Windows Xp Loads In 30 Minutes

I wait and wait but the os (windows xp sp2) won't load. I am forced to shut down (by pressing down the cpu button for a few seconds) and the funny thing is that after 30 minutes or so, the os loads as if nothing is wrong with my computer !

Windows Loads On Friend's Machine, Not Mine
I have 2 hard drives, one for the os and program files, and one for everything else. I decided to reformat/reinstall windows on my master drive, the os one. I took it out of my machine, plugged it into my friend's, and installed windows xp pro on it. Then i rebooted and his computer recognized it right away and i had no problems booting up windows on his machine. So i move the harddrive to my machine, plug it in as the master, even take out my other drive, and when i boot it up, i get a message similar to:
Please select correct device or
Insert bootable media
It just won't load windows. I thought it might be the bios so i went in and reset all the defaults, then even put the hard drive in front of the floppy in boot order. What's going on. I'm working on a job from home and i need this working asap. Help would be highly appreciated.

When Xp Loads Screen Goes Black
I turned my laptop on last night to find the display totally corrupted (even during boot-up). There were no warning signs or prior system changes, it just broke. Whenever it boots now, it does one of a few things; - screen is corrupt from the start, as xp loads screen goes black, system sits there with a black screen. - Screen is corrupt from the start, as xp loads screen goes black, system reboots itself, lather rinse repeat. - Screen is fine on boot, xp loads fine, but x minutes into the session the screen corrupts and freezes (could just be the screen or could be the whole laptop, i can't tell)
What i really want is someone to pat me on the head and say that it'll sort itself out and that i don't need to replace a £1000 laptop, but i'm thinking either the motherboard or gfx card has gone. Can anyone help me figure out what has caused this and where (if possible) i can get the spares to fix it.

Slow Program Loads
I recently acquired an ast bravo 6233 running windows me os - a used business computer that was surveyed when they upgraded & bareboned. 32 mb ram, but according to specs has a 384 ram capacity. Added a second floppy with your help - no problem. But -
Removed original 32 mb dimm ram stick & added (2) 128 sdram sticks to banks 1 & 2 - supposedly compatible and as recommended. (Manual states that 2 x 128 sticks reaches ram capacity - don't understand that) so left bank3 empty as recommended. Before i added memory, the thing flew when in a program but loading programs was like runnung backwards. Since adding memory, startup message still states 32 mb ram. Startup and loading programs = no change; switching between programs still sloooowwww.Can find nowhere that the added memory is recognized nor acknowledged. Works no different with original 32 mb stick in bank1 or bank3 with or without added sticks. Have changed nothing else. It starts up ok but windows loads slowly. Question - how can i speed this thing starting up and loading programs ?
How can i find that i even added the memory ?
Help - please - am planning to change os to windows xp but don't want to do that until speed problem solved.

Computer Keeps Freezing Once The Desktop Loads
I had an old piii that i took out of the closet and hooked up to my son's big tv so he could play games, however it keeps freezing once the desktop loads. I tried last known good configuration, then i did a windows/repair twice and did a full format twice and once windows is full loaded it reboots and that is where it freezes. I though reformatting took care of everything? Any suggestions?

Usb Keyboard And Mouse Work In Bios But Not After Xp Loads
Usb keyboard and mouse work in bios; but once xp pro loads, they're no go, why? The red optical light on the mouse turns off and the keyboard doesn't work. How come? The usb ports are fine, since both work in the bios. Is there something missing from xp drivers?

5870 / Bfbc2 Loads Into Grey Screen Between Rounds
Between rounds in bfbc2 my card will flicker and then load into a grey screen. I can see all 2d aspects of the game, but all 3d terrain is just a flat gray screen. I have tried 10. 2 and 10. 1 with the latest 10. 1 hotfix. I can usually play the first few rounds without any issues, then about the 3rd or 4th round it will start. Sometimes alt-tabbing and then loading the game back in will resolve the issue, but that only works 3 or 4 times before i have to completely exit and reload the game. Anyone else having similar issues? I can still rma the card for a replacement via newegg, i'm wondering if i should. Temps look good, i have dx9 forced and my load times are actually quite good. When this card is playing it looks great, but the constant loading into a gray screen and artifacting have got to be addressed

Pc Is Freezing 3 Minutes After Booting
My pc is freezing 3 minutes after booting it. I just replaced the power suppy i found that the fan died-out! Could it be the processor or the hd? The processor is a p4 and the hd is only a 20gb. This computer worked flawless for more than 6 years. How can i check whats wrong with it? I dont think i have any spyware or a virus i have checked everywhere.

My rig has some very odd bootup problems. After it boots and starts, it will freeze after 1-10 minutes (in winxp) and i have to restart it and then it will run fine for hours or days. Does anybody know what could be the problem?

Computer Keeps Shutting Off After Few Minutes
My computer was working fine yesterday, all day, and now i can't have it on for more than 10 minutes without it randomly shutting down. It's not a problem with the wall socket because my monitor stays on the whole time, so i figure it's a problem with the tower. Here's what i've done since last night:
1. Put the side panel back on. 2. Moved it to my dorm room. I haven't checked for any loose connections, but that could be it. I figure either one/some of the connections is just barely hanging in, or one of the parts is overheating. That could be because either a heatsink misaligned in transit to my dorm or the side panel is cutting off ventilation.

Other times, the computer will freeze and, if i'm playing music, my speakers will emit a grinding noise, and i will have to manually turn it off. This usually happens between 1 and 3 times before the computer will turn on and be stable. Has anyone had a similiar problem? Any suggestions? I returned it to the store i bought it at and they were unable to fix it. I'm running a 1. 15 amd athlon with 256 mb ram.

Mouse Buttons Non Functional After 5 Or 10 Minutes
This past couple of days i've been reformatting and re-installing windows and tweaking my partition sizes. However, yesterday evening, after finishing loading up windows xp and in the middle of loading my programs my mouse buttons just stopped working for no apparent reason. The cursor movement works just fine but the buttons are non responsive. I reformated and reinstalled windows again this morning thinking everything will be fine but low and behold during my program load up the buttons packed up again after about 5 or 10 minutes. Any ideas?

Yesterday i formatted my pc, so i could add a smaller system drive, and then use 3 ide hdd's and 1 dvd-rw. Heres the setup i did:
Primary ide master - system drive
Primary ide slave - applications drive (empty)
Secondary ide master - docs drive (half full/half empty, up2u)
Secondary ide slave - dvd-rw
First boot from format, everything seemed snappy and fast, no problems. I started installing a few drivers, for nothing major, other than the nvidia hardware firewall on my dfi lanparty mb, and the basic mb drivers. Upon a required reboot, the machine now takes an immense 15 minutes to boot.

Computer Takes 6, 7 Minutes To Open
My monitor that came with my win98 dell computer, takes now about 6 or 7 minutes to open. I upgraded to winxp, it now takes about about 4 or 5 minutes. Someone suggested to test and find out if it's the monitor or the computer. I borrowed a laptop but didn't know how to do it. A kind person suggested the following:
"Right click on the screen, choose properties/settings/advanced, look for your graphic card or video card then you should see the 2 icons for the 2 monitors. Switch over to the main monitor from there by clicking on the monitor icon at the rear of the two and dragging it to the front. " I followed the above but didn't see any "graphic card or video card" so i'm stuck now.

I'd been having a problem with crashing to blue screen and getting the error of "irql is not less or equal to" for about a year. Now for the past 3 days my computer has started completely freezing either as soon as my desktop shows or 10-15min after startup. The only major change i've done is adding a second hard drive last weekend. But as stated, i didn't start having this problem till about 3 days ago, so i'm pretty sure it isn't the additional hard drive i added. Any help is appreciated. At this point i'm thinking that my only option is to just reformat.

Why does my internet disconnect and reconnect every few minutes? I use wireless internet for my pc, and when i use the internet, it works fine for 3-5 minutes then after that, it just disconnects. I already switched my wireless channel and nothing seems to help.

Compaq Presario 2700us Shuts Down After Ten Minutes

Has anyone had an issue with the wireless mouse (microsoft intellipoint) which has a hub plugged into the usb port does not respond for the first 10-15 minutes after logging on? I use an ibm thinkpad, it's been doing this for about a month. The wireless keyboard works immediately, but the wireless mouse takes time.

After cleaning up my hard drive yesterday, my keyboard would not work in vista ultimate 64bit. I tried 2 other keyboards. Neither of which would work either. 2 were ps2 keyboards and one was usb. Now, each keyboard was identified at post and would work in the bios. Now here is the really weird part. I decided i would go ahead and do a fresh intall of vista, as i was about due for it anyway. Just in case. I also cleared cmos just in case i somehow change something in the bios that was causing this (though i doubt it since the keyboard worked in bios). So, i reinstalled vista, and was able to use the keyboard to put in the activation key. So, i thought i was all set. However, once windows fully booted, none of the keyboards would work again. How is it possible that this problem carried over to a fresh install?

I start up teh computer put windows xp disc in and it just keeps installing the files nessecary; when it reboots it goes back to this and asks to format then install. Its starting to really *** me off and i have no clue what i am doin wrong, does it have something to do with the ide boot settings?

Windows Os Hangs
My system hangs whenever i leave it idle for a few minutes. But not so every time. I've observed that this happens on both windows 2000 and windows xp ( though i've never seen this happen on my linux installation - maybe 'cos i'm using it less these days ). The mouse pointer doesn't move and keybord doesn't work and display gets still when that happens. The only option i get to use is to restart my system.

Three Monitors On Windows 7
What's the best way to finagle having three monitors on windows 7? I'm currently running a gtx260 on a ga-ep45-ud3p. Assuming that i need a second video card, how is gaming performance affected? Does the other gpu just take over when i drag a window between displays? What are the concerns?

Windows Xp Not Booting
A few days ago i turned my win xp computer on and it wouldn't boot. I tried booting to the last known good config. It showed me the blue screen that talks about a hardware problem. It said boot-sector not mountable. I wanted to make sure that my data was intact so i booted up using a linux live cd. I made sure i can read a few files from that hard-drive (formated as ntfs). Linux read the files fine. I tried the win recovery console and did a 'dir' command. It said 'directory enumeration failed. '
I wanted to see what the diskpart command in the recover console would say. For file-system, it came up blank. I installed win xp on a new hard drive with the original hard drive as a slave. Windows saw the hard drive but when i clicked it to view the files, it would sit for about 60 seconds and never open the drive. Right clicking on the drive and choosing properties would not show the properties page. Also, using 'cmd' from the new windows install and typing 'd:' told me: data error (cyclical redundancy check). Would anyone have a clue what could be the problem and more importantly, how can i fix it? Could i possibly have a virus?

Cannot Connect From Windows 7 To Xp
Now my problem is i have laptop win7 and desktop winxp r. When i go to networks on both wxp & w7 i can see my laptop and desktop. I can access files from xp but when i click xp from w7 it pops up a "enter network password" "enter your password to connect to xp (my xp computer name)" gives two input boxes for username and password, below it says "domain: laptop (my laptop computer name), a check box to "remember my credentials" and an error message "log on failure: unknown user name or bad password".

I have two monitors going for the first time and my question is on the secondary monitor. Should there be a windows task bar? More importantly, can there be a windows task bar?

Is this as good as it gets? Or can i actually give the second monitor commands to grab a website like cnet and the other monitor grab a website like cookinglight? Again i am not all that knowledgeable on computer software. So i have vista prem at the moment, i am looking to download windows 7. So here is the thing i have been watching all these videos of folks moving all there files to an external hd before they install, however when i upgraded from windows vista basic to premier i did not have to do a thing, i did not even need to erase the old version it was like the new vista prem just over-writed the old basic, also all my files there fine no need to move anything. So with windows7 what is the deal, do i just download it and it will do it's thing, i guess my question is this. 1. Will i need to move all my files, if so will i need to move absolutely everything like "program files" "sw set up" "users" pictures, music. Like everything. 2. Will i need to erase vista prem from my hd to free up the space, or will windows 7 just overwrite vista.

Lightscribe Windows 7
Okay, so i'm looking to put a cover on a cd that i burned using lightscreibe (i know cover isn't the right word but bear with me). When i go into the start menu under all programs there is the 'lightscribe direct disk labeling' folder, and inside that are 'getting started' 'label print' 'lightscribe control panel' 'lightscribe website' and 'quick demo'. The control panel doesn't help, the website just has patterns, and the demo doesn't explain my problem. On the 'getting started' thing, it says "to get started insert media label side down into the drive then click start->all programs->lightscribe direct disc labeling->lightscribe template labeler" but i don't have a 'lightscribe template labeler' option. I tried the 'label print' option, but that's only for paper. So what is it? My computer came with lightscribe (a. K. A. It's lightscribe capable) and i'm assuming that i have the software since all of the stuff listed above is in my start menu. Not that the problem is with the disks, but my disks are lightscribe cd's from memorex (got 'em at office depot). So, if someone could give me guidance as to how to proceed that would be great. P. S.
