Hardware Conflict, Computer Load Up Time Seems Longer Than It Should Be
Replies: 14 | Post Date: 26-10-2005, 11:53 AM | User: Theremin | Forums: hardwareforums.comI have the latest bios, drivers for everything (nvidia drivers for mobo, graphics card, monitor, sound blaster, etc) and updates for windows. I'm not trying to toot my horn here (well, maybe just a little hehe) but as far as i can tell, with these specs the system should be giving a fairly good performance. However, i have found that for one, the load up time seems a little longer than it should be. Secondly, game graphics have gotten choppy in some sections of far cry, and the fps in cs:source drops from around 90 to 10 when blinded by a flashbang. Up until a month ago i was using a xfx 6600gt and i wasn't getting this fps drop at all when flashed. I tried a test using 3dmark05 and ended up with a score of around 7, 500, which i gather is the average for a 7800gt?
Basically, as this is my first build, i am asking for any advice anyone might have as i feel i have missed something. Perhaps a hardware conflict or even just how the drivers have been installed?

Computer Freezes On Boot - Long Time To Load Windows
I was having issues with a game of mine hard locking my pc. The only way to get out of it was to hold down the power button and force the pc to power down, then boot back up. Trying to trouble shoot the game, this happened several times. Then, it started freezing on the memory test. It's not really freezing, though - if i leave it sit for a very long time ( 5 to ten minutes ), it will eventually boot into windows. Any ideas?

From Time To Time Computer Freezes
I need help diagnosing what i believe is a hardware problem, since it happens with windows and linux. From time to time my computer freezes. I cannot move the mouse pointer and there is no reaction when i press a key on the keyboard. There is no bluescreen or any other error message. Also, it is not predicatble when the computer freezes. Sometimes i can work for hours without any problems and sometimes it freezes after 5 minutes. Generally, i noticed that it freezes earlier when i use windows instead of linux. Any idea what could be the problem or what i could do to diagnose it?

So i ended up upgrading to an amd x2 6000 and getting an hd4850 as well. Windows 7 was also installed by a friend on my computer. However, my computer is shutting off during the windows load screen at the same time, like right after the windows colors icon forms together and glows or whatever. I have an antec 650w truepower power supply that is maybe 3 years old at the most. Why Wont Computer Load Wireless Networks?
Okay, i have a dell inspiron 910 mini. My computer was working just great when i had internet in the beginning of 2010. I had comcast for awhile, then i didnt have any internet because i stopped using their services. So no internet for months. Now i just got fios and ever since i was done with comcast none of my wireless networks loaded. Everytime i clicked on 'view available wireless networks' a message comes up that says, "windows cannot configure the wireless connection. If you have enabled another program to manage this wireless connection use that software. " And then it goes on about wireless zero configuration. I tryed turning on the wireless zero configuration, it didnt work. I then added my ssid and password. Then i finally had internet. Until i shut the computer down. Now when i load it up and try to enter my ssid it wont load the page that allows me to do so. I just dont know what to do now.

Computer Dies When I Switch It On First Time
Every time i switch my computer on with the big button on the front of the tower, you hear the discs start up for a second or so, but then it dies. The little green light on the front stays on. If i press the big button to try to start her up again, nothing happens. I also get nothing if i press the little button that can usually be used to reboot the thing. If i switch it off and on at the back and then press the big button again, everything starts ok. It's been like this for about a week. What exactly is the problem and how do i fix it?

Hub Connect One Computer At A Time ?
Hub only lets one computer connect at a time. ? Its a linksys nh1005, not sure how to get into it to configure it, but it will allow either computer to access internet, but not at the same time. The one that isn't connected is still on the local connection. Is this just how hubs work and i need a router too or?

Excessive Computer Boot Time
I'm a certified computer technician. I'm working on my pals computer, and for the life of me i have never had such an slow boot. I did disk cleanup, followed by a defrag (which took almost a full day). In the four or so years this computer has existed i don't think it has once been defraged or cleaned up but anyways i also went into msconfig and got rid of all startup processed except the ones necessary for startup (obviously). This is a duo core (1. 66 per core) computer with 1gb ram. I figure it may be the ram however, i just checking here to see if anyone else has any ideas how i could speed up the boot, the bios is default, everything checks out okay. So disk cleanup followed by defrag and then msconfig. What did i miss? It's windows xp, so it's odd that it takes like 4 minutes to boot (even with 1gb ram).

My isp told me i will have a download speed of 3. 0 mbs. I am geting speed of 400kbs. They did all the testing, they are saying everything is fine nothing wrong with their service/modem. They told me i am geting this low speed because something is wring with my computer. I have a brand new computer, p4, 512m memory, 80gb hard. Of all your history of building and dealing with computers, what component has failed the most for you? For me hands down its motherboards. Most computers i've owned i've gone through at least 2 sets of motherboards before upgrading the entire machine. Most of them just seem so cheaply made. Are there any rugged motherboards out there?
I've had a few disk failures now and then. I once had a video card that was so messed up if you plugged it into any computer and powered it on it would fry the motherboard permanently. While it was a pretty interesting item to have i decided to throw it away. That kind of power is too much for mortals to handle. Regardless, its been motherboards more often than anything else that have failed.

Resource Conflict
I have a piece of audio recording equipment hooked up to the firewire card in my pc. The equipment suddenly doesn't work, and my "mcp audio processing unit" has this warning message in the device manager (i'm using xp):
This device cannot find enough free resources that it can use. (Code 12) if you want to use this device, you will need to disable one of the other devices on this system. Its location is: pci bus 0, device 5, function 0
Does anyone know how to determine which "other device" should be disabled? I don't know how to interpret the meaning of the location values. I tried disabling a few unneeded devices, but no luck. Also tried uninstalling/reinstalling drivers.

Faulty Hardware ? Just Built Computer Keeps Rebooting
Ok, so my fiance and i are attempting to build me a new computer to replace my older laptop (we have both built computers before, and he used to work for a computer repair shop, so we thought we knew what we were doing). Anyway, now it keeps rebooting within <1 sec to about 60ish seconds from boot- usually it's less than 5 seconds. We started out with just the mobo, ram, video card, and processor plugged in and attempted to boot - worked beautifully (seemingly). Tried same with floppy drive w/ win98 boot disk, again, seemingly beautiful, and booted right up to the disk. Then attempted to add hdd and dvd drive, and it started doing this rebooting thing. We've since tried taking everything off the mobo but the ram and processor, and it still does the same thing. We've reseated the ram, tried it in the other slot, checked the conections, checked the jumper settings. Still no help. It does seem to stay up longer on the first boot if we have left it alone for several hours, but it will still eventually reboot. Also, the first time we plugged in the usb drive it booted directly from that with no prompting, now it hardly even recognizes the disk as valid, if it does get that far in the boot process (but it does sometimes, so i don't think the disk is bad). We've considered updating the bios (there was something on intel's website about it being 'essential' that you update the bios if you have a p4 800fsb, but it didn't say why) but we fear that even if it did eventually boot to the disk, it would crash in the middle of flashing, thus making the mobo trash. Please, somebody - if you have any idea what we can do from here, let me know! I ordered these parts from a company across the country (newegg.com) and only have about 3 weeks in which i can exchange them, if i figure out which one really has the problem. I don't have any spare parts to work with, so i can't really swap out things to test that way, and i don't have the money to just buy new parts for testing purposes (except for possibly the power supply - i'm already buying this on a loan from my mom). Ok, so my fiance and i are attempting to build me a new computer to replace my older laptop (we have both built computers before, and he used to work for a computer repair shop, so we thought we knew what we were doing). Anyway, now it keeps rebooting within <1 sec to about 60ish seconds from boot- usually it's less than 5 seconds. We started out with just the mobo, ram, video card, and processor plugged in and attempted to boot - worked beautifully (seemingly). Tried same with floppy drive w/ win98 boot disk, again, seemingly beautiful, and booted right up to the disk. Then attempted to add hdd and dvd drive, and it started doing this rebooting thing. We've since tried taking everything off the mobo but the ram and processor, and it still does the same thing. We've reseated the ram, tried it in the other slot, checked the conections, checked the jumper settings. Still no help. It does seem to stay up longer on the first boot if we have left it alone for several hours, but it will still eventually reboot. Also, the first time we plugged in the usb drive it booted directly from that with no prompting, now it hardly even recognizes the disk as valid, if it does get that far in the boot process (but it does sometimes, so i don't think the disk is bad). We've considered updating the bios (there was something on intel's website about it being 'essential' that you update the bios if you have a p4 800fsb, but it didn't say why) but we fear that even if it did eventually boot to the disk, it would crash in the middle of flashing, thus making the mobo trash. Please, somebody - if you have any idea what we can do from here, let me know! I ordered these parts from a company across the country (newegg.com) and only have about 3 weeks in which i can exchange them, if i figure out which one really has the problem. I don't have any spare parts to work with, so i can't really swap out things to test that way, and i don't have the money to just buy new parts for testing purposes (except for possibly the power supply - i'm already buying this on a loan from my mom). My Computer Stopped Recognizing Internal Hardware
I have a dell inspiron 1501 running windows vista, and one day when i tried to turn it on the sound icon showed a little red image circle with a white "x" in it. When i mute it, it just shows a red circle with a slash. My computer then told me my sound device wasn't installed. Then i go to get online to try to figure this out, and a caption came up saying the my wireless card wasn't installed. Then, i go to plug in my itouch and none of my usb ports will work because it won't even charge my ipod. This has never happened before and i'm really frustrated. So i have come to you on my mother's desktop.

Computer Hardware And Airport Xray Machines
Could it cause any damage to my components? Pardon my ignorance but it's just that i'm not really sure about it. Would it be ok if i allow my pc components (like processor, ram, vid card, etc. ) To pass along airport terminal xray machines and also metal detectors?

After Changing / Adding Hardware, Computer Fails To Boot
I changed the cpu fan as it was making some buzzing noises so decided it was getting old and replaced it. Also i added in a dvd player as the other drive could not play dvds. While doing this i also unscrewed the hdd from its location to remove it while changing the cpu fan and also to make sure it was secure as i had a feeling it was loose. Put everything back together, hit power. Psu fan spun, cpu fan spun, gfx card fan spun, cd drives can open/close, hdd spins up, but no beeps at all and the monitor does not activate, the light by its power button just flashes.

Usb And Cable Modem Conflict
I'm having a few problems with my modem connection. Each and everytime i plug the cable into the usb port it cause my keyboard and mouse to stop responding. I have plugged in my printer (epson c64) and that works fine. I have updated the usb drivers to 2. 0 and in device manager it tells me i have the enhanced usb controller. I am using bt voyager 100 modem

I have asus p5kpl-am/ps brand new motherboard with which i attached a dvd ram driver lg gsa h 55n - which does not play some dvdmovies but can play few data dvds, datacds , videocds and mp3 cds. It could not read/ play the dvd supplied by asus even. Neither it can recognise blank dvd r s or blank dvd rw s . 1)region settings is ok
2)dvds are clean and not damaged. 3)lens cleaned with cleaning cd. I have only one hard disc and only one dvd, searching device manager i found the following thing. 1)my hard drive is acting as a slave with udma setting 5 and
2)my dvd is acting as a master with udma setting 4
3)both working under primary ide channel
4)nothing is set under secondary ide channel
Is this a correct settings?

Usb Conflict - Message: Game Controller Not Responding
I got a usb joystick for my birthday (see "my gaming controller don't work" under gaming equipment subforum) and it doesn't work. I don't think my usb ports are screwed up because all my other usb devices work fine. In fact, windows detects the stick but then says: game controller not responding why? How does it see it in the first place if it doesn't work? And why is it doing this?

Physx V9 Driver Conflict With Sandra 2010 Gpgpu Benchmark
I installed physx (software emulation on ati) drivers before stream2. 01:
On sandra2010 engineer, when you create a report so it runs all gpgpu benchmarks it continues for 18hrs (and counting. )
For some reason gpu-z does not detect that i have an opencl gpu. Reports intermittent 2% load on the gpu and 100%(with 50% kernel) on one cpu thread, the 4 hyperthreads are parked. It seems one of the benchmarks is running something meant for 1600 gpu-threads on a single cpu-thread due to the physx driver interfering?

Ive had the wireless card working great for the past month in the pci slot. I was sick of onboard graphics. So yesterday i put in my recently bought graphics card (agp). I started up the computer and was amazed with what the graphics card had done with my screen. So the first thing i did was try going on the internet, but soon realized that my wireless card wasn't picking up my modem. I tried installing the drivers again but that didn't help. Sound Blaster Audigy Conflict With Geforce4 Ti4200 Graphics Card
I recently bought a new computer. The board is a gigabyte that runs the new kt400 chipset. It has an athlon xp 2200 thouroughbred processor. At first, i was running this board with my old pc 2100 samsung ram (512mb), with a sound blaster audigy and a gf4 ti4200 graphics card. Everything was running perfectly. (By the way, the motherboard has three ram slots, i was only using two with the pc2100). So, i recently upgraded to three pc3200 (256 mb) samsung modules. I thought it would just be a matter of taking out the old, and putting in the new. However, after installing the new ram, my display was messed up bad. It went down to 16 colors, with limited resolution, etc. (Also, a message would appear saying i didn't have enough memory to perform any operations)
So, i restarted the computer, went to the bios and made sure it was set to recognize the correct ram, i tried reinstalling the display driver, etc. So, i went for the big haul and decided to just reformat and reinstall windows. Now the computer recognizes the ram and the display is fine. However, when installing the driver for my audigy soundblaster card, the same thing as before happend, and my resolution went down (though this time at least i still had access to my memory). Also, a message would appear saying i should go to microsoft website to update display driver? What?

I am on xp professional. If i change my mouse or my keyboard for usb one, windows won't automatically install driver for these simple devices. It will ask my help to make the installation (i just need to click on "next"). I would like windows to instal alone this kind of stuff without prompting with "found new hardware wizard". All right guys, i know it's a old motherboard, but i still hope somebody can help me with it. I recently received an extra celeron 466 mhz and now i have two of them on my board. But winxp+sp2 seems to be very unstable, when i try to run a movie( dvd, divx or something else). Whenever i run mediaplayer, vlc or an other video application the system hangs. When looking at my system info, i see a shared/conflict port "processor to vga controller". I'm at my work, but i'll put the exact error message over 6 hours.
