Floppy Drive Disk Boot Failure

Just built my own computer, and i cant install an os because the computer doesnt seem to find the floppy drive. I have connected the floppy drive to the motherboard with a 34-pin connecter, and i have the twisted end plugged to the floppy drive, and the long end to the mb. I noticed that one pin on the floppy drive (the second from the side) is missing.could that be the problem or should it be like that?

When i start the computer it says after counting the memory and all that, "verifying dmi pool data. Disk boot failure, insert system disk and press enter".

Boot Up From Usb Floppy Disk Drive

So i need a floppy drive. I do not have a power dongle, the small one on my antec neopower 480 for a floppy drive. Someone at microcenter told me that there are power dongle converters for floppys. But i was wondering, since i need to install my sata drivers off an a: drive when i boot from my xp c. D. Will a usb floppy drive could act exactly the same as an internal one? Can i boot up from a usb floppy disk drive?

Disk Boot Failure. Insert System Disk And Press Enter

Just built my first pc and configured the bios etc and get the following message:

Boot from atapi cd-rom
Disk boot failure. Insert system disk and press enter. I think this means that i have to insert a boot disk for the cd-rom drive into the floppy disk drive, to install the drivers for it. Can someone confirm this? Also my cd drive is a philips 52x32x52 cd-rw which came with no floppy disks for installation at all, so i am not sure how i can setup the cd drive without an operating system etc.

Disk Boot Failure, Insert System Disk And Press Enter

I'm just usng my computer as a normal computer user would use one's computer. Surfing the web, instant messaging programs and the like, then my main harddrive makes a low click sound, then a slightly higher click sound after about half a second, then windows stops responding, then less than a second after my system achieves full lockup. So i'm like, ok, that's weird, and i reboot. I boot into bios and make sure it's not set to turn off the harddrives for any reason, and when i see that it isn't and there are no other wonky settings, i boot windows (xp pro sp2 .net) into safemode and just to make sure, start a virus scan, while that's working i look and make sure drive indexing is turned off (it isnf't on the main drive, so i turn it off) and that power save things are set to always on, and that's all ok, so while i'm waiting for the virus scan to finish, it does the click thing again, locks up, so i'm like *** and i reboot again, this time it gets to the ascii loading bar before the animated startup screen before the login prompt, and it does the click thing and stops, so i reboot again, and this time it gets to "verifying dmi pool data. " After detecting the drives and whatnot, does the click thing and stops right there, then after a minute or so i see "disk boot failure, insert system disk and press enter". So i sit there getting madder by the second and press enter, then it gives me a blank screen and that message again, and that's where it sits right now as i type this (but once i post i'll turn it off)

So i was running a virus scan, avg free edition, and it scanned the registry and the mbr for viruses and didn't find any, so i dunno, this either is a virus that i don't have a definition for, or some random progressive hardware failure, or my computer decided to crap out on me randomly.

Insert System Disk And Press Enter, Disk Boot Failure

Looking for suggestions for what to do next. I've built my first from scratch computer using:

New
Gigabyte ga-8i915p duo-a motherboard
P4 630 3ghz 800mhz fsb 2mb l2 cache processor
Maxtor 200gb eide ultra ata/133 hard drive
2x crucial 1gb ddrii 533 memory sticks

From my old system
Cd/rw
Dvd rom

It seems to post ok, but i then get the message

"Disk boot failure, insert system disk and press enter"

I've tried the new copy of windows xp bought for this build, and also the disks that came with the board and the hard drive. Each time the same message comes up. I've searched through all the documentation that came with everything, the net, and some books, nothing i try works. Can anybody help please?

Change Boot Drive With Floppy

How to change boot drive with floppy ? I would like to be able to swap between 2 different boot drives by using a floppy. I think that it is possible to do this, but i do not know how. Both operating systems will be using windows xp pro. If there is a hardware solution out there, i would prefer to use this method. I do not want to use a boot loader because i do not want the original operating system or its users to know of the other drive. A sort of stealth operating sytem if you will.

Failure To Boot From Hard Drive

I have two hard drives. I tried installing windows vista business on the first one to use in a dual-boot configuration with windows xp which was on the second hard drive. Well, the vista installation worked fine, but when i went to boot into xp, i found vista's boot loader hadn't recognized windows xp. Clearly frustrated, i tried several different things until i finally decided to format the first hard drive. It was horrible i lost my entire data from the hard drive. Vista made my data vanish. I hate it. I tried using repair tool and many recovery software, but it did not work.

Floppy Drive "disk I/o Error"

Can anyone help with a little problem i'm having with installing xp pro. Everytime i try to install from the floppies (can't boot from cdrom) i get this "disk i/o error". I have never came across this before. It isn't the floppy drive, because all other disks work. I tried formatting the floppy before using it.could there be something wrong with my boot sector?

Btw. I use powerquest's partition magic 8, and i'm getting this "bad boot signature byte" message when scanning the drive for errors!*

Pc Wont Boot With Disk Drive Plugged In

Ok so recently ive been having issues with my optical (cd/dvd) drive. First it wouldn't boot with any disk in it, even if it wasn't a boot-able disk. I figured that out just by taking the disc out. Simple right?

Now my pc will boot past bios and display the post message but will not go into the operating system. I changed my boot order to do hard drive first and it still did the same thing. So i had a hunch and unplugged the power cable to my disk drive (ribbon cable is still attached) and it booted fine. Does this mean my disk drive is going out? Or is it maybe just that plug on my power supply?

Error 0200: Failure Fixed Disk 0

It is hard for me to throw away things that have been working. I am the owner of two dell inspiron notebooks. One is an 1100 (2003) and the one that is currently giving me the problem is a 2500 (2002). So you can see who you are dealing with. I upgraded the memory on both machines to 1g and 512mb respectively, not that long ago and they were working fine. Then i got this brainstorm to try to teach myself ubuntu and wiped out xp on the 2500 and burned an iso image of a ubuntu version and it was working ok except i couldn't connect to the internet even via ethernet cable. Time passed and then by the time i came back to it - there was a problem that i really can't recall - i posted on some other sites and the bottom line was, i thought i needed a new hard drive. So i purchased a compatible drive (i did a fair amount of research) and got the drive about 2 months ago and just tried to get it going this morning. I replaced my hitachi 20 gb drive with a seagate momemtus 5400. 3 40gb drive. When i boot up, the initial screen does show that it recognizes my new drive (model st940815a).

Hard Disk Failure - Device Scsi Ultra1

I've inherited an older windows 2000 server. It acts as a co-location box. Recently, i've been unable to access it until it is rebooted. Today, i checked out the event logs and saw it filled with error messages. Some of them said: "the device, devicescsiultra1, did not respond within the timeout period. " And others said: "dmio: disk harddisk5 block 562598323 (mountpoint m: uncorrectable write error" many of these two occured in the last two days. Another message i received a little while ago said:
"The device, devicescsipnp6801, did not respond within the timeout period. "

Can anyone tell me what it looks like the problem is, or could be? I'm thinking that a hard drive has gone bad (or is going bad).

Intermittent Boot Failure

The problem is intermittently the system powers up but fails to even attempt to boot - no bios beeps, and bios and vid. Bios screens not displayed. Drives spin up ok. Have tried different case and psu (in fact system is currently in borrowed case). The system only ever fails to boot if the system is cold-started - the system warm-reboots ok. Tried different ram, had m/b replaced once, new m/b been returned to dealer where they (supposedly) found no problems when tested with other kit and with my psu, but system not been professionaly tested as a whole. Have also tried different graphics card, removing modem and sound card, running system from hdd only, but still having problems. All connectors are firmly seated. There are no config options in bios or jumpers for ram and the cpu is set up correctly and automatically. Have used 375 and 300w psus with system (300w seemed better then system started playing up again)
Nvidia geforce4 mx440 agp8x graphics card (8x is supported by m/b), and have also tried geforce2 4x. The os may be irrelevant, but i've tried winxppro, win2000, winnt4, mandrake linux 9 and a linux distro that boots from cd (knoppix). All drivers installed ok. Won't even bother with win9x/me because i hate it.

Xp Does Not Boot From Hard Disk

I have bought a new hdd (ata), with jumper on master. I did installed xp professional sp2 (genuine licensed) once, this morning, everything was ok. After installing xp, i have booted from hdd without problems and even i did some small disaplay changes (resolution, colors, things like that), but i have installed nothing else). I've closed the os, closed the pc and went out for about 1 hour. When coming back the system refused to boot again from hdd. As i had nothing else installed on hdd except the xp, i decided to boot from cd, format again the partition and reinstall the xp. Surprise: the hdd is visible (bios sees it), is to be formated, xp files are copied on the c: partition as normal, no errors, but when first time the installing program needs to re-boot, it can not re-boot from hdd, and keeps booting from cd again and again. Any ideas?

Emachine - No Boot Disk

I've been working on this old emachine for a woman down the street and i finally got it running but it's acting a bit strange. She called me up today and said it tells her she has "no boot disk". Now, i know i was just there and had windows xp boot up. So i go there, turn it on. And boot up normally. So i make sure everything else is working. I turned it off and on a few times, everything was normal. I left and an hour later she calls me back. "It's a black screen that says "no boot disk" on it". She says she didn't turn it of/restart or anything. I'm trying to get a handle on what's wrong here. I can't get a handle on it because i'm never there when something goes wrong. It's a 3100+ sempron with 256 mb ram and a 100gb ide hdd. Integrated sound, network, and graphics (chrome s3 i think). Any ideas? Is it possible that her psu is shutting down and resetting her boot settings? I'm sure the hard drive has a recovery partition (but that should also be bootable). Maybe her psu and the motherboard batter are both hosed. I don't know anymore lol. Any ideas are appreciated.

Use Usb As A Dos Boot Disk

Is there any way to make this work? I can get it to boot from it, but the only commands i can get to work are fdisk and format. It keeps searching for files on my a: drive. Is there a way to modify the .ini files so i can create a fully functional boot disk? I'm trying to completely eliminate the need for a floppy drive. Also, is there a way to make a bootdisk that can format with all the popular file systems such as ntfs or linux file system?

Hdd Not Found On Boot = Disk Error

I recently received a western digital 160gb, as a replacement for a broken western digital 120gb, from western digital. However on boot the hdd is sometimes not found and instead a little clicking noise can be heard, which in turn leads to the primary slave not being found and then a disk error. Usually if i simply turn it off then back on again, then it works fine however sometimes i have to do this multiple times, sometimes i have to turn it off and leave it for a few minutes and sometimes i have to open the case and push all the cables into the back of the hdd and dvdrw a bit more. To me the cables don't feel as though they've come loose and so really this is an exercise of ritual rather than anything constructive, yet it seems to do the job. Once the hdd is recognised the pc works fine and dandy but i'd like to avoid this failure as it is happening more and more. Is this an issue with the cpu, data cables, power cables, hdd, dvdrw, ram?
My system is an asus pundit w/ intel 2. 8ghz, dual 512mb ram, western digital 160gb, sony 8x dvdrw.

Floppy Drive Not Working

Recently i added a second hard drive and at that time i had to remove the connections to the floppy drive. When i put everything back, the floppy drive is not working and it is giving a message "a: is not accessable. Device not ready" whenever i click on a: in the windows explorer. After few attempts i came to the conclusion that the floppy drive was bad and i bought new one. Again the same problem. Somebody suggested that the cable is not good and asked me to get a new one. I am going to try that as a last resort. I need this floppy drive working to install the hard drive configuration software which was stored in the floppy drive.

No Bootable Device Insert Boot Disk Press Any Key Hp

The day before yesterday, i turned off the pc using windows vista menu > shut down. When i turned it on, after the hp logo, it shows a black screen with the following error: no bootable device - insert a boot disk and press any key. I already tried to load bios setup defauts, did memory and primary hard disk self tests (they were ok), changed the boot order (f10), but the error message persists. I did the reset procedure, which i unplugged the battery and the ac charger and keep the power button pressed for 6 seconds, but it didn't worked either. I tried the (f11) recovery mode, but the error message persists (i do not have the recovery discs to boot from the disc). I tried to boot from windows xp disc but it stays forever on the press any key to start from the cd message. I tried to boot it using another os cd (ubuntu) but it asks to update the bios. I do not have vista dvd (it did not come with the pc). What else can be done? How can i solve this problem?

Drive Failure In Raid 5, Now Corrupt C: Drive

I had a hard drive die in my raid 5 configuration. I replaced the drive and rebuilt it. Now when i click on the c: drive it says: "the file or directory c: is corrupt and unreadable, please run chkdsk"

From what i am reading, chkdsk is not raid aware which probably won't help with my situation. Can anyone recommend any tools available (paid or otherwise) to try and fix this error?
