Computer System Year Resets To Year 2000 On Every Reboot
I have a funny problem on my laptop. Quite often when i reboot, the year resets to the year 2000. I would have said it was the cmos battery gone flat, but the date remains the same except the year. Eg just now it reverted to 3rd july 2000, the laptop details can be seen in my signature. It happens in slackware aswell as windows, so i know for once it's not windows messing up my computer.

Laptop Reboot Itself - Vista Starts Shutting Down
I have valuable pictures and videos on my compaq laptop and now it wont turn on! Its starts to boot windows vista home basic and it even goes to the advanced boot options page, but no matter what i pick from the menu it goes to start up and right as windows vista starts booting it says "shutting down"! After that is just keeps making the start up jingle and it keeps attempting to reboot in its own, i dont know what else to do but i have lost so much sleep over this because this computer has very priceless pictures and videos on it. I have a new laptop now and i want to throw this one away i just want my pictures!

Computer Is Shutting Off During The Windows Load Screen
So i ended up upgrading to an amd x2 6000 and getting an hd4850 as well. Windows 7 was also installed by a friend on my computer. However, my computer is shutting off during the windows load screen at the same time, like right after the windows colors icon forms together and glows or whatever. I have an antec 650w truepower power supply that is maybe 3 years old at the most. Also, i have been monitoring the watts and they are all stable and all less than . 20 different than the norm or whatever each thing is supposed to be.could the ram i bought be bad and is shutting down the computer? Temperatures are all fine as well. I just find it weird that it turns off during the exact same time but will sometimes randomly let me get to windows if i keep trying. A fast response would be appreciated, especially if it is possibly bad ram since i think the last day to exchange it at frys is today for me.

Computer Freezes On Boot - Long Time To Load Windows
I was having issues with a game of mine hard locking my pc. The only way to get out of it was to hold down the power button and force the pc to power down, then boot back up. Trying to trouble shoot the game, this happened several times. Then, it started freezing on the memory test. It's not really freezing, though - if i leave it sit for a very long time ( 5 to ten minutes ), it will eventually boot into windows. Any ideas?

What Is The Fastest Windows 2000 Hardware Available ?
From what i can see, i could sli 7950 cards on a nforce 570-based motherboard with an early model core 2 duo proc and 3gb of ram (edit: looks like intel-based nforce 500-series motherboards are near impossible to find. Nforce 6-series would work but i think those are junk and would rather avoid them. 680i might work i guess). I have an unused copy of win2k pro and when i used it to diagnose one of my latest builds (motherboard was wonky) it was blazing fast. I mean crazy-ridiculous fast. That motherboard and gpu didn't have any drivers available for win2k though, so now i'm wondering if i could make a nice budget build with older parts and get a blazing fast system using win2k. On top of that, will many games work? Should i use it as a media center/file server? It's been a long time since i used win2k too much, and i'll admit my memory is the suck. Is this a good idea or am i a being a loony?

Windows 2000 Not Recognizing Proper Hd Size
My previous wd hd failed, and got a replacement from dell today, a 250 gb one. Even though my bios is quite happy to acknowledge that it's 250, my windows 2k isn't, nor is the fdisk from my diagnostics boot cd or my partition magic. They all claim it's 127 gb, and as such i can only create a 127 gb partition of of it. Does anyone know about this kind of problem or even a solution to it?

Windows 2000 Professional Network Bridging
I have a system with win2k but i don't know how to have two nics run under the system and both to have an internet connection. I have a usb wireless adapter and a wired netgear nic installed, but unlike windows xp pro, win2k wasn't blessed with network bridging so i was wondering if there is a way to get the same result under win2k, perhaps with some ip configuring?

Pc Starts To Boot And Freezes Before Windows
I turned on the pc and the "intel desktop boards" screen appears. And that is it! Usually that would flash and the next screen would be detecting my ide card and recognizing the hard drives but it doesnt even get there. The screen that it is stuck on shows the processor speed, how much ram, and that the keyboard, mouse, and the usb legacy is enabled. The bottom says hit f2 to run set up and f12 if you want to boot from network. I can not get into the bios. The most i made it do was get it to say "entering setup" by hitting f2 as soon as the page came up. But it never goes anywhere after that. Frozen! Any advise would be greatly appreciated. I am not a computer wiz, just a long time tinkerer. I have built 2 or 3 in my lifetime and have just basic knowledge.

Mouse And Keyboard Freeze When Windows Xp Starts Up
Sometimes when windows xp professional starts up on my computer, the mouse will not work properly. It is just frozen at the welcome screen. However, i can still use the keyboard to login. The mouse is a ps/2 mouse. After windows finishes login in and shows the desktop, the mouse is still frozen. Sometimes the mouse will function properly on the welcome screen. However when my computer enters standby mode the mouse and keyboard are both usually frozen when i try to bring the computer out of standby mode and the computer is unresponsive. I think this has also happened after a few minutes of not using the computer while the computer was running.

Dvd Drive Works Until Windows Starts
Recently i connected my hd into other pc then i connected it back on my pc but now i'm having a hard time to make my dvd drive work, i never had problems before and it was working fine. This is what happens: when i turn on the pc, the dvd led flashes and everything, i can open and close the tray without problems. The dvd drive is showed in the bios too. But as soon as windows xp starts loading the dvd drive wont work, with this i mean it wont even open the tray. Once windows has started its the same. It looks like the drive is detected because under device manager it shows this: "dvd-rom scsi cdrom device", and my other cd drive is listed too. But when i try to access it, i get a "please insert a disk into drive e:" eventho i already have a disc there. If i try to eject it using windows nothing happens. This is how i have my connections:
(Got primary and secundary ide enabled in bios)
Primary ide: master is my hd
Primary ide: slave is cd-rom drive
Secundary ide: master is dvd drive (the one with problems)
Secundary ide: slave = nothing
Already tried swapping the dvd-drive to primary ide as slave but it happens exactly the same. Im so confused, why would it work before windows starts to load, but wont work after? What do you recommend me to do? Im out of ideas, do you think its the drive jumpers? Or something related to windows? Should i reinstall?

Recover Files From Laptop Hard Drive With Windows 2000
Boss at work has managed to crash his laptop and of course has not done a backup in 3 years, now he wants me to try and recover some of his files. This is a windows 2000 system and what it is doing is coming up with the following message on boot up. A disk read error occurred
Press ctrl+alt+del to restart
Now i thought maybe the system files where corrupted, we got one of these fix your disk programs and tried running it, it says that both the partition table and boot sector are ok so no joy there, had a look on this forum and found a thread with link to ntfs4dos and ran that, it says the nt ntfs partition is not initialized. Finally tried coping on the system files again using the windows 2000 repair option still no joy. Does anyone have any other ideas i can try, can i some how link the hard drive via a converter cable to my desk top (maybe a stupid question, but hay i'm clutching at straws), or do i just send it back and tell him that it will cost £350 to get the files and here is an essay on the virtues of keeping backups. (Probably won't do last bit as end up getting fired).

The lights and stuff work when i plug it in, but i have to have windows run for 7 minutes for the regular keys to start working. Unable To Load Windows, Partial New Install
During bootup, case lights come on, including blue cathodes, fans, etc, i get no beep codes, the screen initially flashes the indentity of the vid card installed, then goes to intell splash page, then to the unable to load windows screen with many options such as boot in normal mode, safe mode, etc.computer specifications:
Mobo - intel 865perl (new)
Cpu - intel p4 2. 4c boxed (new)
Memory- corsair 3200 ddr 1024mb twinx dual channel (new) (1 stick each installed in channel a raid 0, channel b raid 0). Video - gainward geforce fx5600 128mb ddr, ultra 760 tv/dvi. (New). Hard drive - wd 40gb
Power supply - icute 430watt (new). Only things on mobo right now are cpu, mem, video card. Board has current bios (verified on intel site). In bios, verified cpu, memory, etc. I've had problems with "no signal" on other builds, but those were memory problems. The twin corsair sticks are installed properly, 1 in channel a raid0 and the other in channel b raid0. The bios recognizes them (1024mb) as well. Any ideas on why i can't get the os to load?

Laptop Won't Load Windows Xp
Yesterday i dropped my laptop (ah!) On a hardwood floor. I have a toshiba satellite m100/m105. As soon as it dropped the screen went black and basically the power to it went out. This worried me, but then i just pressed the power button on the computer and it restarted and seemed to work fine! Until i restarted my computer again today because the internet was locked up. Anyway, so i restarted and a black screen came up that said windows was unable to load correctly and to run windows as normal, run in safe mode, run how it was run last time it run correctly, etc. And i chose each of these options at least once and each time it brought me back to the same black screen. I'm not sure if it is a software or hardware issue or if it even has anything to do with me dropping my laptop yesterday. Does any one know what i should do? Should i check to see if it's hardware related before i run a system repair? Should i bring it in to a professional and have them look to see if it's a hardware problem or is there a way i could check for "lose connections"?

Computer Starts But Display Does Not Come
I've got what i believe is a serious issue with my rig. Since this morning my rig does not boot properly. When i hit the power button to computer starts as normal, however the display never "unsleeps". Also my modem has a light that indicates pc activity, and this light remains out. This leads me to believe that there is nothing actually going on in the box, just fans/drives spinning. I have checked all the wire conections (internally, and externally) also all fans are spinning including vid card, and the hard drive is spinning also. The dvd drive will open and shut. On startup the machine still dual boots (as i have read is expected for my chipset) so i believe that the mobo is fine. If there is any othe info you need please ask. Rig in sig (q6600).

Computer Starts Up But Only Get To The Bios
Alright, computer was working fine went into the other room when i came back the computer screen was black and the desktop sounded like it was still running. Tried to turn the desktop off, but it wouldn't turn off. The computer screen said it was working fine and i needed to check the cable i hooked it up to my laptop and it works fine. When i unplugged the desktop or turned the switch off in the back the computer shuts down. When i plug it back in or switch the power switch on in the back the computer sounds like its turning on the fans and all the lights start and come on. Only thing that doesn't work is the cd drive doesn't open and nothing comes up on the screen. I have had a problem with the power supply before and replaced it. I thought it was the power supply again and just today replaced the power supply again. I still have the same problem. I've read some other posts about similar problems, but they all seemed to be fixed with power supplies. I have also read that i should be able to get to the bios when the computer starts up, but haven't been able to get anywhere. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Windows Randomly Lock Up, Act As If Cpu Is Under 100% Load
I'll spare you the details, but my machine has become unstable recently. I was overclocking recently but one of these issues persisted before the oc. Since it's got weird my pc has gone back to stock settings which haven't fixed anything. Windows will randomly lock up, and act as if the cpu is under 100% load. It isn't. The pc will now poweroff after shutdown. The monitor switches off but the power/fan run to the cpu. When trying to image my c: drive to a backup it will always fail. I got a bsod last night trying this. I've ran chkdsk a few times and everytime it has found and "repaired" bad sectors. I booted into ms memory ram checker, no errors, the comp can still play games fine when i first boot up, it's afterwards thing get flaky, my os hard drive is pretty old, which is why i targeted that first. I've seen some abnormal temps coming from there in the past. How do i test psu to elimate that from the equation?

Video Card Beep Error - Windows Fails To Load
Last night my comp was making a loud beeping noise and it turned out to be my video card. So i boot it up, get all the screens and it eventually hits the windows screen with the options of safe mode, last known configuration that worked, and run windows normally. The problem is no matter which one i pick (done them all several times) it always does the same thing. The window logo screen loads where the little blue bar travels across below the logo usually meaning windows is starting up, but everytime it has that screen for about 15 seconds then a quick flash of the blue screen of death and my computer resets and does the whole process again?

Keyboard Does Not Respond When Computer Starts Booting
When i boot the lights on the keyboard flash, but once the computer starts booting, the keyboard does not respond. It often just gets cut of in the windows as well. When this happens i just unplug the keyboard and plug it back in. It usually works within few attempts but at times it does not work at all. So i have to restart few times and play around until it does. I tried a different keyboard and everything, but nothing helps.

Cpu 2.93ghz Seen As 2.2ghz On Computer Starts
I am building a testing server, and i installed a soyo p4vte socket 478 motherboard and intel celeron d 340 2. 93ghz processor - when i start the computer the cpu is read at 2. 20ghz. I'm not sure why it say this. I looked in the motherboard manual and it speaks of cpu clock frequency. I believe its currently set at 100, but it can be 133 or 200m. Is this why i'm having this problem?
The memory is 512mb pc3200 ddr 400mhz cl3. If someone know whats going on, please let me know.

Also tried to copy this dnsapi.dll file from a dos boot but it couldn't find the c:! If my computer says it can't find hd, but it's getting past the xp splash screen, i'm so perplexed.

Install New Ram, Computer Starts Loading Up Very Slowly
My computer has one stick pc2700 512mb and one stick pc2100 256mb. Total of two slots for memory. Today i bought a stick of pc2700 512mb ram to replace the pc2100 256mb one with. I installed it in my computer, and switched it on. For about thirty seconds after booting, everything was fine. The memory showed up under the "my computer" information window and everything. Then, everything went haywire. The computer started loading things up very slowly, taking several seconds to open/close windows, call up the start menu, and so on. Eventually it simply froze (mouse still moving, but no clicks having any effect). I switched it off then back on, and it got through the windows xp loading screen then before the login menu just froze to a black screen. Switched off then back on again, started in safe mode, and got to the login screen, but upon logging in, was told explorer.exe had encountered an error and was being closed, so, no desktop. I was looking in the ctrl-alt-delete window for the "run programs" button (i thought i remembered there being one there) when the computer spontaneously reset itself. After the winxp login screen, it flashed a bunch of text for a split second and spontaneously reset itself again. At this point i shut it off, took the new ram out, put the old ram back in, literally shaking with nervous tension as i switched it back on. Well, i'm now typing this email from the computer i'm talking about, so as you can see, everything turned out okay. What do you think the problem was? I suspect it was a wattage problem. Does this sound accurate to you guys? (Old computer. 250 watt power supply. )
Taking a look, installation of a new power supply looks actually kind of complicated. It looks like i"m going to have to unhook everything inside my machine. I am not at all mechanically inclined, so this is not an inviting prospect. So if there are any other theories/suggestions how to fix this, i would be quite grateful.could it just be the fact that i'm mismatching brands of ram? Someone told me that's not ideal-but it's not that bad to do so, is it?
(Also, btw, do you think i'll see any performance gain in games by (as i tried to do) moving my ram from pc2100 (266mhz) to pc2700 (333mhz) and adding 256mb? Or would it be undetectable?)
Configurations:-
Amd athlon 2000+
Geforce fx5700le
768mb pc2100 ram
