Hard Disc Error - Remove The Windows Exclusive Option

The problem is that when i run a scan (using symantec disc doctor) it finds the error but when i run it with fix errors enabled it says that it cannot perform the repair as windows has exclusive use to my hdd. It schedules a reboot scan and that scan come back with no errors. Does anyone know how to correct this problem or remove the windows exclusive option with out reformatting which isn't an option as the error is on my c drive.

Does Windows ' Turn Off Hard Disks ' Option Affect Drive Lifespan ?
Does anyone know if the windows (xp home in this case) "turn off hard disks" option in power options properties > power schemes will affect the amount of wear and tear on a hard drive or how long the drive will last? I'm not worried about the power consumption, i just want to avoid excess wear and tear on the drive.

Hibernation Facility / Option Disappeared In Windows
I had a problem with my laptop, which led me to using the windows xp recovery disk supplied plus the utilities disc as supplied. It solved the problem i had, but created a couple of others. Firstly my hibernation facility disappeared despite me going through the process of enabling it. Secondly, when i boot up, the windows size (max and mim) always start on mim and i have to maximise it manually. But on booting up again all the windows are on the minimum size again. Of course i can live with this, but it is very annoying.

Whenever i want to remove a program from my computer a window opens up which says "rundell32". ? Use Windows Xp Disc From Dell Onto Custom Built Pc
Can you use the windows xp disc from dell onto a new custom built pc? Okay so when i bought my dell laptop a few years ago i got a windows xp disc with it, my question is can you use that disc to clean install onto a brand new custom built machine? Then as i am at high school get windows 7 pro upgrade for £30 and use that to make the machine go to windows 7? Or is that too ambitious and xp wouldn't install/ be upgradeable?

Cd Rom Drive Shows Audio Disc Instead Of Data Disc
Got a problem with a system here with windows 98 se. The cdrom drive claims to have an audio disc inserted with one track when in fact it is a genuine data disc. Have changed the cdrom but problem persists. Any ideas anyone?

Set Up Did Not Find Any Hard Disc Drives
My pc has just developed a problem which i desperately need help with now as was covered by a savastore.com warranty!
When rebooting the machine from recovery disc message states that "set up did not find any hard disc drives installed in your computer".

I have encountered a problem when installing windows xp on a bare system. It starts up fine, then loads into the windows blue screen, checking for hardware configuration, but then upon windows startup, it stops and announces an error. Stop: 0x0000007e (0xc0000005, 0x80840a02, 0xf78d205c, 0xf78d1d58). Any advice as to what to do would be helpful, i believe the problem to be either having the cpu been installed (physically) but no drivers yet in place or something to do with the hdd configuration.

Can't Remove Slave Drive Or Windows Won't Start
Since i can only plug in 2 hard drives at once, i wanted to take out my secondary drive that i only use for data and replace it with a different one so i could make a partition. The hd with the os stayed in the cpu, but when i take out the slave drive and try to boot it up, it gives me an error about not being able to find the hal.dll file from my system32 folder.

External Hard Drive Stuck In ' Safe To Remove Mode '
My external hard drive is stuck in 'safe to remove mode' and wont show up or be detected on any computer. Its a 400gb seagate, 16mb cache, connects through usb and i'm running windows xp. It powers up and everything, and i can hear it running, but it isn't detected on any computer. So i cant even uninstall or reinstall the drivers. It just randomly started doing this one day. I saw an error once that told me the problem was that it was stuck in 'safe to remove' mode but i cant seem to find it anymore. It told me to unplug it, reboot and plug it in again but that doesn't work. Maybe i can reformat it? But then again i don't know how to do that either.

Windows Protection Error
One of my machines that is an ibm aptiva has been giving me a windows protection error sporadically when i turn it on. Once i shut it off and turn it back on it goes into safe mode and the only thing i know to check is to go into control panel, system, and device manager. I never see any conflicts in there, so i just restart it. And, so far every time it comes up okay. Can someone give me a clue as to what i should do when this happens, and perhaps tell me what could be wrong? The machine has a 300 mhz amd k6-2 processor. I don't know what other information i should provide, nor where i should look for things.

Windows Xp Cpu Overheating Error
My friend of mine has a 7 year old windows xp computer that has been locked in the closet for god knows how long and has collected lots and lots of dust as you can imagine. She started the computer only to find it said "cpu overheating error" or something along the lines. I recommended she checked the temperature of the cpu and she fount out it was at 92 degree's celsius. I told her to clean all the dust out from the tower, and once completed, she checked the temperature again, it went down to 75, and then hovered around 74 but still the computer wouldn't start - which leads me on to my next problem. The computer would just freeze on the "packard bell" screen, it wouldn't do anything at all. Wouldn't load, nothing. Before it got to the screen, you could get to the bios settings (otherwise you wouldn't be able to find out temperature etc) but you couldn't run the computer in safe mode because the button for safe mode didn't work. So even though the computers temperature is 75 celsius, it wont get past the frozen packard bell screen. Any ideas on what she can do to fix her computer? She wants to use it without really paying over £20 for fixing cost, otherwise she'll just buy a new one.

Stuck On Windows Error Recovery
Last night my laptop started going to the windows recovery screen, saying 'windows failed to start. A recent hardware or software change might be the cause'. It gives me two options: 'start windows normally' and 'launch system repair'. When i choose to start it normally, it goes onto the screen with the green loading bar and the windows copyright sign and freezes on that, leaving me no way to do anything except hold the off button until it restarts. When i choose to launch the system repairs, it comes up with a box that says its repairing which stays up for about half an hour before it goes to the same screen as i mentioned before (green bar, copyright) and, once again, freezes. I've tried launching in safe mode (all three of them) and i've also tried launching it with the same settings as the last sucessful boot. Both of these go to the green bar/copyright screen and freeze. Last time the laptop was working, i didnt download anything at all, so i dont think software could be causing this. My laptop is a dell inspiron 1525 and runs windows vista basic. What can i do to fix this? I would really really like to avoid an entire system reboot because i have files on there that i dont want to lose, including thousands of pictures and my 1500 song itunes library!

It runs win media centre installed hardware are wireless keyboard and mouse, a webcam, a belkin net adapter, an m-audio midi-man sport, monitor speakers installed software is windows, drivers for the above hardware, including three sent by email from mesh, cubase sx3 and some voicebanks, avg. We didn't reinstall anything else.

Keyboard Error: ( Code 39 ) On Windows Vista
I just popped vista back onto my computer (32-bit) to use, having heard of improved support for it. However, my keyboard shows up as "standard 101/102-key or microsoft natural ps/2 keyboard", and has "windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware. The driver may be corrupted or missing. (Code 39)" in the status box. Location states it as "plugged into keyboard port". The funny thing is, it worked fine the first few boot-ups, and now the keyboard does nothing in windows but works fine all the way up to the loading-bar splash screen when windows begins to load (after post and all that). I'm convinced this is some sort of driver issue or conflict, but i've tried reinstalling the default driver and enabling/disabling the keyboard, without any result. Does anyone know what to do? I don't want to just reinstall vista again, because this could easily recur since i have no idea what even caused it .

About an hour ago i was getting ready to go to bed, i turned off my monitor. Same thing i do everynight. Then i heard the "beep" of my computer restarting. So naturally i'm like "***?" So i turn my computer on, it loads up, and then it starts acting wierd. I never go to do anything while in windows, but i tried closing some of the *** on startup, anyway, it was as if the comp froze. Now to my problem. I restarted my pc after it was being slow, thinking well. Maybe something is just wrong with it. On startup it gave me the horrible "blue screen" a problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer. Unmountable_boot_volume

I went to the microsoft website in an effort to download directx 9 because that's what my error message says i'm having a problem with. But still no luck. Also, i'm running the 64 bit version of windows 7 here, and these are my specs:
2. 66ghz intel core 2 duo processor with 3mb on-chip shared l2 cache
Nvidia geforce 320m graphics processor with 256mb of ddr3 sdram
320gb 5400-rpm serial ata hard drive (35 gigs partitioned for windows 7, i do believe)
4gb of 1066mhz ddr3 memory
When i run dxdiag on windows, under the display tab all of the directx features are marked as unavailable which i'm assuming is the cause of my problems. There isn't a button or anything i can click to make them available or to enable the features, and i'm becoming quite frustrated here. Any suggestions?

I have windows xp, however it wont load and says:

Usb Card Registry Error With Windows 98se
I recently purchased a usb 2. 0 card. It is a startech 4-port usb 2. 0 pci card. The model number is pci425usb. I installed the card, with updated drivers from the site, and everything seemed to be working fine, until windows booted. When all of the start up programs were starting i recieved many errors. The one that i remember, and the most serious one, is that windows registry encountered and error and that i had to reboot to fix it. I rebooted and got trapped in an endless cycle of this. In the end i removed the card and everything worked fine. I would like to be able to use the card with windows 98se.

System Reboots When Install Windows Without Error Message
Assembling a rig for a friend; after troubleshooting various hardware problems, got it to correctly display video and recognize all the hardware. My trouble starts when i try to install windows. I boot the disc, go to install it (the point where it says 'press enter to continue' right before it checks the drives and whatnot), press enter, and without error message the system reboots. I have tried installing sata drivers by pressing f6 and not; both circumstances lead to a reboot.computer specifications:

Error Message - Windows Encountered A Problem Copying To Cd
I am not having much luck with computers lately. Not sure if this is a problem with the dvd-rw drive or windows, but will start here. I was helping a neighbor do a back up of their pictures. Was using the options under windows to do the copying, not a software program like nero. We had successfully burned 2 cd's and on the third, it appeared to have copied the files, went through all of the steps, the drawer popped open and said finish. But then upon putting the disk back in, it showed a blank when the drive information showed up. So i tried copying one file and got the same message. So then i tried copying a file from the desktop to my documents, it copied, and also able to copy a file to a thumbdrive. Not sure if this is a hardware issue or something in windows, since upon copying files, it actually is creating a temporary file, you might think if it was the dvd - rw drive, it would show up later in the process. Any suggestions?

This is totally bs out of nowhere my vista home basic expired. It's a legit version. The thing is that i don't have my legit window disk with me right now, will get it first thing tomorrow. In the mean time i want to ask
If i can still use the old key that i bought before to reactivate?
If i install another os, like xp, will i be able to transfer all files and program (i don't mind losing my all stuff but i real need endnote x2 to work perfectly-it has all my mom's phd works. )
Also anyone have any temporary solution so that i can transfer files to another computer? Tried the c: thing in browser but that only gain me access but can't use anything.
