Does anyone know if someone makes an accessory that plugs into a usb port to display things like cpu%, memory used%, gpu/cpu temperatures, clock, etc? I have an old logitech g15 that will show me a clock or the cpu% and memory used %, but i want to replace it with a natural style kb. If i can get something like that, then i wouldn't have any more need for the g15, plus i'd have extra functionality. I bet these things could sell for ~$150 if they had a color screen and perhaps interacted with games, like the logitech products do. B&w, with the temperature monitoring, i'd pay $80.

System Failure, Monitor Does Not Show Anything

I returned from vacation. Turned computer on, fans came on, green light came on, i could hear the hard drive spin up and sound normal, but that's it. No beep, no yellow light, the monitor doesn't think anything is running, the keyboard is dead, num lock won't illuminate, optical mouse is out. Can anyone give me an idea? I'm not very computer literate ( as i'm sure you're aware after reading the earlier part of my post) the computer is a 3 year old hp.

Boot System From Usb

I am trying to boot from my usb flash drive. I followed the instructions step for step that are in the article on this website. I downloaded the hp program and the usb image zip file. I ran the hp flash program and pointed it to the folder where i unzipped the usb image files to. I then copied all the files over to the usb memory stick as instructed. When i restart my computer and press f12 to go to the boot menu i have 3 options: sata hard drive, cd-rom drive, or usb device. So i choose usb device and when it reads the usb memory stick all i get is the error "non-system disk, replace and hit any key" its like the usb memory is missing some system files or it doesnt have the master boot record or something. I want to flash the bios in a new video card and i have to boot to dos and i dont have a floppy drive and i have win xp so a usb boot is probably the best option i have.

System Reboot When Plugged Into Usb

My system (winxp pro sp1) is rebooting out of nowhere when i have something (printer - hp 6110 all-in-one) plugged into either of the two usb ports on the back of the computer. If i have nothing plugged in, the system is stable. Any ideas of what to check? Seems like a conflict but i can't figure out what it is.

System Crashes On Attempt To Install Usb Ports

I'm having an issue with a motherboard/usb installation. Each time windows boots up and the system attempts to find and install my usb ports, just after roughly about 10-15 secs the system crashes, and the screen goes black (pc still running). This happens everytime the installation begins, shortly after the "windows has found a new hardware" pops-up. Isolation - so far to isolate possible causes, i've tried booting the machine in safe mode, but to no avail - the problem persists. Also, i've gone as far to disable the usb ports from the bios menu, thus allowing the machine to boot and run successfully - but that doesn't fix the problem, it only isolates it.

Usb Drive Won't Mount On Either Pc Or Mac After System Crash

I had my usb drive (40 gb) connected to my pc and i was copying a movie off it to my local drive. Half way through my system crashes and i'm forced to do the three-finger-salute and end task everything before restarting my computer. Usb Cause Monitor To Go Black

Sometimes, when i plug a usb device into my front usb ports on my case, it will cause my monitor to just go black. The blue power light will stay on, but the screen will just stay black until i reboot. Turning the monitor on and off seems to do nothing. Another interesting point about this is that the usb plug doesn't even need to be fully plugged in to make the monitor go black. All that it needs is for the metal to touch anywhere near the usb port to cause the monitor to go black. My second issue is not really that big of an issue, but still an annoyance. When there is a usb device plugged into my computer during boot-up (normally a wd external hdd), it will usually (if not always) cause the boot-up process to freeze on the motherboard display screen (i can't recall if this is before or after post, but somewhere in this time frame). So i just get stuck looking a big gigabyte n-series screen infinitely until i remove the usb device and try rebooting again. Any tips or suggestions to either of these problems is welcomed.

Usb Switch To Connect A Monitor With Two Pc's

I have a samsung 930b lcd has dvi and vga selectability and i was wondering if anyone knew of a usb switch i would like to run 1 kb and monitor from 2 pc's but i can hook the monitor up to both without any issues. But i dont really want to have to swap my usb kb/mouse all the time its only 1 usb plug but id love to find somethin i could do from the desktop hotkey or even some sort of usb switch i could switch remotely without going behind the pc, anyone know of such a device.

Input Stutter Caused By Monitor Usb Hub

I've been playing crysis warhead and left4dead. I have a dell 24" with built-in card reader and usb hub. I hooked the monitor usb to system usb so that i could just plugin my keyboard and mouse into it instead of the system underneath my desk. I have an apple keyboard and a razer deathadder mouse. While playing crysis, everything is fine, smooth as butter, no problems. But, in left4dead, i started noticing that my input (kb/mouse) would start to lag/stutter after playing for about 15-20 mins. Nothing else would stutter, fps never dipped, game itself never lagged. I would just get input lag/stutter for about a second. Then it would return to normal (if i moved the mouse during the stutter, the crosshair would jump to where it was supposed to be). I initially thought it may be overheating, or perhaps an unstable overclock, but it made no sense as crysis was working just fine. Then i thought it may have been a bad hdd, but i ran several test and everything was fine. I came to the conclusion that it could be the monitor's usb hub. So, i plugged the kb/mouse directly into the system, and now everything appears to be fine. No lag, no stutter. The weirdest thing about this is that the latest time that it happened, my audio also started to lag and stutter, and eventually the game crapped out. All is well now, but why would this happen as a result of a usb hub, and why in only one game? I don't understand. Anyone care to shed some light?

Difference In Transfer Rate From Usb To Usb And Hdd To Usb

I have an seagate 160gb external hdd (fat32), and i was wondering if moving the page file to the external disk would garner any extra performance gains. I was also wondering if there is a difference in the transer rate from the usb->usb and hdd->usb. I was thinking about using hdtach on my external drive, so i think i'll give that a try.

Usb Speed - Same Transfer Rate From Usb 2.0 And Usb 1.1

I have a usb2 1gb thumbdrive. I have 4 usb2. 0 ports on the back of my computer and 2 usb1. 1 ports on the front of my computer. When i plug my thumbdrive into the front or back i get the same transfer rate. Now i'm sure that's not suppose to happen. In my device manager i have, under universal serial bus controllers, intel(r) 82801eb usb universal host controller, have 4 of those, then i have one of, intel(r) 82801eb usb2 enchanced host controller. Any suggestions? I have xppro sp2.

Replacing Dell Laptop Monitor With Sony Vaio Monitor

Can replace my dell laptop monitor with my spare sony viao monitor? My viao mother board is broken so wanted to use the monitor to replace the rather dull blurry one that came with my dell inspiron. Is there an automated way to disable the second attached monitor whenever the first monitor goes into full-screen mode with an ati video card (hd 4870)? I have a few games that don't like my second monitor being attached and this would be better than having to always disable my second monitor.

System Keeps Restarting

My system keeps restarting i beleive it is to do with the memory as i have ran memtest and it found 12 errors on the ram. The system is also crashing alot. I have turned automatic resart on crash off and now i just get the blue screen of death.computer specifications:

2800+ xp
256mb ram
Fx5600

System Turns Itself On

Alright, i've got a weird question and i'm sure the answer is right in front of me. Sometimes when i turn my system off (for bed, or peace and quiet, or whatever), it will turn itself on after a seemingly random amount of time. Would this be a software/hardware issue, or possible a flaky power issue (i doubt this, as it does it in my dorm, but also our house which is new - so the electrical system should be solid)? Any suggestions would be appreciated.

System Does Not Post

Yesterday i disconnect all peripheral cables to work on another desktop. Today, when i reconnect everything(monitor, mouse, cat5, keyboard), the system would not post. It boots, the fans spin, the hard drive spins up, the psu fans are going. When the computer comes on(display comes up), it freezes. This assumption is based on the fact that it does not post(no devices list), i cannot enter bios and i have to hold the power button down for ~5 seconds instead of instantly for it to power off. :Edit: there are no system beeps at all. I disconnected the cd-rom with no change. I disconnected the hdd with no change. I interchanged the two sticks of ddr ram with no change. I tried a single stick in each of the two different colored dimm slots. I took the agp video card out and it still took 5 seconds to power off. Note: there is no onboard video. :Edit2: i took the heatsink off, cleaned out all the dust, cleaned all the thermal compound and appliked as5 and reinstalled the chip. No change.

System With Xp Crashes

I've noticed that the crashes occur mostly (lately it seems only) the first time i boot the system on a daily basis. It starts windows xp without problems, but give it 15 minutes or so. Sometimes much less, sometimes a lot longer. And *poof* blackscreen and reboots. I deactivated the "reboot on system crash" option in windows xp to get some sort of blue screen. It gave me one of those 0x0000000 stop errors, but the error i got didn't give me any reasonable results with google. Tons of errors that "looked" like it, but not the same code. The blue screen made some "suggestions" which brought me to the memory and the video card. "Maybe it's this. Maybe it's not"; nothing conclusive in the blue screen. Tried to access adress; page fault kinda error. But the tests gave me pass as result! What tests?

Is Ground Necessary For A System ?

I do not have an available case right now and i do not plan on buying one no matter how cheap it is because im just gonna keep it this way for a couple months before i make it into a server for a network. Then when i make it into a server, it'll be modded. For now, im not too worried about the future of this case but as of now, its gonna be caseless inside a wooden desk and would have a cardboard fixture holding the motherboard, cards, hdd, and cd drive

This desk has an outlet thats the closest to it but it doesnt have ground. The next closest outlet that has ground would be all the way on the other side of the room. Do i need to ground this computer?. This is pretty much just inside a drawer-like compartment of my table and everythings either wood or cardboard inside so i dont think anything will short. Is it still important to have ground?. I understand grounding a chassis to prevent getting electrocuted but theres no chassis and no one would be touching this computer except me and when i do, chances are, its gonna be off

Everything works, i already tested this as a system in another room so i know theres no stray wires sending hot power to the psu chassis or something

So yea, thats my situation. Is ground really necessary as of now?. This is a computer that no one would touch for a few months. The monitor has a plastic chassis so minimal chances of getting electrocuted touching the monitor. What do you guys think?. In a situation like this, what is there that needs to be grounded?. Or am i good without ground?. I dont wanna pull an extension to the nearest grounded outlet because that one already has a computer on it and i dont want an overload or anything.

Ups For System

I want to pick up a ups for my system. There's a apc bx-800 ups on sale at a nearby store, it says it's rated for 540 watts / 800 va. Will it be sufficient for my system? See sig for details, but basically 3 hard drives, a dvd burner, 21 inch monitor, x800xt vid card, p4 2. 4c eating up power off a 550w power supply. I don't really care about how much time i can run without any power, it doesn't take very long to shut down cleanly. I just want to make sure that the ups won't be underpowering things connected to it.

System Fried

I disconnected my system to replace some fans and connect some on a top panel. I have a zalman fan controller and it had been working perfectly fine with all the fans. All fans were working except 1 top fan, so i turned off the system, unplugged it and connected it to the mobo. I turned on the system, and there was some kind of sound, i cant recall off hand how it sounded, but i smelt something burning or burnt, so i quickly unplugged the system from the wall. I took off the fan from mobo, tried to boot, and system would flash for 1/2 second and nothing. So i then took out the psu to see if it was ok, i didnt even smell anything burnt from it at all. I cant believe plugging a fan to the mobo would fry it, if thats what happened. Opinions please. Fried mobo? I looked for burn traces on the front of the mobo, but didnt notice anything out of the ordinary, unless its on the backside?

Help With Hp System Recovery

I recently had an issue with one of my hard drives in raid 0, so i had to order recovery discs from hp and reinstall the operating system. I just finished running the discs, and everything seemed to have completed successfully. After finishing, it instructed me to reboot the computer. When it loaded back up, it didn't boot windows, just opened a blue hp screen, opened command prompt and started running some codes. After this, it went to a plain yellow screen and shows two little folders with files going across. This screen has been up for about an hour, and i'm starting to get worried. Should i just wait it out? Could a bad hard drive have caused the raid failure, then somehow survived the recovery and is now causing issues? If that's the case how do i know which hard drive is bad?

I bought this a few days ago upgrading from my old **** athlon 3200+. I was expecting to be able to play like gta4 and all the good games but for some reason most of the games im playing is lagging badly even on low settings. Gta4 is the worst even all set on low it lags really bad, cant even drive the car. And most of all the other games i play is like when i move the mouse say left or right it will do it . 5 secs after, like a late reaction. Thats in games like far cry 2, bf bad company 2, bioshock 2. What is the problem? I thought this system would be good. Is there something wrong with it?

Usb Works With Keyboard And Mouse But Won't Read Usb Stick

Hello guys, i've this problem since some time. My keyboard and mouse work properly but the system seems to fail in reading usb sticks. They do appear in my computer but when i access them it either says " f: is not accessible. Impossible to satisfy your demand because of peripheral error e/s ", or, it allows me to enter it but there are no files listed. The stick works ok in other machines and there are files on it. It also takes a long time for the system to see the stick. I did have some viruses but now the comp is clean as i ran all the programs suggested in networking&security section of this forum. Help!

Usb External Hard Drive Front Panel Usb Connection Problem

I have a usb connection external hard drive. It works perfectly and is detected in computer one.computer 2 and 3 starts to detect it but stops and says there it might have problems working perfectly. And no drive letter shows in computer 2 & 3. But computer 1 reads it shows it. All 3 computers have win xp pro and all 3 computers detect and show all other usb devices with no problems. This issue here is with the front panel usb connection on all cases. Not the back. Anyone here have a solution?

It's a 2. 5 travelstar hitachi ide hard drive in an enclosure case.

External Usb Drive Message Says, It Can Perform Faster On A Usb 2.0 Port

When i hook it up, it recognizes, then says it can perform faster on a usb 2. 0 port then goes away, and repeats this process over and over. I can never actually access it or see it in my computer. I also constantly hear the noise of a usb device being turned on and off.
