Constant Loud Humming Noise On Boot Up

I hooked up an older desktop computer and powered it on. It powers up but it does not boot up, the screen shows no signal (amber/yellow light, not green). And there is a constant loud humming noise (not "beep, beep, beep" but like "beeeepppp. ")

I am pretty sure it's not a fan making the noise, but some kind of error code. All fans come on and stay on, no dust inside, the mouse shows it has power, but the keyboard does not have any power (no lights). I tried plugging things in different usb ports and other ports on the back of the case and using wireless and non-wireless mouses and keyboards, still same problems. And yes all the same hook ups i am using (mouse, keyboard, monitor, etc. ) Worked fine on this comp. Before

Also computer makes a little quieter hum when just plugging power supply cord into outlet without even powering it on. I don't know much about computers so can anyone tell me whats wrong here?

Hp Computer Loud Noise / Sounds

I have a hp computer that started making a loud racing noise. The noise comes and goes, it sounds like a jet. ? The noise also changes or revs up and down. After a couple of min. The computer shuts off. Now it says there is a start up problem and says windows cannot fix the problem over the internet. I blew the dust out and checked the fan and it turns free. Any ideas what might be wrong?

Electrical Noise / Squeal, Is This Normal ?

When playing 3d games (especially when "calculating shadows" in trackmania) or even minimizing/maximizing windows, i can hear a noise/squeal coming from the pc. On closer inspection it seems to come from both the graphics card and the psu. It's not very loud (as in quiet) but noticable. So the question, is this normal?

Echoing / Loud Noise On Skype Call

Ok guys i been pulling my hair out on trying to fix this for the longest time, i've tried everything to messing with my audio settings and my friends settings. To getting different mics / using a different call program. The problem is i'll hear my self echo with a loud strange noise at random times (usually within 2-5mins it will start happening) if i tap on my mic about 6-7 times it will make it go away only to repeat 5 mins later. For the first few minutes the call is perfect no echos no noises or anything. I use headphones to hear audio and use a mic to talk that's plugged into my laptop. My friend uses a headset and is also using a laptop. I wouldn't think the problem would be coming from my friend because he doesn't have the same problem as me.

Power Supply Made A Loud Pop Noise

Silverstone st75f power supply. I went to sleep, woke up, the computer was off. I tried to turn it back on, unplugged the psu, power button, etc, nothing worked. Then the power supply made a loud pop noise with a giant spark. I pulled it out and its dripping a whitish liquid. Anyone ever seen anything like this?

Lite-on Dual Layer Dvd-rw, Incredibly Loud Noise

I'm really disappointed in the noise level of this drive. I have 3 case fans, a pci slot-fan, an enormous heatsink fan, and the case is whisper quiet. Then along comes this drive, when it spins up there's the standard cd whirring noise, but it's also accompanied by a vibration noise, and once it's spinning at full speed a high subtle (but annoyingly noticeable) high pitched whine. Is this drive, or dvd-rws in general known for being particularly loud? If not, is there something i can do to try and bring this problem in check? It's really a sore spot on what is otherwise a flawless new system.

Computer Is Making An Annoying Whirring Sound

I got my new computer up and running and while i really like it, there's a very annoying "whirr" sound. I can't tell where exactly it's from, i have 3 fans installed, and an arctic cooling freezer pro 7, however could it also be coming from the hd?

Pc Will Not Boot, No Post Beep

My wife and i have matching custom built pc's. Recently the liquid cooling system in her pc needed to be flushed and refilled. I removed the mobo from the computer, pulled the cooling system from the cpu, flushed and refilled, cleaned and prepped both heatsink and cpu and applied new thermal compound, reassembled the system and turned it on. First time after flush it ran fine for about 10 minutes, then shut down normally (on it's own). Since then it has not booted properly. The indicator light on the mobo is illuminated, showing that there is power. Upon pressing the pwr switch, all devices begin to run, all fans, drives, and keyboard/mouse turn on, but the bios never starts to boot, and no post beep sounds. I am thinking that it is most likely the mobo or cpu but was hoping that someone could post an alternative here that i could try before shelling out the $200-$300 for replacement parts as everything is past warranty (by like 3 months).

Single Beep On One Boot

Alright. I was playing around in the bios and i selected a fsb setting of 166 and rebooted. Blank screen, no boot. Nothing. So, as in previous instances of this i cleared the cmos by the jumper on my soltek sl-75frn2 and held the insert key as i powered on. Nothing. No go. The cd-rom reads, but doesn't do anything else. The hdd light comes on for about 20 seconds and disapears. I heard a single beep on one boot, that is all. I have unseated the memory and videocard independently to see if i would get a beep but there were no such instances.

No Complete Boot, No Beep, Or Monitor Signal

The symptoms for my pc are as follows:

1. Pc receives power (as indicated by fan and powersupply light)
2. Pc does not output signal to monitor (verified functioning monitor and cable). 3. Analog, laser-mouse does not receive power consistently from pc. Laser-light turns on for a fraction of a second upon connecting the mouse to the pc, but then remains off after the mouse is firmly fixed into analog mouse-port. 4. Usb, laser-mouse does receive power from pc when plugged into usb port. 5. Pc does not make any beeping sounds whatsoever upon attempted boot. My request: please advise as to what troubleshooting methods i could use. Do these clues provide any insight into what may be wrong with the pc already?

Asus A8n-e Boot Problem (beep Error Code)

I've been running xp on a asus a8n-e motherboard for a good while without any problems. The other day i replaced my hiper type r 580w psu with a corsair hx 520w, and now the pc won't boot and beeps 1 long followed by 3 short. I've stripped it down to bare essentials (motherboard, vc, memory and cpu) but i get the same problem. The problem also persist when i reconnect the hiper psu. 1. Reseating everything. 2. Using any possible combination of memory stick(s) and slots. 3. Resetting the cmos. The rest of the pc is as per sig, with the exception for vista which will be installed when (if!?) I can sort this.

Computer Beep Then Freeze

My friends computer is acting weird. He says this happens on the net more than anything. He'll be surfing and then the computer gives out a single beep and then freezes. He has to shut it down and reboot and then its fine for awhile. But usually happens again in a hour or so. He's on dial-up if that makes a difference.could it be overheating? Some feedback would be appreciated. He says it happens mostly on the net but has happened during normal use.

Computer Freezes, Then Long Beep

Often when i boot my computer, usualy the first time in the day or whatever, after 10-20-30 minutes of use it will act a little bit funny. First of all, when i right click the desktop, the menu will only half appear. Sort of semi transparent. Then a few seconds later, everything freezes, and i get a long beep until i restart. Then everything seems fine again?

Im thinking it could be a power-supply issue. Im pushing it a little bit with 380w and my set up i feel, but does anyone have any other ideas? What could the long beep mean? I also think it could be dodgy ram. Ill give more details if needs be, i just thought i'd post in case anyone had some ideas.

Computer Freezing Post Beep

My pc sometimes won't load on after pressing the power on button. Ctrl alt del doesn't help, but resetting the computer does help whereupon the computer loads on as it supposed to. The moments enduring this error the display on the screen isn't turned on at all. All you hear are the fans rotating, additionally the traffic led stays on. The computer isn't encountering the post beep. I would say that this error happens randomly to a scale of 1:6. On several forums i read that this could have to do with a lot of things, mainly on the hardware side, like an overheated processor, video card or even a psu transferring too much voltage. Please tell me how to forestall freezing my pc?

Computer Is Dead, It Doesn't Even Beep Once

I turned on my computer and everything worked normally. Xp booted, internet worked everything. I then left my computer and came back to it about 10 minutes later to find a stop warning. I can't remember it exactly but it was something like driver_irq_not_equal_or_less. So i rebooted to find nothing happened, apart from the fan came on inside the case. The moitor acts as if the computer is switched off (it says check cable - no signal). I've opened it up and made sure everything was in properly and it is. The fact that the computer doesn't even beep once when i switch it on (like normally), or a few times for a diagnostic error isn't very reassuring, and i have a horrid feeling the bios is corrupt. Thankfully all the components are still under warranty, although knowing watford electronics reputation i might get no response. Does anyone think this sounds like a faulty bios or could it be something else?

No Display, Computer Freezes, Long Beep

I've tried to troubleshoot my way through this, but find myself too frustrated with my own machine to think straight. Any help would be greatly appreciated. The problem started with my monitor (seemingly at random) going into power saving mode. I wouldn't be able to bring it back out of power saving mode without doing a complete restart of my system. I suspected either the video card (ati radeon x1300 w/256mb) or the monitor (lg lcd). I tried a different monitor and had the same problem. I tried switching the connection from dvi to vga. Still, the same problem. Definitely the video card. Except now i'm not so sure. I just fired it up again and opened the web browser, only to have the whole computer freeze up on me (i could move the mouse, but that was all. Clicking and keyboard commands were completely useless) and then my display went dead black, without even the warning about power saving mode. The computer appeared to still be running, though. The lights were on, and i could hear fan noise. So, i powered down, waited 5, then powered back on and attempted to login as admin in safe mode. Windows didn't even finish booting this time before it froze. There was also a long, continuous beep coming from within the case. The screen went dead again, the beep continued, and the computer still seemed to be running. I powered down, waited another 5, then powered back on one last time. This time, though, the screen wouldn't come on at all. The computer, though, did again seem to be running (lights, fan noise, etc). If not for the freezing and the long beep, i'd still suspect the video card, but now i'm not so sure. Does anyone have any ideas or suggestions?

Computer Makes Clicking Noise - No Output To Monitor

I moved my computer in its original shipping box & styrofoam. It experienced freezing weather inside a moving truck along with everything else, and then spent a month in climate controlled storage upon arrival (from florida to nebraska). The pc was built by all american computers just before the company folded. It is a "purexs. "

I took it out and found the floppy drive was loose inside of it. Naturally, that concerned me. I had completely forgotten that when i installed it i didn't put screws in, just used the finger-tightness of the bay. It was secure enough to not move as i packed it, but apparently not secure enough for the long haul. I plugged everything in (dual dvi ports to the two ati x1900 xt's, power cable, mouse & keyboard) that it required to boot and powered it on. The fans all power on, and the 1st videocard fan cools down a bit as it's supposed to, but immediately there is a light clicking noise, quite rapid. The whole system lights up but the lcd monitor never registers any output - the light stays orange. The noise appears to be coming from the back of the motherboard near the power supply, which is actually inverted at the bottom of the case (due to the lian-li case's air circulation system). I slowed the back fan and tapped the cpu fan to see if that interrupted the noise at all, and it didn't. Yes, i know that's dangerous, but i've worked with plenty of computers - i don't hold the fan down a whole second, just slow it for less than a second - enough time to hear any change in the noise. While i'm a junior level pc & network technician (by trade i'm a web programmer and graphic designer - yes i draw freehand), at my old job i had tons of parts (not the caliber that is in this pc) and just swap out what's broken for what isn't, and in the worst case, repeat this several times until i find the offending part (usually i can tell).

Computer Makes High Pitched Ringing Noise

I am extremely sensitive to high pitched noises, and my computer has started making one that is driving me insane. It is very slight, and i can only hear it from certain angles, but it is defiantly there and it will not go away. What i have tried:

- Restarting the machine (the sound went away when it turned off)

- Blocking every fan for a few seconds to see if they were making the noise (they are not)

- Tried listening for the sound with a tube to isolate the part making it (didn't help since tubes don't bounce sound very well) though i did find which area the component is in. I believe it is a part on the board making this noise, and that is making me even angrier since i do not understand how or why a part on the board can generate such a sound. Can anyone assist me in fixing this, i know there was another person who had this issue before, but his went away magically. Hopefully mine does too, but i wouldn't count on it. If it matters, i am using a foxconn blackops board.

Computer Doesn't Beep When Turned On, No Display

I use my computer to record music with. In the midst of running cubase i got a blue screen error message saying that i should restart the computer. The soft power did not work. I turned it off and about an hour later powered on again. It seemed to be running fine except that after 30 seconds it shut off. Now when i try to turn it on there is no beeps. The fans run and there is a yellow led light that comes on. It sounds as if the harddrive is spinning and the cd/dvd drive also is spinning as i tried to boot from windows with no luck. I can't even get to bios. Today i disconnected the sound card the hard drive and the cd drive and attempted to boot up. Same thing. Fans spin but no beeps. Either the power supply, don't really think so, cpu or motherboard. Does this seem a fair assessment? Also cleaned out the dust. Only thing i haven't tried is crossing the cmos jumpers but i did take the bios battery out for like ten minutes. Same thing as crossing the jumpers?

Specs are:-

Western digital 80 gb 7200 rpm ata 100 hard drive
Intel p4 2. 4 6hz
Gigabyte rz series motherboard. 8s648fx-rzc
1 512 mb ddr 400 pc 3200 kingston ram. Sound card - emu 1820
Windows xp home edition. Radeon 7000 video card

Computer Turns On, But Monitor Shows Nothing And Mobo Doesn't Beep

Last night i got on my comp and it loaded just fine. After about 20 minutes of use it turned off. I've had random restarts before, but it just shut off, so i turned it back on and here i am now. The cd rom lights came on, all the fans in the computer spin (as well as the graphics card fan), and the mobo power light turns on. The monitor shows nothing at all (no load screen, no bios, nothing), the mobo does not beep, the restart button does not work, and when i power down the system and press any key on the keyboard the system will power back up (but once again, not load at all). I've tried switching the ram in every possible slot combination, but i'm just stuck now.

Laptop ( Cpu ) Fan Gets Really Loud

Bought this laptop about 9 months ago, and itís been perfect until recently. Every now and then, when i power up, the cpu fan goes crazy (i think itís the cpu fan ?). It gets really loud and stuff during the bios checks and stays loud. When i eventually get into windows, the applications in startup take ages to load, and some donít load at all, because one gets stuck or something. Itís really weird. Everything goes back to normal on the first or second reboot.

Extremely Loud Laptop Fan

I own a sony vaio sz340p, and i have notice that the fan has gotten much, much louder over the course of the last 4 or 5 months or so. I clean out the fan/heatsink regularly with compressed air and alcohol solution, so i don't think dust is the problem. It seems more likely to me that the ball bearings to the fan are shot. To give you an idea, the fan sometimes just sounds like a loud rumble, or it will be a loud clicking-and when the computer powers down and the fan shuts off, you can hear the clicking slowly fade out. When i blow compressed air through the fan blades, instead of spinning for a long time, the fan quickly comes to a stop and makes the clicking noise. If the problem is indeed the ball bearings-how do i go about fixing it? Is it just something i have to buy a replacement fan for?

I think running windows 7 has worsened my computers condition, because the fan is always running.
