System Crashes On Attempt To Install Usb Ports

Each time windows boots up and the system attempts to find and install my usb ports, just after roughly about 10-15 secs the system crashes, and the screen goes black (pc still running). This happens everytime the installation begins, shortly after the "windows has found a new hardware" pops-up. Isolation - so far to isolate possible causes, i've tried booting the machine in safe mode, but to no avail - the problem persists. Also, i've gone as far to disable the usb ports from the bios menu, thus allowing the machine to boot and run successfully - but that doesn't fix the problem, it only isolates it.

System With Xp Crashes
I've noticed that the crashes occur mostly (lately it seems only) the first time i boot the system on a daily basis. It starts windows xp without problems, but give it 15 minutes or so. Sometimes much less, sometimes a lot longer. And *poof* blackscreen and reboots. I deactivated the "reboot on system crash" option in windows xp to get some sort of blue screen. It gave me one of those 0x0000000 stop errors, but the error i got didn't give me any reasonable results with google. Tons of errors that "looked" like it, but not the same code. The blue screen made some "suggestions" which brought me to the memory and the video card. "Maybe it's this. Maybe it's not"; nothing conclusive in the blue screen. Tried to access adress; page fault kinda error. But the tests gave me pass as result! What tests?

Stumped On System Build Crashes
Hardware install went fine, i installed the newest drivers for forceware, nforce chipset drivers and i installed the updates for the soundblaster as well as installing all the windows updates. The pc runs fine except when playing games, it randomly crashes in far cry and hl2/source games. There is no bsod the computer just stops and the last sound stutters for a moment and then it reboots. I don't see anything suspicious is event viewer other than a few "an error was detected on device deviceharddisk0d during a paging operation. " Entries in the system log, but these aren't happening when the crashes occur. When i open the mini dump file i think it's telling me nv4_mini.sys is the problem which i know is a video card driver file. I ran memtest86 for 8 hours and didn't get any errors.nvidia monitor says 34c cpu 38c system 62c gpu. Ive tried older drivers, newer drivers, updating the bios, doing a reformat/reinstall, checked all the bios settings, and trying different video settings in game and in windows. Im trying to figure out what to troublshoot next can anyone please give me a clue?

What is a good stress/burn in test to test new pcs or diagnose intermittent problems? I'm having very intermittent program crashes on my xp pro system myself but also would come in handy as i have to build two pcs for family members. In particular i would like programs that do a thorough memory test. I work in electronics so i know good memory tests that test every cell of the memory and do complement read/writes etc. Can take a long time as opposed to quick boot up type memory tests. Free programs of course are best but would pay for a killer program that was really good.

Is it likely it might help with the problems i've been having? A 600w psu should be more than enough. Usb Flash Crashes With Device Not Recognized Error
My trusty 8gb trancend pico keychain usb drive died today as i was backing it up, oh the irony. I didn't loose anything i don't have stashed in other places, but it i am wondering if i can try and grab whatever is there and not corrupt with some software? Most of the free-ware and trial stuff i have tried doesn't work unless the drive is assigned a drive letter, but it's not recognized by either of my systems now, is this a wasted effort or is there something free that will mount it and get what is readable?

I purchased a refurbished dell ( inspiron ) i9200 laptop a few months ago, haven't used any 2. 0 devices until last week, when i plug it in it says my ports are all normal speed, however i know they're supposed to be 2. 0. I can't seem to find drivers or anything that will make them 2. 0. And dell won't talk to me because i didn't buy it new from them i bought it from a certified reseller. Any ideas on what to do?

I bought a whole computer but didn't buy a floppy drive, i noticed that the dfi lanparty mobo i'm getting has a floppy disk included, and i would imagine my caviar se sata drive has a floppy bundled with it for installation (unsure though, just assuming), is a floppy drive really needed to install a system?

I'm installing another hard drive into my system, so i can put linux on it. When i opened the case i found out the the alienware system used sata not a regular ata hard drive. I never installed an sata hard drive with another one already in there. I'm buying another serial ata 15-pin female-to-4-power connector / serial ata adapter, which looks like this: and a sata hard drive, i also have extra serial sata cable which look like this, and i know go into the motherboard: but is that all i need? I'm confused on how the new hard drive is going to get power, or do i hook up the black end (14 pin) to the new hard drive then hook the 4 pin white part to the female port on the far right hand corner of the old sata hard drive already in my system and thats it? Or do i just connect the connect the black 14 pin into the sata hard drive then connect the white end to that hanging power cord by my ram?

Data Recovery Attempt Using Test Disk
I am attempting to restore lost data from an 80gb hard drive. Since i don't really want to deal with the lost data right now, i'd rather just image the drive and store it on my 350gb hard drive. I used the dd command to duplicate the drive to 80gb. Iso. Strangely, i get different results between the drives when using testdisk. On the physical drive, testdisk finds several lost partitions. On 80gb. Iso it only finds a few. What explains the difference between these results? I am worried that the image of the hard drive won't be as good as the original.

Assembling a rig for a friend; after troubleshooting various hardware problems, got it to correctly display video and recognize all the hardware. My trouble starts when i try to install windows. I boot the disc, go to install it (the point where it says 'press enter to continue' right before it checks the drives and whatnot), press enter, and without error message the system reboots. Usb Ports Not Working
My sons patriot pt 2980 usb ports suddenly stopped working a few weeks ago, at first we thought it may have just been his wireless adapter that was plugged into a usb port, we tried it in another usb port and reloaded the drivers for it. But everytime we plugged it in a message would come up saying the device was malfunctioning, i then tried other usb devices and the same message came up regardless of which usb port i was using, i have checked the devices on my own pc and all work fine. I tried a system restore and that was to no avail, and have just restored his pc to factory settings, but as soon as reinstall the software for the devices it comes up with the same malfunctioning message again.

Reassigning Usb Ports
How would one reassign or reset usb ports. I have a bluetooth dongle in one of my usb ports. I would like to move my dongle and use another device in the port that was used for the dongle. I've had problems doing this and would like to know if there is a way of resetting the usb port identities.

2 of these usb ports are usb 2. 0
4 of these usb ports are the old usb 1. 1
Xp and knoppix confirm it. But physically all 6 usb ports look identical. How do i identify the the usb 2. 0 ports? The new usb device i purchased recommends that, i connect it to a usb 2. 0 port for optimal performance. The back side of the pc is located in an inconvenient spot. I want to avoid pulling out the existing usb devices, as much as possible.

I spilled water on my pda charger and chip reader. I immediately pulled plugs out of ports. I did not safely remove plugs, as i found out later. How can i restore the ports so i can hot sync my pda and read chip from my digital camera?

What does this mean - 4 ports or 2 ports ?

Usb 3 Ports On The Front
If you have a new mb with usb3 external (on back) and internal (for case plugs), will you be able to use a case with usb ports on the front? Seems like you would need usb 3 inter mb ports and case ports that are usb3 sockets for things to work, correct?
So, one would then have to wait for cases to become avail with usb 3 ports on the front.

Usb Ports Problem
I just got a new front panel today, and when i first installed the jumpers into the usb headers, i got sloppy and had one of them in reverse. Anyway, now none of my usb ports are functioning properly or recognize anything. This includes the ports in the back, directly part of the motherboard. If i stick my old wireless mouse receiver in one of the usb ports, it gives a dim blinking green light vs a bright solid if the ports were working fine. This isn't a windows problem because it dims right at boot-up and continues in both xp and 7. I've tried removing all front panel jumpers, resetting bios settings, updating/flashing bios and clearing cmos. Any other ideas/suggestions? I know pci cards for usb ports exist, but i'd only do that as a last resort.

Problem With Usb Ports
My computer is unable to recognize any usb devices, my friend said all of the usb ports stopped functioning correctly as soon as he plugged a microsoft mouse into the ps/2 slot. He restarted the computer and plugged his mouse into the usb port and nothing happened. It is as if the microsoft mouse did something that disabled something concerning usb functionality. I can't get any of my flash drives or my external hard drive to work. Do i have to reformat the drive? Or is there a way to undo what the mouse "might" have done?
So far i can see that the usb ports being detected in the computer under device manager because i can see them as "this device is working properly".

New Pc Build, None Of My Usb Ports Will Work
Built this new gaming machine and powered it. Everything seems fine, the leds, the fans, the dvd drive. I'm trying to set the bios up for the mother board but none of my usb ports will work. None on the extra card, not even the ones built on the motherboard. That is the only thing wrong. Any ideas?
3200+ amd 64
K8n neo4 motherboard
6800gt 256mb nvidia geforce graphics card. 1gig of ram
80gig sata hard drive
