Computer Starts But Display Does Not Come
Replies: 5 | Post Date: 09-05-2008, 01:12 PM | User: Redemptionca | Forums: hardforum.comI've got what i believe is a serious issue with my rig. Since this morning my rig does not boot properly. When i hit the power button to computer starts as normal, however the display never "unsleeps". Also my modem has a light that indicates pc activity, and this light remains out. This leads me to believe that there is nothing actually going on in the box, just fans/drives spinning. I have checked all the wire conections (internally, and externally) also all fans are spinning including vid card, and the hard drive is spinning also. The dvd drive will open and shut. On startup the machine still dual boots (as i have read is expected for my chipset) so i believe that the mobo is fine. If there is any othe info you need please ask. Rig in sig (q6600).

Computer Starts Up But Only Get To The Bios
Alright, computer was working fine went into the other room when i came back the computer screen was black and the desktop sounded like it was still running. Tried to turn the desktop off, but it wouldn't turn off. The computer screen said it was working fine and i needed to check the cable i hooked it up to my laptop and it works fine. When i unplugged the desktop or turned the switch off in the back the computer shuts down. When i plug it back in or switch the power switch on in the back the computer sounds like its turning on the fans and all the lights start and come on. Only thing that doesn't work is the cd drive doesn't open and nothing comes up on the screen. I have had a problem with the power supply before and replaced it. I thought it was the power supply again and just today replaced the power supply again. I still have the same problem. I've read some other posts about similar problems, but they all seemed to be fixed with power supplies. I have also read that i should be able to get to the bios when the computer starts up, but haven't been able to get anywhere. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Keyboard Does Not Respond When Computer Starts Booting
When i boot the lights on the keyboard flash, but once the computer starts booting, the keyboard does not respond. It often just gets cut of in the windows as well. When this happens i just unplug the keyboard and plug it back in. It usually works within few attempts but at times it does not work at all. So i have to restart few times and play around until it does. I tried a different keyboard and everything, but nothing helps.

Cpu 2.93ghz Seen As 2.2ghz On Computer Starts
I am building a testing server, and i installed a soyo p4vte socket 478 motherboard and intel celeron d 340 2. 93ghz processor - when i start the computer the cpu is read at 2. 20ghz. I'm not sure why it say this. I looked in the motherboard manual and it speaks of cpu clock frequency. I believe its currently set at 100, but it can be 133 or 200m. Is this why i'm having this problem?
The memory is 512mb pc3200 ddr 400mhz cl3. If someone know whats going on, please let me know.

Install New Ram, Computer Starts Loading Up Very Slowly
My computer has one stick pc2700 512mb and one stick pc2100 256mb. Total of two slots for memory. Today i bought a stick of pc2700 512mb ram to replace the pc2100 256mb one with. I installed it in my computer, and switched it on. For about thirty seconds after booting, everything was fine. The memory showed up under the "my computer" information window and everything. Then, everything went haywire. The computer started loading things up very slowly, taking several seconds to open/close windows, call up the start menu, and so on. Eventually it simply froze (mouse still moving, but no clicks having any effect). I switched it off then back on, and it got through the windows xp loading screen then before the login menu just froze to a black screen. Switched off then back on again, started in safe mode, and got to the login screen, but upon logging in, was told explorer.exe had encountered an error and was being closed, so, no desktop. I was looking in the ctrl-alt-delete window for the "run programs" button (i thought i remembered there being one there) when the computer spontaneously reset itself. After the winxp login screen, it flashed a bunch of text for a split second and spontaneously reset itself again. At this point i shut it off, took the new ram out, put the old ram back in, literally shaking with nervous tension as i switched it back on. Well, i'm now typing this email from the computer i'm talking about, so as you can see, everything turned out okay. What do you think the problem was? I suspect it was a wattage problem. Does this sound accurate to you guys? (Old computer. 250 watt power supply. )
Taking a look, installation of a new power supply looks actually kind of complicated. It looks like i"m going to have to unhook everything inside my machine. I am not at all mechanically inclined, so this is not an inviting prospect. So if there are any other theories/suggestions how to fix this, i would be quite grateful.could it just be the fact that i'm mismatching brands of ram? Someone told me that's not ideal-but it's not that bad to do so, is it?
(Also, btw, do you think i'll see any performance gain in games by (as i tried to do) moving my ram from pc2100 (266mhz) to pc2700 (333mhz) and adding 256mb? Or would it be undetectable?)
Configurations:-
Amd athlon 2000+
Geforce fx5700le
768mb pc2100 ram

Using Computer Monitor As A Display For A Ps2 ?
I'm just curious if i could take my ps2, and use my 19 inch lcd computer display instead of my tv. Do i need a tv tuner or some other piece of hardware, or just the right cables?

Windows Does Not Display New Drive In My Computer Folder
I reinstalled windows last nite, and backed up my important files on my 320 gig western digital elemental. From what i recall when i bought the thing, it was simply plug and play, no driver installation. Well, i plug the device into usb, and windows makes it usb recognition noise, but it does not show the device name in the task bar. It only shows "mass storage device". Windows does not display a new drive in my computer. I plugged another mini external hd into the same usb port, and it was recognized immediately. So i know nothing is wrong with usb. I plugged the hd into my laptop, and it will not read it either! I can't believe the thing would be hosed, and it has all my important files. Is there anything i can do?

Computer Restarts On Bootup After It Display The Memory
When i start the machine, i see the fx 5500 on the screen. Then when it goes the the post window. Than it beeps once, (i know what one beep is), and starts to go through the list, but when it hits the processor, it shows amd athlon 64 3000 (what it is suppose to be), but right before it starts to display the memory, it restarts. Does the same thing over and over again. I opened up the computer, replaced the psu, thinking it might have been that. But, to no avail, i can seem to get the computer to boot past the cpu. Does anyone have any suggestions?
Btw, i have already check for more standoffs, than normal, and have check all connections to the motherboard, i have also check all the connectors to the computer to make sure that it wasn't that. The only thing that is different, is that i put it on a battery backup, but i didn't think that that would do this. I also, used the none battery backup parts of it.

No Display, Computer Freezes, Long Beep
I've tried to troubleshoot my way through this, but find myself too frustrated with my own machine to think straight. Any help would be greatly appreciated. The problem started with my monitor (seemingly at random) going into power saving mode. I wouldn't be able to bring it back out of power saving mode without doing a complete restart of my system. I suspected either the video card (ati radeon x1300 w/256mb) or the monitor (lg lcd). I tried a different monitor and had the same problem. I tried switching the connection from dvi to vga. Still, the same problem. Definitely the video card. Except now i'm not so sure. I just fired it up again and opened the web browser, only to have the whole computer freeze up on me (i could move the mouse, but that was all. Clicking and keyboard commands were completely useless) and then my display went dead black, without even the warning about power saving mode. The computer appeared to still be running, though. The lights were on, and i could hear fan noise. So, i powered down, waited 5, then powered back on and attempted to login as admin in safe mode. Windows didn't even finish booting this time before it froze. There was also a long, continuous beep coming from within the case. The screen went dead again, the beep continued, and the computer still seemed to be running. I powered down, waited another 5, then powered back on one last time. This time, though, the screen wouldn't come on at all. The computer, though, did again seem to be running (lights, fan noise, etc). If not for the freezing and the long beep, i'd still suspect the video card, but now i'm not so sure. Does anyone have any ideas or suggestions?

I have an all in one touchscreen computer. When it boots up the the display lights up then goes dark. The image is still on the display but there is no light so it is almost impossible to see. If i press the soft switch twice the screen lights up momentarily then goes dark again. I changed the video card but still no help.

Computer Won't Display Video / Post
I turn the computer on, all fans are spinning (psu/video card/hsf), keyboard does not light up at the beginning and no video displays on the monitor. Here is what i've done:
Bought a hd4850 to replace the x1800xtx (first instinct was the card is bad), i replaced that and tried it, no luck. Switched out motherboards (tforce 965pt), tried both video cards on this one
Cleared cmos, on both, took out of the case and tried it on cardboard, tested both cards in another build, both worked. I'm wondering what's left to try / do? Do i need to replace my cpu or is there something else i should try.

Computer Doesn't Beep When Turned On, No Display
I use my computer to record music with. In the midst of running cubase i got a blue screen error message saying that i should restart the computer. The soft power did not work. I turned it off and about an hour later powered on again. It seemed to be running fine except that after 30 seconds it shut off. Now when i try to turn it on there is no beeps. The fans run and there is a yellow led light that comes on. It sounds as if the harddrive is spinning and the cd/dvd drive also is spinning as i tried to boot from windows with no luck. I can't even get to bios. Today i disconnected the sound card the hard drive and the cd drive and attempted to boot up. Same thing. Fans spin but no beeps. Either the power supply, don't really think so, cpu or motherboard. Does this seem a fair assessment? Also cleaned out the dust. Only thing i haven't tried is crossing the cmos jumpers but i did take the bios battery out for like ten minutes. Same thing as crossing the jumpers?
Specs are:-
Western digital 80 gb 7200 rpm ata 100 hard drive
Intel p4 2. 4 6hz
Gigabyte rz series motherboard. 8s648fx-rzc
1 512 mb ddr 400 pc 3200 kingston ram. Sound card - emu 1820
Windows xp home edition. Radeon 7000 video card

Second Display In Dual Display Setup Has Stopped Working
I have a pc with dual monitors. Both monitors worked fine for a year, but one day the second display stopped working, and the second monitor. It’s an intel based system with pci-e ati hd2600 video card with dual dvi out. Monitors are both identical acer 22 inch lcds. The issue is that monitor a shows a proper display, but monitor b is blank and goes into power save mode. If i switch monitor a with monitor b, same result. Hence, both monitors are in working condition. If i swap dvi cable a with dvi cable b, same result. Hence, both dvi cable are in working condition. I’ve tried replacing the video card with a new pci-e card of a different brand. Same result. Hence the video card is not broke. If i only plug one monitor into the video card’s dvi output a, it’ll work. If i only plug one monitor into the video card’s dvi output b, it’ll work. Hence, both dvi outputs on the video card work, just not at the same time. Issue occurs the same during post, as well as in windows and ubuntu. It’s not a driver issue. I’ve tried updating the drivers. I’m not sure what this could be.

Hence, both dvi outputs on the video card work, just not at the same time. Issue occurs the same during post, as well as in windows and ubuntu. It’s not a driver issue. I’ve tried updating the drivers. I’m not sure what this could be.

Nothing Starts Up
When i push the power button on my computer they only think that comes on is the motherboard power indicator and the light on the front of the computer. This happened about a week ago when i was playing dod: source, i smelt buring electronics and my computer died. I also had installed 2gb of ram the day before. I've been told many times that it is the psu. I just bought a new one today, installed it and nothing. Although, the fans do jump when i turn it on. Good sign?

Pc No Longer Starts
I use to have a 754 socket asus board in my computer which i recieved from cyberpower systems. The old agp card it came with was unbearable so i ordered a giga-byte board model ga-k8ne and a pcie xfx 7600gt for the time being. Excited i started taking apart the mess cyberpowersystem had done to this case. Hundreds of useless wires eveywhere. So finally i get the new mother board in, to double check i followed the instructions on all the hook ups. Screw it all back in, plug it in, and the press the power button. Nothing. So i double check everything. Looks good. Try it again. Nothing.could this be a dead board? My only concern was that i have a 20 pin power supply rather then 24, but according to the instructions this shouldn't be a problem since i used the the right set for a 20 pin power supply.could anyone else think of what could be wrong? I have emailed giga-byte but new to them so im unsure how long it'll take for an answer.

Pc Starts Up With Black Screen And With No Beep
Every time i turn my computer on it starts up but the screens black and there is no beep. I push restart and it loads up fine. I used to have a faulty graphic card and that would beep twice and stay black. This is different. Anybody know what the problem is?

Pc Starts To Boot And Freezes Before Windows
I turned on the pc and the "intel desktop boards" screen appears. And that is it! Usually that would flash and the next screen would be detecting my ide card and recognizing the hard drives but it doesnt even get there. The screen that it is stuck on shows the processor speed, how much ram, and that the keyboard, mouse, and the usb legacy is enabled. The bottom says hit f2 to run set up and f12 if you want to boot from network. I can not get into the bios. The most i made it do was get it to say "entering setup" by hitting f2 as soon as the page came up. But it never goes anywhere after that. Frozen! Any advise would be greatly appreciated. I am not a computer wiz, just a long time tinkerer. I have built 2 or 3 in my lifetime and have just basic knowledge.

What If Nvidia Starts Manufacturing Cpus?
What will the scenario if the nvidia starts manufacturing cpu's? Nvidia has been manufacturing cpus for a long time. Of course, they call them gpus. But gpus perform a similar function and are much more powerful than cpus. Many experts predict that gpus will eventually perform the function of cpus, making the "cpu", as we know it today, obsolete. Intel has already taken a step in that direction. Some of their "cpus" now are actually intel gpus that you install in a cpu socket. http://www.Intel.com/consumer/products/processors/corei3.htm
The performance is a bit under-whelming, doing neither graphics nor cpu functions very well. But it's a good first try! Especially considering intel has never been a major player in gpu hardware.amd knew a long time ago that hardware was going to go in the direction of having the gpu perform all the functions of the cpu. While amd could have created a gpu capable of operating as a cpu and being competitive with intel or any other player.amd decided to take a short-cut by buying ati. Now you know why amd bought ati.amd wanted ati gpu technology that they could "tweak" to perform as future amd/ati gpu / cpus. The killer combination would be if intel bought or merged with nvidia. Then intel could tweak nvidia gpus to behave like intel cpus. Awesome!
But there is nothing stopping nvidia from integrating cpu functions into nvidia's line-up of gpus, with or without help from either of the two major cpu hardware vendors. It's not a matter of if nvidia will start manufacturing cpus, it's a matter of, when nvidia starts incorporating cpu functions into their gpus, will nvidia be able to gain the support of the major motherboard manufacturers? A gpu/cpu combination is useless without a good selection of motherboards to support it. My prediction is that within 10 or 15 years maximum. We won't be buying cpus and video cards. We'll be buying chips that function as both. They will be (mostly) gpu designs, but function as cpus also. I think the best description of such a beast would be "gpu". But if the market follows intel's lead (like it usually does), the combo chip that has multiple gpu cores and functions as a cpu will likely be called a cpu. Which is a bit misleading.

Pc Processor Starts To Work Slow
I had this problem before too, i reformatted the whole drive and all seemed to work just fine. But today it appeared again: i use winamp to listen music and when i start an application like ym, firefox or whatever uses the processor, the music slows down until the application is fully loaded. Also everything is being processed at a much slower rate than usual (like 5-6 times slower). My windows xp service pack 3 now starts in about more than 2 minutes. Before was like 30 seconds.computer specs are:
- Intel celeron processor at 2800 mhz
- 512 ddr 2 ram memory
- Nvidia geforce 8500gt (256mb)
- Intel 82801fb ich6 - high definition audio controller [b-2]
- 80 gb hard drive
As i told before i reformatted all of the hard drive completely thinking that it's a virus but now it's starts again after about 2 weeks of fresh installation. Is it a hardware problem? I have to mention i had this version of windows xp sp 3 installed before for more than 6 months working just fine.

Mouse And Keyboard Freeze When Windows Xp Starts Up
Sometimes when windows xp professional starts up on my computer, the mouse will not work properly. It is just frozen at the welcome screen. However, i can still use the keyboard to login. The mouse is a ps/2 mouse. After windows finishes login in and shows the desktop, the mouse is still frozen. Sometimes the mouse will function properly on the welcome screen. However when my computer enters standby mode the mouse and keyboard are both usually frozen when i try to bring the computer out of standby mode and the computer is unresponsive. I think this has also happened after a few minutes of not using the computer while the computer was running.

Hsf Volcano 9 Cause Hdd Starts Spinning
I went to the computer shop and picked up a new led fan, fan grill, cathode light, and a new hsf (volcano 9). I hooked everything up and when i go to turn it on my hdd starts spinning then stops then starts then stops. Etc (in 1 second intervals), it sounds like its the computer is in a never ending cycle. When i was trying to take off my old hsf i slipped on brackets a few times and hit the mobo, i looked carefully and it doesnt appear to be any damage. Now the new volcano 9 is a little weird cause the three pin connector for the power/sensor are split up. Instead of all three cables on the same connector the 2 power and one sensor are connected to seperate connectors. I have the sensor one connected to the 3 pin connector where is normally goes and the other one has a molex adapter which is also connected. Im thinking that maybe cause all three cables arnt connected to the primary 3 pin connector that the computer isnt reckognizing that theres a hsf there so its preventing it from turning on.

Dvd Drive Works Until Windows Starts
Recently i connected my hd into other pc then i connected it back on my pc but now i'm having a hard time to make my dvd drive work, i never had problems before and it was working fine. This is what happens: when i turn on the pc, the dvd led flashes and everything, i can open and close the tray without problems. The dvd drive is showed in the bios too. But as soon as windows xp starts loading the dvd drive wont work, with this i mean it wont even open the tray. Once windows has started its the same. It looks like the drive is detected because under device manager it shows this: "dvd-rom scsi cdrom device", and my other cd drive is listed too. But when i try to access it, i get a "please insert a disk into drive e:" eventho i already have a disc there. If i try to eject it using windows nothing happens. This is how i have my connections:
(Got primary and secundary ide enabled in bios)
Primary ide: master is my hd
Primary ide: slave is cd-rom drive
Secundary ide: master is dvd drive (the one with problems)
Secundary ide: slave = nothing
Already tried swapping the dvd-drive to primary ide as slave but it happens exactly the same. Im so confused, why would it work before windows starts to load, but wont work after? What do you recommend me to do? Im out of ideas, do you think its the drive jumpers? Or something related to windows? Should i reinstall?

Wd Aaks Drive Stops And Starts Spinning
When i'm doing random tasks on the pc the system will stop responding until the drive spins up. Sometimes i will attempt to open an image or video file (even on different drives), the entire system hangs, then you hear the drive click/spin up and then everything is back to normal. The drive also does this when the pc is idle. If the drive is dying, is it worth it to rma? I bought it back in november 2008.

After that is just keeps making the start up jingle and it keeps attempting to reboot in its own, i dont know what else to do but i have lost so much sleep over this because this computer has very priceless pictures and videos on it. Cpu Fan Starts To Spin For A Split Second And Then Cuts Out
I just put together a new workstation, and when i press the power button on the front of the case, the cpu fan starts to spin for a split second and then cuts out and nothing else happens, no beeps, no post, nothing. Bad power supply or is something hooked up incorrectly?
