Sata Drivers Required During Installation Of Vista
Replies: 2 | Post Date: October 18th, 2007, 03:16 AM | User: Geek Geek Geek | Forums: forums.devshed.comI am trying to clean install vista ultimate on a nec versa s3200 laptop. During installation, the part where the harddrives need to be choosen, i find that vista asks for device drivers and i cant see any of the 3 partitions on my hdd, not at all, the screen is blank. But the damn cd which came along with nec does not have any sata or raid drivers, so i am practically stuck. The options are that i need to find out what is the make of the harddrive and then try to download the sata drivers for that particular make of hdd and feed it to vista during installation - is that the right thing to do?
Alternatively i am also planning to create a win 98 boot disk on a cd, boot the laptop on the cd, format/s c: ( dunno if it will format it as ntfs or fat ) then access the d: drive and fire up the vista installation from there, a dump of the vista resides in d: you see. Will it still ask me for the drivers? And will it reformat c: to ntfs during installation?
Am i totally wrong in assuming that the drivers being asked by vista is sata drivers, where will i get these drivers and where in bios can i find out the motherboard details.

Here's my hardware/os:
-Microsoft vista ultimate 64-bit os(purchased separately (brand new & legit), so as to install "fresh" on my:
-Asus p5b-premium vista edition motherbard; (no its not a joke, the board is actually called vista edition)
(With the onboard intel ich8r sata controllers, . And a jmicron jmb363 pata/sata controller)
-Intel quad-core cpu
-(2) rators striped across the ich8r sata controllers
-(1) pioneer "sata" dvr-212d dvd/cd on the jmb363 sata controller. -As a test, i tried an unattended install with my 'ole winxp pro, and by using nlite, and/or editing the winnt. Sif, .configuration text files its fairly easy to have an "unattended" mastered dvd install of (32-bit)winxp pro. , And it works "flawlessly", and freakin fast with the hardware above, and without floppy-drives, usb-flash drivers, . Note: the jmicron-jmb363 sata controller is very buggy, and "slow" in vista-64bit, when you install a cd/dvd in the drive evrything freezes up, usb mouse, . For a few seconds then its ok? However, in winxp pro it all works great!
I'm a newbie at vista ultimate 64, but microsofts' waik, winpe, xml complicated text files seems even more complex, considering, i'm not deploying workstations, i just want to inject the needed sata controller drivers into the appropriate. Vista ultimate 64-bit image file(s) to boot and install from the one dvd. But, it still doesn't want to work (see below site exmples for details)
I have tried the below methods and/or site recommendation to no avail, it seems overly-complex when trying to find consistent information hunting in microsoft sites ?, -The "error" is during the very early install of vista 64-bit, this early pass1 is likely using the "boot. Wim" image files
With its obvious limited driver support. So how can i simply "inject" the drivers into boot. Wim, and/or install. Wim for this to wotk. http://firegeier. Unattended-sponsor. De/en/inject_drivers_into_image.html
(Firegeier site is probably the best explained "unattended" vista install, and much better then microsoft hoopla sites. )
http://unattended. Msfn.org/unattended. Xp/
(Great for xp, . Not much for vista yet)
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?Familyid=c7d4bc6d-15f3-4284-9123-679830d629f2&displaylang=en
(If you can decipher nostramadus' stanza's your ok here)
http://www.Vlite.net/
(According to vlite they don't support that "early" text-based driver installation on vista64-bit yet. -Which led me to method "boot. Wim" which vista pre-loads. )
http://apcmag.com/5436/customise_windows_pe_2_0
(I'm trying this now although this its more for wds deployments. ?)
Any other ideas/suggestions would be appreciated? I realize support is very thin still (especially 64-bit wise) but its getting there, maybe its too new, as well as "me" errors but i've tried all the methods above, as close as i could, rtfm, . ? Has anyone got this working, appreciate any info.

I7 Setup Reboots During Windows 7 / Vista Installation
I recently built the system xp 32 bit runs perfectly with no issues what-so-ever. If i try to install windows 7 64bit rc1 and/or vista premium 64 bit, the machine reboots. This is right after the "loading windows system files" screen. I have reseated ram, cards, cables. I've updated to the most recent bios, tried to install at stock settings, dummy oc on and off, broken down my system to bare-bones, ran memtest 86 for 6 hours. Temps on cpu during idle are around 30-32 degrees and under load don't get above 54 degrees. Ram timings are irrelevant as these are xmp sticks. (I've set them manually with no change). I installed vista on an old hard drive back in early april and it showed the age of the drive. I had a ton of issues. When i did install vista back then i did it with one stick on ram populated in the farthest dim from the cpu. This is the one thing i have not tried yet as i just got the dummy over-clock running stable, (8 hours running prime 95 with no issues). I just don't understand why i'd have to run this board with just one stick to get an os installed when the xp installation was so flawless. I've had a lot of issues and it may be due to this evga board. However i lack the time to properly trouble-shoot it with tech support. Any thoughts? Experiences? Ideas?

Vista Installation / Wd Hard Disk Driver Problem
I purchased a 32-bit vista home premium dvd (legal copy) to install on my newly bought wd 400gb caviar se (8mb cache - model number wd4000aajs). First of all, after windows loads the files for installation or whatever in that gray progress bar on the bottom of the screen it takes about 7-8 minutes just hanging on that blue/green splash screen. I then am amble to choose the language and click the install now button. It then goes to the "please wait. " Screen for another 5 minutes - is this 15 minute wait in total normal?
Now the real problem, i'm getting a "driver error" message at the 'collecting information stage' - it is simply asking for a driver for my hdd (wd4000aajs). I am then given the option to browse a cd/dvd. I have tried 2 versions of western digital cd - version 11. 1 and 11. 3 (i.e. , Diagnostic/recovery/drivers cd). It couldn't find any appropriate driver for the hard disk. I searched and searched but couldn't find any vista driver for my 2nd gen sata hard disk? Wd's download library page doesn't say anything about vista compatibility except they are continuously updating the drivers (my a s s)
How can i solve this problem?
1) i downloaded sata ahci drivers from biostar's web page. I will put those into a diskette and try again in the same stage. Perhaps vista finds sata drives for the motherboard and my problem ends!
2) should i update the bios version first? Or should i change any settings in the bios?
3) likewise, do you think playing with master/slave jumpers on the drives might solve the problem?
4) if it doesn't work with above options i am thinking to assemble the rig in its barebones (cpu/ram/vid card/1gb ram/ 1 hdd/1 dvd) - right now everything is connected to the mobo and i already put it inside the case. I generally try to post it in the barebone stage - if it posts i put everything inside the case. And in this situation it posted so i went ahead and put everything inside the case. I'm too lazy to pull them out!

Sata / Ide Drive Installation
My mate gave me his computer to upgrade for him as he wanted to have another hd for storage installed but i'm having a wee bit of trouble to get it installed !
He already has a hd installed with a sata connection and his dvd/dvd-rw drives were installed into ide 1. He bought a hard drive that wasn't sata but ide and i thought it would connect ok so i changed the dvd/dvd-rw drives to ide 2 and installed the hd in ide 1 with the jumper set to 'slave'. Switched the computer back on and it got as far as testing the memory and then nothing, couldn't even access the bios. So, i swapped the ide connections round so the hd was in ide 2 and the dvd drives were back into ide 1, switched the computer back on and it boots up fine but only recognises the sata - no second hard drive, no dvd drive and no dvd-rw drive. I can't figure out what's wrong with it. Its usually the other way around, and that sata isn't being recognised ! Anybody any ideas ?

Nvidia Drivers For Vista
*** is up with nvidia and their lack of official vista chipset/platform drivers? The only vista platform drivers listed in their dl section is for the nforce 3, and those have been there since beta/rc times. Sure they have official vista graphics drivers and their ntune, but the come on nvidia! The other camp has both 32bit and 64bit vista drivers for all of their products.

Sata Drives Recognized By Bios But Not Detected By Vista
What it says on the tin, really. I installed two new maxtor 250gb sata drives this afternoon, as companions to my 500gb main c:/ drive. They are picked up in the bios just fine, but vista can't see them. They don't show up in disk management or the device manager, so i can't format them or do anything with them. I've looked through the manual and the bios very thoroughly, but i can't find anything wrong. Everything that should be enabled is enabled. It's an msi k9n mainboard. I should stress that this is not a raid setup - i just want two extra hds.

Can't Install Vista Or Win7 On Sata Drive
I thought it would be simple. Does it matter which sata slots are used for a boot drive. There are 8 on my board 4 controlled by intel ichr7 and the others by marvel. Attempts to install windows result in error message that the drive is configured as active in the bios and suggest using diskpart utility to clean the drive? Does sata use master/slave? The hd is a wd caviar blue 300gb. What am i doing incorrectly?

I just upgraded from audigy 4 to x-fi extreme music. I want to know the best drivers to install to take advantage of the card. I know traditionally the creative ones use a lot of resources. Any suggestions? My main use is gaming on 4. 1 system and hook up via spdif to my home theater system. Im running vista pro 32bit.

Nvidia Drivers Released Before Vista
Does anybody else remember the sweet geforce drivers nvidia released before vista came out? They had all these great features, like "nview, " toolbar buttons, display profiles, hotkeys and so much more. I opened up my newfangled nvidia control panel and even the "advanced" menu pales in comparison. *** Happened? What compelled nvidia to build its own catalyst control center, and axe all those great features like display profiles and hotkeys?

Sata Hdd Do Not Show Up In Windows Vista But Shows In Bios
I just bought a new computer with one sata hard drive in it. Everything is fine with the computer. I had an old computer that had two hard drives in it. Ither was one sata hard drive from my old computer which was a secondary hard drive used for storing media. It worked properly in that computer. I then proceeded to plug it into my new computer. Now, only the original hard drive in my new computer shows up under my computer. My secondary sata drive only shows up in the bios. How can i get this to work so that i can enjoy my music and videos on my new computer?

X-fi Titanium Drivers For Vista X64 Cause Standby Problems
The drivers that are on the web now for the x-fi titanium cause an error message to pop up upon resume from s3 standby. The message is: host process for windows services stopped working and was closed. The audio system then has to restart in windows which forces me to wait longer. Also for whatever reason 5% volume is moderately loud and is the lowest volume i can go which requires me to go into the eq to lower the volume further. I noticed the driver change said it increased the system volume for vista sp1. Looks like they forgot to even test headphones.

I went and bought a new sata 160gb hard drive for my computer. Im trying to set it up on my dell dimension 8400(or my xps). I know i need to have the drivers on a floppy and i know i need to press f6. But where are these drivers? Do these dells have host adapters or are they built in to the mother board? Also, i've tried on both the 8400 and the xps and still no luck.

Sata Drivers Problem
I'm trying ti install xp pro on aspire e500 with 250 gb sata hd but without lucky till now. I'd dowloaded the drivers from acer site, and when xp ask me the drivers i put they on pc, the installation start, xp format the partition like i want and after start to copy files, at the end reboot. Well after reboot the installation don't continue but i have a blue screen with errore 0000078 or 000007b and the write on the screen that say me to use "chkdsk / f on my hd". So i thought that is a driver problem. In this section i read about a sata ii, maybe is this the problem? What is exacly sata ii ?

Nvidia Sata Drivers Keep Being Re-detected When Booting Pc
I just installed the latest nforce drivers on this old nvidia 6150le motherboard and the oddest thing happens. After every single reboot it re-detects the sata drivers and installs them. Every single reboot. Oh yea, the pc is running windows xp. Any ideas?

Asus A7v8x-la Sata Hdd Drivers
I have an hp pavilion a720n with a asus a7v8x-la mb. I added a sata hdd which shows up in the bios and doesn't show problems in the device manager, but isn't picked up by windows (xp home). I think it's the proper drivers that i need, but after a long research, i just can't find them!
Do you know where i could look for them?
And can you please confirm that it's the sata drivers for the mb that i should look for?

Cable Or Adapter Required To Use 2.5 Drive On A Desktop
I know the 2. 5" drives have different sata connectors than what desktop mobos use normally with 3. 5" drives. Is there any specific cable or adapter required to use one (planning on migrating my x25-m g2 from my laptop to new build)?

Printer Error - Required Software Component Was Not Found
I have a hp f4400 series printer/scanner/copier. How do i get it to scan without the error message? Bought this a couple of weeks ago, haven't had much time to play with it. Uninstalled and reinstalled 3 times to no avail. Error message reads: "a required software component was not found or was improperly installed. Reinstall the hp photosmart software that came with the device, and try scanning again. "

Vista Can't Find Its Hardware Drivers, Most Usb Devices Won't Install
Last night everything was ok. After i'd cleaned the computer and plugged everything back in windows decides it can't find drivers for any of my usb devices (keyboard, mouse, camera, gamepad, joystick). When it finds them it says new hardware found. With 3 choices:
Locate and install driver
Ask me again later
Don't show this message again
So i click the first option, and it searches for drivers but. 'could not find driver software'. I then click 'check online for a solution' with no luck. These devices are so basic that the manufacturers don't supply drivers for the products; they should all be with the os. What can i do guys? I'm a keen photographer and not being able to upload my photos via the camera or card reader is a real issue for me. By the way the above process happens for all the usb hardware i have except the printer, usb flash drive, mouse and keyboard (luckily!)

Why Is A 2nd Sata Drive Making Both Sata's Unrecognized ?
I just removed my old ide hdd with xp and replaced it with a sata drive and installed vista on it. Everything was fine, until:
I installed a second brand new unformatted sata hdd. With the second drive installed neither of the new drives are recognized and windows won't boot. Is it something obvious i'm missing?

Internal Sata Blu Ray Drive Plugged Into Sata
Alright, i'll make this short and sweet. I want to free one of my sata ports up so i can install another hard drive. My motherboard has a built in esata port on the back. Is it as simple as moving my blu ray sata cable to the esata jack on the back? Aesthetics mean nothing, this computer is hidden.

Usb To Sata Adapters For Storage Rather Than Buy Sata Cards
I've read here where people need to buy raid cards or pci, sata cards to add more hard drives to their system. Well i am in the same boat, i have 2, 30g vertex in raid, 3, 1. 5tb samsung, and 1 sata dvd drive. All my sata ports are full and a sata card costs. Idk more than 50 bucks i guess. Why can't we just use usb to sata adapters? The speed is relatively the same, at least for just xfer of files and streaming. It can be put internally, and it's cheap. Usb to sata adapter kits usually consist of the usb to sata adapter cable and a separate power-brick for sata to outlet. You can buy just the usb to sata adapter for 1$ from overseas with free shipping. Mount some usb headers internally to plug a few of these cables and run the sata power from your regular power-supply, it can handle.
So whats the thought behind this? It can be relatively hidden(i like clean cases and you can hide most anything) is a cheap solution to an expanding computer case (can't usb do like 126 devices?) And speeds are pretty good. Again this is for internal installation, you would use your power-supply for power, and 1$ per hard drive for the usb to sata adapter. I have a spare 750 and 2x 500 segates lying around and a lian li v2000 (abs clone) i got the space, just don't have the connections! Thoughts?
