Headphones $100
Replies: 19 | Post Date: 04-22-2009, 07:49 AM | User: Panta | Forums: hardforum.comI currently have a pair of sennheiser pc-151s (headset) but i never use the microphone and i find them to be quite uncomfortable. So i am going to sell them on ebay and get a pair of decent headphones instead. Main usage will be for playing pc games (fps mostly) and occasionally some music (no particular type of music). The budget is flexible, but in the region of £65 ($100). Though electronics tend to be more expensive here in the u. K so that kinda throws the currency conversion out the window. Currently using the asus p5q pro's integrated audio:
Audio chipset: realtek alc1200
Audio channels: 8 channels
Would it be a good idea to get a sound card for headphones in this price range?

Wireless Headphones Around $75 - $100
I need a nice pair of wireless headphones for home and possible work use. Mainly for listening to pandora.com and constantly running over the wire with my chair. I don't need a $1, 000 pair but want the best possible hardware for around $75-$100. Anyone have any input on some of the best bang for the buck wireless headphones?

$100 Vs $300 Headphones
Can someone who really knows the difference tell me what improvements you can expect from $300 cans, compared to, say, $60-100 ones? Is there actually a difference in sound quality (noticeable to the average person)? Is the comfort significantly better? (I assume yes on the latter, but i've never worn truly expensive headphones)
Since i use headphones so much nowadays, i'm thinking about getting a new pair (my 80-something-dollar sennheisers are on their last threads, and the comfort isn't very high) and i want to know what i can expect in more expensive ones. (Actually, what i really want to know is why $100 can't even get you something that doesn't grab your head like a nutcracker (my sennheisers) or not have enough bass (the siberia steel series i returned))

Headphones Under $100 Better Than The Ksc75
I have koss ksc75's and i think they are amazing. I bought the audio techinica ath-ad700's thinking i would get a great improvement and i am really disappointed to be honest. Bass is quite lacking and the high's are pretty intense. I mean i got the koss' for less then $10 and i honestly think they sound 98% as good as the $100 ad700's. I am going to return them tomorrow because they just didn't cut it for me. I have listened to them connected to a dedicated sound card (asus xonar and spdif out to a dac) and they still barely sound better then the koss'. Are there any headphones under $100 that are justifiably better then the ksc75's in terms of sound quality? These koss' are quite legendary for how good they sound and for much they cost. Should i just stick with them?
I want phones that have good bass response but that don't muddle the mid's and highs. I am looking at these sennheisers. The hd280's are also pretty nice looking but i read they have slightly weak bass and the highs can be to over powering. I think i might just been spoiled by the koss'.

$100 Headset
I've been using a creative fatal1ty headset for the past few months and while it's done its job, it's been pretty uncomfortable. I bought that back for 20 dollars and i think it's time to raise my budget for a good comfortable set. What's the best headset i can get for about a hundred bucks? I'd like it to be over the ear with leather padding with usb connectivity.

100% Random Hardlocks
I've had a problem that's been plaguing my computer for months the computer will randomly (no pattern or event will trigger this) hardlock and i will be forced to reboot. I've reformatted and reloaded windows several times. I've run memtest without errors, and prime will not error out (though the computer will occasionally lock if i run it long enough). I can be playing a game, watching a movie, browsing the web, listening to music, encoding video, or be away from my computer entirely. It has locked under all of these circumstances. Temperatures are normal (upper 30s to mid 40s) and my voltages are great. I have tried running with no pci cards in the system and it will still lock. The only constants that remain are my hard drives and my floppy drive. Everything else has been replaced or the computer has been run without before crashing.

Sata Drive Under $100
My current win7 system is running off of a 320gb ata100 drive because all my sata drives are in my whs system. I now want to move my os drive to a faster sata drive, but i don't know which would be best. Speed is my main concern then storage size. I would prefer at least another 320gb drive but i can go somewhat smaller if necessary. My budget is under $100 but the cheaper the better.

Headphone Around $100 Recommendations
So the wire on my old hd437s gave up on me, and i'm in the market for a new set of cans. Looking for a pair of open headphones, and my budget is around $100, although i'd be willing to spend a bit more if it's worth it. I'll be using these at home, so i don't need anything lightweight. Used is fine; i'd rather save a few more bucks if possible. Any recommendations would be much appreciated . Also, i'm in canada, so please don't post any links to us stores unless they ship to here for a reasonable price. And if you're selling something that might interest me, feel free to let me know.

Crashes @ 100% Cpu Load
Whenever im finished downloading something, or loading a game, or doing anything that takes a lot of cpu power for more than 4 or 5 seconds, my computer will completly freeze and. My keboard, and everything locks up. I end up pressing the reset button my computer so i can get back to whatever i was doing. I have found this happening whenever i try to load half-life 2. I never had a problem before so im not sure what could be causing this. My specs are in my signature. And nothing has been overclocked.

Fsb Was Running At 100 Instead Of 180
I felt that my system was damn slow since a while, didn't know why. Though it was time to reformat. Installed vista a couple of weeks ago, horribly slow. I was ***, so i downloaded sisoft sandra and tested my cpu. It was like 50% of what it should have been. Uh?
Opened cpu-z, and i found out that my system was running at fsb 100 instead if default 166 (and overclocked 180). Entered the bios, it was running at 100 but in the config, it was still 180. I reseted to default 166, rebooted, it set it at 166, then re-entered the bios, set it at 180, and now it runs at 180. Now it's all fine, but why did it suddently go from 180 to 100 for no reason?

Gaming Headset / Phones For Under $100
I was looking to get a new headset / headphone to use with my pc. I currently have a cheap plantronics headset, which after an hour of use starts to make my ears hurt and sweat. I was wondering if anyone had any recommendations as to a good solution. I have been researching the topic, and was wodering if games really took advantage of having a good set of headphones, or am i better off just getting a headset. My main use would be for gaming, and to a lesser extent music/movies. I was looking at the razer carcharias for a gaming headset; however, i was thinking maybe a headphone/mic combo would be better. My friend has the razer carcharias, and i find them very comfortable. I want an overear headset like the carcharias, i am open to either a headphone/mic combo or a headset, for under $100 perferably sub 80, with preferebly velour(sp?) Like earpads, as opposed to the plastic on my current plantronics that cause my ears to sweat. Also, if it matters i am using onboard audio.

Gateway T5212 100 Memory Problem
My computer has 2 memory slots both of which had a 512mb stick installed for a total of 1gb of memory. I removed one of the 512mb sticks and replaced it with a 1gb stick. But diagnostics and system tools tell me i now still have only 1gb memory installed. It seems the new stick works, but now it doesn't recognize the other slot. It doesn't matter which slot the 1gb or 512mb sticks are in, it only recognizes the 1gb stick. Diagnostics tools say max memory is 1gb but i have triple checked my motherboard specs online and it supports 2gb memory. I found this on another site, similar situation which is related. "Your computer will work absolutely fine with 1 x 512 and 1 x 1024 sticks installed together. You just won't have dual channel " . So i don't need to install 2 new sticks for it to work properly do i? Why do diagnostic specs say my motherboard only supports 1gb when i know for a fact it supports 2gb? Take a look at my specs from belarc (they match what other tools tell me also. ) Note, i already contacted emachines, they suggesting resetting bios, i did this, updated bios, same problem. Gateway t5212 100
Board: intel corporation d102ggc2 aad70214-201

Error 100: Partition Table Is Bad
My friend just gave me this 40gb hard drive; i think it used to be in his xbox or something. Anyways, because he used it in his xbox it is unpartitioned, therefore it doesn't show up in windows. Basically, i need to know how to format it so that i can put linux on it. I got partition magic 8. 0, but when i open it it said "error 100: partition table is bad" so i looked it up on the site and it says that i need to delete all data on the drive. I don't have a floppy drive.

Ata / 100 Harddrives Not Running At Full Speed
Two of my systems at home (one windows, on linux) each have two hard drives installed. The problem being that the secondary hard drive on each machine is only being used in udma mode 2. These drives shold be functioning in udma mode 5. I have been through the hardware device configuration on the windows xp machine. I can only toggle between pio and udma modes, i cannot increase the speed of udma modes. Thus, my second wd harddrive always reports udma mode 2. I am using an asus p4p800 mobo, and according to the specs, both channels will run at udma 5. I want it at 5, dag nabbit!?
Now for the linux machine. You'll notice i have both drives on the same channel for this one, but i still have the same issue. The primary drive is working at udma mode 5, while the secondary drive is only at udma mode 2. Shouldn't they both be in mode 5? I've been using hdparm to try and force the drive, but it will always fall back to udma mode 2. I can't figure it out. At first, i thought the hdd cables weren't capable of reaching ata/100, but they indeed are the right cables in both machines. I've even switched the drives around in each machine to see if anything would change. No matter what i do on either machine, the secondary drive is always defaulting to udma mode 2.

External Usb Sound Card Between $100 And $200
At the office i have a stereo system cobbled together from an old cambridge audio integrated amp, rega planet cd player and epos bookshelf speakers. It gets to be a drag bringing in - and taking home - a few cds every day. So, i've bought a wd terabyte hd and have copied most all of the flac-format music off my home htpc onto it. I want to use the laptop at work as a conduit (after installing foobar) between the wd hdd and the integrated amp which only has stereo analog inputs but not digital coax s/pdif, so i'm looking for an audiophile-grade external sound-card between $100 and $200 to fit the bill. I'm leaning towards an emu 0404 or something from m-audio but they both have a lot of pro-audio/musician type features that i have no need for. Are either these the best bets or is there anything else out there?

Windows Randomly Lock Up, Act As If Cpu Is Under 100% Load
I'll spare you the details, but my machine has become unstable recently. I was overclocking recently but one of these issues persisted before the oc. Since it's got weird my pc has gone back to stock settings which haven't fixed anything. Windows will randomly lock up, and act as if the cpu is under 100% load. It isn't. The pc will now poweroff after shutdown. The monitor switches off but the power/fan run to the cpu. When trying to image my c: drive to a backup it will always fail. I got a bsod last night trying this. I've ran chkdsk a few times and everytime it has found and "repaired" bad sectors. I booted into ms memory ram checker, no errors, the comp can still play games fine when i first boot up, it's afterwards thing get flaky, my os hard drive is pretty old, which is why i targeted that first. I've seen some abnormal temps coming from there in the past. How do i test psu to elimate that from the equation?

Hard Drive Runs At Constant 100, 110 Degrees And Make Noises
I've got a maxtor 80gigger, 7200 rpm ata133. A way long while back i had a dumb idea and kept my box in an enclosed space so no heat got out and no cold air got in. My hdd and video card took a blow. I had it there for 2 weeks before i noticed things were getting too hot. My hard drive started making clicking noises every once and a while, and was running real slow. I asked someone, they said it's a symptom of overheating and that i should keep my computer off for a bit and backup my files. I left it off for 2 days, and when i got back it took me over an hour to gather maybe 400 megs of stuff to save. It shouldn't take that long, 10 minutes at most (bathroom break included). It was running that slow. I run over to circuit city and buy a hdd cooler with a hs to cover the whole thing (except the bottom of it) for 20 bucks, i think it's served me well.zip forward a few months, to now, where my hard drive runs at a constant 100-110 degrees farenheit, and still makes the clicky noise. Performance is ok until it clicks, so it locks windows for a brief second and goes back. I'm wondering the temp is ok and if there's anything i can do about it (front mount intercooler, anyone? ) Any advice is highly appreciated.

Ultra Ata 100 Harddrive, Ultra Dma 33 Mobo
I read in another thread that ultra ata and ultra dma are the same thing. So i know that part. My question is this. Will an ultra ata 100 harddrive work on a motherboard that only supports ultra dma 33?

Headphones Under 50$
Raid card causing reboots. They will mostly just be used for music while i'm out with my laptop. They don't need to be loud and they don't need have any special noise canceling.

Headphones For Pc Use
Well, my pc is the most used thing. And i use headphones a lot with it. I have been gaming a lot more on pc recently as well as editing video and such. Really love the sennheisers i have, but i think i need something a bit better, and with a mic (not required). So, i've been looking (don't have a huge budget), and found these. http://www.Newegg.com/product/product.aspx?Item=n82e16826289001&tpk=pulsar%20sx
Are they nice quality? They are "virtual 7. 1 surround sound" which would be nice. They also have a microphone (do wish it was detachable), and look good. Is the microphone very clear as well?
Any other recommendations?

Looking For Some New Headphones
I've been using the, sony - studio monitor series headphones. They were cheap for $19. 99 back in the day. Well they have been broken once before, nothing bad, i gained the ability to take the ear pad side off. Anyways, my friend sat on them and broke the holder for the ear pad. So, i super glued it back on, however i don't know how long that will last. About time for a new pair i think, after 3 years. http://www.Bestbuy.com/site/sony+-+studio+monitor+series+headphones/4503923. P?Id=1051806135345&skuid=4503923&st=sony&cp=2&lp=1
I've always liked skullcandy's skullcrusher headphones. Looking at these, http://www.Skullcandy.com/shop/skullcrushers-black-pinstripe.html
However, i'm open to other ideas and suggestions. They have to be full headphones though, i hate those ear buds. Preferably around the same price range ($70).

Which Headphones ?
For xp the best deal overall for xp atm is the prelude + the jvc har-x700 or 900 headphones for about $200. Crazy good gaming audio and very nice for music too. Both need a zalman clip on mic though. The x-fi titanium, the $100, newegg only? Version, is the bang for the buck card now though. The prelude still is better but if you want to save some $$ and still get fine sound. The koss sb-40 headset is the best cheap gaming headset too. The mic sometimes plain sucks though so be aware of that. For vista there is less need for a gaming soundcard. I would go with the zero usb dac/amp or the upcoming av123 x-head instead. If you want just music, well that is different. Pm me about that b/c it really depends on $$, music genres, special equipment etc. This thread is intended to answer the most often asked questions posted here. The listing is of the most commonly recommended headphones and headsets for gaming. If there are specific questions pertaining to other aspects of headphone audio, please do ask them here and we will do our best to answer. This link leads to the place with the most overall headphone knowledge. It is easy to get completely confused so don't think you are stupid. It is also, the best place to get used headphones for cheap b/c ppl tend to keep buying headphones until they find one they like. That being so, there are lots of great deals there lol. http://www.Head-fi.org/forums/index.php
Faq and general knowledge
Me? I have speaker headphones and a 12" sub lol. More on that later. Trust me this can get expensive quickly. I have tried every headphone under $1500 with very few exceptions. Truthfully, like 50 headphones or more. I have lost count. My system currently is a hodgepodge of many different brands which i am constantly changing. How crazy is it? Well, these are my "headphones" now lol. Not everyone agrees with me that is fine. I just know what most people think by this time lol. That, and i have heard every mainstream headphone with an x-fi so yeah. Ok. This is just the start really but here is the quick and dirty on gaming headphones and headsets. 5. 1 gaming headsets pretty much are good for gaming/movies only. They all stink for music. All of them. They do good for positional audio but lack decent sound quality b/c they cram a bunch of tiny speakers into a small space as opposed to two large, decent drivers. Also, as mrguvernment mentioned, music is rarely recorded in 5. 1. Most "gaming headsets" are poorly made, overpriced, buggy pos so my advice is to avoid them until someone comes out with a good one. Yes some of them don't completely suck but still are not as good as the ones listed below so trust me or them your choice. Usb headsets have issues and have generally crappy build quality and sound. However, usb dac/amps like the zero are very good as sources now and should be strongly considered when using vista especially. It is best to use an x-fi with xp even though we all hate creative. There is only one other gaming soundcard not made entirely by creative that provides eax 5 and that is the prelude. The prelude is the best gaming card imo. Swappable op-amps, separate digital out and mic in, plain and simple sounds right to me. For vista, well, you don't really benefit that much due to a lack of hardware acceleration support. The front panel of the x-fi is a joke for a headphone out. Do not use it as such unless desperate beyond measure. Laptops? Boy that is a tough issue too. The creative audigy 2zs and x-fi notebook are the only two laptop cards that give eax 4. (Thanks trombe) no laptop soundcards are better than a standard x-fi for desktop currently. The new vista laptops have pretty decent sound for music at least if you can one with a decent headphone jack. Gaming i can't really say b/c mine is not a gaming laptop. Realtek audio gives eax 2 software. If you want better sound for a laptop you need to specify if you have optical out or usb. Iem or in ear monitor are headphones that you stick into your ears like earplugs. They are great if you don't want to hear anything else. They do lack sound stage b/c they are in your ear but still are pretty cool if you can put up with the hassle and sometimes discomfort of having them in your ear. The shure e2g is a gaming oriented iem made for portable game consoles like the psp etc. It is about $100. There are many other iems just ask. Read more at the forums.

Psyko 5.1 Headphones
Has anyone tried these?
I've been using a set of medusa nx headphones for a while now but would like to see if there is anything better out there. I really don't care about the price. My wife won't let me do a 5. 1 in our office because playing cs:s would really annoy her so i'm limited to finding a good set of 5. 1 headphones. These have had decent reviews.
