Truecrypt Drive Recovery With Password

I've recently been experimenting with duel boot (xppro, ubuntu) and i foolishly failed to removed my truecrypt fully encrypted drive and it's mirror. When the dust settled i discovered that truecrypt would no longer mount either drive. Windows xp service pack two sees one drive as unformatted, and another as a 128 gb volume, which it is not, they are both 300gb drives. In case all my efforts to recover either volume fail my question becomes this. Is there a service or technique that would allow me to recover the data if i could provide the encryption scheme and passphrase?

As an american i am told to be paranoid that anything can be cracked. The truecrypt forums are a draconian joke and frankly even if it weren't under populated i have high hopes that a greater level of skill can be found here anyway as this place is the top computer specific response from google when given "cryptography forum".

Hard Drive Duplication And Truecrypt

I have a 500gb samsung sata drive that i want to "dupe" to my new seagate 1. 5 tb drive. It's currently set up with two truecrypt'ed "hidden" partitions, each is 100gb each. I'd like to keep both intact and have them carry over to the seagate. Is there anything special i need to do before copying the data from the samsung to the seagate? Will the hidden partitions stay intact after duplication?

Also, i'm planning on using acronis true image home.

Ssd Compatible With Drive Imaging Software, Truecrypt

My understanding is that because of wear-leveling and other ssd voodoo that there is another logical layer interspersed between the os and the hardware. Does this have an effect on tools that access the hard-drive at a low-level?

For example, if i image a 80gig mechanical hard-drive and attempt to put that image/partition on an ssd, is it a straightforward process?

What about truecrypt in container mode? Truecrypt allocated a big-ass file, and then does a lot of operations on the internals of that file. What about truecrypt in whole-disk mode?

What about in other applications that i might not have thought of? (It is my understanding that defragging is largely redundant because of the way that the ssd natively spreads files across the whole of the disk. )

Hard Drive Recovery Possible ?

My seagate 1. 5tb 7200. 11 seems to have died quickly, and before i realized what was going on the drive is only detected in the bios, and trying to access anything just gives me io errors. Is there anything else i could try? I have it backed up with the exception of 10gb or so of new data that wasn't caught by the nightly backup. I suppose the only other method would be to replace the controller. I did try the freezer trick for about 8 hours but it didn't seem to help.

Corrupt Data From Drive Recovery

I have a big problem. I accidentally formatted and reinstalled windows vista on my wife's laptop and lost all of her data. I was able to get the most important data back (55gb), using getdataback, however, when i go to open any of the files, they are all corrupt. Is there any program i can use to fix these files?

Recovery - Usb Flash Drive

Have a usb thumb drive. Was using a mac yesterday, saving, copying, and using multiple files from my flash drive. At the end of the day, i went to open a file and realized that two entire (and fairly important) folders were missing, as were several more recent files-some from the same day. Now my drive reads as though it has more space available than it should. I keep seeing all these scams and $50 services to recover lost files from flash memory. Anyone know of any reliable free-ware or techniques i could use to get my files back?

Its only a 512mb memorex memory stick.

Recovery Of Hard Drive Data

I need help to retrieve the data from my western digital hard drive (40g). Last week my power supply burnt and damaged my mother board. So i tested with another existing system unit with my wd hard drive, it hang in the bios stage after the memory test finish. Cannot do anything. Is it the hard drive problem? May i know anyone can tell me how can i recover my data inside this bad hard drive? I need to recover my data since wd technical support only can give me a replacement of hard drive. Data Recovery Of A Hard Drive Partition In Two

My drive is partition into 2. A drive c for my xp systems and a d for files. Windows xp doesnt work anymore on the c drive partition and all it does is just keep on going to the windows screen and then restart and will not get pass it. I have installed a second sata drive in my pc and installed xp on it. Now when i connect both drives in my pc including the faulty one, it just does the same thing again with the restarts looping and will not load the working xp thats loaded onto my other sata drive. Is that because they both have the c drive letter on both of them and the xp operating systems?

Is there any way of telling the pc to load the second sata drive with the working xp and disregard the faulty one with a c drive letter partition. All i want is for the pc to see the faulty drive as just another drive with files in there and an xp operating system in there. I am thinking of just getting a usb sata external case tomorrow and put the faulty sata drive in there and connect it to my pc hoping it will not recognise the c drive letter and operating system in there and just copy the files from it.

Hard Drive Problem - Data Recovery

I got a harddrive here that's running windows 98 and while you try and boot in it's just fatal error after fatal error. . Vxd's .dlls, mass blue screens and just ends in a freeze up eventually. I'd give the names of the files thats giving errors but it's literally different ones every time. I tried to get into the os from safe mode and it returned a himem.sys error. I figured the ram might be bad but it's good so i copied himem.sys from the 98 cd into windows directory in dos, but still getting the same error. I'm at a loss for what to do now and suppose the only thing i can do is try and recover the data and wipe the harddrive. I was wondering if perhaps i could connect the harddrive to my windows xp machine and salvage the data through there or if anyone has tips on how i could go about this i'd be most thankful.

New Installation Hard Drive Data Recovery

Here's the situation:

1. Had a pc with a motherboard that crashed. 2. Pc had 400 gig hard drive of which 380 gigs of data was used leaving 20 gigs remaining. 3. Replaced the motherboard and installed a new windows partition in the remaining 20 gigs of data. 4. Windows runs and everything works fine. However:

1. Old partition 'c:' says it's corrupted. New partition 'e:' says it has around 400 gigs free. 2. Even though 'c:' should contain 380 gigs of data and 'e:' should only contain the remaining 20 gigs. How do i recover my data?

Password Protect A Flash Drive

I've really been thinking of carrying some semi-important files on my flash drive lately. However, i would like a little security with it. I don't want to buy an ironkey and i don't want to truecyrpt the whole drive since that would require having the software on any computer i may plug this into. So, is there an easy way to make a password required with the drive is plugged in?

So the only options available are to enter the password or reset the drive to default(which secretly and efficiently writes 0's and 1's to the drive(lol)?

Password Protected Hard Drive

My brothers windows hasn't been able to boot and after listening to everyone's advice we decided to format his hard drive, before we do that though i wanted to get some files off of it. However when i plugged his hard drive into my computer it doesn't let me access his user files. It says access is denied and i'm guessing this is because he had a password. Is there anywhere i can get the files off of there and onto my hard drive? I have the password for it if there is anywhere i can type it in, but it doesn't ask.

Usb Drive Password Protection

Hey, is there free-ware that i can download on my flash drive to password protect it? There are some that you have to download the program on your computer and i don't want that. I want it to be just on the flash drive (portable). I also don't want to have to constantly compress and open the file whenever i want to use it, like in freeotfe or freeotfe explorer. All i want is a program that prompts for a password when opening the drive, and if it works, you see the drives contents, if not, you don't. Simple. I also don't want to pay 30 bucks for some of those i found online. I think one was great, it was usblock or something but you have to pay for the full version, and the free gives you like 4 uses before it expires. Side note: if there is a simpler way, like to just password protect a folder (which it appears that isnt possible, which baffles me with how complex our software is today that you can just password protect a regular folder) please let me know. Its just a folder i want to password protect, but cant find anything on that so i wanted to just do the whole drive.

Hard Drive Recovery Process With Mechanical Failures

Unfortunately, i have to recover data and my backup hard drive is failing. It's a mechanical failure - lots of clicks and some high-pitched squeals. Looked into hard drive recovery options and it seems like they all want to charge me hundreds or thousands of dollars. Does anybody know of a reasonably reliable hard drive recovery process that can deal with mechanical failures but at a reasonable price?

Broken Drive Caused By Data Recovery Software

I accidentally formatted a drive recently and used file scavenger to get the data back, copying everything it found onto another drive plugged into a dock. After rebooting or hotplugging the drive back into the dock it makes my computer freeze up. On reboots windows xp just hangs after the splash screen. I'm assuming i copied boot sector files or something on to the drive that i shouldn't have. Everything is accessible on the drive when i plug it into my laptop running os x, but as soon as any windows install sees the disc it either freezes up or bluescreens. Is there any way to delete the offending files and fix the disc? The only system files i see in os x is a folder "system volume information", none of the $ type files i saw when first scanning with file scavenger.

Usb Flash Drive Password Tool / Software

I recently bought a new 8gb usb flsh drive as my old one decided to die on me. Anywayz with my old 1gb flash disk it came with a disk with a small encryption utility, but i have lost the disk , and i have honestly tried most of these flash drive encryption/password apps and not one comes close. What i am looking for is either the same utility i used before or one very simalar. Why the utility that came with my old flash drive was good is because as soon as you put flash disk in it auto runned and had 3 buttons "ok" "cancel" "change password" and thats all i want, it was also good because it created some kind of "security partition?" Wich was 512kb untill you enter password, then this dissapeared and got the full 1gbish with my files, and even if you do a full format, it will not delete any files on either partition. So does anyone know what i'm talking about? The software came with an oem silver and black "samsung memory" flash drive and i honestly can't remember the name of it, and my new flash drive is a freecom databar 8gb.

Encryption (password Prompt At Boot) For A Bootable Usb Flash Drive

I set up a windows xp sp3 image with nlite, and i used winsetupfromusb to boot up the nlite answer file unto a usb flash drive. This works great, with every little interaction from my part. So, now i would like to encrypt this usb flash drive so if it gets "lost" it doesn't get distributed around. So, if there is a way to encrypt this drive and also prompt for a password to allow decryption, that would be great.

Help With Hp System Recovery

I recently had an issue with one of my hard drives in raid 0, so i had to order recovery discs from hp and reinstall the operating system. I just finished running the discs, and everything seemed to have completed successfully. After finishing, it instructed me to reboot the computer. When it loaded back up, it didn't boot windows, just opened a blue hp screen, opened command prompt and started running some codes. After this, it went to a plain yellow screen and shows two little folders with files going across. This screen has been up for about an hour, and i'm starting to get worried. Should i just wait it out? Could a bad hard drive have caused the raid failure, then somehow survived the recovery and is now causing issues? If that's the case how do i know which hard drive is bad?

Hdd Recovery Issue

I have a serious hdd recovery issue, and don't know what to do. I have a 160 gig hdd, primary and secondary is the same. I started my comp (desktop) today and suddenly it went 100% working, and i cudnt even do shift+ctrl+esc for the task manager ( os: xp pro sp1). Its been stable for a long time so all configuration is fine. This is a instant error due to some anomaly , not configuration! Ok, so after a while i pushed the restart button. This must of corrupted the drive as it was reading or writing, as now the mobo detects the hdd, but yet it is not working (i/o error). The mbr doesnt detect the disk, (i get a geometry error, due to secondary disk being listed probably as primary. ) The boot loader is grub as i have a linux box as well on prim disk. This has nothing to do with the grub being corrupted either. It simply is that the primary hdd is having an i/o error, cos i restarted the computer while it was working? I have never seen a hdd been damaged by this before, and wondering if it was some malicious code, running the hdd on purpose like that to ruin it?

In any case, xp recovery doesnt work, and no point in resetting the mbr surely as my disk is recognised, but not accessible. Is there *any* way for me to fix the i/o, or somehow does anyone know a fix for such a problem. Please help, as i keep 4 logical partitions on the physical drive, and as long as it has this i/o error, i cannot format it and rerun an os installation on the c partition.

Data Recovery - Vista

My ibm ideapad woke up with "missing/corrupt bootmgr". Not good i know, but anyways i was just gonna back up my data and give it a fresh install and everything would be better. Right. No that would be too much to ask from ms. My normal means of data backup in this situation would be to just plug hdd into another computer and copy it off. However when i plug in the drive all the data seems to be hidden. From what i figure probably a vista security. How do i get the data off? The hdd with the data was vista and i'm using an xp desktop to get the data. I see the hdd fine. Just can't access the data. Does anyone know how?

I tried using a data recovery.couldn't think of anything better. Again i can see the data just don't have permission to access it.

Unformatted Partition Recovery

I just had a partition say that it wasn't formatted. Only one of them, from a hard drive that is split into 3 partitions. It had tons of music/mp3s/tv shows/games/backups on it and i am trying to think of how to get it back. Any ideas? Right not it is showing up as an unformatted 74gb partition in my computer and disk manager. Anyone ever have a similar problem as this? I am considering formatting it (with a quick format) then trying to use a data recovery program to get the data back.

Reset Password

Answer:- which system do you use? On windows xp, try this:

Boot computer and press ctrl+alt+delete twice when you see windows welcome screen / login screen. It'll show classic login box. Now type "administrator" (without quotes) in username field and leave password field blank, press enter and you should be able to login windows. Now you can reset your account password from "control panel -> user accounts". If that doesn't or you use windows 7 or vista, try this:

1. Enter a computer that can link to internet. Download windows password recovery tool 3. 0 and install the software on that computer. 2. Run the software and create windows password reset disk by follow the instructions. 3. Eject the created cd/dvd and insert it into the locked computer. 4. Reboot the locked computer (it's necessary for you to change your locked computer's bios setting to make it boot from cd drive) and then follow the instructions to reset your password. 5. Now login windows and set a new password.
