Creative Issues With Multi Monitors
Replies: 7 | Post Date: 06-20-2009, 08:47 AM | User: Instynx | Forums: hardforum.comPretty much from day one with the new tv i've had issues with loud static, and random (left to right channel) popping sounds coming from the speakers and headphones, so it has to be coming from the sound card. It only seems to happen when i have the tv on as a second monitor. I first noticed it while trying to watch a movie in windows media player on the tv, then it started being prevalent while playing call of duty 4 on the 20" monitor with the tv on with my xfire, ventrilo, and firefox open. It seems like the extra duty the gpu is putting out interferes with the sound card or something. I've tried moving them both to a different slot but it didn't make any difference. Does anyone know of anything else that could be causing this? Maybe a power issue? I've got a 650 watt psu (seasonic s12). I'm thinking i might just have to throw in the towel and junk my $130 sound card. Ugh. P. S. I've also got an issue to where if i leave it in one audio mode (entertainment or game) for more than a couple hours the sound goes completely to s*** and i'm forced to switch modes and go back, forcing me to close any and all sound producing applications (itunes, wmp, firefox) otherwise they freeze. For example i like to play a playlist in itunes as i go to sleep, but when i wake up and try to play something its completely garbled and staticky (loud too). So here is my setup: creative x-fi titanium pro, logitech z-2300 speakers, turtle beach 5. 1 headset (splitters between them to output audio to both), xfx gtx 285, dfi lanparty p45-t2rs mobo, samsung 206bw monitor, and here's the new addition: samsung 640 series 32" lcd television connected via dvi-to-hdmi cable. I have the audio out from the tv also spliced into the feed for the speakers.

Creative Inspire 7.1 Multi Channel Speaker Problem
Ok well, about a week ago i ordered off for some speakers, creative inspire 7. 1 multi-channel, so they get here and i realize that my sound card doesn't support them (the connections) so today (got speakers yesterday) i go and buy a sound blaster live! Sound card that supports 7. 1. I hook them up and only 2 speakers are working and the subwoofer. I have my computer configured to 7. 1 home theater system so i don't know what the problem is. Everything is hooked up right, all drivers and everything else. Anyone have any idea how to get my other 5 speakers to work?

4890 For Multi Monitors
I have 3 lcds so i will need two video cards to output to them all. What card should i pair with a 4890? Should i get one in the 4000 series to make sure that the drivers will work fine? I don't want to run crossfire, it gives me nothing but problems since i would have to switch in and out of crossfire mode when i wanted to game.

Multi Partitioning
This is the first time i've considered multi-partitioning since windows 95. I remmeber in those days when your hard-drive exceded windows 95's limit you had to partition it as such that you had multiple hard drives. I want to know how to do that on a modern hard drive? Why in god's name would i want to do that? Well, to be honest, vista is not worth running when you're talking about 32-bit applications, dx9. And so on. So what i want to do is create three partitions. One for windows xp, one for vista (both of which are just enough to hold the software and a few extra gig's for virtual ram) and finally the third a large partition that shows up as a second drive that both windows xp and vista can run software from. Planning to buy a large hard drive for this. If you think multiple drives would be better let me know.

Card Reader / Multi Panel
I was wonder what the best multi panel / card reader is for about $50, i already have a large vantec for my fan controller. In fact my full tower is full but i think i can remove on of my cd-roms. 3 is a bit excessive anyways. Or i can remove the 5. 25 inch panel that i mounted a switch to to controll my blacklights. And mount it elsewhere. I want one with usb 2. 0 ports, and reads cd and memory stick. I have an eclipse hu (cd-player in my truck) that takes memory stick and can rip cd's to mp3 so i would like to have a way to easily transfer music from the cd player to pc or visa versa. I been looking at svc and newegg but need some feedback as to what to look for or stay away from.

Multi Format Card Reader
Just kind of curious to know who makes a good performing usb2. 0 or firewire multi-format card reader. Like an 8-in-1 reader that can read sd, xd, ms, cf. Etc. Theres a ton of them out there, and the one i currently have is an old sandisk usb1. 1 cf reader. I've since went to sd not long ago, and i want something that has some quick read/write times and can read multiple formats. I will mostly be using cf and sd, as that is what my canon eos digital rebel and magellan meridian use. Anyone out there know of any good make/models? If internal, looking for 3. 5" version that will fit in floppy drive bay and uses internal headers to connect to the pc, or if external (preferred). Nothing too bulky as it will probably get mounted on the side or the bottom of a shelf on my desk. So far i've kinda been looking at sandisk's 8-in-1 reader, but i don't really like how it stands vertically on the desk. (As i want to mount it on the side or the bottom of a shelf), a transcend 7-in-1 reader, or the lexar 12-in-1 reader.

Defining Multi Tasking Programs
I'm currently in the midst of a quad vs duo core battle with myself, and i think that particular issue comes down to "are you multi-tasking or not?" Due to the fact that quad-cores are known to reliably handle many programs more efficiently. The question i have is "when exactly am i switching over from non-multi-tasking to multi-tasking?"
As an example, i'm using a opteron 165 dual core atm. Good cpu, had it maybe a year or so now, getting a little old. Normally when i'm on my computer i'm running:
Two instances of firefox with 5-10 tabs each. (Research and play xd)
Itunes
Videogame (wow, fallout3, etc, etc) at 1920x1200 with as high settings as i can get considering my current graphics card (8800gt)
At times i'll also be watching a movie (either having the sound play as i play my video game or tabbing in and out of said game). I also (occasionally) render apopyhsis fractals, but when i do this i basically have to stop whatever else i'm doing on the computer. (This would benefit more from the quad if my knowledge is correct)
Does the above use constitute "multi-tasking"? Would it change things if i had two monitors instead of 1 and had those things going on both screens (no alt tabbing for the movie!)?

How Is Eyefinity Different Than The Multi Monitor Gaming ?
How is eyefinity diff than the multimonitor gaming that ati cards could do years ago?. I agree with everyone else that it's neat and all, in fact, i have 3 24"'s in an eyefinity setup. However, i remember running 2 19" panels a few years ago and being able to play hl2ep2 (yes valve, it was years ago, get to work on ep3) spanned across the two displays. Of course, there was a big bezel right in the middle of my view, but it still worked. Is eyefinity just the ability to run more than 2 displays off a single card, or is there something different going on that warrants all of the fuss?

Multi Head Hard Drives
To anyone who really understands hard drives, would it make sense to have multiple head arrays (the reading-things below)? And, specifically, why or why not?
I would imagine that a multi-head hard drive would simply act like raid, because you'd have multiple heads pulling data off the platters simultaneously. I've long, long wondered why they don't just do that to multiply the speed of hd's. (Realizing also, of course, that they seem to have no intention of allowing hard drives to progress any faster each year than the fixed rate at which they do)

Emachines - Multi Monitor Setup
So i have a client that has an emachines w3611. He wants to set up at least 6 monitors on this computer. I am trying to figure out the best way to do it. Right now he has a pci-e video card that now has 2 monitors running on it. There are 2 pci slots available, and i am looking to possibly fill those with some dual vga/dvi cards to allow for additional monitors. Anyone see any problem with that? This client will not be doing any gaming, this is mostly for stock trading.

Physx Multi Screen Setup
Just a quick question, will the following work on standard dual x16 pci-e 2. 0 motherboard, 1 x gtx260 powering 2 x displays (main gpu)
1 x 9800gt being used as a dedicated physx card also power 2 x displays (secondary gpu)
Basically i want to know if i can dedicate the 9800gt to do physx and use it to power 2 displays at the same time as i want to keep my 4 way display set-up and have dedicated physx.

Multi Boot And Different Hard Drives
So i just built my computer, i have 2 hard drives, both 7200 rpm, one is 160gb and one is 500gb. So basically, i want to install and have both vista and xp, and will be doing alot of video editing and some gaming. So i was wondering what is the most advantageous way of installing these operating systems on my computer?
Will i want to partition one hard drive and put both operating systems on it, and use the other hard drive for data, etc? If i do that is it fine to save programs like adobe photoshop onto the other hard drive and then run it from both operating systems? Will i experience a decrease in performance?
Or will i want to install xp on one hard drive and vista on the other? I read for video editing it is good to have a separate dedicated drive for something, not too sure what they mean.

Best Creative Driver Cleaner
I am upgrading from an audigy 2zs to a auzentech forte in the next couple of days. I run vista ultimate x64 and xp sp3 dual-boot. Xp has all of the creative stuff installed, vista just has the latest creative-released driver (6. 0. 1. 1370) and nothing but alchemy and creative audio console. What is the best, current software to to scrub all of this stuff up after a regular uninstall and before a forte install? I have driversweeper 1. 5. 5 and driversweeper b2 (guru3d)
If there's any other transition tips, please speak up.

Alternative Creative Drivers
Ok, now first off. Yes i have an x-fi. And yeah i know there are so many superior choices, but work with me here. Suffice it to say, creative drivers suck more than my dyson. I get occasional fuzz, my speaker config keeps going mia (randomly puts me in 2. 1 mode), and heaven help me if i change my default recording input (using a plat drive). It takes about a half an hour to get my mic back on for gaming. Googling shows a few out there, but does anyone here have any experience with some they'd recommend?
On a side note, i'm completely done with creative when i pitch this card. Their driver fail has been going on since the sb live's were popular for pete's sake. *Edit* win7 ult x64 btw

Multi Driver Vs Dolby Surround Headsets
I'm thinking about getting the logitech g35 7. 1 (usb) dolby surround headset (or possibly waiting for the razer megalodon), but i have read a few comments where people prefer the 8 driver (tritton/astro 5. 1) over the dolby technology. I've seen mostly negative comments about most multi-driver headsets, but the tritton 5. 1 has a lot of favorable reviews. I wanted to get the general opinion on here first, multi-driver worth trying out?

Optical Audio Multi Port And Hdmi
I currently have an xbox 360, a ps3 and a pc that all have optical audio outputs. However, my logitech z5500's control unit only has one optical audio input. Is there such a thing as a multiple optical audio unit that would support all three devices to plug into one receiver?
Also, can you guys recommend a good multi hdmi unit as well? Nothing too expensive, looking in the $50 range, if possible.

Toshiba Laptop Sd Multi Reader Card
How does an sd multireader card work on a toshiba laptop? I've accidentally deleted photos on my sony cyber-shot camera and purchased a $20 optex: digital memory card reader from walmart to retrieve my photos from my 2. 0 gb sd card. I'm not sure if i inserted my sd card correctly or if it even properly fits. When i do insert the usb into my laptop the "removable disk (:f)" drive appears, however it keeps asking me to insert a disk in(which i though i did). Can someone please help me figure out how to use my optex sd reader in order to retrieve my pictures back.

Creative Front Bay Not Working
I can't get my front bay for my audigy 2 zs working. I'm running windows 7 64 bit. Below is what it shows in the options. If someone can direct me to a link to install a driver or something for the front bay, i'm all ears! It worked fine in xp. I think this is a vista problem too. It has power (red optical is lit). Just no sound. Options greyed out

Creative X-fi Series And Hardware Acceleration
I have a creative x-fi model (cheap one) that i'm told does not do any hardware acceleration ("extreme audio" i think), also have the asus rog iii motherboard that came with a small pci-e sound card that i'm told also doesn't do any hardware processing. I was left wondering, what's the cheapest creative x-fi sound card that does hardware acceleration, taking the sound processing away from the duties of the cpu ? There are so many models i can' tell one from another any more. I'm not that fussy, i just want a decent sound-card that handles hardware acceleration.

Logitech Z-5500 And Creative Sb X-fi Sound Card
Well i have the logitech z-5500 as i want to scare the neighbors! The only problem is that it only comes with a direct style connection (not sure of the exact terminology) and my brand spanking new creative sound blaster x-fi sound card has a digital in/out on it. (It has an optical option)
Now when i used the direct color coded cables that came with the speakers, i can get a 6 channel direct sound mode that is not all the bad. However, i was the best i can get with my setup. I have an optical cable, but when i connect the optical cable into the speaker system and my pc, nothing happens and it does not recognize a digital connection. What am i doing wrong? Does anyone else have a logitech z-5500 that is hooked up with a digital connection? I am so frustrated and confused with technology right now it is ridiculous!

I tried everything, whiping the registry, drivercleaner, can you guys recommend me something, i can't do system restore because i would lose too much data, last time i used this card was a good while back.

Creative X-fi Elite Pro Driver Problems
I've got windows xp sp3, not vista, yet the creative x-fi elite pro driver just crashes my system. I can only install the driver in safe mode (else my computer shuts off after a blue screen), when i restart and boot in normal mode, windows freezes at it's loading screen. If i disable the hardware, everything works fine. If i enable it through windows, windows freezes when attempting to enable the hardware. Instead of a freeze, i sometimes get the bsod with the error of stop 0x0000007e. I've tried:
- Different pci port
- Driver on cd (for windows xp)
- Driver from creative's website, also for xp
- Reinstalling it a couple hundred times
- Windows install the driver instead of creative software
- Disabled onboard audio codec & uninstalled realtek audio codecs
- Every possible google result
I've tried everything i could think of - any other ideas?
I'm left with hating creative and thinking it might even be the hardware. Anyone have any similar problems?

Creative Xi-fi Drivers From Website Not Digitally Signed ?
I'm trying to track the cause of a recent slowdown in my vista shut down time, and i noticed that dxdiag reports that my creative xi-fi drivers are not digitally signed. I have been using the latest xi-fi drivers for vista 64 from creative's drive page. (Driver ver. 2. 18. 0008). The card is a xi-fi xtremegamer. I just did a clean reinstall of these drivers to make sure, and dxdiag still reports that they are unsigned. Does anyone else have this problem? The drivers are release drivers and are not beta, trying to figure out what else may be causing this. My os is vista x64, here are the details from dxdiag:
-
Dxdiag notes

Display tab 1: no problems found. Display tab 2: no problems found. Sound tab 1: the file ctaud2k.sys is not digitally signed, which means that it has not been tested by microsoft's windows hardware quality labs (whql). You may be able to get a whql logo'd driver from the hardware manufacturer. Sound tab 2: the file ctaud2k.sys is not digitally signed, which means that it has not been tested by microsoft's windows hardware quality labs (whql). You may be able to get a whql logo'd driver from the hardware manufacturer. Sound tab 3: no problems found. Input tab: no problems found.

Creative Ddl/dts Encoder Pack
I picked it up to play with it for my new receiver. It works, it encodes the audio and sends it to the receiver. But it distorts sound sometimes. It isn't a case of the speakers or amp distorting or anything, i can switch over to analogue inputs and have no problems. It is the encoder.

Creative X-fi Usb Sound Card Windows 7
I've had this for about a year now and its worked great. I bought it originally as a way to pass through optical from my computer to my receiver. Now my previous setup is long gone and i still use this external card with my krk rp 5 g2's. Its worked great but i never once installed the creative software. Today i was browsing creative website and i noticed an updated driver for windows 7 for this device updated sep 2nd. I decided to give it a shot and download it. First thing i noticed was the crystallizer and cmss 3d. Both add some "flavor" to the music which i actually enjoy. Second thing i noticed was hey! I can use the knob on my sound-card after a year of having it to control the sound but alas, theres now one huge annoying issue. Snap, crackle, and pop! Every so often at random during music playback (windows media player, pandora one, etc) i would hear this. Is there any available fix or unofficial drivers to alleviate this? I want to be able to use this damn knob. But not at the cost of annoying cracking.

Auzentech Card With Creative Drivers Problem
So i used to have a creative x-fi xtreme gamer fatility pro sound card. On xp, the cmss-3d stereo xpand worked fine. It vista and windows 7, any voices/vocals get basically muted. I bought an auzentech card this time to see if it was any better, but their drivers are all the same as creative. The stereo xpand feature still doesn't work. I have to use stereo surround which i don't consider nearly as good. Does anyone else have this problem?

Using Creative I/o Panels With X-fi Xtrememusic Sound Card
Can someone tell me if the i/o panel from an audigy 2zs platinum will work with an x-fi extreme music sound card the two units look very similar but there is a world of difference in the price. I require the i/o panel to get front audio port connectivity for my centurion 532 case. This would be ideal if it were possible and a lot less mess than re-wiring sockets etc. Also would there be any conflicts software driver wise if they were compatible. I have the installation cd for the x-fi extreme music but no drivers for the x-fi platinum are these available from creative site? The i/o drive would not be required to have any other function other than the front audio port connection facility. If other options were available with this set-up it would be classed as a bonus.
