Choose Headphones
Im looking for a good multipurpose headphone, definitely gaming and a lot of music, i will be using them with a x fi fatality card, no amp. Ive narrowed it down to these. Sway me one or the other, please, im begging, my head cant take this any longer. Jvc-harx900 - 68$
Sony mdr-v6 - 70$
Sennheiser hd-515 - 69$
Im not sure if any of those headphones would require a amp, but i definitely want to stay away from that. Please help.

How Do I Choose A Macbook?
I currently have a dell inspiron 1520 and, in short, i'm not in love with it. Four of my best friends have a macbook and they absolutely adore them. I want to purchase one before the next semester of college begins. I'm a sophomore majoring in biology/pre-med at the moment, but i may change to architectural engineering. I take lots of pictures and would like to be able to edit them with something along the lines of photoshop but preferably not that expensive. I use the internet a lot as well as microsoft word! I definitely want a aluminum macbook pro!
What picture editing software do you suggest?
Would you choose microsoft office for mac or iwork?
Would you suggest the applecare plan?
1) what is your budget?
Willing to pay whatever for quality but don't want excess
2) what size notebook would you prefer?
13 inch
5) what tasks will you be performing with the notebook?
Word processing, internet surfing, music, lots of pictures, editing, possibly architecture drafting
6) will you be taking the notebook with you to different places or leaving it on your desk?
I need ultra portability for class and going back-and-forth to my house
7) will you be playing games on it; if so, which games?
Nope
8) how many hours of battery life do you need?
As many as possible, i have a packed day of classes
9) do you mind buying online without seeing the notebook in person?
I've looked at and used many macs before so i'm okay with buying online
11) from the choices below, what screen resolutions would you prefer?
No real preference, i might watch the occasional movie
14) when are you buying this laptop and how long do you want this laptop to last?
I want to buy in the next month and i want it to last for all of college
15) how much hard drive space do you want?
I don't know how much i would need. I have many folders full of pictures and save quite a few word documents for class. 16) do you need an optical drive? If yes, a cdrw/dvd-rom, dvd burner or blu-ray drive?
Cd drive for sure, possibly a dvd burner too. 17) how much memory do you need?
I'm not sure how much i need. I like to have several applications open and i like my computer to run swiftly.

Have To Press F11 To Choose To Boot From A Hd
I brought a new power supply (corsair vx 450w), and since then, every time i reset the computer (or turn it off and on), it will find my main hd (western digital wd800jd) but will not boot to it. The boot sequence is set to boot from the hd first of all. It will search the cd/dvd drives, stall for a moment, and go into the nvidia boot agent (my main board is an msi k8n neo platinum), and finally ask for a system disk. But if during reset, i press f11 and specifically choose to boot from a hd, it will boot properly into windows as normal. What could be causing this? How could i fix it?

Choose Between Hitachi / Toshiba / Fujitsu Hard Drive
If you had to choose between a hitachi/toshiba/fujitsu hard drive, which one would you choose? I would have chosen western digital or seagate but out of hitachi/toshiba/fujitsu hard drive, which one would you personally choose and why? They all have the same rpm and capacity.

Hp Scan To Pc Option
Why wont my hp scanner/printer/copier scan to my pc? My scanner used to give me the option of scanning and saving photo or document to my pc. Now, suddenly, i only get 2 options "scan and save to memory card" and scan and reprint.

Hibernation Facility / Option Disappeared In Windows
I had a problem with my laptop, which led me to using the windows xp recovery disk supplied plus the utilities disc as supplied. It solved the problem i had, but created a couple of others. Firstly my hibernation facility disappeared despite me going through the process of enabling it. Secondly, when i boot up, the windows size (max and mim) always start on mim and i have to maximise it manually. But on booting up again all the windows are on the minimum size again. Of course i can live with this, but it is very annoying.

Hp Scanjet 3670 Scanner No Destination Option
I have tried to un-install, re-install with no success. When i press the scan button, it opens a window in which one of the options is to indicate destination for the scanned image. It's a drop-down menu but it is blank and gives me no option what so ever to select any destination. It will not scan if there is no destination so i'm stuck. The scanner software that comes with my windows xp works and communicates fine with the scanner but it is the hp software that won't work. I also tried re-downloading drivers and software with no positive results. I have no clue.

Hard Disc Error - Remove The Windows Exclusive Option
My problem is that i have found a security descripter error on my windows xp computer. The problem is that when i run a scan (using symantec disc doctor) it finds the error but when i run it with fix errors enabled it says that it cannot perform the repair as windows has exclusive use to my hdd. It schedules a reboot scan and that scan come back with no errors. Does anyone know how to correct this problem or remove the windows exclusive option with out reformatting which isn't an option as the error is on my c drive.

Computer Shutdown
I have a intel 850gb mobo and i formatted my hdd 2x thinking it was a bad install. When i hit start, shudown, not restart the computer goes thru the powering down phrase i hear the familiar click of the hdd whichs turns it off and bam, the hdd is off but the mobo and fans including cpu are still on. I replaced the power supply to no avail. I have to hit the reset button then the power button to quickly too turn off computer. Strange, im thinking the mobo is not sending the signal to the power supply commanding it to turn off. My hdd is new and was working finr, i like to reformat my hdd 2x a year to clean off the mess.

Computer Shutdown Randomly
I built my computer a few years ago and have had no problems (p4). Today it decided to shutdown randomly. I tried rebooting but it would turn on like it was going to start but bios would not post and it would shut down after about 5 seconds. My first inclination was that it was a failing power supply. Replaced that without any luck. The odd thing is that when i plug in both power components from the ps to the mobo it turns on and after five seconds turns off;
Yet, when i do not have the 12v 4pin plugged in, the computer stays running, although it does not load windows. I checked the ram, light on mobo is on, nothing smells fried, i'm hoping it is not the mobo.

Pc Shutdown - Buzzing Noises
Recently my computer has been randomly shutting itself down. Immidiatly after the shutdown a loud buzzing/beeping noise occurs from the front of the pc. My computer is custom made from the internet, and so i dont know who to contact. The part making the noise is a small black circular object, about the size of a 10c piece. Its connected to my motherboard by a black/red wire. I believe the wire goes next to the wires for my on/off, reset, and on & working lights. I replaced my hard drive as my university technician told me my hd was seizing, however that isnt the problem. Any ideas suggestions to my problem? Or could someone tell me what this noisey black thing is! And how can i fix it!

Reboots When Shutdown Is Complete
When i go to shutdown on my comp it goes to shutdown then as it has finished shutting down it automatically reboots. Have tried unchecking automatic restart in system properties to no avail, have heard that a new graphics card could be a prob but not too sure about that.

Computer Does Not Turn Off After Shutdown ?
I have an old opteron desktop that i will be using as a home server. The issue i've been having for the past few months is that it will not physically turn off after the os finishes shutting down. It used to, when i was using it as my main desktop, so i have no idea what has changed. What i have tried:
Windows 7 professional x64
Windows server 2008 r2 x64
Windows xp professional sp2
Reset bios
Install nvidia chipset drivers from manufacturer cd
Windows xp sp3
Ubuntu 7. 10
Flash bios to 4/06/2006 from 3/29/2006
Things i have tried since posting:
Unplug hard drives, boot ubuntu livecd, halt
In all of the operating systems i have tried, none can successfully turn off the computer. The only indication that the computer is supposed to have shut off is that i hear something turn off (hard drive maybe), and then all power would normally be cut, but now that sound doesn't happen in xp after installing the nvidia drivers. I have tried disabling usb power suspend in server 2008, with no effect. Any assistance is greatly appreciated!
Edit: the os's shutdown screen remains on the display after it "shuts down". Specs:
Amd opteron 144 1. 8ghz
Dfi lanparty nf4 ultra-d (modded to sli-d)
3gb ddr-400
Two geforce 7600 gt (one is out of the machine right now)
Single 160gb ide hard drive
Single 320gb sata2 hard drive

Pc Reboot When Set To Shutdown
I have a hp dc5700 and i just installed a nvidia 8400 pci. When i shutdown the pc it restarts. I tested without the card and the on board video works fine and the computer shuts down properly. Tried reinstalling the drivers and un-checking automatic reboot to see if it was blue screening, but nothing. There are no errors in the log and the pc works fine. I am leaning toward hardware (either the motherboard or video card). Any suggestions?

Manually Shutdown A Hdd Through Software
I was wondering if there exists software to manually shutdown a hdd. I have one that i don't use all the time and tends to get hot, so i would like it to rest untill i need it, maybe also to safe power and extend lifetime of the drive. A google search doesn't seem to get me to usefull info.

Windows Has Been Shutdown To Prevent Damage To Your Computer
When i'm installing from my windows xp disk the initial blue screen comes up saying it's loading all the stuff from the cd basically and then i get the error message as follows:-
A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer. If this is the first time you've seen this stop error screen, restart your computer. If this screen appears again, follow these steps:
Check to be sure you have adequate disk space. If a driver is identified in the stop message, disable the driver or check with the manufacturer for driver updates. Try changing video adapters. Check with your hardware vendor for any bios updates. Disable bios memory options such as caching or shadowing. If you need to use safe mode to remove or disable components, restart you computer, press f8 and select advanced startup options, and then select safe mode. Technical information:
*** Stop: 0x0000007e (0xc0000005, 0xf748e0bf, 0xf78da208, 0xf78d9f08)
*** Pci.sys - address f748e0bf base at f7487000, datestamp 3b7d855c
I have no idea what would cause this. I'm over-clocking my cpu some some bios settings are changed, could setting them back to defaults solve this issue? It doesn't really make sense to me. Please, i'd be grateful for any advice.

Computer Idle Mode - Which Is Better Shutdown Or Standby ?
Since shutdown takes huge power while start up and shut downing the system and standby also consumes power. For better power usage. I want suggestion on shutdown and standby. Depending upon the time that computer sits idle. (i.e if computer is idle for 1 hr it is better to shutdown.

Can A Hardware Button Utilize The Software Shutdown In Windows?
Can you wire a button into a computer (through serial, mobo jumpers, whatever) with a suitable utility so that the button doesn't do a hard powerdown (atx style) but instead uses the windows shutdown?
What would be even more convinient is if the same button could be used for power on / shutdown, but i'm not sure if that is possible. I guess the easiest solution is if there is a utility that lets the atx power on/off button access the windows shutdown sequence. Is there?
Does anyone understand what i'm asking, and does anyone have any suggestions?

How do i use the 'middle click' option on my compaq presario cq60 laptop? I'm downloading a game on my computer and it says that the middle click option will be needed. Does anyone know how to activate it? Or is it already on my computer? If not, please tell me how to make it like that.

Does Windows ' Turn Off Hard Disks ' Option Affect Drive Lifespan ?
Does anyone know if the windows (xp home in this case) "turn off hard disks" option in power options properties > power schemes will affect the amount of wear and tear on a hard drive or how long the drive will last? I'm not worried about the power consumption, i just want to avoid excess wear and tear on the drive.

Power Issue On Shutdown, Fans Do Not Stop, Led Flicker
Just put together a new machine, but using an old antec case and 350w psu (antec sl350s) and some other old hardware. First i started just plugging in the mobo with ram and heatsink (so, no peripherals connected, not even hd or the video card) and i notice that when i power down by holding down the front power button, the cpu fan stops, but the case and psu fans keep going! I have to switch off using the psu switch to shut everything down. Well, that's weird, but i still move on. However, with all the new hardware plugged in, the problem gets worse. Now when i switch off using the front power button:the case and psu fan are still onthe power led is off, but the hd led starts flickering very rapidlythe floppy drive starts grinding loudly and angrily; leave the system in this state, and the grinding dies down (but never goes away), then comes back after a few minutes, although i haven't done anything (the box is just sitting there)
The real problem is, the system does not boot after that! If i turn off the psu switch, then turn it back on, the clicking/flickering comes back. Pushing the front power button makes the cpu fan jerk, but it does not start on and the system does not start booting. But if i wait a few minutes with the psu switched off, i can boot up after that. This need to wait for a while is bothering me. What could be going wrong? Are these symptoms of a faulty power supply? How should i proceed diagnosing this?
So to conclude, my system goes into this weird twisted state where hd led flickers and floppy clicks at about the same rate and the power/reset button do nothing. The state is reachable if i power down using the front power button, or if i flip the psu switch off and back on after that (but if i wait for a few minutes before switching it back on, then fans do not come back on and i can boot just fine). My system (items marked "new" are the stuff i just bought, the rest is components that have been working for at least a few months):
Cpu: amd athlon 64 x2 5000+ 2. 60ghz dual-core (new)
Cpu heatsink/fan: noctua nh-c12p cpu cooler (new)
Motherboard: asus m2n-sli (new)
Ram: 2 x 1024mb ocz platinum revision-2 pc6400 ddr2 800mhz dual channel (new)
Video card: evga geforce 6200 256mb ddr2 pci video card (only bought it because mobo doesn't have on-board video, dang) (new)
Psu: 350w antec sl350s
Hard drive: 160gb sata 3. 0gb/s samsung spinpoint
Other peripherals: promise 2-port sata 3. 0gb/s raid controller card
Case: antec slk3700-bqe
Case fan: some 120mm antec fan that came with the case

Continuous Restarts
My machine has just today started totally freaking out - it will restart unexpectedly, and it is constantly giving me the ms "program xxx has encountered an error and must close" window for any number of programs (atitool, ccc, system restore, firefox, all sorts of things), and then restarting again, this started after i tried to turn off the machine (via start menu) and it would just restart instead. I can't find any odd processes running, and i even defragged just yesterday. I tried safemode and ran avast virusscan to look for viruses, and it even restarted then. I can't get through a scan w/o a restart. I'm totally perplexed - i build this system from scratch in january and this is the first and only thing that has gone awry that i haven't been able to pinpoint within minutes. Any ideas? Hardware failure? It's currently up and running for ~ an hour w/o issues but i'm not at all convinced the gremlin has departed.

New Pc Auto Restarts
Was hoping to get some insight on why my new pc i just built, automatically restarts from time to time. . Um, i think that's all the relevant info, let me know if i'm leaving anything out. Anyways, it runs beautifully 95% of the time. But occasionally, at ostensibly random times, it will just restart. Sometimes, it's in the middle of playing a game. Sometimes, it's at night when i'm asleep, and there are no tasks running at all. Sometimes, it's when i'm reading e-mail. It restarts, then i get the simple windows error message, "the system has recovered from a serious error. " And this happens maybe 2-3 per week, since i built the pc a month ago. I doubt this will help, but if anyone can interpret the error signature. Its "bccode :
100000d1 bcp1 : 1000a8dc bcp2 : 00000002 bcp3 : 00000000
Bcp4 : ba5bfa4f osver : 5_1_2600 sp : 2_0 product : 256_1"
Also, i have speedfan, which is supposedly a temp monitor, but i sort of doubt its accuracy. It has my system temp average at about 40-42c, which, right or not, gives me a good idea of the relative temp. My specs:
-Core2 6600 @ 2. 4
-2 gb crucial
-Windows xp pro sp2
-Msi 975x platinum board
-Turbolink 500w ps
-Gforce 7950 gt 512mb
-Raptor 10k rpm hdd

Computer Self Restarts
My computer self-restarts about 3 seconds after power down every-time unless i throw the switch on the power supply. I only have to turn off the power supply during that one 3 second moment; i can turn it back on immediately after without the computer turning on. This only happens after a normal soft off, and not if i hard off the system (holding the power button 5 seconds or whatever). Also happens if the system tries going into suspend mode, putting it into a zombie-like on-but-won't-wake-up state. All wake-on-(x) options are off in bios. Problem persisted before and after a new case build. In the old case build, i would hear an audible click from somewhere at the restart moment 3 seconds after power off, whether or not i had turned the power supply off. Any ideas?
