I have dell dimension 2350 with pentium iv 1. 8ghz cpu and 512mb of memory. The motherboard does not have a sata connection. So i installed pci adaptec serial ata raid 1210sa card with one 80gb sata drive. Now i need test the speed of the sata drive verses ide drive. Why Does Raid Make The Hard Drive Run Faster ?
I am a newbie at this and have never set my hard drives to raid. I have two 150 gb wd velociraptors but i have them set up as two separate drives. Why does raid make the hard drive run faster? I thought that the purpose of raid is to have data stored in the drives in an identical manner so that if one of the drive stop working, then you still have the other drive as a back up and all of the informations will not be lost. It kinds of counter-intuitive to think that running two drives and accessing data and writing data on the "two" drives would be faster. I thought that it would slower to "do things" on two drives because you have to work twice as hard.

Sata / Ide Drive Installation
My mate gave me his computer to upgrade for him as he wanted to have another hd for storage installed but i'm having a wee bit of trouble to get it installed !
He already has a hd installed with a sata connection and his dvd/dvd-rw drives were installed into ide 1. He bought a hard drive that wasn't sata but ide and i thought it would connect ok so i changed the dvd/dvd-rw drives to ide 2 and installed the hd in ide 1 with the jumper set to 'slave'. Switched the computer back on and it got as far as testing the memory and then nothing, couldn't even access the bios. So, i swapped the ide connections round so the hd was in ide 2 and the dvd drives were back into ide 1, switched the computer back on and it boots up fine but only recognises the sata - no second hard drive, no dvd drive and no dvd-rw drive. I can't figure out what's wrong with it. Its usually the other way around, and that sata isn't being recognised ! Anybody any ideas ?

Best Way To Clone A Hard Drive Ide To Sata
I just got a new hard drive and i want to simply clone it without reinstalling anything. I've been out of the loop as i usually just reinstall everything. The reason i'm not doing it this time is i'm going to wait till windows 7 is out, and i hopefully will also have the money to raid ssd's at that time as well. My old hard drive is ide, my new one sata. What's the best free way to go about doing this?

Connect A Ide To A Sata As Second Hard Drive
Hi, i would like some help with installing a second hard drive to my pc, i partitioned my hard drive to keep documents secure but it's now getting full, so, i would like to install an old ide disk (320gb) to my system as extra backup, my current hard drive is a sata, therefore it does not have the jumper cables to add the slave drive, my cd-rom drive connects through a jumper cable, it has a slave, can i connect the ide to this or it it for an extra cd-rom drive?
Do i have to set the ide as slave?
How would i go about doing all of this?
Anyone know any tutorials on how to connect a ide to a sata system?

Hdd Upgrade - Sata Vs Ide, Drive Rpm Speeds
I have a sort of old computer with an asus a7n8x motherboard, and it has 2x ide connectors, ultra dma 133/100/66/33. It seems like all the modern hard drives these days are sata standard. So how is sata better than ide? I don't know much about it. I browsed through some available ide hd's, and they seem to be the same in everything as the sata drives. You can get a 7200 rpm ide drive, just as you can for sata. So, apparently ide can handle data transmission just fine, right? So why did manufacturers make the switch?
Further, is there good reason for me to switch? I see that there are sata controller cards. So i could just pop one of those into my pci slot and start using sata drives even with my ide-equipped motherboard.correct? Should i do this? The only problem with ide is it looks like the hd selection isn't nearly as good. I didn't even see any 1tb drives with ide on newegg. The biggest one was 500gb. What's up with that? Is it because hd companies made the switch to sata and didn't bother developing larger ide drives past a certain point?
Finally, how big of a deal is the rpm speed on drives? Back when i built my computer i think they were all 5400rpm. Now many are 7200 rpm. What's the impact on system performance?

Intel System Doesn't Recognize Ide Drive
Its an intel celeron matx system, old drives were fried so i got a new 150gb e-ide drive and it does everything smooth until i get to the disk partitioning part in setup, and it says os doesn't detect a hard drive so i can't partition it and install it
I've tried this on windows me, windows xp 64, ubuntu 8. 10 (burned and official live cd) heck i even tried vista! They all do the same, so i tried switched the hdd ide cable to the optical drive ide port and vise versa. Any idea's?

How To Install Another Sata Hard Drive Into System ?
I'm installing another hard drive into my system, so i can put linux on it. When i opened the case i found out the the alienware system used sata not a regular ata hard drive. I never installed an sata hard drive with another one already in there. I'm buying another serial ata 15-pin female-to-4-power connector / serial ata adapter, which looks like this: and a sata hard drive, i also have extra serial sata cable which look like this, and i know go into the motherboard: but is that all i need? I'm confused on how the new hard drive is going to get power, or do i hook up the black end (14 pin) to the new hard drive then hook the 4 pin white part to the female port on the far right hand corner of the old sata hard drive already in my system and thats it? Or do i just connect the connect the black 14 pin into the sata hard drive then connect the white end to that hanging power cord by my ram?

How Do You Make Download Faster?
Answer:- downloading faster is based on three main factors:
Speed:
Your internet speed is an obvious and big factor in just how fast you can get that directors cut of avatar. Unless you can afford to fork out the extra redies to upgrade your broadband, there's not much you can do here. Server side connection:
If you're downloading something that's sitting on a server in the next town, chances are you're gonna get a fast connection. Download something that has to pass through many servers around the planet, and watch the download speed drop off!
In short, you can only download something as fast as the hosting server can upload it. Bandwidth:
If you're already downloading the entire "best of queen" album, while playing counterstrike with 11 mates, talking on teamspeak and running msn, chances are good you downloads will crawl along at speeds reminiscent of the eighties, when dialup was king!
If you're downloading somethign and want it to be as fast as possible, close as many programs as you can that will simultaneously use your internet. This includes, but isn't limited to, msn, skype, teamspeak, any mmorpg, other downloading programs like limewire, bittorrent etc. Also, other computers that share the internet connection through a common router will also put a drain on the available bandwidth if these computers are also downloading data.

Make Internet Faster On Powermac
How can i make my powermac (10. 5. 8/os 10) run faster? Connecting to the internet is really slow. I have dsl level 3 do i need a higher level so i can download and upload faster!
Answer:- internet speed is dependent on your isp subscription. Sometimes when the isp says "up to 1mbps speed", you rarely get that maximum speed. Fast subscription package = fast internet speed.

How To Make Internet Run Faster?
How can i make my internet run faster? Ok, guys " youre really going to have to bear with me, as this is quite a complex one. I am going to have to tell this big, elaborate story, to get to a rather common computer related problem, which i need help with. So, i downloaded some fonts, to use on microsoft word and they downloaded fine, they worked, everything was fine, until i logged off that night. The next day, however, when i went to log on to my computer, i found that all of my desktop icons had doubled in size and sorted themselves into alphabetical order. Basically, everything on my computer had grown in size, as if i were looking at my computer through a magnifying glass. I didnt have a clue how to resolve this problem. So, i restarted my computer. Nothing changed. So, i ran a system restore, returning my computer to the state it had been in 24 hours before, when i didnt have any of the downloaded fonts. This fixed the problem. However, it messed up my anti-virus, only temporarily. What happened was my anti-virus had upgraded itself in the past 24 hours and i had forced the computer to return back to its past state, before the update. So, the anti-virus database was messed up. I was able to resolve the problem, though. However, from that moment onwards, my internet now runs extremely slow. Youtube and dailymotion, two sites that always worked, without fail, have stopped loading videos. The invisionfree boards that i frequently visit do not always load entirey, if at all. When they do load, theyre very slow. Basically, my internet in all of its entirety is not working all that well. My msn is also affected, briefly. It will not always run the first time. Sometimes, it takes two, maybe three attempts, to get it to work. I have taken the computer to the shop, but they told me that i would have to be without it for two, maybe three weeks and honestly, i am not prepared to be without it for that long. Its just not practical. I have tried making sure that my adobe reader and my java script are up to date, in case theyre to blame for my internets slowness, but nothing appears to have changed. I am literally running on empty, here. I am hoping that someone will be able to help me.

Make Windows 7 Connect To Internet Faster
How can i make windows 7 connect to the internet faster? I have windows 7 with a built in wireless network receiver, and whenever i try to connect to a wireless network with a wep password, it takes about 30 seconds to connect. I have comcast high speed internet with only 1 other computer (a mac) using the connection. Both are wireless, but the mac can connect to it instantly, however my pc laptop which is only about 10 feet farther from the router takes much longer. Is there any way i can fix this?

Use Cd Drive Ide Cable To Connect Hard Drive To Mobo
Well, i'm assembling an old via computer with a 2700+ chip. I have a 40gb ide hard drive i want to connect. Right now, the cd drive is connected to the mobo with an ide cable. This same ide cable also has another female connector on it that would fit into my hard drive ide port. My question is whether i can just hook the drive right into this ide connector already on the cable that's connecting the cd drive to the mobo, or if i need to get a second individual ide cable and then connect the drive to the second ide port on my mobo. It would be much easier if i could just use this one ide cable to connect both to the same mobo port.

Backup To Internal Ide Drive Or External Drive ?
My asus p5b-3 mobo has internal connections for 2 sata drives and 1 pata drive. I currently have a wd 74 gb raptor (sata) used for os and programs, a samsung 320 gb (sata) for data, and a 300 gb seagate (ide) for backup. The seagate is just about full so i'm looking to replace it. The biggest internal ide drive i see on newegg is a wd caviar blue 500 gb drive. (3 year warranty) ~ $88 w/shipping. The external drives go well beyond what i need in terms of storage capacity. But i am concerned about heat failure issues. I've had problems with drives in an external enclosure fail before. Which i think was related to heat issues. But that was a 3. 5" drive in an external enclosure. Perhaps the 2. 5" drives connected by usb/firewire do not run so warm. I don't know. My p5b-e mobo has an external firewire port. From a performance and durability perspective, would i be better served by an internal ide drive or an external usb or firewire drive? Maybe a 2. 5" laptop drive in an external enclosure? I think that would run cooler than a 3. 5" drive in an external enclosure. Or maybe a wd passport type drive? I would also like to have more than 1 year warranty too. I'd prefer to stay in the vicinity of $100 +/-. What do you suggest for a 500 gb to 1 tb storage drive? I backup several computers to it with drives ranging from 60 gb to 320 gb. It's taken me about 3 years to load up the 300 gb seagate. So i'm comfy with 500gb to 1 tb for the next few years.

How To Make Pata Drive As Hard Drive 0 ?
I got an ecs af1 lite mobo and currently has two pata hard drives (a 40gig and an 80gig for hard drives 0 and 1 respectively), a dvd rom and a burner. My hard drive 0 (40gig) is already failing and was thinking of replacing it with my 80 gig drive and then replace the 80 gig drive with a sata instead of a pata. I got no problems as regards the connections and stuff. What makes me wonder is how could i make the pata drive as my harddrive 0, and make it as my os drive. I always move the documents and settings folder to the other drive which then makes it easier for me to reformat the os drive when it starts to mess up. My question is, do i need to do some settings so i could make the pata drive as hard drive 0? Does pata takes precedence over sata or is it the other way around?
I have read a few forums here and there and always, the discussion is about making the sata drive the os drive. The reason why i want the pata drive to become hard drive 0 is so that the boot loader stays in it and not on the sata drive, and it makes it easier for me to reformat the os drive when needed without having to worry about the boot loader in the other drive.

Seagate Drive Failed - System Unable To Read From The Drive
The drive in question is a seagate barracuda 7200. 11 500 gb, with original firmware being sd15. As i've got to know of their "built-in failure", i've immediately flashed the firmware to the current available sd1a. I thought it will prevent from the drive failing. Now a few days ago i was happily using my computer without a hitch. At one moment os was unable to read from the drive and rendered it unusable (the gui at least), and the mouse cursor freezes for a few seconds in one second delays. This behaviour stopped immediately as i disconnect the drive from the motherboard.could that have been caused by me hot plugging the drive a few times? Or is it the drive itself and nothing can be done now? The system will boot with the drive connected but it will take very long. I've got maximus formula motherboard and two 500 gb's in raid0 for os partition. One wd 500 gb, one seagate 1tb, and the drive in question.

Internal Sata Drive Shows Up As Removable Drive
My sata storage drive on my p4p800 dlx sys. Started showing up as a removable drive. I noticed the other day that it showed up as a removable usb device. Today the drive disappeared momentarily but then showed up as a usb device again.

Connecting Sata Drive And Backup Current Drive
My motherboard is k8t neo2 series atx mainboard and i am having 80 gb sata hard drive. There are 2 sata ports (sata1 and sata2) and my current hard drive is connected to sata2 port. I want to backup my existing hard drive (mirror image) into a new sata hard drive using ghost or any other imaging application. So i can connect my new hard drive into sata1 port and will it work? After connecting my new hard drive paralleled into sata1 and booting windows from my old hard drive, will the new hard drive be recognized? Should i need to format my hard drive and then use ghost application or directly i can use?

Why Is A 2nd Sata Drive Making Both Sata's Unrecognized ?
I just removed my old ide hdd with xp and replaced it with a sata drive and installed vista on it. Everything was fine, until:
I installed a second brand new unformatted sata hdd. With the second drive installed neither of the new drives are recognized and windows won't boot. Is it something obvious i'm missing?

Internal Sata Blu Ray Drive Plugged Into Sata
Alright, i'll make this short and sweet. I want to free one of my sata ports up so i can install another hard drive. My motherboard has a built in esata port on the back. Is it as simple as moving my blu ray sata cable to the esata jack on the back? Aesthetics mean nothing, this computer is hidden.

Adding A Third Sata Drive To An Existing Sata Raid Array
I have two 300gig sata drives set up in a raid 1 array. I want to add a third sata drive separate from the raid array so i can extract data from it. Any info would be appreciated.

How To Make Hard Drive More Silent ?
I just got new seagate 250 gb sataii hard drive. Seagates have been usually pretty quiet. I can't say that this is noisy but it's noisier than other computer. What is the best and cheap way to reduce noise from hard disk? Or is there any? My case is antec sonata ii.

How Do I Make My Hard Drive Removable In Xp ?
I have recently built my own p4 machine (specs outlined at the end of message), and am attempting to configure my second hardrive (this is configured as the primary slave on the system) as a removable device as it is housed in a caddycase. The purpose of this task is not to enable me to have a multi-boot system , (as the primary master is designed to just run the operating system and all associated programs) but to enable me to remove the primary slave (second hardrive) at will, which is designed to just store all my data & is not dependent on the system to run, as the primary master hardrive has enough capacity to do this. Also once this system has been configured so the primary slave can be removable, how do i then configure another system which may be using xp or 98 to then be able to use this hardrive in the same respect as configured on this system?

How Do You Know Which Drive Fail In 10+ Drive System ?
Just wondering, in a self build whs system that has more than 10 drives, if the whs management console says one drive fail, how do you find out which one failed? Assuming not all drives have led or health indicator.
