Why Does The Internet Freeze ?
Replies: 4 | Post Date: 1 month ago | User: Paddy | Forums: answers.yahoo.comI am using a 3gb vodafone dongle which i have used on another laptop with no problems. Just on this computer the internet is always freezing which is annoying. Can anyone please tell me if this can be fixed as i don't know is there something wrong with the dongle or the modem of the computer. If anyone has any ideas on how to fix this i would really appreciate it.

Internet Explorer Doesn't Connect To Internet
My internet explorer doesn't connect to internet?
Answer:- nowhere near enough information to give any meaningful suggestions beyond, "have you tried turning it off and on again?" Try it with both computer and modem/router. Other information you could've included would be:
Do other browsers work on the same computer? Operating system? Ie version? Has this always happened, or is it something that's just started happening?

Usb 2.0 Cause Pc Freeze
I just bought a usb2. 0 pci card because i only had usb1. 0 in my pc. My mother board fully supports usb 2. 0 as i check on the manual! I installed the card in the pci slot and the drivers but as i hooked up my pen drive the pc freezed. I rebooted , all is fine until i hook up another usb device this time my blue tooth dongle. Tried a differrent pendrive and the same thing happened! I tried removing the card and drivers and reinstalling but the same thing happened! Im running windows xp pro sp2 with all the latest updates!
The strange thing is here! Im running another version of windows xp pro sp2 on the same machine. I booted on this version, installed the card and drivers and it worked fine! All the devices i plugged where found automatically and worked fine!
Whats wrong with my xp version that the usb 2. 0 is not working with ?

Pc Will Work For A Little While Then It Freeze
Trying to fix and old pc with about 512mb of ram. I removed all pci cards and the only card in use is an agp 8mb vga. Windows xp home edition. Pc will work for a little while and then it will freeze. Sometimes it freezes @ the welcome screen, or the video signal goes missing, other times, it will make a horrible noise (kind of like a modem dialing) and then it freezes or loses video signal. I installed xp pro to a different partition and different hd and the same problem occurs. Replaced psu, hd, ram, vga, and removed all pci cards, floppy, cd-roms. Cleaned cpu and re-applyed cpu thermal paste.cooler runs "cool" to the touch, same thing. Weird thing is that the computer will allow me to install windows, which takes @ least 1 hour in this system, but it will crash when trying to run for the first time, @ the welcome screen, or a bit later after loading. With the old installation (hd), i cannot even make it to the welcome screen anymore. It just dies there and reboots again!

Overclock Freeze My Pc
I have overclocked my cpu. It is sitting stable at 2. 6ghz but once in a while my pc will freeze. I have to hold the power button to restart(not good) it only happens about once a week maybe. All my temps are fine. I know my psu is my weak link. But having just bought a new gfx card and ram, i cant afford a new one yet it just baffles me that it only freezes once in a while. I have also checked event viewer for errors.

Computer Will Freeze Up
So i just recently built my new computer and i have this weird issue. It doesn't happen all the time, but every once in a while the computer will freeze up, the monitors will refresh, and then the background will be black and my mouse will move extremely slow. Every time i have to reboot before everything will be fine. My boot time is about 45 seconds to a minute. Is that average? Os running win 7 64 bit

Amd 2.2 Ghz Pc Freeze
I have an amd pc with 2. 2 ghz speed( reported by windows as 1. 1ghz ), 256mb ddr sdram. The system unexpectedly freezes for some reason i cannot understand. The freezing is not specifically associated with an application. It happened under different circumstances every time. The os is windows xp professional. Does anyone have any idea of what might be causing this problem?

Keyboard / Mouse Freeze On Xp
The mouse always works until you try to type something, and then the keyboard and mouse quit working. The computer itself is not frozen. Sometimes the computer has to be restarted 5+ times to get it to work right. Do you think it is an issue with the keyboard, or the ps/2 ports? I could not find a virus. It has a cheap lite-on keyboard and roswill mouse.

Low Voltage Cause Pc Freeze
My pc started freezing. It's brand new, about 6 months old, 400 watt power supply, asus motherboard, amd athlon xp 2400+ cpu, ati all-in-wonder 8500 dv gfx card, and here's the problem. Using the asus probe which can measure voltage, it says that my 12v is below the threshold and is going down to about low as 10v. In addition my pc freezes. I run a dual boot and this only happens in server 2003, but not xp professional. I tried doing a complete reinstall of 2003 today and it still does it. What can i do?

Vista Lockup / Freeze
Well i got another issue this time its with vista it basically freezes i cant move the mouse hdd led shows no activity nothing responds even if i leave it for a while nothing i have to reset it or power it down through the power button. Im currently doing a memory test to see if its the ram but i tested the ram before and it was fine. The issue started happening about 2 weeks ago before that everything was stable no bsods nothing i havent flashed my mobo bios as it was running fine, i thought it might of been the ati drivers 9. 5 because the issue started around the date they were released when i reformatted i used 9. 5 and the issue came up early in the install(so i thought it must be the driver as thats the only new driver i used and i had no other applications etc installed) then i reformatted again with 9. 4 it stopped freezing for a good while until after sp2 was installed the freezing started happening again. Heres the strange bit i noticed it happens when i open certain apps utorrent or the steam server browser thats when it 8 times out of 10 happens i have no clue what it is. My guess is its my memory or harddisk but i think its possibly the video card because whenever the issue occured after restarting the pc in the login screen my monitor wont display anything i know its the log in screen because i hear the sound effect and if i type my pw i can see the g15 apps load on the g15 keyboard screen (i resolved this using vga instead of dvi but it shouldn't happen in the first place). Ohh yeah everything is running at stock speeds.

Steps On Troubleshooting A Freeze Pc
Ok, i'm a decently experiences computer user. But i just need some advice on the most efficient way on troubleshooting a computer freeze. Ok, what i noticed is that my computer seemes to freeze and lock up, mostly in games. The thing is that my computer used to run 100%, i then moved my computer oversees, packed it as well as i could. Now it seems to lock up in games etc. I think it will also lock in prime95. But when it locks it usually just freezes on the screen like if i'm in a game, or sometimes my computer will reset. So i have no idea what could be causing this problem. It is one of those problems that happen not so often, but probably like once a day, if i'm lucky i can go a full day without the freeze. So this makes it more annoying to pinpoint fast. So my question is can someone list the most efficient way of trouble shooting this problem? I don't have replaceable parts. Like an extra video card etc to really start swapping! But i'd like to pinpoint the problem. So please if someone can give me some tips on trying to best isolate the problem. I don't have my system overclocked anymore.

Games Freeze All The Time
. And they do that since graphics card update. First, there was the radeon x600. It died. So i needed a new card. Was a radeon hd 2600. Installed new drivers, even reinstalled windows. Games began to freeze after a couple minutes, the only game playable was rollercoaster tycoon 2. Some time later i bought a radeon hd 3850. And again, reinstalled windows and added the latest drivers. And again! No game playable. They all work fine for about ten minutes, and then freeze. It can not be the temps as they don't go over 90 degrees, wich, according to ati ccc, is in normal range. It can not be the psu either, since its rather new and powerful enough. So what else could it be?
I thought about the mainboard, a msi ms-7046, quite some years old.could it be that it doesn't "like" the new graphics card, since its an oem-mainboard? Or that it simply is too old? Or what the fudge else.

Freeze And Reboot Problems
I wanted to see if maybe some of you could help me find the source of my computer issues. Ill make the story short, i ran into some problems with old hardware and ended up buying a new hd, mobo and cpu. Its a pentium 4 3. 0 on an msi 865gmv3-v board and a wd 120gb hd. Its nothing special, just as a less pricey solution for now. Everything is running fine with a clean xp home install, but when i play music and mostly when i play graphic intensive games it freezes up momentarily then reboots itself. No blue screen, no errors when i reboot, nothing obvious to tell me what did it. I have the latest drivers for video and audio, updated bios, ran full antivirus and spyware scans with pc-cillin 2007, ran a memory test with windows memory diagnostic program, checked for any relevant errors in event veiwer (no errors correspong to the reboot times), run norton's disk-doctor and windoctor. I also have pc alert 4 and checked the temps and voltages when i start playing games- it gets up to about 25 degrees c at high load and 15-20 with no load. After all this im at a loss what to do next. Are there some other tests you guys can suggest to help me isolate this problem? Any help would be awesome.

Pc Freeze After Booting Into Windows
My pc keeps freezing when i turn it on just 2-3min after booting into windows. This happens w/ xp and my 1wk old fresh install of 7. Last night on the fist boot into 7 i surfed the net for about 10 min and then pc just froze. Turned it on a second time and ran nba2k9 for 20-30 min was able to put it in sleep mode but i know there's a 95% chance it'll freeze coming out of sleep mode. Just like every other time the last 6 days. Looked at my mobo last night everything looked pretty good, so maybe the hard drive?

Computer Beep Then Freeze
My friends computer is acting weird. He says this happens on the net more than anything. He'll be surfing and then the computer gives out a single beep and then freezes. He has to shut it down and reboot and then its fine for awhile. But usually happens again in a hour or so. He's on dial-up if that makes a difference.could it be overheating? Some feedback would be appreciated. He says it happens mostly on the net but has happened during normal use.

Mouse Suddenly Freeze
It's been almost a week that i'm having this weird problem. All of a sudden, i can't get *any* mouse to work. It seems to work fine when i boot up, but it's just a matter of time till it stops responding!
The first time the problem showed up with my regular ps2 mouse. I was browsing some site and the mouse suddenly froze. After a while it comes back, the cursor goes berserk for a few seconds, and from then on no response. It just wouldn't work. The whole system seemed to work fine though. I restarted, and the mouse was dead right from the start. Luckily enough, i remembered i had another one somewhere, a newer usb optical mouse. (Ms intellimouse optical with a cable) so, i swap mice using usb this time, boot up, the mouse works fine for a couple of minutes and suddenly "dies on me" too! The red light under the mouse disappears too. If i restart, sometimes it will work (but -again- only for a minute or two) but usually it doesn't even flash its light as it's supposed to do when it's being initialized. If i shut down and switch on, it always works in the start, but it's just a matter of time till it stops responding again. The problem is very weird because it happens with 2 different mice on two different kinds of ports (ps2 and usb), so this leaves no room for the chance that either one of the ports, or any of the mice, is broken! Other devices work great on the very same usb ports where the mouse hangs!
Sometimes when it stops working i get a notification from windows that a usb device has malfunctioned and is no more recognisable. No matter what, the mouse disappears from the hardware list. Of course i've tried uninstalling the mouse and let the windows reinstall it, and updated the drivers but it's no good. The problem persists. I've also noticed that it stops working only if you're moving it around. If you don't touch it at all, it seems ok. The red light works, it will point, it will click. But after a short while it dies again - as if some buffer overruns or something. Furthermore, if you were holding down one of its buttons when it hangs, windows is tricked into believing it's still down, and won't even allow certain keyboard keys to work too! I hate this when it happens!
I wrote a dos-based program that calls the actual hardware interrupt to access the mouse directly, it seems to initialize successfully, displays the pointer but it's dead again as usual. However it's not in real dos environment, (it's only xp's console mode dos) so i don't know if this is actually mapped to the windows driver instead. Sorry if this was long, but i'm really frustrated; i can hardly use my computer. I've tried virtually *everything*. I want to avoid a format because the problem looks so weird, that i'm not quite sure if it's going to help. I found a few threads describing similar problems, but no solution was found in any of them. My hardware is an intel p4 at 2. 4ghz on an asus p4pe m/b, running xp pro sp2, 512mb ddr in one bank. I've never had any hardware conflicts whatsoever and i haven't installed any new hardware lately. Doublechecked for viruses/spyware etc, nothing suspicious. All i can think of is my power supply box (350w, got it a month ago) but mice generally require minimum power, i don't see how it could be an issue. I also downloaded a freeware program that monitors voltages/temperatures and stuff, and it all looks perfectly regular. No weird spikes in the graphs when the mouse hangs or anything. Anyone got any idea?

Pc Freeze When Insert Cd Into Drive
My cd drive was not working when ever i insert the cd it blinks and my pc was getting freezes until i remove the disk. So i though it is gone as it is 3yrs old. Tossed my old cd writer and bought a new dvd writer but this too showing same behavior then i changed the ide cable and connected to secondary and i tried all the ways nothing seems to work. And i also tried to read cd at boot up thinking there may be a problem in my xp but its not working at boot up also. It just blinks and shows sign of reading but nothing happens.

Pc Loose Video Signal, Seems To Freeze
I have a desktop pc (compaq presario) that it is just loosing the video signal and the pc seems to freezes. What is happening is that sometimes the display goes black but all the fans and lights are still on. The hdd seems to be stopped, so i think that the whole pc is frozen. The big problem is that this doesn't happen always, just whenever it wants and its really hard yo hunt. Any idea of how can i start to pinpoint this issue?

Pc Freeze, When Unplug Usb 2.0 Devices
I just bought a usb2. 0 pci card because i only had usb1. 0 in my pc. My mother board fully supports usb 2. 0 as i check on the manual! I installed the card in the pci slot and the drivers but as i unplug my pen drive the pc freezed !
Whats can be wrong with my xp version that the usb 2. 0 is not working with ?

Beeping And Freezing - Pc Beeps Then Freeze
My pc just started beeping, and the screen froze and i had to reboot. Then after that even when im doing nothing on the pc just on webpages its beeping and freezing for a split second, even when i boot up the pc it beeps, and takes its time rebooting. Then just before i was on the pc, on a webpage, and a blue screen appeared for a second cant remmember what it said, and then the pc restarted. But last night i was on css for 2 hours streight and there was no beeping or restarts?
But even before this incident, my pc has been randomly restarting while playing games only, so i therefore put a house fan at the side of my pc case, with all the sides off, and this seemed to work. But now with this beeping even when i put the fan at the side its makeing no difference at all. Can anyone help. (Don't say try other ram or another processor or another graphics card to see if thats the problem, because the fact is i don't have any spare parts for my pc, and i don't wish to buy any parts for my pc to see if thats corects the problem. Also when its beeping i restart my pc and go into the bios to check temps and my cpu temp was on 49c and my mb temp was on 28c. Also i have downloaded this program called motherboard monitor, and in the corner it says 35 37 27.computer specifications:
Amd 3200+
1. 5 gig of them 512x3
Radeon 9800 pro 128mb
120hd
400 watt power supply.

Pc Desktop Freeze And Hangs On Boot Up
Some time back, the computer started to hang on boot. After pressing the power button, the hard drive / "busy" light would simply stay lit and nothing would happen (no booting, no signal to monitor, etc. But the cpu fan would spin). To get it to boot, i simply have to keep turning it on and off till i get that 'click' noise just after turning it on. Sometimes, the pc randomly freezes when i'm in windows also. Now i have opened up the pc, and checked all cables/connections. I have also tried re-arranging the ram modules (using one only, using both, etc. ) And also used different hard drives so i think i can say that items are ok. There is no sound card / modem / etc. , Everything is on-board so all slots are free except for the agp. The system came with built-in graphics but i have put a vid. Card in the agp slot which automaticaly disables on-board video. Unfortunately, i cannot recall exactly how long ago the problem started to occur - that would allow me to determine for sure whether the problem is related to the graphics card. Now i have tried removing the agp card and resorting to on-board video and the comp has booted without problem however that was a single time and due to the randomness of the problem, i still can't say 100% that it's related to the agp card, especially since i don't understand the technical side of the system boot. First, can anyone describe / explain that 'click' sound that occurs after boot. i.e. , Is it the hard drive / something else initializing?
I guess the next question, would a bad video card / bad slot be a possible cause of this? I have taken the vid card out and put it back in, ensuring that it is in firm, etc. The randomness of the problem compounds the difficulty of trying to pinpoint it. Once the comp is on, it works fine, and it's really just random when the freeze-up / boot problems occur, i.e. I can think of no specific activity/action that causes it.

Pc System Freeze Shortly After Xp Log On
Whenever i turn on my pc after it has been off for some hours it freezes during the first 5 minutes. This usually happens shortly after log-on (on win xp and linux) but also if i wait for 5 minutes in the boot menu or the bios setup. After the freeze i can restart it and everything works fine, the system is stable for hours. In rare cases i get a second freeze but always only during the first few minutes. I have already made a bios update, checked the ram with memtest86, and bought a new psu. Now i am running out of ideas.computer specifications:
- Intel core 2 duo e6750 + boxed fan
- Asus p5n-e sli nforce650i
- Mdt dimm kit 2048mb pc2-6400u cl5 (ddr2-800)
- Psu: be quiet! Straight power 600w
- Gainward bliss 8800 gts 320mb pcie

Xoxide Mouse Cause Computer Freeze
My mouse wont work. Its that glowing one from xoxide, and every time i plug it in my computer freezes. Same thing with my backlit keyboard, the backlite function freezes anything. I know the products are ok because ive used them on my older hp computer. Im thinking it could be my motherboard, because it has some problems with onboard sensors already. Anyone know if i can fix it? Or is it completely non-motherboard related?

Hard Drive Causes Xp To Freeze On Boot Up
I have an older dell system (by older i mean over 3 yrs) and i installed a wd 160 gb hard drive in it about a year ago using the supplied controller card, with an ntfs format to the drive. The drive (which has been my main data storage drive since i installed it) worked fine for that year. Resently i was installing a program off of a cd that was scratched up pretty bad on to that drive. After multiple cleanings of the disk, and crashing of the installer the computer totally locked up. I couldn't even get the num lock lights to function. So i hit the reset button. When the computer tried to come back up it froze at the blank (black) screen after the windows xp booting screen. After some intenstive trouble shooting of the attached hardware i discovered that if i removed the 160 gb drive from the system (either physically, or by disabling the controller card) the system booted fine. I also tried the drive connected directly to the eide controller on the motherboard with only the boot drive as the only other device and it was connected to the other controller, this also caused the system to freeze in the same spot. Trying the drive on another xp machine, and a windows 2000 machine resulted in simular issues (the windows 2000 machine stoped at the windows splash with the scrooling blue bar. )
I even moved all of the data off of one of the other drives, reformated it, and reinstalled windows xp, and service pack 1 on that drive. When i connect the 160 gb drive up it does the same thing. Also trying to reinstall windows with the drive attached causes windows to freeze at the point that it tries to check that drive. Now here is the real puzzling part, running the western digital diagonstics (it's called life gaurd or something like that) it doesn't show any bad sectors or anything on the drive (i did the extensive test that also does a phsyical scan of the drive, looking for damage to the platters i assume), and running ntfs-reader allows me to read, and copy the files off of the drive, unfortunitly i don't have enough combined space on the two good drives (a 20gb. And a 9gb) to copy off the mission critical stuff i have stored on the drive (about a years worth of video editing of old vhs tapes that i was transfering to dvd for my inlaws. ) Any suggestions other then reformat, and re-edit the vhses?

Dvd R / Rw Drive Cause Computer Freeze
I recently changed cases to the antec 900 since it had more fans and better cooling. I didn't change any hardware except for my power supply (500w to a 550w). I connect everything back up, and my dvd drive doesn't work. The symptoms are as follows. I can put a cd or a dvd in there, and it locks up my pc. It locks up everything but my mouse. I can move my mouse around, but cannot click anything. When i eject the cd or dvd, my computer unfreezes. I do not have to reboot. While the cd or dvd is in there, i can do nothing, but once i eject it, everything else is fine again. I know it is not the ide cables, as it does this with 2 different cables. It smells like a driver issue, but i tried uninstalling both the dvd rom drive and the ide controllers and rebooting to let windows reinstall the drivers, and neither of these attempts fixed the problem. Anyone have any ideas? The dvd drive is a sony dru-800a, and it is the only drive connected to the secondary ide channel. My hard drive is on the primary ide channel. I have no other devices connected to the ide channels. The only other thing i changed when i had my computer in the old case was the 3. 5in floppy drive. I didn't feel the need to install it with the new case.
