Horizontal Screen Tearing
Replies: 2 | Post Date: 02-12-2010, 02:57 PM | User: Wrxdrunkie | Forums: hardforum.comI have my 5850 crossfire setup displaying to 2 monitors. My samsung 23 inch 2048x1152 and my samsung 1080p tv. When i have both displays on, say i am watching a divx movie on one screen and web surfing on the other, i get a crapload of horizontal screen tearing, if the movie is playing it is worse, if the movie is paused it is not as bad. Does anyone else experience issues like this? If i only use one display it will not have the problem. My computer monitor is hooked up via dvi and my tv via hdmi. Ideas?

Screen Tearing
So i believe the problem with my counterstrike source and world of warcraft is screen tearing. (What is happening is the graphics are not smooth, there are missing graphics all over the stage, sometimes the graphics are stretched etc). I have an asus n7600 gs and my monitor is an lcd viewsonic va702b model.

5870 Screen Tearing
I recently purchased a sapphire branded ati 5870, as i was replacing a geforce card (and because it was about time anyway) i decided to format before installing the card. I installed win 7 ultimate x64, installed the drivers and began experiencing odd screen tearing. Figuring this was a win 7 issue, i formatted again. This time installing vista ultimate x64, installed latest drivers and the screen tearing happened again!
This persisted during gaming, on the desktop and regular apps (word, ie, etc). After disabling the a. I. Feature the tearing stopped occuring during gaming. But tearing on desktop, ie, etc still remains, i don't want to blame this on drivers as if i do waiting till they fix them will most likely take me past being able to rma the card. Any suggestions?
(I know the psu is not great, had one go bad needed a fast replacement. Although if you read this review http://www.Hardwaresecrets.com/article/556 it is more then capable of pausing 700+w so i figure that may not be causing this). Any help is greatly appreciated.

Horizontal And Vertical Lines On Screen
The other day out of nowhere my screen starts going nuts. It has a bunch of horizontal and vertical lines on the screen and they kind of move when the mouse is over them. When i open a new window, for example an aim window or notepad, parts of the program will display fine, without any lines, and other parts will continue the line pattern on the screen. When my computer starts up, it has weird gray images that almost look like japanese letters on the windows xp splash screen. I checked a different monitor and the picture is still weird, so it isn't monitor, so im guessing its video card. ? Anyone ever heard of a problem like this?

1950x Pro Tearing Screen
This started after about 1 month of using the video card - games started crashing after screen tearing/blinking. I've tried all the latest drivers all time - now the v8. 6 too, absolutely useless, crashes during the first few seconds of a game/movie. The driver which was included in the video card box worked good for a while, no display problems, but started crashing without being able to recover. Then i installed microsoft drivers and they seem to be doing best, but still, games/movies crash a lot.constant screen tearing, various textures appear out of nowhere, etc. Any idea on why is this happening and is it possible to fix without buying a new card?
There's a 2gb of ddr3 ram on 800mhz speed in my system, also a 2x 2. 4ghz 64bit amd athlon processor, and an asus m2a-mvp motherboard. The video card is radeon 1950x pro 256 and i have a power supply of 400w. P. S. I wouldn't think the problem is overheating, because a few test i ran displayed 55-62 degrees by celsius, never more.

Hp Pavilion N5472 Laptop Screen With Horizontal Line
Anyway about a week ago, my hp pavilion n5472 laptop developed a horizontal line approx a quarter down the screen, and it just wont shift. Changes colour when i visit a website with colours, for example if the site is white, the line becomes green, if the site is black the line turns grey. Is there anything i can do to get rid of this line? When i try to 'mouse over' the line, it appears that the mouse goes under the line. If that helps to describe it :confused also is it likely that the line is an actual physical fault with the machine, or something to do with drivers and such.

Screen Ripping / Tearing During 5770 Overclock Or Underclock
Installed my new xfx 5770 today on my xp 32 machine with catalyst 10. 2 drivers, dual monitors. http://www.Directcanada.com/products/?Sku=15180bd6108&vpn=hd577aznfc&manufacture=xfx
Ran 3dmark06, everything was fine, 12. 2k with my e4400 @ 2. 8ghz. Tried to overclock the 5770 by 5mhz using ati overdrive utility. Passed the test, also no sudden fps drops while running ati tool, also 3dmark06 ran well. However, whenever i opened a new window, or small animations occured such as on msi afterburner when you scroll over the graphs, it causes a screen rip/tear. It also happens intermittently. This happens when i try to underclock the card too at 800mhz, at 845mhz, and when i run both of my monitors at 60hz or 75hz. This also happens during the loading screen of 3dmark06 and the cpu tests, but not the graphics tests. I was able to run 3dmark06 with the gpu at 960mhz and got a higher score. Is this a driver problem? Does my card need to run at 850mhz exactly? Did i get the pickiest card ever?

Horizontal Lines All Over A Monitor
My friend is having a problem with jagged, horizontal lines covering his monitor. This obviously sounds like a video card issue and he fixed it for the time being by removing his graphics card and is running through onboard support at the moment. Does this mean his graphics card is fried/ruined or is it reparable?
We were trying to figure out why this happened to his 8800gt since it was purchased in the last year. I asked him what his power supply wattage was and it turns out he was running a amd x2 4800+ and a 8800gt system on only 300w. So i'd assume the psu is the culprit. Is it not uncommon for inadequate power supplies to make video cards or other components fail like his did? Also i don't know if this has anything to do with anything, but he mentioned his heatsink fan dislodged from its sockets for a period of time. His cpu is fine though and suffered no damage. I'd like to make sure he gets this fixed because we spend a lot of time playing online games together. Do you think he'll need a new graphics card and psu? Hopefully the gfx card warranty is still valid if this is the case.

Computer Displays Post Screen Then Went To Black Screen
My computer has been running sluggish for about two days now. Was searching the web the other day and computer just came to a halt and froze. So i rebooted the computer and then it wouldn't start up. It displays the post screen but after that it went to a black screen with a white bar at the bottom of the screen. Looked like a progress bar. Rebooted again but same thing. Popped in the os disc and tried a check desk and fdisk and it came up with some errors. Got to stage 4 of 5 on them and then stopped at 50% for hours. So today i started it up again and it finally booted to the windows logo and then finally to desktop. Took around 30mins to do so. Hard drive light indicator is always on for the most part and takes forever to load applications. Okay, i guess my question is this about to be a hard drive failure? Never had one so clueless of what it is but would think it would have something to do with the hard drive. Also before it froze the other day, applications started being really slow. For example it took 10mins just for the save file dialog box to pop up to save a file.

When i connect my macbook pro 2. 66 nvidia geforce 9600m gt to lgtv screen via mini displayport to vga cable i get half of the screen appears, i tried to play around with the options but nothing works. It seems like the 9400m graphic card reads the tv not the 9600m.

If Disconnect Laptop Screen, Will External Screen Still Work ?
If i disconnect my laptop's screen, will an external screen still work? I have an acer aspire5315 laptop. What i am doing is i am putting it into a custom case that will not fit the built-on screen. The laptop does have a vga output (so i can connect it to another monitor, or hdtv. ) So, if i disconnect the laptop screen completely from the motherboard, will an external one connected via vga still work?

Pc Goes To Xp Load Screen Then Into Blue Screen
I have a laptop that when it boots it goes to the xp load screen for about 2 seconds and then a blue screen of love. I ran a linux boot disk to try to trouble shoot it but we couldn't get it to see the drive. I bought a sata 2. 5 drive enclosure and hooked it up to my other computer with the laptop drive in it and it can't see it. The drive gets warm but thats all. I pulled my other laptop drive out and put it into the drive enclosure and it worked fine. What can i do? What options do i have to see if this is still a good drive? Does this mean the drive is dead? Do i need to load drivers? Can i force mount it? Any thoughts?

My key says 'print screen sys rq'. Does this imply that it will print, should i attempt to take a screen shot? And if you need to know, it's by acer or something along those lines.

Artifacting All Over The Screen
I'm stupid i ran my rig on a crappy 350w powersupply dell gave me, after around 22-23 months it started crapping out on me. It wouldnt display monitor when i booted, after around 6-10 tries it would run fine, but i would blue screen once or twice a 24 hour cycle. I figured something was wrong with the powersupply and it wasnt up to the task. Now it boots, but after i get past the windows xp pro loading screen and i get to what should be my desktop i get artifacing all over the screen like black horizontal bars across the screen, which seems like a video card crap out, also its not reading my two dvd rom drives, which could just be cause a connection got loose or it could be cause the mobo is f-ed up. So what does it sound like, i realize i need a new power supply so ill buy that, but is my 6800gt fried too, or is that a mobo problem?

Cant Get Into Pc, Only To Login Screen
I got winxp installed last night on the family pc. I set up an "admin" and "family" accounts. The family is "restricted" while admin is not. I wanted to try to disable installation of software on the family account so they cannot mett it up with trash but while doing so i somehow messed everything up. I was using "administrative tools", "local security policy" and added "local policies" because i thought thats how i could disable installation. Im an idiot. Everytime i boot up now i can enter the password (at xp "welcome" login) for either of the accounts but it only flashes the screen and takes me back to the login. I cant get anywhere! Is there a way to get rid of this somehow?

No Screen Output
My system won't output to my monitor. At first i thought my video card is dead so i placed the vga card into my other computer, and of course it didn't work. However, when i placed a working vga into the troubled system, it still didn't output anything to my monitor. Any suggestions of what components might be in trouble? I can't remember the mb, but its abit supports up to 800mhz cpu (p iii), sdram 133mhz etc.

Screen Problem
I just built a computer and the screen does not work. I plugged everything in including the monitor but it just stays black. No screen pops up. I purchased these through newegg. I made sure the video card was connected with the power. The power switch on the back is on. I connected the front panel switch properly cause i tried them all. The fans are spinning (cpu fan) and the fans that came with the case. I tried both ports for the monitor on the back and i used an old computer and the monitor works fine. Im using a corsair 450w. What is the paper-clip trick? I don't have any ddr2 memory. My friend suggested it might be my monitor. I tried connecting the monitor to a laptop but it doesn't work but i'm still unsure which part is wrong. I tried the monitor on an older computer as well but it works fine.

No Picture On Screen
I haven't made any changes to my hardware, it is as below. Recently when i boot-up i don't get a picture on screen, even though the pc is running - the d bracket 2 on the back of the pc shows the top right led as green, and the other 3 are red. I have checked on the msi site and it says the following for this combo of lights:
Memory detection test - testing on-board memory size. The d-led will hang if the memory module is damaged or not installed properly. I have fiddled with the memory and it seems to be installed properly - is there anything else i should check? I cant afford to upgrade just yet, need to wait maybe at least another 5 or 6 months - anyone have any clues as to what i can do to check for other issues?

I haven't made any changes to my hardware, it is as below. Recently when i boot-up i don't get a picture on screen, even though the pc is running - the d bracket 2 on the back of the pc shows the top right led as green, and the other 3 are red. I have checked on the msi site and it says the following for this combo of lights:
Memory detection test - testing on-board memory size. The d-led will hang if the memory module is damaged or not installed properly. Nothing Appears On Screen
So my friend dropped off a rig from around 2005 that he said died and he wasn't about to fix. After this thread working out the 20 to 24 pin power issue, flogge so nicely mailed me a 20-24 pin adapter. I plugged it in and pressed the power button. After some beeps (the kind that you might hear on a perfectly functional system), everything received power and i heard some hard drive activity. The problem was that nothing appeared on screen. A little too comfortable with this system already, i opened the case while it was on and put some pressure on my 6600gt. Nothing. So i turn it off, take out the card, and carefully reset it. Reset being a relative term, as his back panel has been more or less mutilated, and i had to bend away the metal dividers to get it to seat in the first place. The second time, it seemed as though all the pins were in the pci-e slot, but still nothing on screen. I turned it off and tried pushing in the card a little more, and this is when i freaked out. Stupidly, i was putting pressure on the heatsink, and i felt the thermal contact break. In a hurry i got a pair of pliers and took off the heatsink, i hadn't crushed the die. When i get home i'm going to reset the heatsink with some arctic silver, i really hope i haven't ruined my faithful 66gt. In any case, or i should say, in any other case, i think this hardware would work. My current plan is to run the mobo next to the case like a testbed, to see if i can push the video card in all the way. I also need to acquire a pci video card to see if the slot is dead. I also have the feeling that i should look up beep codes for this mobo, but they really do sound pretty normal. What does [h] think about this situation?

Screen Flicker
I just got a brand new asus m6b00n laptop with 15. 4" wxga screen. When plugged in to ac power, there is an intermittent flicker on the screen. It happens infrequently, and it is very slight. I worry that there may be a problem with the inverter or backlight. But i wonder if it may simply be related to the quality of ac power. (I am not running it through a ups or line conditioner. )
Is it possible for a laptop display to be sensitive to the ac power source, causing the screen to flicker? Or is there a good chance that i simply have a defective laptop? I am hesitant to send it back because the problem is so intermittent, they may never see it.

Vibrating Screen
I have an older ibm netvista, in which i changed the factory default tnt2 video card to a geforce2. The problem is that the harder the cpu works, the quicker the screen is vibrating. At full cpu load, my screen looks as if it would have 60 hz refresh rate. Anybody know how to fix this problem?
I have tried out an other geforce2 card, but the screen was total black after boot, and the boot also stoped. (That was a working card, i use it in other computer. ) What can be the difference between two same card?

Keep Getting Blue Screen
I have just built a new p. C, it is an amd athlon 3700+ 64 bit processor, 1gig of ddr ram an ati radeon x550 256mb gamers edition video card and an 80gig hdd (i'll be putting another 80gig on soon). The motherboard is an asus a8n-e. The problem i'm having is it keeps going to a blue screen at any time it feels like it and i get the following msg stop 0x0000008e (0xc0000005, 0xbfbc73df, 0xa8b83940, 0x00000000) atiduag.dll address bfbc73df base @ bfac7000 datestamp 4420c719. It also tells me that i should try a bios update or change my adapter or update the drivers. I wrote to ati, they said to uninstall all ati stuff from the p. C restart, turn the antivirus off and install the newest driver. I have done this but still get the same msg. I have yet to update the bios as i'm not sure what i'm doing in that area. I gather the problem is with the file atiduag.dll but i'm not sure what to do about it. I also wanted to go in, in safemode but don't know what buttons to push to get into safe mode. Del gets me into setup and f8 gets me into the boot setup. I'm still not sure if it's a video card prob or a motherboard prob, but i do know it needs fixing. If anyone has any ideas, could they please help me out as i'm getting rather frustrated. I'm also not using the catalyst control center at the moment.

What Are Screen Graphics ?
What we call screen graphics is also called a myriad of different names. Interactive motion graphics, 24 frame playback, computer effects, computer playback and a bunch more of them. But i still get the question regularly of what exactly is it. What we call screen graphics is also called a myriad of different names. Generally i use the matrix example the most. "You know how that guy that has the screens with code dribbling down it and then he types some stuff and touches of few monitors that surround him and then the dudes inside the matrix get downloaded programs straight in to their heads? Well we make all those screens work. "

Pc Screen Go So Dark
Why did my pc screen go so dark i can barely see? It is a new computer (a month) and has been working fine. One day the screen goes white like seeing through a fog. I restarted it and saw the logo screen perfectly, but not my desktop or anything else- it is so dark i can barely see! I set it on the highest brightness. I have gone through buying 2 more monitors, nothing. I tried f8, etc. Have you had this problem? Can you help?

Unstable Screen
My dell monitor has begun acting a bit strange lately. It occasionally changes its width automatically, popping back and forth from a 100% width to probably a 95% width (is doing it a bit right now). Although i can still use the monitor while it does this, it is very annoying. Sometimes it will go for an hour or two without doing it. I checked to be sure that the monitor cable was secure at both ends. It is.
