Dvd Rw Not Recognized

I've tried to install additional ram on my amd64 (with no success, cause ram was corrupted), i've removed it and i've re-closed case, but now my dvd_rw is quite dead: bios says on secondary ide slave not installed. If i put cd/dvd on boot it says device not compatible, press f1 to resume. I don't think it's cable, because it links ide to dvd/rw (secondary slave) and then to cdrom (secondary master), and cdrom works perfectly. The only problem could be the connection to dvd/rw but when i looked at it, it seemed to me ok. Moreover dvd's tray works (opens and closes) what happened?

Hd Not Recognized In Bios

I have been putting parts into and out of my computer for a little while now (since october) and have run into minor issues which i was able to diagnose and repair myself. But then. I ordered a 8 gb of g. Skill 1333 for my xfx 780i not realizing that it doesn't support it. To fix the problem, i ordered the evga 790i that supports the gdd3 ram. While taking my computer apart to put in the new mb i accidentally snapped of the small plastic piece that holds the sata cable to the hd itself. So i ordered the new hd (i was running 2 wd 640 gb in raid) and put it in my case. Plugged everything back in and it posted first try. But the problem is that my computer doesn't recognize the "old" raided drive in the bios (or anywhere else for that matter). The new drive shows up just fine.

Dvd Burner Stuck, Cannot Finish Burning Cd Or Dvd

I have recently transplanted a dvd burner from one computer to another, but now it can't finish burning any cd's or dvd's. It gets stuck at some random percentage, and just sits, and i can't exit the burning app. (Tried nero and roxio), any ideas what's going on? Really strange, and i can't finish any burns. Been wasting lots of discs.

Dvd Burner Seen As Dvd Rom Drive Only In Vista 64

I've just upgraded to vista home premium 64 and my sony dw-q28a dvd-rw drive is not seen as a burner for cds or dvds. So if i right click on it with a re-writable disk in i do not get an 'erase' option, when i right click on a file there's no 'send to>cd' option and in media player when i click onto the burn tab, it tells me to connect a burner and restart!

This drive worked just fine in xp, then i upraded my motherboard to an asus p5e3 and installed vista and now it doesn't! I seem to have everything setup ok in the bios, i've tried re-plugging the ide & power cables and the drive name is read as sony dvd-rw but it won't function at all as a writer. Any ideas?

Laptop Dvd Rom Reads Cds But Not Dvd

I have toshiba sattelite 350 laptop, the dvd rom reads cds but not dvd. How i can resolve this?

Turn off pc/laptop. Disconnect cd/dvd drive*, turn pc/laptop on, allow to boot fully, then turn off again. Re-connect cd/dvd drive and turn on. Windows will re-build the drivers or start the 'found new hardware wizard'. If that doesn't work, log on as an administrator. ***Always back up the registry before making changes (make a restore point)***

For vista/windows 7, use the following steps to solve the issue. Click start, and then click all programs. Click accessories, and then click run. Type regedit, and then click ok. If you are prompted for an administrator password or for a confirmation, type the password, or click allow. In the navigation pane, locate and then click the following registry subkey:

Ensure that the right pane has cd/dvd drive in it. In the right pane, click upperfilters. You may also see an upperfilters.bak registry entry. You do not have to remove that entry. Click upperfilters only. If you do not see the upperfilters registry entry, you still might have to remove the lowerfilters registry entry. To do this, see 'note'. On the edit menu, click delete. When you are prompted to confirm the deletion, click yes. 'note'

In the right pane, click lowerfilters. On the edit menu, click delete. When you are prompted to confirm the deletion, click yes. Exit registry editor. Restart the computer. If you do not see the lowerfilters registry entry, this can't help you any further. *Most laptops will have either a sliding switch or 1-2 screws holding the drive in. Sliding the switch or removing these screw/s will enable the drive to be pulled from the machine.

Hd Recognized But Not Initialized (no Partitions)

I have a maxtor 200gb, eide which is fitted an icy dock wich connects the hd from a the 5inch bay to a an internal usb at the pc motherboard. The hd was running fine, just 2 months old, and i have made 2 partitions with several data files (not system disk). Now, i have lost the partitions and nothing comes up. The device manager reckognizes the hd under disk drives, but on volumes tab, it says status: not initialized, partition style not applicable, type: unknown. R-studio, also unreckognizes the partitions but when i started to scan, it reckognized the list of files in their directory structure (that is no data is lost). I stopped scanning becasue it takes ages and i assume that there is a solution for this. It also confirms there is connection from hd to pc. The last thing i did before the symptom occured was installing zoom browser 5 and wia/twain/usb drivers for the canon a95 dig camera.

Usb Device Not Recognized

Answer:- are you getting a usb device not recognizedŁ error whenever you plug in a usb mouse, keyboard, or other usb device? I love usb and have 5 ports on my computer so that i can connect my mouse, keyboard, camera, phone, and printer to it all at once!

However, last weekend, my computer stopped recognizing my usb devices! The strange thing about it was that the usb ports were not bad because all of my devices were still getting power to them. I could still charge my cell phone without a problem!

So i started with the normal fixing methods, including uninstalling the drivers for my devices and reinstalling them. That didn't work! Next i tried system restore thinking that maybe i had installed something and it caused a conflict with the usb system drivers. That didn't work!

I read online that in order to fix this problem i should go to device manager and uninstall all of the devices under usb controllers. Restarted the computer, reinstalled the usb drivers, but the problem still did not go away!

You may also see in device manager that the device shows up as an unknown deviceŁ. So how did i finally fix the problem? Well, apparently its a super simple solution! No need to edit the registry, uninstall drivers, or anything of that sort. Simply unplug your computer from the power supply. Yes that's it! Note that this does not mean just turning off your computer because modern computers don't really turn off when you press the power button as the motherboard still gets power. First to explain, the motherboard is where all of hardware of the computer is connected to, including the usb ports. Sometimes the motherboard needs to be rebootedŁ also because something can go wrong, i.e. All your usb ports suddenly stop working. The small microprocessor on the motherboard will reload the drivers and your usb ports should be back to recognizing all devices!

So first turn off your computer using shut down or pressing the power button and then unplug it from the wall outlet. Let it sit for about a minute and then plug it back in. Hope this helps someone fix that pesky usb device not recognizedŁ windows error!

No Ide Devices Recognized In Boot Up

On boot-up, after checking memory, it lists the ide masters and slaves, only each one is empty. After i manually have to press f1 to continue, i get hdd0: maxtor (etc. ), The master, as well as my optical drive listed. Why won't these two devices show up as ide masters and slaves? I've even went into the bios to have it auto-detect the master/slave configuration, yet it never finds the drives. Any one have any ideas? I believe i have the hd set to cable select as per someone's suggestion, with the optical as the slave. Is that incorrect?

Blank Discs In Drives Not Recognized

I am trying to use windows media to burn audio cd's. I have done this hundreds of times before w/o a problem. Recently, i had to reload windows onto my system. Since then i have not been able to burn audio cd's using windows media. Wm seems to be working fine in most repects. I can rip cd's onto my hard drive and can set up playlists as i always have. I can set up a list of songs to burn in the wm task pane however, when i push the "burn" button at the bottom of the task pane my cd drive opens (expelling the blank cd) and a comment box opens up. The comment box asks me to load a blank cd and that wm will start the burn when it recognises that the blank cd is loaded. I close the disc tray with the cd still in it and it still won't recognise the disc. I have two burners and this happens with both and yes, i have changed the pane option to select the proper drive location for the burning. I am sure the cd's i am using are writeable as they are the same cds i was using before i had to reload windows xp and it all worked fine then. The only thing i can figure is that during the set up of w/m, after i loaded xp, i failed to set the proper buttons and whistles. The drives appear to be running properly as i can view dvds and yes, burn from cd to cd using roxio however, roxio puts up the same comment box when trying to burn the w/m playlist thru the roxio software. I have searched for a qualified site referencing the trouble shooting of w/m and i have seen that others have similar if not the exact troubles that i am having however, there are never any answers to solve the problem.

Hard Drive Stops Getting Recognized

Sometimes my external hard drive(s) stop getting recognized by my computer. If i go to my computer it will show "local disk (i" in there but it will not have the bar under it showing how full it is and it won't let me access it. It usually takes a few minutes for it to become accessible again. It's always one of my 1tb western digital external's. Just a few minutes ago all of them became unrecognizable for about 30 seconds. What could be causing this? Could it be heat related?

Dvd Drive Shows Dvd Disc As Cd

Everything working fine until yesterday when after visiting a site that threw up a page that started trying to load viruses (which i stopped asap and ran adaware after to clean), the dvd drive suddenly started switching to a cd one when i put in a dvd - and nothings thus getting recognized at all. I've tried sys restore but it says it can't do it (least not the time frame i desire), and i've run all the utilities i can think of but not succeeding easily. Can't find better drivers than what's already loaded to install although no doubt could do so online if i knew what i needed. Running xp sp2, with a liteon dvd/rw drive. Although i'm blaming this possible 'virus' just wondering if it could be down to anything else?

Hard Drive Not Recognized On Vista 64 Bit

I physically installed the wd1600ys western digital 160gb caviar hd into the computer. Pata and sata cables. However it is not recognizing it. I had the old install disc for xp version which will not work on my vista. Now that being said i am unable to find the drivers needed for my computer to recognize it. I believe it needs western digital tools. I called the tech support at western digital and they stated the drivers are only available for vista 32 bit. My vista reads 32 programs. He couldn't tell me where those drivers were. He was pretty aggravated when he picked up probably because someone called him and complained that their cup holder( disc drive) was broke when it spilled the drink. Please direct me to a website where i may download the driver to recognize my hd.
