I ran diagnostics on my computer after it froze on the first screen when you switch the computer on (dell xps 430 vista (32 bit)) and i got the error code 2000-0142. From my search on the forums this says your hard drive is faulty and needs fixing. How much will this cost to get fixed? I'm thinking of taking it to the tech guys at pc world.

Two days ago, i was using my laptop, a dell inspiron 1420, then all of a sudden, all my programs just stopped working. I was still able to move the cursor so i tried to shut down the computer. I tried clicking the shut down button a number of times but nothing happened so i shut it down manually. When i tried to turn it on, it said "error loading operating system". I then tried to run diagnostics to see what's wrong then i got the error code 2000-0142 during the self check test. I found out that this is a hard drive problem so i tried booting from the windows vista cd but it still didn't work. I then put the hard drive into an enclosure to try to repair it but when i plugged it into another computer, only the second partition of the drive showed up, which is the 10gb "recovery" partition. I tried browsing the partition and it seemed to be working well. I went to disk management to see what happened to the remaining 150gb partition and it said "eisa configuration". I tried right-clicking on the partition but the only thing that appears is "help". I then tried to format the drive just to see if it will allow me to but it always gets an error. Is there a way to retrieve my important files from the other partition?

My brother's been tryimg to reinstall windows onto his hard drive but it takes forever during the format process.could this be a sign of a faulty drive? I'm thinking of running a hard drive boot up software to diagnose it and turning the data all to zeros. Before that, i would like to know what you guys think. Edit. Also, he purchased the computer about 3 months ago so i don't think age of the hard drive is an issue.

Yesterday someone came out and connected my computer to my home network. After they left and i got back to my computer, i found that my keyboard didn’t work. I found that in the device manage my keyboard's icon had an exclamation point next to it, and when i clicked on it it said:"windows successfully loaded the device driver for this hardware but cannot find the hardware device. (Code 41)". I assumed there was something wrong with my ps2 port, so i went out and bought a usb keyboard. No luck. So far i have tried: removing the driver and reinstalling it, removing the driver, unplugging the keyboard, plugging it in and installing the driver, removing the driver in safe mode (which i can access by the way; the keyboard stops working when the computer starts up. ), Trying different keyboards, and even removing sp2 (that solved someone on a different forum's problems), and nothings worked so far. I've also tried system restore, but i don’t know for sure if it restored my computer to a time earlier than when it was messed with. The person who connected me to the network is on vacation now, so i cant really contact them. I've scoured the internet (using the onscreen keyboard), and can't find anything helpful, also i forgot to mention that the buttons on the top of the keyboard work. (Buttons specific to the keyboard like media, favorites, volume etc).

I have 895mb of ram on my system now, but i started with 1gb? Anyways, i kept getting blue screens and they told me to use a new video adapter. I got a new video card and it reccomends 1gb of ram. It has a vga adapter that you have to connect your monitor to for it to work. I went into device manager and it said "this device could not start (code 10). " Then after some lagg, the computer froze. Is this a ram problem? And if it is, can i just buy one stick of 2gb ram instead of adding 1gb to the current 895mb? I have windows vista home basic 32-bit. Int pent 4 proc. 3. 0ghz. I went into system setup when it booted, and changed the primary video card to pci-e, which is what the new video card runs on. The video card is the radeon hd 3650 1gb ddr2. This is like my 3rd topic, i know. Bare with me, i keep running into like 2 different problems every day.

My friend has a asus m3a79-t deluxe, he's trying to install a wireless card. The drivers install fine and everything is hunky dory except for this error:
Your computer's system firmware does not include enough information to properly configure and use this device. To use this device, contact your computer manufacturer to obtain a firmware or bios update. (Code 35)
His bios is fully up to date. It just doesn't make any sense to me. The only possible solutions are "update the bios" which he has done. So what the *** is going on? Thanks in advance
Oh. He has vista ultimate 64 bit, 8gb of ram, phenom ii 940 (i think), nothing's overclocked.

I keep trying to connect my wii to the router, but i can't seem to get it working anymore. I get error code 52130 i think it was. The thing i am not sure about is that i am using a wireless card with a laptop, and plugging that into the "internet" port on the router. I am wondering if i would also need at least 1 computer on the port though because i don't think the router can have an ip address without it having a computer to connect to first. However, i have done it before, and i'm not sure how. I also have a modem, but no other internet to my home.

9 :: Keyboard Error: ( Code 39 ) On Windows Vista

I just popped vista back onto my computer (32-bit) to use, having heard of improved support for it. However, my keyboard shows up as "standard 101/102-key or microsoft natural ps/2 keyboard", and has "windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware. The driver may be corrupted or missing. (Code 39)" in the status box. Location states it as "plugged into keyboard port". The funny thing is, it worked fine the first few boot-ups, and now the keyboard does nothing in windows but works fine all the way up to the loading-bar splash screen when windows begins to load (after post and all that). I'm convinced this is some sort of driver issue or conflict, but i've tried reinstalling the default driver and enabling/disabling the keyboard, without any result. Does anyone know what to do? I don't want to just reinstall vista again, because this could easily recur since i have no idea what even caused it .

I recently bought some more ram for my comp, replacing the default 125 mb with 2 512 mb cards. I then turn on my wonderfully fast comp to find the keyboard no longer works. I had unplugged everything while putting in the new memory, so i figure that the plug in the comp is crapped out. When i look at all the hardware things, i find the keyboard, open the info, and under device status it says "windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware. The driver may be corrupted or missing. (Code 39)" so anyway, i figure the keyboard port is messed up. I go out to the trusty bestbuy, and buy a nice new usb keyboard (plugs into the usb not the keyboard port on the pc) i plug it in and run the installation, everything is okay. Then i try to type - nothing. The other buttons work on the keyboard, like the sleep button and the calculator (because we all know its too hard to hit the start button haha) the same problem comes up. I really need help figuring out how to get this freaking keyboard working.

I recently bought a new desktop pc, to replace a laptop that is constantly overheating. Until i buy a wireless dongle, i'm having to bridge the internet connection between the desktop and my old laptop to connect to my wireless hub. Everything works fine, however when i try to sign into messenger it gives me an error code (81000306)
I believe this is something to do with my bridged connection.

I've been running xp on a asus a8n-e motherboard for a good while without any problems. The other day i replaced my hiper type r 580w psu with a corsair hx 520w, and now the pc won't boot and beeps 1 long followed by 3 short. I've stripped it down to bare essentials (motherboard, vc, memory and cpu) but i get the same problem. The problem also persist when i reconnect the hiper psu. 1. Reseating everything. 2. Using any possible combination of memory stick(s) and slots. 3. Resetting the cmos. The rest of the pc is as per sig, with the exception for vista which will be installed when (if!?) I can sort this.

16 :: Hard Drive I/o Error
Posted On: 3 months ago

I recently started to do some upgrades to my dell 1720 laptop. Last year i got the latest 320 laptop hard drive available and it was working out pretty good. This year i decided to upgrade a little more. I got an intel 40 gb ssd and upgraded to 4gb of ram. I also got a second hard drive cage so i could run my os and programs off the ssd and keep the 320 for storing media and stuff. Everything on the ssd works perfectly and even the 320 works good wen it does work. But ever since i moved it to the second drive bay, reformatted it and everything and put all my data back onto it, i keep getting error messages every once in a while. It says it has encountered an i/o device error. Im not too sure what this means and i don't know how to fix it. The problem does temporarily fix itself wen i reboot but it only lasts for so long and ive found the second hard drive to be pretty unstable wen working with large files and such. Any help would be greatly appreciated so i can finally get my machine working fully again. Ive been stuck using an external hard drive for most of my files for now so i need to get this fixed.

Pc: dell dimension 4400
Os: win xp home
External hard drive: maxtor one touch 250
Bought in march, worked fine until two weeks ago. I turned off my computer for the night, turned it on in the morning and received these messages:
**Not accessible, the parameter is incorrect**
**The request could not be performed because of an i/o device error. **
The drive icon does show, the drivers , etc are all there and windows tells me they are operating fine. I have already spoken with maxtor and they were absolutely of no help. Other than wanting to reformat the hard drive . Which is out of the question. (I have 5 years of work stored in that hd, personal, legal and business) and must find a way to retrieve it. (Will not make personal comments about their support or policies. ) Grrrrrrrr. I have spoken to teckie types and tried several suggestions. None helped so far. I'm desperate, and would appreciate any expertise. And, if someone knows of an inexpensive recovery program. The data is all there, it was not deleted. I simply can not unlock the door.

When vista loads, it gives me a message telling me one of my hard drives need to be checked for consistency. If i let it run, it either freezes, or aborts with some kind of unknown error at some point (happens at different points in the process, randomly). When i finish booting into vista, the hard drive is there, but it needs to be formatted before it can be used. If i keep letting chkdsk run is there a chance it may be able to repair whatever the issue is? It seems to get progressively further, but how far away from completing chkdsk it is, i have no idea. Edit: actually, i'm going download wd lifeguard tools, and see if i can scan the drive first, and see what it tell me. Will update when done.

Now i can't boot up at all. It says there is an error coming from the hard drive and now it says there is another error saying it can't boot up because of an unexpected i/o error. Btw my primary harddrive is on a ide cable while i have 2 other hardrives (including my 1 tb) installed. I tried alternating the ports. But nothing is working. Just been trying to sort out my friends computer today, it would randomly bsod often, i finally managed to get xp installed fresh by using other parts. After xp was installed i put all of his parts together and everything was great. Then after a reboot i started having problems. Xp loading bar goes about half way bsod's then reboots, it does this everytime. I put one of my cpu's in and works first time everytime, they are both p4's 1 is 3ghz(problem one) and 2nd is a 1. 8ghz. Sumtimes when i press del to get into bios it would reboot and sumtimes it would go into bios. I tried the cpu in my comp and went into bios and the screen started going mish mash showing things it shouldnt. So my question is: do the following indicate a faulty cpu?
1. Bsod and reboots at xp loading screen
2. Bios screen interface shows anomalies
3. Cpu temp only 41-44 degrees

32 :: Faulty Computer

I've been having some trouble with my computer. When i press the power button the only thing that happens is the fans (and the sata devices) turn on. To be more specific, the case fans and the fan on the gpu turn on, while the cpu heat sink fan does not turn on. Actually, occasionally the cpu heat sink fan turns on, but very weakly. In addition to the fans, the motherboard's lights turn on, and the dvd drive (and i think the hard drive) turn on as well. Apart from that, nothing happens, nothing on the monitor, no post, no beeps, nothing. I don't know if this board has a built-in system speaker or not. See normally before the problem, when booting up the fans would spin for a few seconds, and the gpu fan would spin really fast and sound like a jet engine, and then a couple seconds later the system would post. Right now it's only reached the "jet engine" stage, so to speak. A small tidbit that may or may not be relevant is when i turn the thing back off, by hitting the psu switch, it goes off and then maybe 5 seconds later the blue light in the psu flickers for a second despite the switch being off. I know for a fact that the motherboard is not at fault. How? I replaced it, thinking that it was the cause, and now today, having just received the new one, the same problem is happening. Hence me making this thread. I really have no clue now which part i need to replace. I've taken apart and rebuilt the thing countless times so don't ask that. Unfortunately i don't have another computer which is compatible with these parts to individually test them, so i can't do that either. My intuition says it's either the power supply or the processor. But i really can't be sure. Any ideas?
Here's the current specs:
Q6600 quad core
2x2gb mushkin memory
600w ocz power supply
Gigabyte ep45-ud3p motherboard
Evga 8800gt gpu

33 :: Dell Vostro Won't Detect Sata Hard Drive

All of a sudden, it won't detect his hard drive. It's a 250gb wd sata hdd. If i go into the bios, it doesn't list the hard drive in the 4 sata ports, just the dvd drive. By running the on board diagnostic, it doesn't detect the hard drive either. I tried a different port on the board and a different sata cable, neither of which fixed the problem. I can hear the drive spinning up and down over and over again. It doesn't do anything from there. Ideas? Is just the interface of the drive somehow randomly gone bad?
Edit: also, i tried a different sata power connector from the power supply that was powering the dvd drive. That didn't work either.

34 :: All Ram Faulty In Acer Laptop

I have a friend's acer aspire 3100 laptop that was having problems, so i ran memtest86+ on it, and sure enough it showed an error in the ram at the end of the second test, and a slew of errors on a later test. The ram card in the laptop was a 200-pin 512mb ddr2 hynix pc2-4200. The laptop's cpu is an amd mobile sempron 1. 6ghz. There are two ram slots on the laptop, only one was in use by the hynix card. I tested the hynix card in each slot and received the exact same result in the memory test for each slot. The weird thing is i tested the same hynix ram chip in my hp mini 1000 laptop with the bios' memory check utility and the memory check utility that comes with windows 7 and it passed perfectly. I then tested other 200-pin ram cards i had that all pass on my hp mini 1000 on the acer. I have a 1gb samsung pc2-6400 card and a generic pc-5300 1gb ram card. I tested each card individually in each slot, and memtest86+ always showed the exact same problems in the exact same memory addresses no matter which card was in the acer. As an aside, if i try booting windows on the acer, it bsod's before getting to the desktop with any of few errors that are all characteristic of faulty ram (irq not less or equal, pagefault in unpaged area. )
So i have no idea what's causing this. All the symptoms of faulty ram, but the ram is fine, and my next guess would be a bad slot, but both slots show the exact same ram address errors.
