Video Card For World Of Warcraft Game
Replies: 4 | Post Date: September 6th 2009 | User: Joose | Forums: devhardware.comI just bought a laptop for school (dual core 2. 1ghz, 4gb ram, 300gb hard drive, $800. ) And just for fun i wanted to see if i could run world of warcraft. So i went to the system requirements lab website and it analyzed my computer to see if it met the requirements. It said that my computer could run the game fine except for my video card wasn't good enough. I don't know much about video cards so i don't know how to tell a good video card from bad. It said i needed:
64 mb of video ram - i have 1. 7 gb
3d acceleration - i have that
Hw transform & lighting - i have that
Vertex shader ver. 2. 0 - i have 4. 0
Pixel shader ver. 2. 0 - i have 4. 0
So i meet all of those requirements easily but it still says my video card isn't good enough. It says i need at least a 64mb 3d graphics card with hardware transform and lighting (such as an nvidia geforce 6600 class or better). I have mobile intel(r) 4 series express chipset family (mobile intel(r) 4 series express chipset family)
I am confused. Can someone explain to me what i need to know?

Best World Of Warcraft Settings
Ok i been playing wow since beta and video seems to be getting slower and slower with every patch that comes out. What i would like to know is what is the best settings for wow in the nvidia control panel. Back in the day i found settings that worked well i still have those setting in a document but a lot of stuff has changed and been added top the control panel. Please if you have a suggestion for the following settings please let me know.

World Of Warcraft Freezes
I play world of warcraft. And sometimes. Very rarely, it suddenly freezes on me. The computer freezes completely and the sound sounds like a scratch disk repeating and repeating the last 3 seconds of sound. And the only thing that works is force a restart. No alt+ctrl+del or anything of that kind. I've tried waiting and it doesn't work either. This problem has been going on for around 2 months now. And like i said, it happens rarely. Like twice a week at most. Is this problem related to my ram? Could it be damaged?

Huge Mouse Cursor In World Of Warcraft
Since upgrading to a 5870 card, whenever i play wow my mouse cursor increases in size to about double the normal size. If i turn off hardware cursor in wow it goes back to normal. Funny thing is that when i quit to windows 7 it still stays larger than normal. I tried installing wow from scratch. The second that i put the wotlk disk in and started the installer the cursor in windows 7 increased in size just like it did in the game itself !
Has anyone else found this happening to them ? It's bloody annoying me.

I want to be able to play good games later on in the future, but my main game is wow (maybe darkfall later) would you think this is a good computer for that? Wondering if theres a way to fix mouse lag in warcraft 3 game. It feels pretty floaty. I was able to somehow fix it before with nhancer by changing the prerender limit to 0, but it doesn't seem to be working now. Any other way of fixing it?

It is finally 2nd semester and i am going to build a computer in class. One thing i really need help deciding is which video card to buy. Right now i am leaning towards an ati card and an amd processor, with 1gb of ram. The game i will be playing are, wc3 tft, half life 2, halo, nfsu2, and maybe guild wars. Refusal To Sell A Video Game
A couple of days ago i went into a video game store with my little brother. He's 17 but doesn't have his license yet because he just turned 17 and where i live you cant get your license to drive by yourself till you turn 17. But anyway, he wanted to buy a game that was rated m, which everyone knows that you can't buy it unless your 17+. He brought it to the counter and the lady asked him for his id. He told her he didn't have one and then i asked her could i buy it because i had my id and i'm 18. She told me that i couldn't buy it because it was going to be for him and that he was underaged. I left and went back to the same store without him and tried to purchase it and the same lady told me i couldn't buy it because it was for my brother and he was underage. So my question is, can she refuse to sell me the video game even if i'm 18? I work in a grocery store and we can't sell cigarettes to minors but we can't refuse to sell them to someone who is over 18 even if we suspect they are for a minor. The only thing we can do is report them.

Me and my friends are wanting to make a video game. We to get pretty serious and make beta's and stuff and advertise and then finally start selling it and if it gets big enough (which it probably won't) then sell it to other game companies. I want to know a good one. Not one of those were you place trees and stuff and everything's pre-made. I want one where you make it from scratch. I want it to be somewhat easy considering not many of us have much game experience. One of them i think is pretty good at computers and i can learn and catch on pretty fast. As long as there are good tutorials online or something. I also want one where all of us could use it. Most software's have a code you enter so you can only have it on one computer. Is there anyway where you can all have a shared account, or even better, linked accounts where you each have your own account but if youe edit a level or something it will still be edited on the other accounts. You know what i mean. Please help, we really want to do this. We know it will take a while to make.

So i want to ask the experienced video gamers out there, for someone like me, who does not want to spend a fortune, but wants a good system that will play the new games and not break on me in 3 months or overheat & turn into a matchstick (which i heard some do) - i am into mainly the action, shoot-em up type games, probably will get games like call of duty, things where i can shoot & blow lots of things up - i grew up (don't laugh i am old, i know) on the old original shooter games like wolfenstein, blake stone, doom, etc

Ive had this problem for the past 5 days or so, before then everything was fine. What happens is after 15 minutes of watching a movie, or playing a video game i get a blue screen of death. If i just surf and read text it doesn't seem to happen, or as much. This is incredibly annoying as i pulled my computer apart and back together again, and removed the hard drive and formatted another and installed a fresh copy of windows 7 on it just to try to fix the problem, and it still remains. I tried switching between 2 identical 2 gig ram sticks, and the same problem happens so i doubt it's the ram. The error that comes up changes, sometimes it's " fault_in_nonpaged_area ", sometimes it's fltmgr.sys, or irql_driver_not_less or_equal"

Whenever i run any game or a video in full screen or semi full screen, the computer instantly comes up with a screen full of artifacting for about 10 seconds, then restarts the computer. I've run cpu z, gpu z, and realtemp to see if there was some kind of thermal issue but the gpu core never goes above 58 before a crash, cpu sits at 32-38. All the ram has already been swapped out along with the power supply, hard drive and im in a very large and fan friendly case. At one point if i didn't restart the computer it wouldn't give me any trouble, but now it doesn't matter how many parts i re-seat or how many times i reboot, it happens every time without fail. Nothing appears in the windows event logs, and there are no blue/green screens. This has happened in windows vista 32-bit and windows xp pro so the os has nothing to do with it. I don't want to drop 500 bucks on a new vid card if i don't have to and i don't have a spare board or vid card laying around for further testing. Rig: bfg gtx 280, vista 32-bit home prem, 4*1gig dual chan, 650watt psu, intel core 2 duo e8400 3. 0ghz, systemboard: asus p5q series
Not overclocking, all bios/firmware updates installed, drivers have been updated and down-dated to newer/older versions.

Integrated Video Card Can Use Ram As Video Memory?
I want to know more about my video card(intel integrated extreme graphics 2 [circa 2003]) cause i don't understand, i tried googling for a while with no result:
1) how much exactly video memory does it have?
2) i heard that if it's integrated, i can go to the bios and make ram be shared with my video memory in case my video ram isn't enough? Is that true? Is that true with my integrated card too?
3) i'm of course going to buy a video card(agp type) capable of handling at least pixel shader 2. 0. If question 2 is "yes", can the new graphic card also be shared to use ram if necessary?
Depending if my integrated video card can use ram as video memory, this will help me decide whether i should get more ram or an agp video card that has a lot of video ram

Video Card For Improving Video Quality On 22'' Monitor
I am seeking for help to improve the video quality of the 22'' monitor. It's samsung t220 and the max resolution it supports is 1680 x 1050. Currently, it's connected through vga with the onboard intel integrated graphics. Say if i connect a video card and then connect monitor through dvi, will i be able to see considerable improvement in the video quality? Please advise how do i get the best out of the monitor. Also, can i see hd content on this monitor? It does support hdcp. And i found this ati radeon 4350 hd video card - which looks decent enough for movies and casual stuff. I don't plan to game on this machine. Is this card fine for my purpose?

Mouse Lag In Warcraft 3 / Wow
Since a few days i got problems with a wierd mouse delay in wow / warcraft 3, i still play the mod dota alot. I googled a little, i found some forums where others noticed the same problem. By following some steps by disabling smooth mouse and enabling hardware cursor in wow advanced options i managed to remove my mouse lag in wow, but it is still present in warcraft 3. I got the problem ever since i got my new nvidia 6200 graphic card. Other topics with people with the same problem:

Warcraft Lags On Dell Inspiron
Warcraft lags on my brand new dell inspiron. Has nothing to do with my internet because it does it offline too? Like i said. I just got a brand new dell inspiron and installed warcraft onto it. Whenever i play the game i hit huge spikes and the game freezes for a few seconds then returns to normal. This has nothing to do with my internet because i have the same problem offline. I figure there is something that needs to be fixed on my computer.

Windows Only Detects One Of Multiple Wd My Book World Edition Ii Drives
I'm having issue with these wd my book world edition ii hard drives. I have 3 wd mbwe ii's that i connect to my router (d-link dir-655) via network cables, which are all detected by the router and identified properly as three separate drives via their mac addresses. However, windows 7 or vista (both x64) can only detect 1 of the 3 drives (whichever of the three drives is connected first). The drive appears in the network as "mybookworld, " regardless of which drive i connect to the router or even if i connect the drive to my pc directly. I'm unable to rename the drive as there's no option for it through right clicking and bringing up the contextual menu. The only options available are open, explore, or create shortcut. The wd discovery software failed to detect any of the drives even when windows was at least detecting one of them. Can anyone suggest how i can ensure that all three drives are detected properly and under different names?

Warcraft 3 - Frozen Throne - Cursor Is Slow
Ever since i got my geforce fx 5500 (256mb), i've been bothered by a relatively slow cursor in wc3:fz. It makes playing the game much less entertaining. Before i got that video card, i had a geforce mx 420 (64mb), and it would play fz beautifully, with no cursor problems whatsoever. Of course that's driving me nuts because the 5500 is supposedly much better. Besides, wc3:fz is not 'that' video power demanding. I've tried to play it on the 'lowest' graphic options, but there was no difference in cursor speed. On any graphic setting, there's no lag or performance issues at all; only the cursor is slow. Is there anyway to work this out?

Overheating Video Card
I recently was given a xfx geforce 6800 128mb as a gift but there is a problem. After i installed the card and drivers and started to play games like doom 3 or counter-strike, the games look awesome but after 5 mins a whole bunch of artifacts appear in the screen. So after i opened the case and the touched the video card i noticed that it was really really warm. I have never overclocked the video card.could it be an overheating problem?
