Pc Wont Boot And Monitor Switches Into Power Saving Mode
My problem is that my pc won’t start up. First, the monitor sets on (green light) but then immediately switches into power saving mode (no view at all), and meanwhile the pc boots up, runs for about 10 seconds, and then the internal speaker recites a beep code (once only). I’ve recorded it, so it can be heard at http://media. Putfile.com/bios-beep-code. The pc won’t show any image on the monitor when starting up, not at any point, the monitor just goes straight to power saving mode. My motherboard is asus a8n-sli deluxe, bios rev. 1016. Ok, here's what i've got so far:
I have booted the pc with only the motherboard, the video card, the processor and the power supply unit on. The beep code still persists, listen here: http://media. Putfile.com/bios-beep-code. Then i took off the video card, and the beep didn't change.could this mean that the card is responsible since the monitor doesn't show any image, and because the card isn't registering at all, and thus producing the beep whether it is onboard or not? Or should i look at the power supply unit, the motherboard or the processor, all unlikely?
I've ruled out the ram as the cause of the problem, i've got 4 sticks of it and i've tested each stick individually. Also, the psu does generate power to the pc as it does go on, the power light is on, the gpu led is on as is the motherboard led. The fans are all working as well. I've also re-set the cmos, replaced the cmos battery and double checked all the wirings in the pc. I've left the psu and the monitor cables detached from anything for more than an hour to clear any static charges as well. All the dusty parts have been cleaned. Well, as i have an award bios, the beep code suggests that it's the video card that's the problem here. The problem is, that i haven't got another card to test, and no compatible pc to test the current card in. Should i buy a new card? It'll be an expensive step, and i dare not go there if i'm not sure. I've recorded the whole start-up process with all the loading clicks in case of anything unusual, you can listen to it here: http://media. Putfile.com/pc-start-up-sounds. Tell me if you hear anything out of place other than the beep code. What i'd like to know now, is that what is the most likely culprit? I can and will replace it, but i'm not keen on having to replace the video card, the psu, the motherboard and the processor before the set-up finally works.

Pc Takes A Long Time To Boot Up
First: it takes from 20 minutes to 2 hours to boot up, i don't see anything in the monitor, but the fan in the power supply spins and the fan at top of the processor also works, only the red light of the hard disk turns on. I have tried with another hard disk that works fine in another pc, and it's the same, it takes forever to boot up. I have replace the power supply from 250 to 450 and i still have that problem. Second: after waiting that long for the pc to boot up, the cpu clock speed reads 733 mhz instead of 1700. I reset the jumper in the motherboard, to get the correct speed, but i have to do this everytime the computer has been off for a while. Are the two problems related? Is the motherboard bad? Once the pc boot ups, it works fine.

Excessive Computer Boot Time
I'm a certified computer technician. I'm working on my pals computer, and for the life of me i have never had such an slow boot. I did disk cleanup, followed by a defrag (which took almost a full day). In the four or so years this computer has existed i don't think it has once been defraged or cleaned up but anyways i also went into msconfig and got rid of all startup processed except the ones necessary for startup (obviously). This is a duo core (1. 66 per core) computer with 1gb ram. I figure it may be the ram however, i just checking here to see if anyone else has any ideas how i could speed up the boot, the bios is default, everything checks out okay. So disk cleanup followed by defrag and then msconfig. What did i miss? It's windows xp, so it's odd that it takes like 4 minutes to boot (even with 1gb ram).

Pc Takes A Very Long Time To Complete The Boot Up Sequence
My daughter has a dell inspiron 1150 laptop which seems to have some sort of memory conflict of sort. It takes a very long time to complete the boot-up sequence and then, for no apparent reason simply slow down to a halt when opening a program (microsoft word, for example). The fan starts working overtime and processing performance slows to a halt. The task manager shows that most of the resources are being consumed by the system idle process. I have run spybot and adaware and mcafee anti-virus and nothing one turns turns up any problems. Any suggestions as to where to look next?

Hard Drive Is Not Detected On Boot Up Half The Time
So i bought one of those new 2tb wd hard drives, and when i start my computer the drive is generally not recognized in the bios the first time. The bios hangs at the sata port the drive is in for ~20 seconds then says none. Once i reset my pc once or twice the drive shows up like normal, with no issues. Other than this the drive works perfectly. I'm a bit skeptical of these drives since my first two attempts were doa; is this the sign of a faulty drive or does anyone have ideas as to the cause? I have of course checked the cables.

Pc Wont Boot, Fans Spin Up For A Brief Time Then Quit
I'm hoping someone might have some thoughts on what to do. My system wont boot. I hit the power button, and then the psu, cpu, chipset, and case fans spin up, but a second after spinning up the fans stop and the boot ends. The led power light on the motherboard stays illuminated the whole time. If i unplug the psu or turn the power switch off and then back on then i can press the power button and get the same brief spin up. If i hold down the power button for 10 seconds and then press the power button it will then perform this brief spin up. If i dont do any of these things i can keep pressing the power button and nothing happens. I've unplugged all the drives and nothing changes. I pulled the cmos batter and verified good amps from it. Prior to this boot issue i had some problems with a new (feb 2008) wd caviar drive i was using to store media (not the os drive). Windows reported it as having too many disk errors so it dropped it from sata 3. 0 to 1. 5. Also it had a few ntfs errors that required running checkdisk. And i had some bsods. After one crash on restart bios reported a smart error. I ran wds drive tools on the drive and it reported no errors with the drive and the drive worked fine after that error. Also, my system disk access on both os and media drive have seemed to degraded recently. This is alot of info but i'm hoping it might be of help in diagnosing the problem. My thoughts are motherboard or psu. I think i should get a new psu and see if that works. If that doesn't work i figured i'd replace the motherboard. But i found out that socket 939 is dead. That being the case if it is not the psu i'd build a new pc but have also considered at the same time fixing this pc as a backup (i'm really hurting business wise not having my pc). I dont want to spend alot money if i have to fix this rig and dont need sizzling performance. Any recommendations on a new, relatively inexpensive mobo, cpu, and memory setup to replace my existing components? Again, i'd also be building a new pc for higher performance but i would want decent performance. And i should add i'm not a gamer. I'm a programmer using my pc to run lots of apps, programming and graphic design software .

Computer Freezes On Boot - Long Time To Load Windows
I was having issues with a game of mine hard locking my pc. The only way to get out of it was to hold down the power button and force the pc to power down, then boot back up. Trying to trouble shoot the game, this happened several times. Then, it started freezing on the memory test. It's not really freezing, though - if i leave it sit for a very long time ( 5 to ten minutes ), it will eventually boot into windows. Any ideas?

Lcd Monitor 4ms And 8ms Response Time
This is my first time buying an lcd monitor. I need help with choosing what's the best for me. I'm looking for a 17" monitor, with 4ms - 8ms response time, and i need it for games, movies, and also to be comfortable in reading texts. (I know it's not about the response time only, but i mean that i need one these two ranges only)
I found two 17" lcd samsung monitors, one with 4ms response time and the other 8ms, of course with other good specifications exchange for a fair price:
The 730bf and 730b . And there's also the l1732tq by lg. The questions is: is there any difference between 4ms and 8ms? 2nd, what is the recommended contrast ratio for me? The difference between the lg and samsung is that the lg has 1400:1 contrast ratio, though the samsung has 700/600:1. What are the specifications that i need to consider before buying an lcd and how much do they need to be? Are those good monitors for me? If yes, which is the best? If not, please gimme some more offers. Those monitors' prices are about 335-380 usd (in my country), so this is my budget.

Dual Monitor - Watch A Movie And Play Game At Same Time
I was wondering if there was any way for me to be able to play a full screen game like counterstrike source, and watch a movie with an s-video plug on my tv at the same time. I tried it and when the game loads on my main monitor while the movie is running on my tv, the movie re-adjusts itself and doesn't fit onto the tv correctly (a part of the video is cut off). Am i doing something wrong, or is it not even possible to do this?
System specs are:
Athlon xp 3200+
1gb pc 3200 ram
Radeon 9800 pro video card.

Computer Switches Off
My system, a p4 via 823x motherboard with a 128 memory, 20gb hard disk and a 2. 4ghz intel celeron processor has had a problem just shutting down without any prompt. I changed the power supply to a known working one and no difference it made. Changed the cpu fun still did not make any change. I also removed the hardisk and no change. I resit the cpu but it made no difference. No pci or agp cards in. The motherboard and processor is just seven months old. Sometimes it would work for sometime like a whole day and no problem but it can just decide to switch off as often a every 20min.

Business Network Switches
I need to add some network switches to our network. I need
1x 48 port 4xsfp switch in our main comms
4 x 48 port 2x sfp at our 4 cabinets located around the factory. Each cabinet switch will be connected to the comms room via existing fibre optic links. Ideally i want the switch to be
-Stackable
-Vlan capable
-Qos
-Layer 3
-Poe capable
Cisco switches are most likely too expensive for the job and i'm concerned i could do better than netgear ones (reports of failed units and lost vlan settings). Can anyone advise on above? Either equipment you've had experience of or switches in that medium small business price range that might be worth investigating?

Keyboard Constantly Switches Off
My keyboard constantly switches off during loading. Until a main os is loaded it won't respond once it has gone beyond the whole del to enter the setup area. This means that i can't choose which os is loaded or abort disk checking when i load windows. I have a microsoft natural ergonomic keyboard 4000 v1. 0. Sometimes the lights stay on, but it is unresponsive.

From Time To Time Computer Freezes
I need help diagnosing what i believe is a hardware problem, since it happens with windows and linux. From time to time my computer freezes. I cannot move the mouse pointer and there is no reaction when i press a key on the keyboard. There is no bluescreen or any other error message. Also, it is not predicatble when the computer freezes. Sometimes i can work for hours without any problems and sometimes it freezes after 5 minutes. Generally, i noticed that it freezes earlier when i use windows instead of linux. Any idea what could be the problem or what i could do to diagnose it?

I need help diagnosing what i believe is a hardware problem, since it happens with windows and linux. From time to time my computer freezes. I cannot move the mouse pointer and there is no reaction when i press a key on the keyboard. There is no bluescreen or any other error message. Also, it is not predicatble when the computer freezes. Sometimes i can work for hours without any problems and sometimes it freezes after 5 minutes. Generally, i noticed that it freezes earlier when i use windows instead of linux. Any idea what could be the problem or what i could do to diagnose it?

Kvm Switches And Usb Wireless Mouse / Keyboard
I recently bought an iotech kvm switch that has usb connectors. I intended to use my wireless mouse and keyboard setup, which only uses a usb wand to control both. Turns out iotech doesnt support wireless devices. While it does work, it occasionally causes a 'fatal' exception and crashes xp. So . This is obviously not workable. I was hoping someone had run into this before and could let me know how they got around the problem? Is there anyone here who is currently using a kvm switch that supports wireless usb devices?

Are There Any Decent Dvi / Usb / Audio Kvm Switches?
I tried looking up some, but many of them had problems. 1. Sometimes there was cross-interferance, mouse movements would appear in audio, etc. 2. Some of them don't support 1080p video. 3. And finally, some just plain don't work at all, or break down after a few weeks. Another problem was that the price nearly blind-sighted me, many of them were in the $200 range! I was looking ot spend under $100, since vga kvms were so much cheaper. Anyway, does anybody know of a good dvi/usb kvm (preferably one with audio too) that doesn't cost a fortune?

No Complete Boot, No Beep, Or Monitor Signal
The symptoms for my pc are as follows:
1. Pc receives power (as indicated by fan and powersupply light)
2. Pc does not output signal to monitor (verified functioning monitor and cable). 3. Analog, laser-mouse does not receive power consistently from pc. Laser-light turns on for a fraction of a second upon connecting the mouse to the pc, but then remains off after the mouse is firmly fixed into analog mouse-port. 4. Usb, laser-mouse does receive power from pc when plugged into usb port. 5. Pc does not make any beeping sounds whatsoever upon attempted boot. My request: please advise as to what troubleshooting methods i could use. Do these clues provide any insight into what may be wrong with the pc already?

4850 - Monitor Goes To Standby After Winxp Boot
I'm having a strange issue with the 4850: after windows xp is done booting, just before the login screen, the monitor goes into standby, however i can boot find in safe-mode. This only occurs after installing amd drivers for the card. When i uninstall the drivers via safe-mode, it works fine. I've tried display driver version 9. 5, 9. 4 , and a couple of 8. X's. No help. This issue just started for some reason. Intel 7200 on gigabyte p43 , 2 gigs ram and visiontek 4850 on windows xp sp3

Message: Reboot & Select Boot Device Or Insert Boot Media
I built my first computer about 2 weeks ago but have noticed a problem. When i turn the computer on it shows the motherboard screen and stays there for approx 15-20 seconds. Then it goes into a black screen stating that i need to "reboot & select proper boot device or insert boot media in selected boot device and press a key. "
I am a bit confused on what this means. If i restart the computer while it shows the message it starts up with no problems. What can i do to have this message no appear as i power on my computer? Also during the shift from one screen to another, the screen blinks in green and other colors. What can this be? Can it be that i have my lcd tv connected to my computer with a dvi to hdmi cable?Besides these issues, everything seems to run great, no overheating at all.

Windows Boot Error - Unmountable Boot Volume
I have had my new system up and running for about 5 weeks now with now problems. So today i was on my computer and all of a sudden it freezes. Nothing is responding so i just reset the power. Once i reset the power i get to the logon screen, i logon and then i get a blue screen saying windows has detected a problem and has been shut down to prevent any damage to your computer the under it, it says, unmountable_boot_volume. So i thought my grphix card might have overheated so i try rebooting again about several times with no luck. I try booting with safe mode but still freezes. After about 2 hrs i come back and nothing has changed. Any 1 know any solutions?

Can't Boot With Cd Rom / Fix Boot.ini
I have a toshiba satelite laptop with windows xp on it. While copying files over the network onto it i got the blue screen with white letters. I had to do a "hard shut down" to turn it off. When i tried to turn it back on it would start to boot and as it begins to load i get the option to boot in normal or safe mode (both give the same result). After the windows xp logo shows i get another screen that says invalid boot.ini, i searched the error on google and i found this: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/330184
Ok great! I have the cd i put it in the drive, but it won't boot on the cd, also i tried pressing f everything, delete, esc yadah to get into the bios to make sure its set to boot up on a cd before the hard drive. But nothing seems to work. Does anyone know something else i might be able to try to get the boot.ini reset / uncorrupt or get it to boot up by the cd?
