Dvd Drive Works Until Windows Starts
Replies: 6 | Post Date: May 20th, 2007, 08:29 AM | User: Caifan | Forums: forums.devshed.comRecently i connected my hd into other pc then i connected it back on my pc but now i'm having a hard time to make my dvd drive work, i never had problems before and it was working fine. This is what happens: when i turn on the pc, the dvd led flashes and everything, i can open and close the tray without problems. The dvd drive is showed in the bios too. But as soon as windows xp starts loading the dvd drive wont work, with this i mean it wont even open the tray. Once windows has started its the same. It looks like the drive is detected because under device manager it shows this: "dvd-rom scsi cdrom device", and my other cd drive is listed too. But when i try to access it, i get a "please insert a disk into drive e:" eventho i already have a disc there. If i try to eject it using windows nothing happens. This is how i have my connections:
(Got primary and secundary ide enabled in bios)
Primary ide: master is my hd
Primary ide: slave is cd-rom drive
Secundary ide: master is dvd drive (the one with problems)
Secundary ide: slave = nothing
Already tried swapping the dvd-drive to primary ide as slave but it happens exactly the same. Im so confused, why would it work before windows starts to load, but wont work after? What do you recommend me to do? Im out of ideas, do you think its the drive jumpers? Or something related to windows? Should i reinstall?

I have a dvd drive which i have been using for a long time now but to be honest never used it to play a movie only for software and the occasional cd. I decided to slap in a dvd today and the audio is an ungodly loud static type of sound. Like ready to blow the speakers type of sound. Sound quality is crystal clear with a music cd though. Any ideas what the problem could be?

Keyboard Works In Windows Xp Pro But Not In Windows Vista
After cleaning up my hard drive yesterday, my keyboard would not work in vista ultimate 64bit. I tried 2 other keyboards. Neither of which would work either. 2 were ps2 keyboards and one was usb. Now, each keyboard was identified at post and would work in the bios. Now here is the really weird part. I decided i would go ahead and do a fresh intall of vista, as i was about due for it anyway. Just in case. I also cleared cmos just in case i somehow change something in the bios that was causing this (though i doubt it since the keyboard worked in bios). So, i reinstalled vista, and was able to use the keyboard to put in the activation key. So, i thought i was all set. However, once windows fully booted, none of the keyboards would work again. How is it possible that this problem carried over to a fresh install?
At this point, i became very frustrated. I decided to try installing windows xp pro. The xp installed, and now all of the keyboards work perfectly in windows. This would be fine, but i've got use to vista now, and would prefer to use it. Anyone have any idea what this might be? Could it have anything to do with installing vista too many times, so it started to disable functions.

Pc Starts To Boot And Freezes Before Windows
I turned on the pc and the "intel desktop boards" screen appears. And that is it! Usually that would flash and the next screen would be detecting my ide card and recognizing the hard drives but it doesnt even get there. The screen that it is stuck on shows the processor speed, how much ram, and that the keyboard, mouse, and the usb legacy is enabled. The bottom says hit f2 to run set up and f12 if you want to boot from network. I can not get into the bios. The most i made it do was get it to say "entering setup" by hitting f2 as soon as the page came up. But it never goes anywhere after that. Frozen! Any advise would be greatly appreciated. I am not a computer wiz, just a long time tinkerer. I have built 2 or 3 in my lifetime and have just basic knowledge.

Mouse And Keyboard Freeze When Windows Xp Starts Up
Sometimes when windows xp professional starts up on my computer, the mouse will not work properly. It is just frozen at the welcome screen. However, i can still use the keyboard to login. The mouse is a ps/2 mouse. After windows finishes login in and shows the desktop, the mouse is still frozen. Sometimes the mouse will function properly on the welcome screen. However when my computer enters standby mode the mouse and keyboard are both usually frozen when i try to bring the computer out of standby mode and the computer is unresponsive. I think this has also happened after a few minutes of not using the computer while the computer was running.

Dissappearing Dvd Drive In Windows Xp
I recently installed a cd-rw drive into my new computer, which came packaged with a dvd-rom drive. After i installed the cd-rw, and turned on the computer, the dvd drive dissappeared. Please note that the dvd drive had origonally shown up when the system was booted before installation of the cd-rw. It shows up on the cmos, but not in windows. I can get the drive to show up by using the add new hardware wizard. After using this, the drive is detected and it works fine for the duration of the computer being on in that session. However, after restarting, the drive dissappears again. Windows does not detect it automatically for some reason. It dosen't show up in the device manager until i use the add new hardware wizard. I've tried uninstalling the device drivers from the device manager after using the add new hardware wizard, the letting windows detect it again and install it from scratch, but it dosen't pick it up when the system starts up. I hope someone has an idea what to do. Fyi the dvd drive is a hitachi and the cd-rw is a mitsumi cr-4802te. I have a second hard drive installed, which is designated the letters e, f, and g. My computer reboot itself when it starts to load windows 2000. 1 - i thaught about the sasser virus but it's no that
2 - i tested my hard drive on another computer there is no problem it boot and works properly. 3 - i have 2 memory sticks. I tested with one and with the over it does't change anything. The system reboot
I bougth my master card and the 2 memory sticks last year and i had never got any problem with them until i came back from holidays.

I don't need anything fancy or expensive. I primarily use my dvd drive to install/play games and occasionally burn something to a dvd. It should be compatible with vista 64-bit and windows 7. Any recommendations?

Usb Keyboard Works In Bios But Not In Windows Xp
I have this friend whose ps/2 keyboard port is broken. He bought a usb keyboard to use with his pc, but when he gets to the winxp welcome screen, the keyboard wouldn't work, so, naturally he can't logon for the keyboard to be recognized. Are there any possibilities to get the keyboard to work before logging into windows? Also - the usb keyboard works when he tries to go into the bios.

Logitech Keyboard Starts Working After Windows Run For 7 Min
My keyboard is taking about 7 minutes of windows running to start working. The lights and stuff work when i plug it in, but i have to have windows run for 7 minutes for the regular keys to start working. I have used different computers, different usb slots, updated the drivers, uninstalled and reinstalled, and same problem.

So i went for a new ps2 mouse.initially it was ok but second time when i started the computer it gave me same error. Then again on second day it detected and again next time same error. When i'm doing random tasks on the pc the system will stop responding until the drive spins up. Sometimes i will attempt to open an image or video file (even on different drives), the entire system hangs, then you hear the drive click/spin up and then everything is back to normal. The drive also does this when the pc is idle. If the drive is dying, is it worth it to rma? I bought it back in november 2008.

I've just upgraded to vista home premium 64 and my sony dw-q28a dvd-rw drive is not seen as a burner for cds or dvds. So if i right click on it with a re-writable disk in i do not get an 'erase' option, when i right click on a file there's no 'send to>cd' option and in media player when i click onto the burn tab, it tells me to connect a burner and restart!
This drive worked just fine in xp, then i upraded my motherboard to an asus p5e3 and installed vista and now it doesn't! I seem to have everything setup ok in the bios, i've tried re-plugging the ide & power cables and the drive name is read as sony dvd-rw but it won't function at all as a writer. Any ideas?

Liteon Dvd Drive Can't Read Dvd-rw
Pata liteon atapi dvd a dh20a3p can't read dvd-rw yet it can burn data on to them. It can read dvd-r fine and burn on to them. Is there some software missing needed to read dvd-rw or is my drive just not able to read dvd-rw. Edit:-just updated the firmware and it is still unable to read cd-rw discs.

I just bought hitman on dvd and like half way through the movie it got really skippy and eventually froze to where i had to ctrl alt del media player classic. Now it wont even read game discs and i dont see it under my computer. Is it dead or what?
Btw nothing was overheating while watching it and my cpu was at like 3% load.

I have an ibm thinkpad a31 with a dvd rom using win 2000/sp4. The drive will not read dvd copies. It will only acknowledge the original dvd. It does this with memorex, sony and other name brand dvd's. How do i get the dvd rom to read the copies so that i don't have to keep using my originals?

I switched off the power and switch and connected my new ide lg and it got connected and i switched on the power and a screen came saying"reboot and select proper boot device or insert boot media in selected boot device" i pressed the button on the lg drive and it opened but whats the use, it is working but windows doesn't start, so i restarted the pc and went into bios and my master drive which was set to samsung 80 gb hdd was not detected and my slave drive lg dvd drive was not detected either. So to get access to windows i removed the cables connecting the lg drive and now the computer is working fine but plz help me abt my disk drive.

I have a tsst corp cd/dvd ts-h552u dvd rewiter and it had been working fine all day and i was unistalling some software which needed to reeboot my system and when i went to put in a my cd to install new anti virus software (norton 05) i realised windows was not seeing it?

Connect Dvd Drive As External Drive Through Usb Port
I have a sony dvd-rw drive which works fine when plugged directly as an ide drive. I also have an ide-to-usb cable along with an external power supply for ide devices. I want to connect the the dvd-rw drive as an external drive through the usb port. I have windows xp (sp2). When i plug the dvd-rw drive through the usb port, xp complains that "the device cannot be recognized". It shows up in the device manager as an unknown device under usb controllers. I am have a desktop (p4 1. 4ghz, 256mb rd, usb 1. 0) and a laptop (amd turion, 256mb ddr, usb 2. 0)!

Dvd Drive Is Not Reading Any Cd's Or Dvd's
Ok guys for some reason my dvd drive is not reading any cd's or dvd's. This happend right after i installed nero and atempted to burn a dvd, after it stoped responding and i forced shut down the app and then when i started it again and tryed to burn a dvd it kept saying that there was no dvd in the dvd drive when their was. So i'm *** clue less. I have unistalled nero, disabled and enabled the drive, unistalled and reinstalled the drive, check the bios (which detects it as well) and still can not slove this problem. Anyone have any idea of what could be wrong and how to fix it, this is the last place i am turning too to get this fixed. Please.

Hard Drive And Dvd Drive Problem
I am try to connect a 200 gig hard drive to an ide cable that is currently attached to my hp dvd burner. Every time i connect to the ide cable the hard drive it get would be recognize but then my dvd burner would not get detected.

Nothing Starts Up
When i push the power button on my computer they only think that comes on is the motherboard power indicator and the light on the front of the computer. This happened about a week ago when i was playing dod: source, i smelt buring electronics and my computer died. I also had installed 2gb of ram the day before. I've been told many times that it is the psu. I just bought a new one today, installed it and nothing. Although, the fans do jump when i turn it on. Good sign?

Pc No Longer Starts
I use to have a 754 socket asus board in my computer which i recieved from cyberpower systems. The old agp card it came with was unbearable so i ordered a giga-byte board model ga-k8ne and a pcie xfx 7600gt for the time being. Excited i started taking apart the mess cyberpowersystem had done to this case. Hundreds of useless wires eveywhere. So finally i get the new mother board in, to double check i followed the instructions on all the hook ups. Screw it all back in, plug it in, and the press the power button. Nothing. So i double check everything. Looks good. Try it again. Nothing.could this be a dead board? My only concern was that i have a 20 pin power supply rather then 24, but according to the instructions this shouldn't be a problem since i used the the right set for a 20 pin power supply.could anyone else think of what could be wrong? I have emailed giga-byte but new to them so im unsure how long it'll take for an answer.

Computer Starts But Display Does Not Come
I've got what i believe is a serious issue with my rig. Since this morning my rig does not boot properly. When i hit the power button to computer starts as normal, however the display never "unsleeps". Also my modem has a light that indicates pc activity, and this light remains out. This leads me to believe that there is nothing actually going on in the box, just fans/drives spinning. I have checked all the wire conections (internally, and externally) also all fans are spinning including vid card, and the hard drive is spinning also. The dvd drive will open and shut. On startup the machine still dual boots (as i have read is expected for my chipset) so i believe that the mobo is fine. If there is any othe info you need please ask. Rig in sig (q6600).

Alright, computer was working fine went into the other room when i came back the computer screen was black and the desktop sounded like it was still running. Tried to turn the desktop off, but it wouldn't turn off. The computer screen said it was working fine and i needed to check the cable i hooked it up to my laptop and it works fine. When i unplugged the desktop or turned the switch off in the back the computer shuts down. When i plug it back in or switch the power switch on in the back the computer sounds like its turning on the fans and all the lights start and come on. Only thing that doesn't work is the cd drive doesn't open and nothing comes up on the screen. I have had a problem with the power supply before and replaced it. I thought it was the power supply again and just today replaced the power supply again. I still have the same problem. I've read some other posts about similar problems, but they all seemed to be fixed with power supplies. I have also read that i should be able to get to the bios when the computer starts up, but haven't been able to get anywhere. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Pc Starts Up With Black Screen And With No Beep
Every time i turn my computer on it starts up but the screens black and there is no beep. I push restart and it loads up fine. I used to have a faulty graphic card and that would beep twice and stay black. This is different. Anybody know what the problem is?
