Hdd Not Found On Boot = Disk Error

I recently received a western digital 160gb, as a replacement for a broken western digital 120gb, from western digital. However on boot the hdd is sometimes not found and instead a little clicking noise can be heard, which in turn leads to the primary slave not being found and then a disk error. Usually if i simply turn it off then back on again, then it works fine however sometimes i have to do this multiple times, sometimes i have to turn it off and leave it for a few minutes and sometimes i have to open the case and push all the cables into the back of the hdd and dvdrw a bit more. To me the cables don't feel as though they've come loose and so really this is an exercise of ritual rather than anything constructive, yet it seems to do the job. Once the hdd is recognised the pc works fine and dandy but i'd like to avoid this failure as it is happening more and more. Is this an issue with the cpu, data cables, power cables, hdd, dvdrw, ram?
My system is an asus pundit w/ intel 2. 8ghz, dual 512mb ram, western digital 160gb, sony 8x dvdrw.

Computer Problems - Double Boot Up, Double Post, Disk Error

The problems i am experiencing are having a boot disk error, a double boot up (double post) almost as if its not successful trying to boot up. Also. My bios seems to be changing when i boot up, under boot sequence it wont even show the hard drive is there at times, and changes other boot options. Does anyone possibly know what this problem could be? I have tried replacing the cmos battery, but this does not solve anything.

Not Found Any [active Partition] In Hdd

At boot, i get the following, verifying dmi pool data . Not found any [active partition] in hdd

I'm guessing this is not a particular problem, but, how does one partition such a device. ? I see an empty bay at the front of the device. Is it just adding a floppy, and then using a partitioning tool like partitionmagic/qtparted etc. ?

Disk Boot Failure. Insert System Disk And Press Enter

Just built my first pc and configured the bios etc and get the following message:

Boot from atapi cd-rom
Disk boot failure. Insert system disk and press enter. I think this means that i have to insert a boot disk for the cd-rom drive into the floppy disk drive, to install the drivers for it. Can someone confirm this? Also my cd drive is a philips 52x32x52 cd-rw which came with no floppy disks for installation at all, so i am not sure how i can setup the cd drive without an operating system etc.

Disk Boot Failure, Insert System Disk And Press Enter

I'm just usng my computer as a normal computer user would use one's computer. Surfing the web, instant messaging programs and the like, then my main harddrive makes a low click sound, then a slightly higher click sound after about half a second, then windows stops responding, then less than a second after my system achieves full lockup. So i'm like, ok, that's weird, and i reboot. I boot into bios and make sure it's not set to turn off the harddrives for any reason, and when i see that it isn't and there are no other wonky settings, i boot windows (xp pro sp2 .net) into safemode and just to make sure, start a virus scan, while that's working i look and make sure drive indexing is turned off (it isnf't on the main drive, so i turn it off) and that power save things are set to always on, and that's all ok, so while i'm waiting for the virus scan to finish, it does the click thing again, locks up, so i'm like *** and i reboot again, this time it gets to the ascii loading bar before the animated startup screen before the login prompt, and it does the click thing and stops, so i reboot again, and this time it gets to "verifying dmi pool data. " After detecting the drives and whatnot, does the click thing and stops right there, then after a minute or so i see "disk boot failure, insert system disk and press enter". So i sit there getting madder by the second and press enter, then it gives me a blank screen and that message again, and that's where it sits right now as i type this (but once i post i'll turn it off)

So i was running a virus scan, avg free edition, and it scanned the registry and the mbr for viruses and didn't find any, so i dunno, this either is a virus that i don't have a definition for, or some random progressive hardware failure, or my computer decided to crap out on me randomly.

Insert System Disk And Press Enter, Disk Boot Failure

Looking for suggestions for what to do next. I've built my first from scratch computer using:

New
Gigabyte ga-8i915p duo-a motherboard
P4 630 3ghz 800mhz fsb 2mb l2 cache processor
Maxtor 200gb eide ultra ata/133 hard drive
2x crucial 1gb ddrii 533 memory sticks

From my old system
Cd/rw
Dvd rom

It seems to post ok, but i then get the message

"Disk boot failure, insert system disk and press enter"

I've tried the new copy of windows xp bought for this build, and also the disks that came with the board and the hard drive. Each time the same message comes up. I've searched through all the documentation that came with everything, the net, and some books, nothing i try works. Can anybody help please?

Wd Caviar Green Error Found

Windows wouldn't boot and won't even let me repair it on my 500gb wd caviar green hd because the partition was corrupted. Everything ran fine after i reformatted and did a clean install of windows xp. I scanned the hd with hdtune 3. 5 and it found one block error 50 secs in. I let it run all the way through and there was only that one block error at the beginning about 2gb in. I got a 1tb wd caviar black drive thinking i would need to send in the 500gb drive for repair/replacement. I scanned for errors again with hdtune on the 500gb drive after reformatting and still found the error at the same block position. I used the 7 pass erase feature on hdtune to wipe the 500gb drive clean and did an error scan. I was amazed when there was no error found. I ran another scan and the damaged block was no longer there. Can i still send the drive in for rma?

Xp Does Not Boot From Hard Disk

I have bought a new hdd (ata), with jumper on master. I did installed xp professional sp2 (genuine licensed) once, this morning, everything was ok. After installing xp, i have booted from hdd without problems and even i did some small disaplay changes (resolution, colors, things like that), but i have installed nothing else). I've closed the os, closed the pc and went out for about 1 hour. When coming back the system refused to boot again from hdd. As i had nothing else installed on hdd except the xp, i decided to boot from cd, format again the partition and reinstall the xp. Surprise: the hdd is visible (bios sees it), is to be formated, xp files are copied on the c: partition as normal, no errors, but when first time the installing program needs to re-boot, it can not re-boot from hdd, and keeps booting from cd again and again. Any ideas?

Emachine - No Boot Disk

I've been working on this old emachine for a woman down the street and i finally got it running but it's acting a bit strange. She called me up today and said it tells her she has "no boot disk". Now, i know i was just there and had windows xp boot up. So i go there, turn it on. And boot up normally. So i make sure everything else is working. I turned it off and on a few times, everything was normal. I left and an hour later she calls me back. "It's a black screen that says "no boot disk" on it". She says she didn't turn it of/restart or anything. I'm trying to get a handle on what's wrong here. I can't get a handle on it because i'm never there when something goes wrong. It's a 3100+ sempron with 256 mb ram and a 100gb ide hdd. Integrated sound, network, and graphics (chrome s3 i think). Any ideas? Is it possible that her psu is shutting down and resetting her boot settings? I'm sure the hard drive has a recovery partition (but that should also be bootable). Maybe her psu and the motherboard batter are both hosed. I don't know anymore lol. Any ideas are appreciated.

Found New Hardware Wizard Detects Camera, But No Driver Found

I had the quickcam messenger webcam working just fine on my pc. Then the hard disk died, so i reinstalled the same os (windows xp pro) on a new hard disk. To install the quickcam messenger again, i downloaded and ran the current logitech installer (lws110.exe) from logitech.com. Only this time it failed. I've tried multiple times, carefully uninstalling the logitech driver and software each time and rebooting. I also tried the installer disc for the quckcam chat (which i also own), with the same result (plugging in the quickcam messenger). The installer gets to "step 4 of 4" (camera setup), without a hitch. "Congratulations "the installation and setup is complete! "Plug the device at any time to complete the installation and use your new quickcam"

At that point, i plug in the quickcam messenger, and windows xp detects it, as indicated by the bubble that appears above the task bar: "found new hardware camera"

Anyway, after displaying that bubble window, xp runs it own "found new hardware wizard". Whether i click cancel on the wizard, or run it (it fails to find the driver), or let it just sit there for 20 minutes, logitech's own installer never detects the camera. And the driver apparently never gets installed. I searched the logitech disc for a . Inf file that i could point the wizard to, but could not find anything that worked. I've checked for motherboard driver updates, but find nothing for any usb problem (and the usb port appears to be working just fine with everything else, anyway). I installed xp sp3, but that doesn't help either.

Hdd Clicking On Boot Up

Use Usb As A Dos Boot Disk

Is there any way to make this work? I can get it to boot from it, but the only commands i can get to work are fdisk and format. It keeps searching for files on my a: drive. Is there a way to modify the .ini files so i can create a fully functional boot disk? I'm trying to completely eliminate the need for a floppy drive. Also, is there a way to make a bootdisk that can format with all the popular file systems such as ntfs or linux file system?

Hdd Wont Boot From Disc

Summary of the rambling below:

1. Old hard drive failed, tried to replace it. 2. When i turn on the comp it shows cd rom on primary slave, and hard drive on secondary slave. Is this a problem or wrong?
3. The jumper on the cd rom is set to cable select. 4. Boot sequence in bios is set up to start from cdrom then c. 5.comp won't boot from disc, never gives option "push any key to boot from disc"

I have used this disc to install xp on my other comp and worked fine. And when i unplug the power from the hard drive, it gives the option boot from disc and goes into windows set up. The manager who i bought the hard drive from suggested maybe my cd rom isn't compatible with this newer hard drive?

Rambling begins: hello a couple days ago my hard drive failed in my old pentium 3 comp and yesterday i went out and bought a hard drive from a well known computer store. It's just a semi-used 40 gig hard drive, the manager working there told me he tested it just a day ago and that it had a fresh install of windows xp so he told me it was working. So today i tried installing it in my old pent 3, and it shows up when i start up the comp, it shows the cdrom on ide primary slave and shows the hard drive on ide secondary slave. Is there anything wrong with this? I was told that the hard drive has to be on it's own separate ide cable or at least on the "end" of the ide cable correct? Did i mess up already? The hard drive doesn't have a "key" on it for the correct jumper setting. So i just moved it 4 times until it finally showed up. And should the cd roms jumper be set to cable select, or master? Or slave? Right now it's on cable select and it's showing up as ide primary slave. Anyways, the windows xp disc is in the drive, and i have set it in the bios to boot from cdrom then c drive, but it never gives the option "push any key to boot from disc".

Computer Wont Boot Hdd

I am working with two computers. My friend's is an emachine d4362 (basic specs: p4 3. 0 ghz processor, 3. 2 gigs of ram)

And mine is a soyo dragon. (Basic specs: p4 3. 0 ghz processor, 1 gig of ram)

The emachine had windows xp installed on its hard drive (ide hard drive) and it ran perfectly fine. We wanted to install windows 7 on it, so we put in the disk. It always froze at 16%. So we put the hard drive into my computer, and loaded ran the installer. It again froze at 16%. Another method i had learned of was to install from a usb drive. I did that, but his computer wouldn't boot from usb. Mine, however, did. So we put the emachine's hard drive into my computer, and booted from usb. We successfully installed windows 7. Here is the interesting part. On my computer (the dragon) windows will boot normally, and go to the windows 7 desktop without a problem. When we moved the hard drive back into his computer (the emachine) before it even gets to the "starting windows" logo, the computer automatically restarts. So the moment the hard drive is being accessed it just shuts off and tries booting again. I dont understand. Why will it work on my computer and not his? (Remember, this hard drive was originally in his computer to begin with, we only switched it over because his computer wouldnt boot from usb)

Boot Up From Usb Floppy Disk Drive

So i need a floppy drive. I do not have a power dongle, the small one on my antec neopower 480 for a floppy drive. Someone at microcenter told me that there are power dongle converters for floppys. But i was wondering, since i need to install my sata drivers off an a: drive when i boot from my xp c. D. Will a usb floppy drive could act exactly the same as an internal one? Can i boot up from a usb floppy disk drive?

Floppy Drive Disk Boot Failure

Just built my own computer, and i cant install an os because the computer doesnt seem to find the floppy drive. I have connected the floppy drive to the motherboard with a 34-pin connecter, and i have the twisted end plugged to the floppy drive, and the long end to the mb. I noticed that one pin on the floppy drive (the second from the side) is missing.could that be the problem or should it be like that?

When i start the computer it says after counting the memory and all that, "verifying dmi pool data. Disk boot failure, insert system disk and press enter".

Pc Wont Boot With Disk Drive Plugged In

Ok so recently ive been having issues with my optical (cd/dvd) drive. First it wouldn't boot with any disk in it, even if it wasn't a boot-able disk. I figured that out just by taking the disc out. Simple right?

Now my pc will boot past bios and display the post message but will not go into the operating system. I changed my boot order to do hard drive first and it still did the same thing. So i had a hunch and unplugged the power cable to my disk drive (ribbon cable is still attached) and it booted fine. Does this mean my disk drive is going out? Or is it maybe just that plug on my power supply?
