Using Usb 2.0 Cable For Extending An Internet Connection
Replies: 3 | Post Date: 3 months ago | User: Saiiju | Forums: answers.yahoo.comWill a usb 2. 0 cable of 10 meters work for extending an internet connection?
Answer:-
No. It's the usb 2. 0 part that results in the "no", not the 10 meters part.

Networking 4 Pcs With Cable Internet Connection
Previously i had 3 pc's on my home network, 2 running winxp pro, and 1 running winxp home, which were connected to a motorola sb5101 surfboard cable modem through a 4-port linksys router. Everything was running perfectly; fast/reliable lan and internet speeds. Recently, i added a 4th pc running winxp pro x64. Upon first connecting the new pc to my router, it got no "limited or no connectivity, " while my other 3 pc's were running perfectly on the local network and internet. So i shut down all 4 pc's, along with the router and modem. After restarting everything, the new pc was the only one working correctly on the network with the other 3 pc's receiving "limited or no connectivity. "
Since then, i've only been able to get 1 out of the 4 pc's on my network at a time. I can get any 1 of them working fine, but no more than 1. 3 out of the 4 always get "limited or no connectivity. " I'm fairly sure that it isn't the router, as i have tried 3 routers(2 linksys and 1 asante) and have the same problem every time. I'm assuming it isn't the modem, as it works perfectly with any single pc, unless it suddenly decided not to accept more than 1 pc?
I've tried release/renew on any of the 3 pc's getting "limited or no connection" and it always times out with "unable to contact your dhcp server" while attempting to renew, tried resetting the modem and router (along with the 4 pc's). I haven't tried static ip's, as i'd much rather leave it automatic. Any ideas?

Extending The C: Partition
Ok, so i was installing windows on my very first build and at the beginning it asked me to create a volume to store windows in. What i though it meant is that is was going to make that volume store windows in it, then use the rest of the hdd and my c: drive. So i didn't want to waste a lot of the hdd doing this so i made it 5gb. Now this is a 160gb seagate hdd, so 5gb is nothing. Now my question is is there a way to make this c: drive be the whole hdd, or if you cant do that how can i clear out this hard drive so i can start all over again from the beginning. One other problem is i made it into a dynamic disk because i was going to dry and delete the volume after this and restore it to a basic disk so i could start over again. Is any of this possible or am i screwed over, and do i have to go buy a new hdd.

Internet Via Dsl Or Cable To Use Phone
I'm fixing to start working from home for an internet help desk. I'm trying to figure out if my internet connection will work, and i'm having an argument with my aunt about it. I will be working from my laptop via wireless internet, but have to use a voip phone. The specs call for:
-Broadband internet connection (dsl and cable but not satellite, dial-up and wireless. A wireless network inside the home is allowed for the computer but not for the ip phone)
-Power over ethernet injector or other device capable of powering the inter-tel 8622 ip keyset (which is a low-power 15. 4w ieee 802. 3af device)
-Network device capable of providing internet connection to 2 or more devices via ethernet (dsl modem with router capabilities, router or switch)
We have a box in our window that receives a wireless transmission and it is connected to a power over ethernet injector which then runs into a wireless modem. We have it connected to a wireless modem because the port on the desktop computer is broken so we cannot have it "hard-wired" to it. I need to know that, if i was to get this job, would i need to purchase internet via dsl or cable to use the phone.

Cable Internet Lagging On Xbox Live
Ok so last night my internet was very crappy, so i called my cable company and after playing with a bad lag, on my video games, i was in a middle of a game when i called and i figured u know i should probably call teach support so i did. And well come to find out the guy has never heard of a laggy connection problem/ dropping out connection, so i got on there website and did a speed test- download speed: 7805 kbps (975. 6 kb/sec transfer rate)
Upload speed: 576 kbps (72 kb/sec transfer rate)
So after a bit of time thinking about it i went and resetted the modem itself and i am stil having problems connected to people online? I don't understand how it managed to get so messed up and i know its not the router its brand new (linksys e3000) high performance wireless n router, i bought a bout a week ago and every has been fine until i started lagging last night i know its not my router and i told the guy on the phone about it and i am wondering if i should just take the modem to the service center/ payment center ? And see if they can replace it ? I do not know what to do at this point cause i can get on the internet with my laptop just fine its just really slow

Local Network Connection Cable Unplugged
I have win xp home edition and i recently had a problem start and i have no clue as to how to fix it. Last week my system started giving me the error that my "local network connection cable unplugged" and now i cannot get my network to connect. Here are the specs of my computer: amd xp 2200 cpu; biostar motherboard model: m7viq ver 1. 2 with via vt6103 lan chip; 768 pc2700 ddr memory. I run a vcom (system suite 5 utilities) firewall and virus checker. I have a broadband connection (motorola surfboard sb5100 cable modem) that runs through a 4 port router (network everywhere, linksys nr041). I have 3 computers networked through the same router and modem and no other computer has a problem with connecting to the internet, or to one another. Here are the attempts i have made to try and fix this problem but was unsuccessful (first i disabled the firewall and virus checker):
1. I've checked cable and it was plugged, tried a differnet connection on router and no success. Tried new cable, still not success. 2. I thought maybe a game my brother loaded (heavy gear ii) could have overwrote some important networking files since it is an online game, so i uninstalled the game. No success. 3. I tried 3 different restore points prior to the loading of the game and still no fix. 4. I ran xp's repair current windows utility and this still did not fix my network connection. 5. I've tried a different nic (realtek rtl8139/810x fast ehternet pci card) and it does the same thing as the onboard lan connection by giving me the same error. 6. When i go to the hardware manager, it says that both devices are working properly. 7. I pinged 127. 0. 0. 1 and nic checks out fine. 8. When i do a "ipconfig /all" at the command prompt, i get that both nic cards "media state" are disconnected. 9. I've done research on the internet on this problem and have not yet found an answer. I even went to heavy gear ii site and did not find anything that would help. I'm not even sure that the game caused the problem to begin with, but i'm out of guesses. I would like to go the windows update and run the updates on my system but i cannot get on the net to do so. I did load new drivers from a floppy for the realtek nic but that didn't work either. Can someone give me any suggestions on what to do next?

Usb 2.0 Maximum Cable Length - Long Usb Cables
My backup device is a usb 2. 0 250 mb iomega hard drive. I'd like to put it in my garage, requiring about 20 to 25 feet of wire. The official usb specs say 5 meters max; if further use a hub/repeater. I'm wondering how realistic the 5 meter spec is. I recall that parallel printer cables were supposed to be limited to 10 feet or so; 75 foot cables worked just fine. Same thing with the specs for rs-232 cables. Does anyone have any real world experience with long usb 2. 0 cables? I'm thinking of building mine using unshielded cat5 cable, one twisted pair for power, another for data. Wise? Foolish?

Usb Active Repeater - Usb Extension Cable
I bought an 10m usb extension cable so that i could wire this across my room to downstairs but anything i connect to it, the computer says it is not recognised and that there are no drivers installed. Im guessing the signal is low or something as i believe they only work up to 5m, so im thinking of getting a usb active repeater but how do these work exactly and what size will i need?
I dont want my connection to be longer then 10m so would i have to connect the repeater to the computer and then the 10m cable to the repeater or something? Or will this not work no matter what becasue it is 10m?

Extending Desktop To Monitor With Dvi Cord
I have a desktop with a vga and a dvi port. My current monitor is plugged into the vga. I want to plug a 2nd monitor into the dvi so that i can extend the desktop. 2nd monitor is turned on. The dell red/green/blue/white "self test feature check" is meanding around the screen. However, when i plug the dvi cord in, my primary monitor immediately displays a "connection lost" on the screen, so i can't do anything further. I have also tried unplugging the vga to my primary monitor while leaving the dvi plugged into the 2nd monitor - that does nothing either. Finally, i have tried shutting down the comp and starting it up with both the vga and dvi plugged in. In this case, i see the pre-boot stuff on my primary monitor, and i even see the initial windows startup icon. However, the screen loses connection again before i see the login to windows screen. I then have to unplug the dvi cord to see that screen.

Mac Won't Work When Connected With Internet Cable
My mac wont work when i connect with an internet cable. I'm at my aunt's and she doesn't have wireless but has internet cables. I have the new snow leopard and when i tried the internet cable it said 'ethernet has a self-assigned ip address and will not be able to connect to the internet. ' which means that it is plugged in (and the light was there too).

Usb 2.0 Degradation With Long Usb Cable
I'm reorganizing my htpc setup to add a second pc but i'd like to keep my external drives where they are. It will be about 8-10 foot run total with about 3 feet for the usb hub (powered) and another 5-7 feet for the extension. Both cables are shielded. According to the standard i should be good up to 16 feet (5m), but i was wondering if anyone had experience with long usb cable runs and if they noticed any degradation either in the form of slower speed or corrupted data.

Usb Hub Using A Usb Y-cable For More Power
I use a laptop that only has 3 usb ports, and i like using a corded mouse and an external hard drive that takes up the other 2 ports. Since a usb y-cable provides more power, could i use that to hook into the hub?
I want to hook one of these:
http://www.Amazon.com/gp/customer-media/product-gallery/b0013lqd7y/ref=cm_ciu_pdp_images_0?Ie=utf8&index=0
Into one of these:
http://www.Newegg.com/product/showimage.aspx?Curimage=17-394-025-04.jpg
Would that provide more power to the hub, without having to use the ac adapter with the hub?
I really wish someone made a simple hub like this with 2 plugs:

I really wish someone made a simple hub like this with 2 plugs:

Set Cisco 1841 Router To Load Balance Over Cable Connection
How can i set my cisco 1841 router to load balance over a t1 and a 3. 0mbps cable connection. ? I am trying to configure my cisco 1841 router to use both a t1 connection and a cable connection. The t1 is up and functioning correctly on the s0/0/0 port. I have a straight cable connected from the cable modem to the fa0/0 on the router. How can i configure the router to route network traffic to their destinations via the fa0/0 and s0/0/0 interface? How can i test to see if the cable modem is handling any traffic?

Internet Connection Has Timed Out
When i try to log in my facebook account always the connection has timed out. Answer:-
Your facebook is fine, this just means your internet connection is gone. But that's nothing to do with facebook. It just means you've lose internet connection, which i don't really know much about. So maybe ask a question in computers section of yahoo answers asking what you need to check and get fixed and so on to get your internet connection back. ?

So why am i paying for (5mbs) and lucky to squeeze in any internet at all. Its not my computer i've used 4 laptops and a desktop computer it also disconnect my xbox 360 & ps3 from online gameplay. I tried two different wireless routers , i even removed the router but it's still to slow to do anything with

Establishing An Internet Connection
I called verizon tech support about getting a new computer. I'm concerned about establishing adsl connection. They told me all i had to do was hookup the computer. The connection is already established. Just gotta go online. That doesn't sound right to me. Can someone help me? My old verizon disk is no good. So i have no software to do this and they say i don't need it. I think the tech dude doesn't have a clue?

Internet Connection Keeps Going On And Off Every Hour
My internet connection keeps going on and off every hour or so using a realtek wireless adapter. I connect to the internet wirelessly using my realtek rtl8187b wireless 802. 11b/g 54mbps usb 2. 0 network adapter and it seems to somehow just disconnect for no reason. The only temporary solution ive found is to re-install the driver in device manager, it fixes the connection but then goes off again later. It seems to happen when im doing things that require lots of bandwidth like downloading music, videos etc. Is there a solution?
