How to speed up my internet connection? I just got a new laptop and for some reason its running extremely slow, like . 5 mbps, this is not normal, my old laptop got much higher then that, i have two sources of internet, one is using my blackberry as a modem and the other is at home, both ring in at . 5 mbps, why? I checked and im only using 50% of my ram at most, i don't have a lot of stuff running, just 3 tabs in google chrome. Is there a setting i can change on my laptop? I assume that is has to do with the laptop.

Why is my internet connection speed so different to what i am paying for? I am paying for 25, 000gb download speed but i don't have that. When i click on my lan settings in windows it says i am only connected at 100. Mbps. Also after testing my connection at speedtest.net it tells me that my download speed is only 1. 32mb/s. I am using the modem that my "isp" provided me with when i upgraded my connection, so why is it so different to what i am paying for?

Speed Up Broadband Internet Connection
How can i speed up my broadband internet connection? I have broadband internet, and it works really well when just browsing the web. But, when i download anything larger than a picture or a song, it doesn't work! It will download a few kb very quickly (sometimes not even that much), then just stop, and i have to pause and resume the download. Its not because of my firewall, i've cleared my cache, and it does this on any browser i use, and when using download mangers/accelerators. I've tried almost everything to fix it, but it just doesn't work. I also know it's not my computer, because when i'm on a different connection, my downloads work fine. Please help! If you need more info, just let me know.

Wireless Internet Connection Vary In Speed & Signal Strength
What would cause my wireless internet connection to vary in speed and signal strength? So i have a dell and connect through high speed internet cable, broadcasting wireless through the house. When i log on, the speed is usually very low (24 mbps) and the strength is low. Eventually it makes its way up to 56 (?) Mbps and a very good signal strength. Is this my issue with the computer/wireless or an issue with the cable company?

Internet Speed
I have high speed internet through cox communications in louisiana. I started having trouble with my internet cutting in and out so they sent a technician to fix it. After he left my internet was going very slow so they sent someout over that and it was found i was only getting 0. 9-1. 2 mb/s and they told me that that is very slow i should be getting between 10-12 mb/s well it has been a month and they have send 5 people out and i have talked to 4 people over the phone all who say that that speed is way to slow and they were trying to fix it. Now i call back today and the guy tells me no that is the speed you are supposed o get thats all you pay for if you want faster internet you have to pay for the upgrade for 45$ a mo. He is the first person in a month who has told me my internet is supposed to be this slow. It has never been this slow in the year and a half i had had service with them. So is this a normal speed and were the 9 other employees who i have talked to and came out wrong and this one guy right? Because it has never went this slow before.

The rest of the time, sites as simple as google can take up to 30-45 seconds to load, and the internet seems to go from broadband to dial up. I don't really understand it, streaming seems to be okay more often than not - using things like megavideo or bbc iplayer. And the wifi connection speed is 54mbps, network utilization is generally under 1%, but i think i'm right in saying that's not too bad because it's a proportion of the 54mbps. So it's led me to think that it may be a bandwidth problem? The problem occurs even when it's only my computer on the network, and nothing could be taking up all of the bandwidth. It's really starting to annoy me, the network driver says it's up to date.

Dsl Internet Speed Problem
My parents just got a new imac(running macosx i think its called). We have a dsl internet connection with a netgear wmr834m router. My parents mainly use this to talk to my nephew and uncle with either ichat or skype. Unfortuately the internet seems to be running a lot slower now than it was before. It takes a lot longer now to load a web page than before. It just kind of happened out of the blue. When my parents try to talk to my uncle on ichat, his audio comes in broken and his video is blocky and distorted. My uncle can view us fine but we can't view him. After a little while ichat even disconnects because it says it hasn't received data within the last 10 seconds. I tried checking the wireless connection. It says we have a 54 mbit/s connection with approximately 87000/53000 packets send/receive (i don't know if that helps at all). My laptop (dell inspiron 6400/win xp) loads pages even slower. It says i have the same connection with only 3000 packets sending and receiving. I just want to know what is going on with my parents internet connection. Hopefully you guys know what is going on and it is an easy fix. Let me know if you need any information i left out.

Alright, i'm very confused about this scenario i found myself in. I recently upgraded my internet speed (pasty.net is my isp) from 256kbps -> (32k) to 768kbps -> (96k) and i get a faster bandwidth when i load multiple youtube videos. I use bandwidth monitor which is a live bandwidth monitor that shows how much download/upload speed i'm using. So, i start loading a youtube video (any video) and my speed goes up to about 32k and darts down and up between 10k & 45k. Then, i open another youtube link of the same video in another google chrome tab and i look at my bandwidth usage and it goes up to about 100k, darts between 80k to 130k. Now, this is very confusing for me seeing as i don't get to use all my bandwidth to use on a single video without having to buffer every 10 seconds. Also, this happens on http downloads as well, i download a link and i only get a low speed of 32k average. I've tested my speed on the site my isp told me to test it on and it get's what i'm suppose to be paying for. But when i go to speedtest.net and it doesn't go up as high as i'm suppose to get. I just don't get it!
P. S youtube has it's own speed test and it even tells me i'm not getting what i'm suppose to be getting. It's not my computer i don't believe (checked on 3 computers with same results) and it's not my router i don't believe. But i can't really test that theory because of my isp has to register the router i use.

I called verizon tech support about getting a new computer. I'm concerned about establishing adsl connection. They told me all i had to do was hookup the computer. The connection is already established. Just gotta go online. That doesn't sound right to me. Can someone help me? My old verizon disk is no good. I connect to the internet wirelessly using my realtek rtl8187b wireless 802. 11b/g 54mbps usb 2. 0 network adapter and it seems to somehow just disconnect for no reason. The only temporary solution ive found is to re-install the driver in device manager, it fixes the connection but then goes off again later. It seems to happen when im doing things that require lots of bandwidth like downloading music, videos etc. Is there a solution?

I have charter internet, a linksys cm-100 modem, and an airport extreme simultaneous dual band wireless base station. Whether i am playing xbox, watching hulu on my macbook pro, playing an online game on my ipad, or browsing the web on my imac, the internet just randomly stops working, but i don't lose connection to the router and the router doesn't go from a green light to an amber light to signal a problem. If i leave it long enough, it will fix itself, but when i am mid game or video and i lose my connection it really aggravates me. To try and troubleshoot the problem i tried out a linksys wrt54gs v7. 2 to see if that would have similar problems, and it has. The modem lights all stay lit up as usual as if there is no problem there. It cannot be that 3 routers (i bought a new airport extreme when my old one was having this same problem thinking it was that router) have the exact same problem. What is my next troubleshooting step? Plug something straight into the modem and see if it happens?
On any given day i lose my connection at least 20 times, if not 50 or more. It is not wireless interference as i have tried turning wireless off and plugging straight into the router via ethernet cable. My thoughts were to try plugging directly into the modem to see if the problem persists, and if it does, try a different modem, and if it still persists have charter test the lines in my house. Any feedback or anyone had similar problems?

Internet Connection Keeps Cutting Out
The other day my dad reset the router, and i couldn't connect to the internet. I found out it wasn't just my computer, it was all of them in my house! I have a wired connection, and all of my other computers have a wireless connection, so i know that the problem is nothing to do with the wireless connection. My dad thought it was the router that was the problem, and went out and bought a brand new wireless netgear router. He got it home and managed after a while to get it going. It turned out that we still had the same problem as before, we still didn't have any internet. My dad checked with our neighbors, and they didn't have a problem, so we knew that the line wasn't the problem. Yesterday my dad found a loose connection outside the house on the line connecting to the main line, and this helped alot when he tightened it up. Tonight, the internet crashed twice in a row, and i had to reset it both times in a row. We've been on the phone to bt (our service provider) for along time now, and we've had an expert it to look at everything and he couldn't find anything wrong. Our internet keeps crashing 4-5 times a day. I cannot deal with it doing this, and it will start to drive me mental if i dont sort this out soon! What could be the problem?

So, i right click on the connection and go to properties and enable isc, but i get an error that says "an error occurred while internet connection sharing was being enabled.
