Gets A Single Long Bios Beep, Repeating Every 5 Sec

Everything is installed, hdd, memory, optical drives, processor, ect, and i try to start it up and everything seems to have power, but i just get a bios beeps. Its an msi board and i already checked the memory and that seems to be good, have to check the video card, and processor still, and psu and mobo, but that will just be ruled out by the time everything else is checked. Anyways, it has phoenix bios and this_chart has the codes for the beeps, but all i get is one single long beep, repeating every like 5 or so seconds, no boot up screen or anything.

Bios Beeping, A Long Beep Followed By Two Short Beeps

I am receiving the bios beeping of a long beep followed by two short beeps. According to every source that i have consulted about this code, it means that there is a problem with the video card. I have been using this card for a year now and it has functioned just fine up to this point. Nevertheless, i have reseated it several times to no avail. Next, i tried using a brand new video card and received the same error. I can therefore speculate that my issue isn't with the card, but with another component. I am not sure how to tell whether it is the motherboard or the power supply. I am therefore seeking advice on how to tell. At the time the problem began, i was playing stepmania, a dance dance revolution computer emulation program. The game itself can be played on very low-end systems with little or no problem, so i would not expect that it would have over-heated anything. During my gameplay, the computer crashed and restarted itself. After the computer restarted itself, it began booting windows. At the black windows xp screen with the bar that goes across the screen multiple times until going to the user accounts screen, the computer froze and i was forced to reboot the computer manually. From this point forward, the bios began giving the beeps and would not allow the computer to turn on again. I am currently using an enermax 600w psu sli power supply. It has never given me an issue since the day i bought it, nor given me a reason to believe that it was failing. I have connected the video card to the two power connectors with the provided power splitting cable. I have also plugged in the extra sli video card power cable on the motherboard even though i am not using sli. Because of these things, i would certainly hope that the power supply is not causing the issue. I am using an asus a8n-sli nforce4 ultra, pcie socket 939 motherboard. When powered up, the power supply led indicator shines green. All fans turn on, including that of the video card. All pieces of my computer, with the exception of the hard drives and cd drives, were purchased at the same time. I tested the video problem with a brand new bfg geforce 7950 gt 512mb pcie w/dual dvi/hdtv card as well. I am not sure if this is related, but i was having some trouble with my cd drives recognizing some media prior to the problem. Does anyone have a suggestion as to what could be the issue behind this system failure? Also i have tried resetting the bios cmos as well. In case there is use in this information, here is a list of all the parts:-

Computer specifications:

Asus a8n-sli nforce4 ultra, pcie socket 939 motherboard
Ocz 2048mb pc3200 ddr 400mhz el platinum (2 x 1024)
Amd athlon 64 x2 4200+ socket 939 (manchester)
Enermax 600w psu sli / server ready, pfc
Evga geforce 7900 gtx 512mb pcie w/dual dvi

Single Beep On One Boot

Alright. I was playing around in the bios and i selected a fsb setting of 166 and rebooted. Blank screen, no boot. Nothing. So, as in previous instances of this i cleared the cmos by the jumper on my soltek sl-75frn2 and held the insert key as i powered on. Nothing. No go. The cd-rom reads, but doesn't do anything else. The hdd light comes on for about 20 seconds and disapears. I heard a single beep on one boot, that is all. I have unseated the memory and videocard independently to see if i would get a beep but there were no such instances.

Random Single Beep From 1520 Notebook

I have had this inspiron 1520 notebook/laptop since nov 2007. Occasionally, during use, i get a random single beep from it. It can be while i'm actually typing on the keyboard or even while it's briefly idle, it can be while on mains power or running on battery. There doesn't seem to be any particular reason for it. Is there a known issue for such a noise? I have looked in the event viewer for any hints, but there are no highlighted problems for the time of the beep and am at a loss as to where else to look. If there is a known issue i would like to get it sorted out before any warranty expires.

One Long Beep Followed By 3 Short Beeps

I just took apart my computer to clean it up some, but when i put it back together i forgot to plug in the 6 pin connector to my videocard. When i turned it on i got a long beep that wouldn't stop. I turned it on and off about 3 times to see if it'd go away before i noticed that i didn't have that plugged into my 9800gt. I plugged it in, then turned it on and the sound went away. Unforunately, when i turn on my pc now i don't get any video. I tried replace the 9800gt to my 7800gt, but i still get the same issue. I tried removing the ram and putting in 1 stick in at a time in different sockets, but that didn't fix anything either. I even tried putting my old 2gb pc6400 buffalo firestix in it, but that didn't work either. So now everytime i turn on my computer i get the long beep followed by 3 short ones. I looked online and it said that it's either memory or videocard issue i believe. If this is in the wrong place, then please move it and i apologize in advance. This is going to be a boring weekend if i can't get this fixed. Any suggestions besides doing a barrel roll?

Long Beep Then Three Short Beeps

Ok, i dont know how this happened but went to turn on my computer and there was no display, the hd did not bootup and the motherboard beeped. The sequence was poweron - one long beep inmediately then three short beeps stringt after. Also three seconds after that there are two more tones but deeper (like a sound effect from an old beeb or speccy game). Now heres the problem: i don't know the manufacturer of the board and i don't have the manual. Also as i can't see anything i can't get the serial to check on the web. There is little info to be got by looking at the motherboard. There is an sis 5571 chipset, an award bios chip, and a winboard chip but little else labelled. So far i removed all ram and that created a different beeping noise so i don't think its a ram issue. Also the psu works fine and all fans spin. Power to all devices and all cables are attached properly and firmly. Tried resetting the bios by removing the battery for 30min, but that did not help. Tried removing the cards and ide cables, one device at a time but that made no difference either. Bit stuck with this one really. Any ideas?

Beep Code - 1 Long, 2 Short

This morning my pc told me my network cable was unplugged after being on the net for 30 min. I rebooted the computer and was confronted with the beep code: 1 long, 2 short. No video though case and cpu heat-sink fans are running. I researched these codes and found : video ram error or memory error (depending on where i went). This is what i've tried:

(1) reseated video card and memory
(2) swapped video card to diff pci-e slot
(3) swapped video card for known working backup
(4) swapped memory for spare set of 2x512mb pc 3200
(5) gave mobo a once over to check for blown caps >>>none found

Things i'm contemplating doing:

(1) changing power supply (too much hassle now since i'm going to work in 20 mins). (2) try other 2 memory slots (didn't do it yet since manual said to use a1 and b1 slots for my configuration). This incident will make me get off my ass and finally upgrade to my i7 system in waiting, but i hate to build under these conditions. Any and all input and suggestions are appreciated. This is my system:

Asus a8n 32sli deluxe
Opteron 170 (stock)
Evga 8800gts video card
2x1gb ocz ddr pc3200 (set to correct voltages and timings)
Enermax noisetaker eg701 power supply
Samsung and seagate sata drives (2 of each)
Benq 1620 dvd burner

Computer Freezes, Then Long Beep

Often when i boot my computer, usualy the first time in the day or whatever, after 10-20-30 minutes of use it will act a little bit funny. First of all, when i right click the desktop, the menu will only half appear. Sort of semi transparent. Then a few seconds later, everything freezes, and i get a long beep until i restart. Then everything seems fine again?

Im thinking it could be a power-supply issue. Im pushing it a little bit with 380w and my set up i feel, but does anyone have any other ideas? What could the long beep mean? I also think it could be dodgy ram. Ill give more details if needs be, i just thought i'd post in case anyone had some ideas.

Bootup Beeps: One Long Beep Followed By Two Short Ones

Last night my computer was working perfectly fine. Today when i try to turn it on, it makes a strange bootup beep (one long beep followed by two short ones) and the monitor doesn't engage properly (it remains blinking instead of having a steady led, keeps a black screen). I've had this computer for about 2 1/2 years (built it myself) but don't know what's wrong. Any ideas?

No Display, Computer Freezes, Long Beep

I've tried to troubleshoot my way through this, but find myself too frustrated with my own machine to think straight. Any help would be greatly appreciated. The problem started with my monitor (seemingly at random) going into power saving mode. I wouldn't be able to bring it back out of power saving mode without doing a complete restart of my system. I suspected either the video card (ati radeon x1300 w/256mb) or the monitor (lg lcd). I tried a different monitor and had the same problem. I tried switching the connection from dvi to vga. Still, the same problem. Definitely the video card. Except now i'm not so sure. I just fired it up again and opened the web browser, only to have the whole computer freeze up on me (i could move the mouse, but that was all. Clicking and keyboard commands were completely useless) and then my display went dead black, without even the warning about power saving mode. The computer appeared to still be running, though. The lights were on, and i could hear fan noise. So, i powered down, waited 5, then powered back on and attempted to login as admin in safe mode. Windows didn't even finish booting this time before it froze. There was also a long, continuous beep coming from within the case. The screen went dead again, the beep continued, and the computer still seemed to be running. I powered down, waited another 5, then powered back on one last time. This time, though, the screen wouldn't come on at all. The computer, though, did again seem to be running (lights, fan noise, etc). If not for the freezing and the long beep, i'd still suspect the video card, but now i'm not so sure. Does anyone have any ideas or suggestions?

No Post Screen Or Bios Beep

An old amd xp1600 system gave up the ghost. I've replaced the psu with a qtec 350w, replaced the mobo with an asus p4r800 vm and the new cpu is a p4 2. 8 ht and changed the memory to 512mb ddr400.connected all the ide cables, cpu fan cable, and both power cables to mobo and the front panel connectors to the header. When i power up the pc the cd/dvd drives work, cpu fan spins, power led on mobo lights and hdd makes encouraging sounds but no post screen or bios beep. Have tried reseating and checking all the connectors but still no joy. Anybody got any ideas why i shouldn't be getting a beep or post screen?

Do I Have A Dead Motherboard ? No Beep, No Bios Screen

This machine ran beautifully for over a year. For several months now, this homebuilt machine would occasionally fail to boot or restart, but it's gotten to where it will successfully post and boot maybe one out of 20 times. As of tonight, it will not boot no matter how many times i try. There's power - but no beep, no bios screen, just psu fan, cpu fan and case fan spinning. Pulled the board, and saw no sign of shorting. Thing's i've tried:

- Cmos battery (cr2032) was dead, at least my tester showed it just in the red, right below the green, so i thought, "aha!" And went to get a new battery today. Tested it before installing, it showed a full charge. Did the jumper thing on the motherboard that clears the cmos cache. Put in new battery - no difference. Dammit!

- Backside of motherboard shorted against the case? I pulled the motherboard, which was carefully stood-off when i installed it, completely out of the case, laid it on a dry towel, and connected only the 2 power connectors to the board, monitor to the on-board video connector, and one stick of ram (tried both sticks, one at a time). Attempted to power up to see if i'd get the post beep - it should post and show me the bios screen even if no drives are connected, right? But nothing. Just the psu, cpu and case fans come on. No beep, no bios screen. - Power supply? Pulled the power supply motherboard connector. Using a paper clip, i jumped the green and black pins to power up the psu while the connector was unhooked. The psu fan runs fine. With a digital multimeter, i tested all pins on the 24-pin atx power connector, plus the 4-pin cpu power connector. All the voltages are correct. The 3. 3v, 5. 0v, and 12. 0v values are all spot-on. I realize that is with no load, but it is something. - When the machine was running in xp, the asus motherboard monitoring app showed all voltages and temperatures to be normal. I rarely saw the cpu go above 45 celsius. - Seating of ram, video card, ethernet? Pulled everything and re-seated it. Tried both ram sticks, one at a time. - Ide issue? Tried every possible permuation of master/slave, primary/secondary on the ide chain with my ide devices, plus every ide cable i have lying around (which is quite a few). Also tried no ide at all. No difference. I'm at my wits' end! I am thinking the board is dead, since the psu seems to test out, and on the rare occassion when the machine does boot normally, it runs with perfect stability for days and days in either xp or os x, never had any sudden shutdowns out of nowhere. Here's the specs:
Processor: amd athlon 64 x2 4200+ dual-core - 2. 2ghz
Motherboard: asus m2nbp-vm
2gb ram (two sticks, 1 patriot and 1 crucial, tried together and individually)
320 gb sata hard drive
160 gb ide hard drive
Lg dvd-rw ide optical drive
Primo p4 atx mid tower case with 500w power supply
Added a geforce 7600 pci x16 for os x
Added a realtek 8139 pci ethernet card for os x

I am not doing any overclocking.

Bios Takes Long Time To Identify Dvd Drives On Ide 2

I recently updated my pc - new ram, new sata hard drive and a new case. I've put everything in the case and after a few issues, i got it running. I do seem to have some troubles with my cd/dvd drives though and i was wondering if anyone could give me some help. First, here's a rough overview of the important bits:

Msi 865pe neo2 pfisr motherboard
120gb ide hd - on ide1 as master
160gb sata hd - on "ide3"
1 dvd-rom drive - on ide2 as master
1 dvd writer - on id2 as slave

The trouble is that when i have the above setup, the bios takes a long time trying to identify my dvd drives on ide2. It must eventually give up and believe nothing is there. The hd's are fine, just no dvd drives. Now if i unplug the slave drive on ide2, the master drive works fine. I haven't tried putting the slave dvd as a master yet but i'll try that as the first thing when i get back. Is it possible to something blow a drive or ground it to my case? Something stupid like that?

Now lets say i get home and both dvd drives work separately but not together. Does anyone have any clue what else it could be? I've just moved the drives from one case to another so the jumpers are correct etc. The cable is also fine (tried it with a spare - same problem).

Reboot Repeating

My pc froze during a disk clean - sounded like an aircraft taking off too. However, when i tried to stop the action, the screen froze and i switched off and restarted pc. Problem is now that it won't boot up! Gets past the windows xp splash screen, goes black for a few seconds, then simply reboots, and simply keeps doing it! I have tried rebooting in safe mode but to no avail. I am loathe to do a system restore as i think i'll lose so much. Help anyone? Using windows xp pro by the way.

Repeating Unresponsive Keyboard In Games

In various games like l4d2, tf2, resident evil 5 and dragon age, i've been having a problem where my keyboard presses repeat as though i were holding the key down. This is mixed with unresponsiveness, where i will press a key and not get a reaction in the game until a second later. This is despite high frame-rates and low latency. e.g. I am using wasd to walk around, i press w and there is no response, after a brief pause my character moves forward and after letting go of the w my character will continue walking forward a bit longer than i pressed. It happens with other keys too. Maybe it's linked to another problem i've been having, which is that in etw, things sometimes get quite choppy suddenly after playing for a little and i get some weird noises. It's not a case of stuff being stuck in the keyboard, since ordinary typing doesn't produce this problem. Oh and also, the problem will often go away temporarily when i restart my pc. I haven't established any kind of pattern for when it happens. I'm using an apple keyboard and windows 7 pro x64. I did about 3 passes of memtest86 and no errors turned up. It happens with or without a cpu overclock.

On Startup Power Goes Down For 2, 3 Sec, Then Comes Back

The problem is just at startup, when i push the power the computer starts for maybe a second (all fans light and start including psu and the mobo lights up), then all power apparently goes down for about 2 or 3 sec, then all power comes back and everything from that time on is normal, the voltages of the psu are well with in tolerance, as matter of fact never seen voltages so close. And the computer is stable from that on, its just on the startup. Im not sure if this is normal o not, im think its not, but if its not i am guessing it could be either psu or mobo. Maybe there is power-saving stuff that i don't know that might be causing this, im really lost here, maybe someone else have experience something similar that can suggest me something.system:-

When playing games online i notice a wierd occurence. For example, in cs:s or cs 1. 6, when i am running around, for a second my mouse and keyboard will lock up and continue to go the direction i was going. I think this is due to the fact that i am using a wireless mouse and keyboard and just want to confirm this. Nothing goes wrong with the graphics or the gameplay.could it be anything else?

4 Monitors On A Single 5870

I'm looking to eyefinity 4 monitors (3 would be 1 group and extended on the fourth). My monitors don't have display ports, and so from what i read i would have to buy active adapters for the last two monitors. If i just buy another 5870 would i be able to use the dvi on the second card?

It seems it would be better to go ahead and get another card instead of spending 200$ on adapters. Is there something i'm missing or is this the only way?

How To Tell If Ram Is Single Sided ?

My problem is i got a new epox mobo with my new athlon 64. The mobo is on the nforce chipset which i can only have one double sided stick of ram and the other stick has to be single sided. Or to get 3 gigs on there they all have to be single sided. I just ordered a geil ultra series value 1 gig stick pc-3200, cas lat is 3 8-4-4. So my question is i'm lookin for a single sided stick 1 gig pc 3200 to go with it (not sure if the geil is single sided i sent ten million emails to companies that make decent ram don't get replies half the time or they say yeah we have some single sided ram but they never give me the model no. Or anything even when i mail them back. ) So is there anyway to tell if its single sided on the net? Or can anyone recommend a single sided 1 gig stick of pc 3200?

Pci Single Board Computer

Does anyone know of any single board computers that can be used in pc pci or pci-x slot and either run its own instance of windows or linux or function as an added cpu in addition to the motherboard cpu?

I know most of these things are meant for specialized pci backplanes for industrial computers. I'm looking for something along the lines of the old sunpci cards. There were similar products for macs way back, starting with the 68k radius rockets and followed by amd and pentium boards that went in ppc systems. I'm looking for something p3 or newer just to play around with. And not looking for something that is going to require specialized programming to use.

A Single 5870 Enough For A 30 Inch Monitor ?

About to order my new rig to coincide with the release of windows 7, i got most of what i want in there already figured out:

Phenom ii x4 965 (the 955 is only 20 bucks cheaper)
Msi 790fx-gd70
4 gb ocz black edition 8-8-8-24 1600
2 640gb wd caviar black in raid 0
Sapphire radeon hd 5870
Lian li x1000
Corsair tx850w
Samsun 305t 30 inch monitor @ 2560x1600
Prolimatech megahalems

I plan on playing games at max settings crysis/crysis warhead included. I am worried that at that resolution 1 5870 will not cut it and i am already over my budget by a solid 300$ to afford the second graphic card would have to wait for the end of next november probably. If i wait till november i might as well see what the new nvidia cards look like and just buy this thing post xmas (might get a better deal!). So the way i see it i can do one of two things, buy it now or buy an xbox 360 to tide me over till january and buy the best computer i can afford then! I refuse to pay 3300$ for a computer and not bbe blown away by the performance!
