Computer Problems - Double Boot Up, Double Post, Disk Error

The problems i am experiencing are having a boot disk error, a double boot up (double post) almost as if its not successful trying to boot up. Also. My bios seems to be changing when i boot up, under boot sequence it wont even show the hard drive is there at times, and changes other boot options. Does anyone possibly know what this problem could be? I have tried replacing the cmos battery, but this does not solve anything.

Usb Flash Drive Error When Double Click To Open

I have a kingston usb flash drive and formatted it to ntfs on vista. Now my question is related to xp. Every time i plug it into a xp machine it will run the auto-play but whenever i go into my computer and try to double click it, it gives me an error saying windows cannot find g:m.exe. But if i right click and select open it will open up. I am wondering why it would be giving me an error with the double click method and not with the other one. I don't even know why it would be looking for an executable file on a usb flash drive. If anyone can give some insight please let me know.

Double Duty Headphones

Let me cut to the chase and manage expectations: i'm not an audiophile, but i like my audio to sound good. I have klipsch 2. 1s on my computer, and i like the way they sound. My issue is that i need a good set of portable headphones that can do double-duty by working well for a session of gaming (when things need to stay quiet in the aptmt) and work great with my zune while i walk to work. Here are the headphones i've tried:

Quietcomfort: given as a gift, and i quiet liked them (i know audophiles balk at me saying that). They were great with noise canceling, produced warm sound, and were easy/comfortable to deal with. However, they are bulky for traveling with. Sennheiser cx300: bought these after the qcs in search of good but mobile sound. Great sound, but are a huge pain in the ass to get fitted correctly (sometimes i nearly give up because it's so frustrating). Can take nearly 2 minutes to fit every time i want to wear them, and due to the extremely short cord can fairly easily tug out (do i have weird ears?!). Etymotic hf5: bought these after the cx300s, and i find them worse in almost every respect. More expensive, very little bass, extremely uncomfortable for any period of time. With all that said, where should i look next? Are there such things as "comfortable" and "quick" in-ear headphones? Does my perfect set of headphones even exist?

Raid 1 - Three Disks, Double Redundancy

My computer can hold 3 harddrives. I would like to have some redundancy for my system, but i would also like to have a large amount of space. Ideally i would like to be able to run raid 1 with three disks, but have only double redundancy. Meaning, i would like to combine three 500gb harddrives and get 750 mb of space out of it. Does anyone know if this is possible?

If the disks were broken into 250mb halves. Disk 1 would mirror one half with disk 2, and one half with disk 3. I know there is raid 5 that works with three disks, but i dont think the performance would be as good as this, since it requires a large amount of calculation for writes, and each block is only available on one disk (no mirroring). On the other hand, it would allow me to have a full terabyte of data. Any ideas?

Is Dual / Double Layer Dvd Important ?

I'm planning to build a new system for myself and was wondering if it is worth it to get a dual layer dvd+/-rw. My main priority is to get something that is efficient and will last me for many years to come. I've read an article on anandtech saying pioneer dvr108 is the best dvd+/-rw out. While it doesnt offer double layer, this nec does for about the same price. However, i read from consumer comments on newegg that the nec gets very loud when operating and pretty much drowns out the rest of the pc and i figured, thats pretty darn loud. So what do you guys think? If not these two, is there something better for <$100?

Windows Reports Double Actual Speed

I have a strange problem where xp is showing my system running over double it's actual speed in the system properties window. Eg. Intel(r) core(tm)2 cpu
6400 @ 2. 13ghz
5. 61 ghz, 2. 00 gb of ram

If i run cpu-z it reports the correct speed, however. Normally i wouldn't really care, but i'm having a problem where team fortress 2 runs perfectly smooth, but my movement speed is about 1/2 what it should be. Everyone else in the game moves at normal speed (although their movement looks choppy) and my framerate is around 200 fps, so i'm sort of pointing the problem at this weird speed thing. Anyone have any idea what could be causing this?

Switchable Double Output With 2.1 System And Headphones

I know little to nothing about higher quality hardware/software. First, my sound card is the audigy 2 zs. I own a set of sony mdr-v700dj's as well as my logitech z-2300's. I hear that either through the audigy software or other software, there is a way to have my 2. 1 system hooked into the regular analog port, and then have my cans plugged into an alternate port, such as rear left or rear right, and be able to switch between them via software. The reason i am asking this is because i hear that you lose sound quality by plugging headphones into the port on your speakers volume control or otherwise, and it is always best to plug sound hardware straight into the source (sound card or receiver, whatever. )

Any insight on this issue would be greatly appreciated.

Hdd Not Found On Boot = Disk Error

I recently received a western digital 160gb, as a replacement for a broken western digital 120gb, from western digital. However on boot the hdd is sometimes not found and instead a little clicking noise can be heard, which in turn leads to the primary slave not being found and then a disk error. Usually if i simply turn it off then back on again, then it works fine however sometimes i have to do this multiple times, sometimes i have to turn it off and leave it for a few minutes and sometimes i have to open the case and push all the cables into the back of the hdd and dvdrw a bit more. To me the cables don't feel as though they've come loose and so really this is an exercise of ritual rather than anything constructive, yet it seems to do the job. Once the hdd is recognised the pc works fine and dandy but i'd like to avoid this failure as it is happening more and more. Is this an issue with the cpu, data cables, power cables, hdd, dvdrw, ram?
My system is an asus pundit w/ intel 2. 8ghz, dual 512mb ram, western digital 160gb, sony 8x dvdrw.

Mouse Single Click Does Double Click

I used different mice (one with rubber ball and another optical) and both give me the same problems. The rubber ball mouse was connected via ps2 and the optical is usb. When i click-drag, two different situations happen. It's either i'm not able to drag at all (as if the mouse button was let go before i drag, but i'm sure my finger's pressed down on the left mouse button), or i get an incomplete click-drag (aka, the mouse acts like i released the left mouse button while dragging. )

Sometimes, the partial click-drag happens, and without letting go of the left mouse button, another area is click-dragged (along the mouse pointer path). It doesn't matter what application i'm using - word, photoshop, programming language editors, even trying to highlight text on ie's address bar is a gamble. I checked all my hardware configurations in control panel | system and windows doesn't show any irq conflicts or corrupt drivers. It says "this device is working properly" for my mouse and all usb ports. There are times that when i single click, the mouse "quantum-jumps" to a different location on the screen. Then i can drag the mouse from there. This doesn't happen very frequently but it's frequent enough to slow me down in the things i need to do. The interrupted drag happens probably around 90% of the time i try to perform the task. Then there's that "evil single click" that acts as a double click. If i were in ie, clicking the back button once will take me two pages back. This evil single click is probably the cause of why i'm unable to click-drag effectively.

Computer Wont Boot - Hard Disk Indicator Light Stays On

I have hibernation enabled on my computer. The other day i turned it on and it resumed normally. I used it for a while and then left it. When i went back and turned it back on it wouldn't boot. The hard disk use indicator light stays on. The monitor displays a no signal or cable disconnected screen. I listened to the hard drive and it does not seem to be doing anything. The dvd drive also does not eject. I have tried removing each component hd, dvd, and floppy individually to see if it is caused by one of them. This did not solve the problem. I have double check all of my connections and they are all in there firmly. Normally when i boot up i get a screen from the vid card that counts the ram. Then it goes to the asus screen where i can enter the bios setup. Then it goes to windows. Neither of the first two screens ever appear. I have checked my power supply. It is getting 120v in. At a 4 pin power dongle i get 12v dc out. I don't know what else to try.

Disk Boot Failure. Insert System Disk And Press Enter

Just built my first pc and configured the bios etc and get the following message:

Boot from atapi cd-rom
Disk boot failure. Insert system disk and press enter. I think this means that i have to insert a boot disk for the cd-rom drive into the floppy disk drive, to install the drivers for it. Can someone confirm this? Also my cd drive is a philips 52x32x52 cd-rw which came with no floppy disks for installation at all, so i am not sure how i can setup the cd drive without an operating system etc.

Disk Boot Failure, Insert System Disk And Press Enter

I'm just usng my computer as a normal computer user would use one's computer. Surfing the web, instant messaging programs and the like, then my main harddrive makes a low click sound, then a slightly higher click sound after about half a second, then windows stops responding, then less than a second after my system achieves full lockup. So i'm like, ok, that's weird, and i reboot. I boot into bios and make sure it's not set to turn off the harddrives for any reason, and when i see that it isn't and there are no other wonky settings, i boot windows (xp pro sp2 .net) into safemode and just to make sure, start a virus scan, while that's working i look and make sure drive indexing is turned off (it isnf't on the main drive, so i turn it off) and that power save things are set to always on, and that's all ok, so while i'm waiting for the virus scan to finish, it does the click thing again, locks up, so i'm like *** and i reboot again, this time it gets to the ascii loading bar before the animated startup screen before the login prompt, and it does the click thing and stops, so i reboot again, and this time it gets to "verifying dmi pool data. " After detecting the drives and whatnot, does the click thing and stops right there, then after a minute or so i see "disk boot failure, insert system disk and press enter". So i sit there getting madder by the second and press enter, then it gives me a blank screen and that message again, and that's where it sits right now as i type this (but once i post i'll turn it off)

So i was running a virus scan, avg free edition, and it scanned the registry and the mbr for viruses and didn't find any, so i dunno, this either is a virus that i don't have a definition for, or some random progressive hardware failure, or my computer decided to crap out on me randomly.

Insert System Disk And Press Enter, Disk Boot Failure

Looking for suggestions for what to do next. I've built my first from scratch computer using:

Gigabyte ga-8i915p duo-a motherboard
P4 630 3ghz 800mhz fsb 2mb l2 cache processor
Maxtor 200gb eide ultra ata/133 hard drive
2x crucial 1gb ddrii 533 memory sticks

From my old system
Dvd rom

It seems to post ok, but i then get the message

"Disk boot failure, insert system disk and press enter"

I've tried the new copy of windows xp bought for this build, and also the disks that came with the board and the hard drive. Each time the same message comes up. I've searched through all the documentation that came with everything, the net, and some books, nothing i try works. Can anybody help please?

Pc Will Not Boot, No Post Beep

My wife and i have matching custom built pc's. Recently the liquid cooling system in her pc needed to be flushed and refilled. I removed the mobo from the computer, pulled the cooling system from the cpu, flushed and refilled, cleaned and prepped both heatsink and cpu and applied new thermal compound, reassembled the system and turned it on. First time after flush it ran fine for about 10 minutes, then shut down normally (on it's own). Since then it has not booted properly. The indicator light on the mobo is illuminated, showing that there is power. Upon pressing the pwr switch, all devices begin to run, all fans, drives, and keyboard/mouse turn on, but the bios never starts to boot, and no post beep sounds. I am thinking that it is most likely the mobo or cpu but was hoping that someone could post an alternative here that i could try before shelling out the $200-$300 for replacement parts as everything is past warranty (by like 3 months).

No Boot, No Post, No Video

It will not reach post when booted. I switch my pc on and all hardware loads eg (sound cards, network cards hdd's etc) but it wont pass the post, or even reach it. The hdd light blinks once then blinks again where it will then stay on. If i just plug in my primary hdd, it will blink once and then stay on. Im also sure that the fdd will not boot either, or in any case, read or test/detect its presence. But the monitor light still blinks, as it has not detected the machine or the video card.

Xp On Boot Up Goes To Post Screen And Then Freezes

Xp home will now not boot up. The first problem i noticed was a pop up that warned me that my hard drive was nearly full depite having 8gb free. I then got the message again the next day. I did a virus scan, restore, scandisk etc, all the usual things. It now wont boot beyond the post screen and just freezes. I tried another psu, changed the motherboard, checked the ram all to no avail. I tried the hd in another computer and it worked after several boots. I did a xp repair, and it worked on the other pc. When i put it back in mine it crashed again at the same point!

Abit At8 Won't Boot - Post Code 90

I've had this problem with my system since i built it, but it seems to have gotten worse lately. When i start up my system, it powers up but doesn't post. The code on the motherboard led display is 90 (which corresponds to "completed uguru initial process: award bios taking over boot job") but it hangs there indefinitely. If i do a reset, it switches over to code f0 (which just says "button rest") and then hangs there indefinitely. Usually, if i do some esoteric combination of hitting the reset and power buttons, it will eventually post correctly (i know this sounds ridiculous, but it's true). But i can't seem to replicate it now. Any help is appreciated. I've swapped all sorts of hardware in and out including the memory and the cpu and it doesn't affect this whatsoever. -Athlon 64 3500+
-Abit at8
-Kingston hyperx 4x 1gb
-Asus en9800gtx+

Is there a trick to get into the set up screen?

Xp Does Not Boot From Hard Disk

I have bought a new hdd (ata), with jumper on master. I did installed xp professional sp2 (genuine licensed) once, this morning, everything was ok. After installing xp, i have booted from hdd without problems and even i did some small disaplay changes (resolution, colors, things like that), but i have installed nothing else). I've closed the os, closed the pc and went out for about 1 hour. When coming back the system refused to boot again from hdd. As i had nothing else installed on hdd except the xp, i decided to boot from cd, format again the partition and reinstall the xp. Surprise: the hdd is visible (bios sees it), is to be formated, xp files are copied on the c: partition as normal, no errors, but when first time the installing program needs to re-boot, it can not re-boot from hdd, and keeps booting from cd again and again. Any ideas?

Emachine - No Boot Disk

I've been working on this old emachine for a woman down the street and i finally got it running but it's acting a bit strange. She called me up today and said it tells her she has "no boot disk". Now, i know i was just there and had windows xp boot up. So i go there, turn it on. And boot up normally. So i make sure everything else is working. I turned it off and on a few times, everything was normal. I left and an hour later she calls me back. "It's a black screen that says "no boot disk" on it". She says she didn't turn it of/restart or anything. I'm trying to get a handle on what's wrong here. I can't get a handle on it because i'm never there when something goes wrong. It's a 3100+ sempron with 256 mb ram and a 100gb ide hdd. Integrated sound, network, and graphics (chrome s3 i think). Any ideas? Is it possible that her psu is shutting down and resetting her boot settings? I'm sure the hard drive has a recovery partition (but that should also be bootable). Maybe her psu and the motherboard batter are both hosed. I don't know anymore lol. Any ideas are appreciated.

Use Usb As A Dos Boot Disk

Is there any way to make this work? I can get it to boot from it, but the only commands i can get to work are fdisk and format. It keeps searching for files on my a: drive. Is there a way to modify the .ini files so i can create a fully functional boot disk? I'm trying to completely eliminate the need for a floppy drive. Also, is there a way to make a bootdisk that can format with all the popular file systems such as ntfs or linux file system?
