Flashing Bios

I have a inno3d 680i mobo, im trying to upgrade the bios as i have reason to believe this is going to fix some compatibility issues with some ram. However the built in award flash in my bios does not seem to recognise a cd or usb, bootbale or non, with the new bios on. I dont have a floppy drive. I am using vista x64 which is why i think i cant see nvidia update centre when i run it, instead just the usual nvidia control panel.

Flashing Bios 8800gt

What is this "flashing"? I think it's updating using a flash drive? Am i correct? Since i have no knowledge on how to overclock i heard you could flash your 8800gt's bios to the 8800gt ssc speeds. How exactly do i do this?

Frozen Bios Flashing

I'm flashing an asus mobo. I was following the steps outlined here. I got to the point where it asked me to type in the name of the update file. Then it asked me whether i want to save bios (don't remember the wording exactly). I was out of patience so selected n. Then it prompted, "y to program, n to exit. " I typed in y. The prompt disappeared. Then it stopped. And that's it. There's no progress bar, it doesn't say "please wait" or anything like that. It seems like it hasn't even started yet, if there's no progress bar? But i can't be sure, i don't remember what it looked like last time i flashed it (successfully). It's been like this for probably 10 minutes now. Is it safe for me to hit the reset button? Seems i don't have any other options.

Flashing Bios - Insufficient Memory

Trying to update the bios on my machine and have hit a roadblock. The situation follows:

Chaintech 7kjd mobo / award bios v 5. 0
- Trying to update to a new version to fix a problem with my geforce mx 440 video card

The problem i'm running into is that the awdflash utility will not run under windows xp and booting into 'dos' mode doesn't work either. I don't have a floppy drive in this machine so that's not really an option. I've created a bootable cd with caldera dos but when i run the utility, i get an insufficient memory message and the program quits. It's late and i'm tired and have run out of ideas. Anyone have a clue as to how i can update the bios on this machine?

Bios Flashing A Stock Mobo

I was wondering if anyone knew anything about this. I have an emachines w3653. It has a motherboard that i have identified as a ecs 945gct-m3. Emachines product support page also confirms that this is indeed the motherboard, and the ecs website has a page for it, and motherboard matches exactly from the picture and specs. What i was wondering, is it possible to flash the emachines motherboard with the bios from this page: Tw/ecswebsite/products/productsdetail.aspx?Detailid=719&categoryid=1&detailname=manual&menuid=1&lanid=0

That would enable overclocking, and lots of other goodies that are of course not present in the stock emachines bios. I have flashed a few bioses in the past but they have always been simple upgrades, stock bioses that were meant for the particular board and machine exactly. I would think though that it would be safe to flash the bios with the ecs one since it is the exact same board. Any thoughts?

Flashing Bios With No Windows And No Floppy

I'm running an old box with an asus a7n8x-x motherboard, linux (ubuntu 7. 10 server) and no floppy drive and the time has come where i really need to flash the bios. At my disposal i have also a laptop running linux (ubuntu 6. 10) and ms vista. Both computers have cd burners. I have the latest rom downloaded. What do you recommend? My mobo isn't on the list of supported hardware to flash from linux. Should i make a freedos bootable cd and. ? Boot to it, eject the cd and put in another cd with my rom and hope it will recognize it?

Flashing Bios Asus K8vse Deluxe

I have an asus k8vse deluxe mobo and have tried to flash it with afudos, i have the new startup image, but the bios itself is still the *** american megatrends bios with nothing to work with. I tried using aflash and i get "cant find system bios' hook" when i try. I have also tried to do asus' windows flash tool, forget exactly what it's called, and i get the same results as i did with afudos. I switched the jumper to reset the cmos, took out the battery, took the ram out and back in, and i still can't get anywhere. Any ideas on how i can flash this bios so i can get to oc'ing? I have been trying for a few days now, i could really use a hint!

Asus L1n64-sli Ws Bios Flashing

I just bought one of these boards and have the intention of flashing the bios to allow me to use opteron processors on it; currently, it is limited to athlon fx 7x series processors. I do not have one of these processors; so my question is simple enough. Do i need a processor installed, or ram for that matter, to boot to floppy and flash the bios?

Any information on the procedure would help as well. Also, assuming i purchased an athlon fx 7x to install for the purpose of flashing the bios; could i do that and have the resulting bios incompatible with an athlon fx 7x?

Flashing Bios To Install Windows 7 Caused Blue Screen Error

I was having problems installing windows 7(currently running xp). My friend suggested flashing my bios. I did has he said. Now i'm getting blue screens. He said it could be the ram voltage so i played around with it. No luck. To make sure it was the ram causing the issue, i did an orthos stress test. 4 seconds after starting it. Error. I left my comp off overnight and it worked for about half an hour this morning without a blue screen. Anyone know what i should do to fix this? My system specs should be up to date on my profile if you need any of those.

Lcd Monitor Flashing

I got this 24" lcd monitor here and have a problem with it. When i got it, i hooked it up and i would get no input on the screen from any source (vga/dvi/component). The "no cable source" thing would come up with a weird flashing behind it (like the backlight flashing). Anyway, i (stupidly) got someone to open the screen up and saw the inverter had two blown caps, so replaced them. Now when they opened the screen up, they forgot to undo a connection and it totally ripped off (see images). As you can see, there are some pins broken completely. I managed to connect it back together, ignoring the four or five snapped pins. So put the screen back together, not expecting much. Plugged it in and guess what, i get a picture! (Probably corrected from fixing the inverter). So i can see and run windows fine from this screen. Yet i still get the constant flashing and there are blotches around the screen with different coloured pixels. I am thinking the blotches are appearing because of the dead pins. Now what gets me is the flashing. Is that a dead backlight or something?

To describe it in more depth: it flashes a few times a second, so its really quick. Its like a halogen dying. When it flashes, it doesnt flash off, but flashes to a low brightness. When i turned the brightness from 100 down to 0, the flashing almost completely stopped (flashed once every minute or so). So what i want to know:

1. Whats causing the flashing?
2. Would the funny blotches on the screen be from the pins?
3. What board is that that has been snapped (highlighted in red). What is it called? How hard are they to find?

I mean the pins dont bother me, as if worst comes to worst i can simply remove the pins completely and solder the wires straight onto the board. Its just, i dont want to do that if the flashing will still be there.

Screen Flashing And Changing Color

Not always, but sometimes, my screen will start changing to a purple-ish hue, and slowly darken, then ill get the flashing lines for half a second, then it will return to normal. This will repeat for about 5 minutes, stop, then start again at random times. I am on a fx 5900 128mb (nearly 2 years old), could it be crapping out on me, or possibly over heating, or is this monitor-related?

Fix For 5970 Multiple Monitor Flashing

Update: please note that i found that using your stock 3d memory clock speeds is usually required to eliminate the 'flashing. ' my sapphire 5970 has a stock 3d memory clock speed of 1010 mhz, so that is what i'm using here; your card may require different clock speeds for multiple monitor stability. Problem: when using multiple monitors on the radeon 5970 and a 2d desktop environment, one or more monitors exhibit flashing and artifacts, especially when moving windows around. This problem may affect other 5xxx series cards. This specific problem goes away if you run a 3d application in a window. If so, the below fix should solve your issue. 1. Open ccc

2. Unlock and enable overdrive if they arenít already. 3. Go to options/profiles/profiles manager. Create a new profile. Under composition make sure "ati overdrive" is checked. Save and close, do not activate. 4. In windows go to: c:users{yourusername}appdatalocalatiaceprofiles (you will need to have "show hidden files" turned on for this)

5. Open the xml document with the name of the profile you just created (notepad is fine)

6. Change the values of the clock and memory speeds to look like this (these specific values are what worked for me and my card, use judgment) edit only the bold values. Please note that if you have multiple gpus, there will be one entry per gpu that needs to be altered. (Target_1, target_2, and so on. )

Feature name="coreclocktarget_0"

Property name="want_0" value="40000"

Feature name="memoryclocktarget_0"

Property name="want_0" value="101000"

7. Save and close.go back to ccc and activate the profile you just created. *I'm finding that, after a restart, i'm having to switch to a single-display profile, then back to my working multi-display profile. Just a heads up. This will make the card idle at 400core, 1010 memory. (2d clocks are the "want_0" values. ) This solution was originally posted on the amd game forums by user eventhorizon. I found that i had to increase my memory clock to 1010 (1010 mhz) to get the 2d desktop stable, but that 400 mhz core clock was sufficient. Your mileage may vary. You can test if your new 2d clock speeds are activated by opening ccc and going to ati overdrive; it will show you your gpu's current clock speeds. If your desktop still suffers from flashing using multiple monitors try upping the memory speed a bit until it goes away.

Geforce Fx 5700 Ultra Monitor Flashing

I just upgraded my video card to the 5700 ultra and am having some problems. I have updated all of my drivers (agp, chipset, vid card, etc. ), But still have this problem. When i get to my desktop, the "my computer" icon is black and the screen will occasionally flash. I have tried different resolutions and refresh rates, but with no success. When i go into madden 2005, the game starts fine, but once i get a game started, some lines start to appear off of the players . It's very weird. All of this is kind of new to me, so any suggestions would be appreciated. Only other things i can think of is that the card may be bad (though it ran previously in another computer or the power supply isn't sufficient (i believe it's 460w).
