactivity that it does not wake back up. Not sure if this is related or not though. Any ideas?
Monitor or video card or a combo of the two?

5870 Screen Tearing
I recently purchased a sapphire branded ati 5870, as i was replacing a geforce card (and because it was about time anyway) i decided to format before installing the card. I installed win 7 ultimate x64, installed the drivers and began experiencing odd screen tearing. Figuring this was a win 7 issue, i formatted again. This time installing vista ultimate x64, installed latest drivers and the screen tearing happened again!
This persisted during gaming, on the desktop and regular apps (word, ie, etc). After disabling the a. I. Feature the tearing stopped occuring during gaming. But tearing on desktop, ie, etc still remains, i don't want to blame this on drivers as if i do waiting till they fix them will most likely take me past being able to rma the card. Any suggestions?
(I know the psu is not great, had one go bad needed a fast replacement. Although if you read this review http://www.Hardwaresecrets.com/article/556 it is more then capable of pausing 700+w so i figure that may not be causing this). Any help is greatly appreciated.

5870 Gray Screen Crash
I had ran my 5870 crossfire setup with this card with no problems. Now i started getting this gray screen lockup issues where about a minute after going into a game i get a lockup with a gray screen. Ive been reading a few ppl in guru3d having the same problem. Is it drivers? My power color never did it but i never ran the 9. 11 b4 driver with a single card until now. Just strange if it was hardware why would i be getting issues now and not with the crossfire setup? I should mention this is happening in cod world at war. Also it was doing this at stock clock. I ran it 900/1300 in my crossfire setup for a while without a single glitch.

5870 Dual Monitor Screen Tear / Flickering
I just got a 5870 from 4870 and immediately noticed that whenever the automatic 2d to 3d clock jumps up to full 850/1200 there is a significant flicker to a tear in the #2 monitor only and when i use extended desktop. It is repeatable and only happens at that point. I graphed it and can see the vccd/vccd1 amp jump is from 2. 6a/4. 2a to 11. 4a/12a>. I am using a msi afterburner/rivatuner instead of the smartdoctor from asus that came with it because i had it with the 4870 and liked it and it also has the low the de-clocking limit at 600mhz/900mz instead of the other 157/300mhz. All the temps are low when this happens 38-40c . No problems at all on single monitor though there is significant throtling up and back for the vccd volt/amp and the clocks. All the time there is not more than 30-40%gpu use. I can reproduce it easily by just scrolling up and down some web pages. When the 2d is flat line (600/900mhz) no problems and when i am in a game or max gpu use no 2nd monitor issue. I have done every switch and combo, hdmi dvi, both dvi ports dont know. It is like a recurring short. Like a lap top i had where the wear on the hinges causes some shorts to the panel but this screen tear or flicker is fast and easy to pin point. Though the vddc amps jump up and down, the gpuz graph looks like a comb or gap tooth smile, the volts are steady flat line during the clocks and amps jumping so the regulator seems ok . I dont know why the amp draw is dropped so low even when the clocks are at 600/900. If everything stayed level there would be no screen tear. Even with the bouncing around there shouldnt be that effect in the 2 monitor for extended desktop. I know there are any number of other people with the issue , i have gotten no response, nor have they , from amd/ati , asus either and have posted at those forums without any corrective experiences. Some suggestions for similar types of problems but nothing for the same . I am using win7 x64 bit home premium. Many other people , not all though, are 7/64 as well though some xp and vista 64 too. I should have enough power i just put a thermaltake xt 750 in and i used a mushkin enhanced 580 with the 4870 and no problem. I had the 580 running this as well till last week and never had a power problem, never had any problem. I built this last nov and have kept up to date with the drivers, put in ccc 10. 2 last week, gigabyte m4a79xtd evo, asus eas5870, phenomii 3. 4 (oc 3. 77 not for testing)965be, gskill ddr3 1600 pc12, 800, 2x samsung f1 750s, xigmatek s1283 cooler, thermaltake xt750, win7 x64 home prem, hp 1270dvd/cd24xsupermulti, liteon 8xbd/dvd combo, cm rc 690 4 scythe s-flex case fans 1sine intake , 3exhaust- top/rear . The card and case are well cooled and heat has not been an issue for this problem, i would appreciate any insights as to what i might do to correct this. I have tried just about all i can think of, some suggestions, remove and reinstall directx with sdk version someone said helped a like situation but heat may have been related to his. Mostly just trying process of elimination. Have taken off or disabled software to check on conflicts. I use the 2nd monitor to keep tool sets or other utilities so i can keep the larger screen in tact or in 2 parts. I tried to make a group but with different size monitors it just isnt right though might be a fix for someone with the issue with twin displays.

5870 / Bfbc2 Loads Into Grey Screen Between Rounds
Between rounds in bfbc2 my card will flicker and then load into a grey screen. I can see all 2d aspects of the game, but all 3d terrain is just a flat gray screen. I have tried 10. 2 and 10. 1 with the latest 10. 1 hotfix. I can usually play the first few rounds without any issues, then about the 3rd or 4th round it will start. Sometimes alt-tabbing and then loading the game back in will resolve the issue, but that only works 3 or 4 times before i have to completely exit and reload the game. Anyone else having similar issues? I can still rma the card for a replacement via newegg, i'm wondering if i should. Temps look good, i have dx9 forced and my load times are actually quite good. When this card is playing it looks great, but the constant loading into a gray screen and artifacting have got to be addressed

5870 Crossfire Performing Worse Than A Single 5870
I just bought 2 5870's today after much research and reading benchmarks they are the way to go, and i have installed them, and in crossfire they are performing, well under what a single 5870 should be doing. My 3d mark vantage score with crossfire is 14, 186. Yes, in crossfire, i heard it should be up near the 22, 000 mark. Also, in mw2 with settings maxed out and crossfire enabled, i am getting an average of 48fps, according to guru 3d it should be 128fps at my resolution with a single card, my old 8800gt's in sli were getting me 90+ and the 5870's should eat the 8800gt's allive and then some. I have the worlds worst luck, so if you guys could point me in the right direction that would be awesome, cause i really want to put my hard earned dollars to work as im sure you can understand.

Black Lines While Gaming
I have an nvidia geforce 7800gt and an hp mx70 monitor. I just recently encountered this problem where when there's heavy action in the game, black lines kind of flash in and out while playing. Not really so much to cause me not to be able to see anything, but enough to be a nuisance. Also, occasionally my display will kind of flicker and lines will come across the screen when there isn't anything intense happening.

Lines In Laptop Display
My laptop has been doing this thing recently where horizontal lines appear on the display. It looks like static or interference maybe. I plugged it in to my desktop monitor to see if it was the graphics card or the display, the lines don't show up on the external monitor. Then when i switched back to the laptop display the problem appears to be solved. I thought i'd post this as reference.

Horizontal Lines All Over A Monitor
My friend is having a problem with jagged, horizontal lines covering his monitor. This obviously sounds like a video card issue and he fixed it for the time being by removing his graphics card and is running through onboard support at the moment. Does this mean his graphics card is fried/ruined or is it reparable?
We were trying to figure out why this happened to his 8800gt since it was purchased in the last year. I asked him what his power supply wattage was and it turns out he was running a amd x2 4800+ and a 8800gt system on only 300w. So i'd assume the psu is the culprit. Is it not uncommon for inadequate power supplies to make video cards or other components fail like his did? Also i don't know if this has anything to do with anything, but he mentioned his heatsink fan dislodged from its sockets for a period of time. His cpu is fine though and suffered no damage. I'd like to make sure he gets this fixed because we spend a lot of time playing online games together. Do you think he'll need a new graphics card and psu? Hopefully the gfx card warranty is still valid if this is the case.

Hp Printer Skipping Lines
My hp office-jet pro 8500, will print however it prints every other line. It's skipping, i recently changed the the blue and pink ink cartridges, and instead of it going through the process of cleaning the print heads like it usually does after you replace the ink. It just said press ok, however when i went to print something it says cleaning printer heads, i was impatient and turned it off. Then turned it back on and now the problem of it printing every other line or only printing one thing.

9.12 Driver Causes Bad Pixel Lines
So i installed 9. 12 drivers on my 5750 and got these strange multi colored lines across the higher portion of my screen and several sets of blue pixels that look sorta like || just randomly shambled along the bottom portion of the screen. When i uninstall the 9. 12 driver and use the default pnp display style the lines go away. I installed the hotfix hoping that it would, fix this issue, alas it did not. Also when i start the computer, the pixelation is not there until it actually boots into windows (not during post). So it's not a cable issue. It is only visible when the drivers actually start. I un/reinstalled the drivers 6 times re-downloading the package three of those times to ensure it wasn't a corrupt download or install. (Tried installing 9. 11 as well same thing)
Does anyone else have this strange issue when using a 5700 card on win 7? Any strange horizontal lines that are multicolored (also only one pixel tall) or multiple blue || marks scattered along the bottom?

Red Vertical Lines On Monitor
How can i find out whats wrong with my dell monitor? My dell 17' inch flat screen monitor has red vertical lines in the middle of my screen. I'm wondering if its a bad cable connection problem. After i boot-up the system up its not there, but within a few minutes the red lines appear. I've tried it with my other systems and the same thing happens. I purchases the monitor directly from dell in 2006w my dell dimension e310 system.could it be that the monitor is wore out, or could it be just a bad cable connection? The cable i have attached to the monitor came with the monitor. If i purchase another one of the same kind would that clear out the red lines on the monitor? Need answer asap before i throw this monitor away & purchase another one those red lines are driving me nuts!
Also which monitor would you recommend for a quad system windows 7?

Hp Photosmart C6180 Scanning Leaves Lines
My hp photosmart c6180 is not scanning very well. It leaves lines down the scan. How can this be fixed? When doing any scan, long white lines go through the whole picture that is being scanned. It happens in every picture and is becoming very annoying as i have only had the printer a few years and have not scanned a lot. The scanner bed appears to be free from debris, so i am not sure what else to do.

Scan Lines On Startup - Windows 7 Wont Boot
I have an nvidia 8800gts video card (not currently as its not working. ) And when i have the evga plugged in, i get video, but i get horrid vertical scanlines where it just looks like the screen is misplaced. When the windows seven logo loads up and it goes to the next screen, it remains black and eventually goes to bsod. I have tried to update the drivers for my 8800gts to no avail. Now. I am currently using my nvidia 8500 gt, but the evga port doesn't work. I get no signal. I have tried using another evga adapter but i still get the same result. As of now im using the regular vga port on my 8500 gt. Have all my adapters gone to crap? Or is there something more going on here. ?

White Lines On Black Display When Connecting Laptop To Tv
I tried connecting my hp pavilion dv6114tx to my tv using a cable (7 pin s-video on one side and rca(yellow for video, red and white for audio), s-video pin on the laptop and yellow rca cable into video input of the tv. I have a nvidia geforce go 7400 256mb graphics card (video bios version =5. 72. 22. 41. Ad). Tried everything including clone, dualview, extending my desktop etc. And see some white lines on a black display on the tv, but could not setup the laptop display onto tv. Moreover now i can't login to normal mode but only vga mode (not even safe mode). Sometimes when im on normal windows boot mode and after the xp logo and startup in progress i see the blue wallpaper with hp logo, and when i quickly press fn+f4 i get the login page, but normally i don't get the login page and fn+f4 only works sometimes, so i have no other option but only to use the vga mode. So help me on the following issues:
1. Log in the normal mode
2.connect my laptop to the tv

Random Bsod And Red Lines In Mass Effect 2 - 8800gt
Ok so i have had this 8800gt for a while now and had to send it in once to xfx before for random bsods. The problem wasnt as bad when it got back but it was still kinda there. I would get bsods very randomly and sometimes not for weeks. So i just recently got mass effect 2 and loaded it up and played it and it worked fine for a little while (i had a extra stick of ram in there i stole from my wifes comp, but it was causing a lot of bsods so i took it out since i think its bad) and then out of the blue it showed a bunch of red lines on the screen and then the computer shuts off the video and needs to be restarted. So i was wondering if this is a temp issue or what. So i got furmark and have been running it on the extreme gpu burn in or whatever mode its called. My max temps in it are 65 and i havent seen anything higher than that. I have ran memtest for my memory all day before and it never has a problem. Here are my full specs:
Intel e6550
Xfx 8800gt alpha dog
2gb ocz gold ddr2 800
Intel dg33bu motherboard
Antec earthwatts 500w
So i guess my question is, should i just send my card in to xfx for them to take a look at it? My card has a arctic cooler on it with the fans and some custom ram sinks my friend sent me. Here is the link to the ram sinks here not sure how good they are but he owns the site so i will take his word they are good.

Hp Psc 1510 Scans Adds Random Colored Lines Across
While my hp psc 1510 all in one printer scans it adds random color lines, across the whole place it scans? Well basically the title says it all, but when i hit the scan button it will scan but a lot of straight lines in different colors (when scanning in black & white and in color) when in color just weird color lines, when in black and white just black lines, so i am wondering if there is a way to fix this? Or is the scanner part just broken?
