Random Bsod
Replies: 19 | Post Date: 04-05-2009, 09:03 PM | User: Master Noran | Forums: hardforum.comI just got a random bsod, didin't get a chance to see what it was about, just a bsod and a restart, this happened when i opened up firefox and was really random. I haven't had a bsod for a week, last one was when i was activating a game on steam, i clicked activate and bam bsod. Last one before was when i connected i disconnected a usb mouse and re connected it, instant bsod. I've checked my memory with vista memory diagnostics tool and it said it was ok. So basically in the month and a half i've had this pc i've had like 5 bsod's (some, i don't remember the reason for) my e7400 is stable at 3. 65, stable as in like 22 hours of prime 95.

Random Reboots With Bsod
This problem started about a month ago i'd say. First off, my system is a dual-boot environment, with my vista partition on my 2 wd raptor drives in a raid0 array on my nvraid controller. My xp partition is on my primary ide driver, and the secondary is a storage drive. I would be playing a game (r6 vegas on vista x64) on a lan with my friend and my computer would randomly reboot. This then turned into a problem where it would do it as soon as i boot into windows vista at all, unless it was in safe mode. After doing multiple reinstalls on the os, and multiple driver updates, vista was finally able to run without problems. Or so i thought. When i try to have vista rate my computer performance, it locks up and sometimes reboots when it gets like, a quarter of the way done. It also crashes when i launch a map in r6. And, even more frustrating, my xp partition (which seemed to be working fine during all this) now crashes when i start r6 on it. I tried running some stress tests today to troubleshoot it. All of these would run fine and pass on their own, a couple would run together (cpu and fpu i remember being one, but memory and storage disks were definitely not able to run together). When i try running 3 or more, i get the same thing. My computer makes this clicking sounds, then i can hear this little whirl sound (assuming its my harddrives) start up right after it does, and it repeats that for a while. Sometimes i get a bsod, with "irql_not_equal_or_less" or something along those lines. Needless to say, i've tried disabling the ide drives (unplugging them and disabling the ide controller in the bios) when i'm trying to get vista to run on my sata. And i've disabled my sata when i try to get xp working on my ide.

Random Sound And Restarts But No Bsod
So my computer had this issue a few days ago where hitting the side of it would cause my computer to restart. I isolated the area to be near my sb and found that any pressure on it (gently flicking the wb with a fingernail) would cause my computer to reboot. I installed a new cpu today and also changed how i screwed down the thumbscrew on the back of my wb. Now, the computer won't restart if that area is pushed on, but i get these random restarts where there are no bsods or anything. I hear a slight fizz/snap/crackle/pop sound right when this happens, too. Anyone have any suggestions of what may be causing this behavior? I'm going to triple-check my connections tomorrow. Build specs:
780i, e8500, 9600gt, 730w psu.

Forefront Bsod - Random Reboots
My datacenter recently set up forefront for our environment. I've rolled out forefront client security to a hand full of work stations and we are seeing random reboots / bsod on the workstations. Most of our workstations that have forefront installed are dell's optiplex 755. Windows xp sp3, office 2007, office communicator. These reboots may happen once a day or multiple times a day. I know if i turn off real time protection we don't have this problem. I have logged a case with microsoft but still don't have a resolution.

Random Bsod Errors - Nvgts.sys
I have recently built a new system using windows xp, and it seems to be getting random bsod errors with a file called 'nvgts.sys'. I am unsure as to what can be causing this problem, most previous threads state problems in booting, yet my computer boots no problem, it just randomly freezes and the bsod appears with reference to that file.

Random Bsod And Red Lines In Mass Effect 2 - 8800gt
Ok so i have had this 8800gt for a while now and had to send it in once to xfx before for random bsods. The problem wasnt as bad when it got back but it was still kinda there. I would get bsods very randomly and sometimes not for weeks. So i just recently got mass effect 2 and loaded it up and played it and it worked fine for a little while (i had a extra stick of ram in there i stole from my wifes comp, but it was causing a lot of bsods so i took it out since i think its bad) and then out of the blue it showed a bunch of red lines on the screen and then the computer shuts off the video and needs to be restarted. So i was wondering if this is a temp issue or what. So i got furmark and have been running it on the extreme gpu burn in or whatever mode its called. My max temps in it are 65 and i havent seen anything higher than that. I have ran memtest for my memory all day before and it never has a problem. Here are my full specs:
Intel e6550
Xfx 8800gt alpha dog
2gb ocz gold ddr2 800
Intel dg33bu motherboard
Antec earthwatts 500w
So i guess my question is, should i just send my card in to xfx for them to take a look at it? My card has a arctic cooler on it with the fans and some custom ram sinks my friend sent me. Here is the link to the ram sinks here not sure how good they are but he owns the site so i will take his word they are good.

Xp Bsod
I've read all the posts i can find on the net about the xp bsod, and can't solve the problem. I'm getting the 0xa and 0x50 errors randomly. Sometimes it lists an ati file as a problem, and sometimes not. I've tried formatting several times, using the outdated drivers that came with the cd, using the new drivers from the ati site. Nothing works. I don't think formatting for a 5th time is going to work.

Bsod
I've been getting a lot of bsods, about once every day. Sometimes it occurred when i was watching something on hulu, majority of the times it crashes when i'm not doing anything (when i go to sleep). I got fed up with it and decided to wipe it and reinstall my os. But now it has been happening even more frequently, about once every hour. I noted the error messages, and i mostly get "system service exception", hexadecimal error # 3b. Sometimes i get "driver_irql_not_less_or_equal". I googled some things but couldn't find any solutions that worked. I tried updating my drivers, uninstalling new programs, ran the windows built in memory diagnostic tool, virus scan. I also ran memtest86 and it came out clean. I'm currently running prime95 but after 6 hours, still no errors. Also, i do plan to upgrade to windows 7 next week, if that is important. Please help me figure out what to do. I can also get the minidmp files after prime95 finishes. I'm using the ultimate boot cd too, so if anyone has any other tests that you think i should run from that, let me know. My specs are
Gigabyte ga-ep45-ud3p
Intel core 2 quad q8400 yorkfield 2. 66ghz
4gb corsair
Western digital caviar black 750gb
Antec 650w
Evga geforce gtx260

Continuous Bsod
So, lately i haven't been able to watch a flash based video online(a la hulu or revision 3) without my computer bsod'ing, and its different almost every time. For awhile the bsod was the one related to drivers(irql not less than or equal. Or something like that), so i tried changing video card drivers, and that didn't do anything. I even tried changing video cards(scrubbing the drivers and then reinstall the proper ones of course), but i continued to get bsod's. A couple of times i got memory_management bsod's so i tried swapping out the memory, but the bsod's continued. I ran memtest and everything was fine. My last thought was that it was the sound driver causing the driver bsod, but i wasn't sure if that were right because i had been using the same sound driver for like a year or so without any problems. Either way i tried disabling the sound and playing a video, but it still bsod'ed. (I only disabled the sound because i didn't want to have to uninstall what i at least think is a perfectly functioning sound driver). I even thought there might be something wrong with my hdd, so i tried running everything off a different drive, but nope, still bsod'ing. Eventually i got tired of it so i wiped the drive. I tried installing w7 in place of xp, but no luck, still bsod'ing while watching flash videos. I even tried installing osx on it, but now that just freezes after watching a few minutes of a flash video. I then tried to reinstall xp, but when the installation gets to the installing devices part, it bsod's with the driver bsod i mentioned earlier. Does anyone happen to know why this is doing what it's doing? The only thing i can think of is that there is a problem with the motherboard drivers or something, but i'm not sure, and before i go out and get a new board(i really hate this one) i'd like to know if that's the actual problem. Ps, another weird thing is that flash youtube videos work fine. I've left a youtube video playing for an hour with no bsod's, but i can't go 15 minutes on hulu, revision3 or megavideo without bsod'ing.

Vista Bsod
I recently started getting bsod crashes with my system and eventually it would not boot at all. I was using winxp pro 32bit . I decided to go with vista ultimate 64 bit when i did the re-install. All of my hardware supports 64bit and vista so i expected smooth sailing. Boy! Was i wrong. This os upgrade was a nightmare. I did get all the drivers installed and i have no hardware conflicts in the device manager. This is where the problems begin and raise my questions. After shutting the pc down and re-starting, i would get a bsod just before vista reaches the spot where you would add your password. I thought it might be bad drivers, so i uninstalled and re-installed them all. I even tried an os re-install. All to no avail. I started removing hardware to see if it may be a bad card or something. All was going well. I finally got to the ram. I went through each stick in each mobo slot and they all booted the system with no problem. I ran memtest86 through 10 passes and the ram passed. This is where i get lost. I placed 2 sticks of ram in the first channel of slots and the system works fine. No more bsod’s at all. I added 1 more stick for a total of three gb’s. No crashes or bsod’s. The system seems to run slower with three gigs rather than two. I add the fourth stick and the system boots up. I have no idea why. I wait for the complete boot and then try to restart. Bsod on re-boot ! I remove 1 stick (doesn’t matter which slot) and the system boots fine. 64 bit systems are supposed to support eight gb’s i thought?
Does anyone have an idea of what else i should try?

Bsod - 0x000000d1
I was on my comp last night, no problems at all. Tried to boot this morning, and i keep getting 0x000000d1 irql_not_less_or_equal, but no particular driver file is identified, so i'm kind of stuck. I can use safe mode, obviously as that's how i'm posting here right now, but normal boots always get the error either at the login screen or shortly after logging in. I've disabled almost everything from my startup group, leaving kaspersky and a few other items. I was suspecting my vid drivers, so i ripped the ati software, but i still got the bsod after rebooting with no vid drivers installed. Any suggestions on what to try next, other than pulling drivers out of my system one by one? I tried sys restoring to a few days ago, when it was working, but no luck there either. Is there any way to read the minidump files and figure out what driver was causing the issue?

Bsod Too Fast To See
Trying to reformat my mates system, but want to exhaust all lines of investigation before i give up on retrieving any data. An xp system, it goes straight to the safe mode choice menu, then when safe mode or last known good config. Are chosen, it displays the xp loading screen for 1-2 secs, then a microsecond of the bsod. I want to know how to see this bsod to get the error message off before i resort to a clean install.

Bsod Windows 7 Help
Ok so it was sunday morning and i turn on my laptop and would you look at that. Cant do anything blue screen. Does anyone know a fix to this? Or can anyone give me some input on the problem. Heres exactly what the screens says. A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer. A process or thread crucial to system operaton has unexpectedly exited or been terminated. Check to make sure any new hardware or software is properly installed. If this is a new installation, ask your hardware or software manufacturer for any windows updates you might need. If problems continue, disable or remove any newly installed hardware or software. Disable bios memory opions such as catching or shadowing. If you need to use safe mode to remove or disable components, restart your computer, press f8 to select advanced startup options, and then select safe mode. Bsod Due To Overheating
Quite often i get the bsod while playing games on my pc, generally the higher the specs the more it crashes. I've taken readings for the temperature for various components while i've been browsing the net etc, well anyway, the 'local' temperature went between 35-51 c, the gpu core from 56-64, and some other readings were:
Tmpin0: 36-69 c
Tmpin1: 34-37 c
Tmpin2: 5-87 c
Do those figures suggest overheating?

Bsod When Capturing Video
I have this easycab usb video grabber i use to capture videos from my ps2. In my main machine(one is sig), i'm having trouble running this device. The instance the video starts capturing, a bsod will immediately come with some sort of error.could this be a hardware conflict? Is it a problem with my mobo? What do you think?

Ipod + Computer = Bsod
I'm recieving a blue screen everytime i plug my ipod in. It does this almost immediately. I am running on a 64-bit vista. I've read and read about itunes' 8 problems and i've updated to the latest *fixed* version. On the bsod it mentions usbport.sys. After a bunch of 0x000000001d(0x0000) type stuff (that's not the actual numbers). Is there someway i can get anything related to itunes off my computer and then just reinstall the latest version or some other work around? I'm really stumped with this one and i really want to update my ipod if there is anything else i need to post, let me know.

7b Stop Error Bsod
Ok, i wanted to reinstall my graphics drivers. So using the ati install manager i express uninstalled everything. Rebooted, and now i'm stuck with a 7b stop error bsod on every boot. Safe mode or normal boot, doesn't matter, same error. I've done some googling and it seems to relate to the boot devices. I can only assume that the ati install manager stupidly uninstalled my raid driver. Unfortunately, all the information i can find relates to installs and upgrades, and to ahci and i can't find anything to tell me how to fix this.

Bsod At Windows Splash
I recently set up a rig, but every time i run my computer in normal mode, it bsod and restarts. However, i can run it in safe mode. Can you guys help me check for compatibility issues or if there is a problem with the ahrdware. At first i thought ram was an issu. But it seems that 4gb is read in the bios and 3. 50gb is read on system specs in safe mode.

Which hardware could be causing it and does anyone have any solution ?
My computer also froze ones a few days ago. Normally my computer is very compliant but now i've gotten two errors this week. It feels like something is going on !

Bsod Tracking Down Errors
I've been getting regular bsod's while gaming lately, and their cause has been rather difficult to track down. I was hoping i could get some ideas on what else to try. I can't really reproduce them on demand, as it can happen anywhere between 30 minutes into gaming to several hours. The specific blue screen errors have to do with either "irql_not_less_or_equal" or "driver_irql_not_less_or_equal" and bluescreenview shows them being caused by any of hal.dll, watchdog.sys, or ndis.sys. It's pretty fair to rule out temperature, as all temps are very low. I've tried reducing gpu clock speed significantly (up to 30% reduction didn't help), increasing ram voltage from 1. 8 to 1. 9, . Simple gpu stress tests (like in steam games) don't trigger the bsod, running memtest for several hours reveals nothing, updated drivers and bios on all, voltages don't look out of whack. Basically i'm out of ideas, and looking for help. I feel like i've looked into the obvious stuff. Specs are:
Mobo: asus p5q (intel chipset)
Cpu: intel q6600
Gpu: bfg gtx260 oc maxcore 55
Ram: corsair xms2 ddr2 2x2gb @ 5-5-5-18 (stock)
Psu: seasonic m12 ss-600hm 600w

Hd4770 + Catalyst 9.5 = Bsod
Was getting lockups after messing with the ccc from the drivers off the xfx driver disc. I heard catalyst 9. 5 supported hd4770. I checked ati's website. I also checked xfx's website. Sure enough, they say it's alright. Install. Reboot. Windows xp loading screen. Finishes. Bsod! Every single time. Error in atikvmag.dll - address bf1177e9 base at bf100000, datestamp 49f7abc. Etc. The cool thing about it is that the installer for the drivers won't install in xp's safe mode because "setup did not find a driver compatible with your current hardware. " No ***. It's safe mode. I can probably use drive cleaner to remove it to be able to boot and install the 9. 4 hacked drivers from the xfx cd, but i would prefer to use a stable driver. Any ideas?

Bsod On Whs Install
I just started my whs box (only 7. 5 tb won't make the thread =). Got it all put together and i am using a 1. 5tb wd green as the os drive. The install goes fine off the dvd then when it reboots and finished the install off the hd i get a bsod telling me to run a chdsk /f - i have tried different sata ports and no fix. I'm waiting on the other 4 hd's to show up so i can try making one of those the os drive. But until they do does anyone have any ideas?

Forced Reboot W/o Bsod
I just built a new system with a core i7 920, evga x58 sli le, 3x2gb corsair xms3 1600 8-8-8-24, corsair 750tx, and a reused geforce 8600gt. I am using the windows 7 enterprise trial. Under normal use everything has been fine, but i haven't loaded any of my more stressful software (cs4) onto the system yet. Last night, i ran prime95, and it crashed after a little over 2 hours. The event log says, "the previous system shutdown at 7:57:34 am was unexpected. " It appears there was no bsod error or memory dump when it happened. Prime95 also listed no failures. Today, i reran the specific test prime95 was on, and it passed without a problem. Then i decided to run the windows experience index test since i hadn't yet on my new system. During the cpu test, my monitor went into standby, and the next thing i saw was post. Again, no bsod, no memory dump, and the event viewer just said, "the previous system shutdown at 4:36:48 pm was unexpected. "
I haven't oced anything yet, just using stock speeds, stock voltage, and the stock cooler. When running prime95, the highest temp my cpu reached was 60c, at which point my fans kicked in to full voltage, and it dropped to 58c and stayed there. During the windows experience index test, my cpu never reached 100%, and the temps were lower as well. Is there anything i can do to isolate the problem, and have some real information to determine what i need to return to microcenter for a replacement? I don't plan to oc for a bit, but i'd like to be able to, and that won't be happening on a system that isn't stable at stock. I've been checking my temps by the led on my motherboard, the documentation says that it is a cpu temp, but it is idling around 28c, which is only slightly above the ambient temp of my room, which leaves me questioning it a bit.

Bsod - Hdd Failure
I'm running xp pro sp3. I can't remember the last time i've installed new hardware or software. Out of the blue the other day, i noticed foobar2k wasn't reading some of my music off my drive. I checked the files themselves on the 500 gb, and when clicking on the folder received a message to the effect that the files were not accessible. Found that kind of alarming. Then later in the day, experienced my first crash. Just a complete as-is freeze up with stuttering audio that never budged even after about a 30 minute wait-out. Rebooted and chkdsk popped up for the 500 gb drive. I figured as much. However, chkdsk would repeatedly fail to complete. I used another utility, spinrite, directly off a boot disc. Without even being in windows, it still froze about ten minutes into it. At this point i basically could not keep my computer up and running without it soon crashing. I pulled the 500 gb drive to just give up for now. Everything seems like it is running more or less stable with just the raptor. But then, i decided to usb transfer some of my music to the raptor from my blackberry (setup to act as a flash drive). Within about 30 seconds i got my first ever bsod on this machine. 0x0000008e (0xc000001d, 0xbf852646, 0xac387698, 0x00000000)
Win32k.sys - address bf852646 base at bf800000 datestamp 48025f2a
Anyone have any idea what could be going on? Google results for the stop code gave vague suggestions at best. I really don't even know where to begin!

Ctaud2k.sys Bsod
This doesn't seem to be an isolated problem but everything i untick "use system driver" under audio in games that use the ut04 engine the game will crash after a few minutes if not right away. When i do use the "use system driver" the games don't crash but i lose my 5. 1 and eax. Anyone else run across this? Figured i would start here since creative seems to be very unresponsive other peoples questions i have found.

2001 Gateway Bsod
Somebody handed me a computer today b/c they said as far as they knew "it hasn't worked in years. So i was wondering what i can do to make this "hunk of junk" work again. From what i have gathered it was built in 2001 and is a gateway w/ a celeron in it. It has a 20gig wd hdd and an impressive 128mb of ram. The case size is about the size of a frickn laptop. One cd-rom and one floppy. Anyways when it boots up it takes you to the gateway screen and then it attempts to boot windows. After a brief second it takes you to advanced setup and no matter what you pick it hits you with a face full of blue. I first attempted to go through bios and see what options there are. Well it did not take long cause it' very basic. I then cleared cmos in hopes that the default settings would boot it up. Nothing. I happened to have a pair of pc133 laying around so i stuck them in just out of desperation, well now it would by pass the advanced settings and go straight to the bsblabla at this point i figured that i would take out the hdd and put in an old ibm aptiva and see if i could reformat the drive and got the same message any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Bsod With Stop 0x9c
Just thought i might get some ideas here, just got an amd 64 3000+ and chaintek mobo vnf3-250. I used my other existing parts, 120 gig hdd, 330w psu, pny 6800gt, 1 gig of pny gamer ram. So, system was running fine until this morn i get a bsod with stop 0x9c. And, i know this one is generally not a good thing. So, i think it may be lack of power as my gpu requires a 300w by itself. Doubt it's the mobo. Dunno, just wanted your guys' input.

Bsod - Computer Restarting By Itself
I got a intel celeron@1. 8ghz, a 350w power supply , a radeon9200se, 1, 5 giga kingston rams:1 giga+256 +256, 200giga western digital hard drive. Before i bought the 1 giga ram it was everything fine, now my computer crashes all the time, when i'm listening to music or for example playing most wanted, i've had tested the new rams they are working fine without problems and the computer still crashes, could the problem be the power supply?
Ohh i almost forgot, sometimes it is restarting by itself, closing applications, or it is shutting down by itself.could be the psu the problem?
