Xp On Boot Up Goes To Post Screen And Then Freezes

Xp home will now not boot up. The first problem i noticed was a pop up that warned me that my hard drive was nearly full depite having 8gb free. I then got the message again the next day. I did a virus scan, restore, scandisk etc, all the usual things. It now wont boot beyond the post screen and just freezes. I tried another psu, changed the motherboard, checked the ram all to no avail. I tried the hd in another computer and it worked after several boots. I did a xp repair, and it worked on the other pc. When i put it back in mine it crashed again at the same point!

Computer Freezes On Boot Up At Asus Splash Screen

My computer freezes sometimes on boot up (this happens very rarely, but is annoying when it does). When i turn it on, i see my initial asus splash screen and it just stays on this until i reset or reboot. It then boots up fine. Other than this, my computer runs flawlessly, it has never seriously crashed or frozen up when it's running. I noticed also some time after i bought/built the computer, the initial "beep" when the computer boots up disappeared. I don't know if this is related. Has anyone come across something like this? I'm thinking of actually selling off this computer as i am going to need a laptop, so i'd like to get this resolved.

Computer Freezes At Post

My pc gets to the p5w dh deluxe screen, but i can't press del to enter setup or tab to display bios post message and it won't do anything, it just stays on the p5w dh deluxe screen. It was fine when i turned it off earlier and went out, so why has it decided to go on the fritz? I'm on a different pc at the moment.

Computer Freezes ( Will Not Complete Post )

During the post, the computer makes a single beep(that is normal), it checks the video and memory, then the following:

Award modular bios v4. 51pg, an energy star ally
Copyright @1984-98, award software, inc. Asus p2b bios revision 1012
Pentium iii 450mhz processor
Memory test : 524288k ok

Award plug and play bios extension v1. 0a(this is the point where my computer freezes and goes no further, i can't even boot from a floppy). I have tried various memory configurations and they all seem to detect ok. This same problem occurred on a asus p299 motherboard. I have tried installing a different cd rom, 3 1/2 floppy, etc. The only thing i haven't tried is a new cpu and/or hard drive (10gb fujitsu with win xp home installed). Twice the computer has gone further and actually booted up and acts normal, but 95% of the time it won't even boot! What should i replace next? It seems like it is a controller problem!

Computer Will Post, But Freezes On Windows Install

After installing some new hardware, i went to install an os, and it fails on starting the install. The weird thing is, it actually posts and i get partway through the initial loading of the setup before it freezes. The first thing i tried to do is install winxp 64. I put the cd in, and it loads all of the drivers, but as soon as it gets to the "starting windows" part, it freezes. I don't even get as far as being able to choose which hard drive to install on. (The first time i tried to install, it froze- the second time i tried it, it would reboot every time it got this far. Now, it freezes every time. )

I then tried to install winxp 32bit, and was able to load the sata drivers from a floppy, but after the drivers were loaded, i had the same problem: it froze when it got to "starting windows", before being able to choose a partition. I'm wondering if maybe i set something wrong in the bios, or maybe a jumper? Or am i drawing too much power? Or do you folks have any other suggestions? I haven't had a hardware problem with any of the other components before installing these new processors.configurations:-
Motherboard: msi k8t master2-far (supports 2 cpus, but not dual-core cpus)
Ram: 1 gb (2x512) corsair pc3200 (cmx512re-3200llpt)
Power supply: 400w silverstone strider (sst-st40f)
Hard drives: sata western digital caviar se (wd1600jd), seagate barracuda ide ultra ata100 (st3120026a)
Video card: ati x850 pro, agp 8x
I was replacing my processor (amd opteron 242) with two amd opteron 248s.

Computer Displays Post Screen Then Went To Black Screen

My computer has been running sluggish for about two days now. Was searching the web the other day and computer just came to a halt and froze. So i rebooted the computer and then it wouldn't start up. It displays the post screen but after that it went to a black screen with a white bar at the bottom of the screen. Looked like a progress bar. Rebooted again but same thing. Popped in the os disc and tried a check desk and fdisk and it came up with some errors. Got to stage 4 of 5 on them and then stopped at 50% for hours. So today i started it up again and it finally booted to the windows logo and then finally to desktop. Took around 30mins to do so. Hard drive light indicator is always on for the most part and takes forever to load applications. Okay, i guess my question is this about to be a hard drive failure? Never had one so clueless of what it is but would think it would have something to do with the hard drive. Also before it froze the other day, applications started being really slow. For example it took 10mins just for the save file dialog box to pop up to save a file.

Pc Will Not Boot, No Post Beep

My wife and i have matching custom built pc's. Recently the liquid cooling system in her pc needed to be flushed and refilled. I removed the mobo from the computer, pulled the cooling system from the cpu, flushed and refilled, cleaned and prepped both heatsink and cpu and applied new thermal compound, reassembled the system and turned it on. First time after flush it ran fine for about 10 minutes, then shut down normally (on it's own). Since then it has not booted properly. The indicator light on the mobo is illuminated, showing that there is power. Upon pressing the pwr switch, all devices begin to run, all fans, drives, and keyboard/mouse turn on, but the bios never starts to boot, and no post beep sounds. I am thinking that it is most likely the mobo or cpu but was hoping that someone could post an alternative here that i could try before shelling out the $200-$300 for replacement parts as everything is past warranty (by like 3 months).

No Boot, No Post, No Video

It will not reach post when booted. I switch my pc on and all hardware loads eg (sound cards, network cards hdd's etc) but it wont pass the post, or even reach it. The hdd light blinks once then blinks again where it will then stay on. If i just plug in my primary hdd, it will blink once and then stay on. Im also sure that the fdd will not boot either, or in any case, read or test/detect its presence. But the monitor light still blinks, as it has not detected the machine or the video card.

Abit At8 Won't Boot - Post Code 90

I've had this problem with my system since i built it, but it seems to have gotten worse lately. When i start up my system, it powers up but doesn't post. The code on the motherboard led display is 90 (which corresponds to "completed uguru initial process: award bios taking over boot job") but it hangs there indefinitely. If i do a reset, it switches over to code f0 (which just says "button rest") and then hangs there indefinitely. Usually, if i do some esoteric combination of hitting the reset and power buttons, it will eventually post correctly (i know this sounds ridiculous, but it's true). But i can't seem to replicate it now. Any help is appreciated. I've swapped all sorts of hardware in and out including the memory and the cpu and it doesn't affect this whatsoever. -Athlon 64 3500+
-Abit at8
-Kingston hyperx 4x 1gb
-Asus en9800gtx+

No Post Screen Or Bios Beep

An old amd xp1600 system gave up the ghost. I've replaced the psu with a qtec 350w, replaced the mobo with an asus p4r800 vm and the new cpu is a p4 2. 8 ht and changed the memory to 512mb ddr400.connected all the ide cables, cpu fan cable, and both power cables to mobo and the front panel connectors to the header. When i power up the pc the cd/dvd drives work, cpu fan spins, power led on mobo lights and hdd makes encouraging sounds but no post screen or bios beep. Have tried reseating and checking all the connectors but still no joy. Anybody got any ideas why i shouldn't be getting a beep or post screen?

Corrupt Screen - Post / Bios

Last night i had a nasty computer crash (comp in signature) while playing l4d. I was oc'd to 3. 8ghz, so immediately i went to bios to reset my settings to default. During the process i noticed garbage on my screen during post, and when i got into bios and was seeing random characters / garbage all over the screen. I don't know what to make of this. Another bit of info that might hint at what's going on; the previous night i was also playing l4d, and while my system didn't crash, my video card was getting extremely hot. I normally keep my 4870x2's fan speed at 45% while in game, but this wasn't enough and and my card automatically increased it's fan speed on it's own to compensate. I checked my temps and while my first gpu was showing normal-high temps, under 100c, the memio sensor (through everest) was registering at 145c!

I immediately cranked my fan to 100% - but kept playing. One other note, i'm using a modded bios. Please help me figure out what to do.

Boots And Freezes Or Does Not Boot At All

Even after reformatting, i occasionaly get blue screens regarding the cache when playing dvd's. Right now, the following is happening upon booting the system:

1) boots and runs
Or
2) boots and freezes @ the desktop
Or
3) checks cd rom, dvdrom, floppy and does not boot w/out any beeps. Or
4) 4 bios beeps while checking the cd rom, dvd rom, floppy drive. If it gets down to #3 or #4 it's pretty much stuck there for the next few hours (upon trying to reboot). But if i leave the sys alone and try to boot in a few hours, it is able to do #1 or #2. I'm thinking it's one or more of the following:

- Ram
- Motherboard
- Powersupply
- Cd or dvd drive ( which i doubt but egh )

Initializing Usb Controllers On The Post Screen

My computer has an issue with it's first power on in the morning. It will reach "initializing usb controllers" on the post screen, then sit there until i power off and power back on, then it goes through post fine. Any idea why it does this? Also, whenever i go into setup, my keyboard doesn't seem to work at all. Num lock doesn't light up, none of the keys are useful in navigation at all. Anyone have any idea on how to fix this? Never buy the asus m2a mvp, gice. More usb troubles than, something with about 3209403589320495 usb related problems.

Pc Starts To Boot And Freezes Before Windows

I turned on the pc and the "intel desktop boards" screen appears. And that is it! Usually that would flash and the next screen would be detecting my ide card and recognizing the hard drives but it doesnt even get there. The screen that it is stuck on shows the processor speed, how much ram, and that the keyboard, mouse, and the usb legacy is enabled. The bottom says hit f2 to run set up and f12 if you want to boot from network. I can not get into the bios. The most i made it do was get it to say "entering setup" by hitting f2 as soon as the page came up. But it never goes anywhere after that. Frozen! Any advise would be greatly appreciated. I am not a computer wiz, just a long time tinkerer. I have built 2 or 3 in my lifetime and have just basic knowledge.

Pc Freezes Or Won't Boot

Well i've been on my laptop for about a month now because my pc won't work. I decided that since i have some free time finally, now is the time to troubleshoot and hopefully fix!

90% of the time it will boot into windows (xp pro) no problem. After about 30 seconds to a minute (it varies), it just completely freezes up. The computer stays on, but the screen just freezes. I've tried uninstalling the video card drivers and reinstalling some older whql ones. I've tried taking out 1 stick of ram at a time to see if it has something to do with the ram. Even booting into safe mode yields the same freezes. Sometimes, it won't boot at all. It just gives me one long beep, followed by 3 smaller ones. Any ideas?

On Bootup Pc Screen Flickers - Post Was Interrupted Or Overclock

What the computer does is on bootup, the screen flickers, and sometimes it gets to the windows screen and goes black, and sometimes it doesn't and still goes black. The lights in the front of the case(trinity atx mid-tower case) go red. This was also occuring before i installed the new power supply; i assumed my power supply was dead and it needed to be replaced. Any ideas? The computer is almost 3 years old, but i've replaced the power supply 3 times(when the computer arrived, another one about a year and a half later and once today) and the motherboard once(about 6 months ago), and the cpu once. Atm, i can't boot up in safe mode, either, but i can access the bios. My first thoughts are:

Fried video card. Problem in bios(i did reset it to the default)

I suppose it's also possible that i installed the psu wrong, but the fact that the computer is doing the same thing tells me that it's not. Also, prior to installing the new psu the computer was saying at boot that the post was interrupted or overclock fail(or something like that), but i don't overclock. Since installing the new psu, it has stopped saying that at boot.computer specifications:

Nvidia 7800 gtx. Asus a8v-xe.amd athlon 3400+. 48x cd-rw, 16x dvd-rom
2048 mb ram ddr-400(2x 512 1x 1024)
160 gb hard drive [s-ata] western digital 160 gb 7200 rpm 8mb cache
Power supply 500w

Computer Boot Up Problem, After Power On It Stays 5 Seconds Then Freezes

Dell dimension 1100. O. S. Windows xp home edition. Problem:

When i power on the computer it stays for about 5 seconds, then there is a click and it freezes. Nothing shows on the screen – no logo etc.completely dead the green light on front of computer tower remains fixed on. I have tried following:

Disconnected memory card and reseated it, disconnected sound card and reseated (no more cards). Disconnected all cables to motherboard and devices and reseated them. Disconnect mouse, keyboard, monitor. But it never gets beyond the first five seconds of booting up. A few days before the problem came i saw the following warning message:

"Power surge on hub port. A usb device has exceeded power limits of its hub port". I have pursued this and downloaded a patch from dell to remedy this problem: but i cannot install the patch as i cannot get my computer going. Any ideas on how to solve this? Second could the problem be related to this ‘power surge on hub port’.

Computer Freezes On Boot - Long Time To Load Windows

I was having issues with a game of mine hard locking my pc. The only way to get out of it was to hold down the power button and force the pc to power down, then boot back up. Trying to trouble shoot the game, this happened several times. Then, it started freezing on the memory test. It's not really freezing, though - if i leave it sit for a very long time ( 5 to ten minutes ), it will eventually boot into windows. Any ideas?

Computer Problems - Double Boot Up, Double Post, Disk Error

The problems i am experiencing are having a boot disk error, a double boot up (double post) almost as if its not successful trying to boot up. Also. My bios seems to be changing when i boot up, under boot sequence it wont even show the hard drive is there at times, and changes other boot options. Does anyone possibly know what this problem could be? I have tried replacing the cmos battery, but this does not solve anything.

Pc Freezes After The Windows Loading Screen

I put all the hardware together and installed windows vista into it. The computer boots to cd fine and it is able to install windows into the computer. The computer goes through the initial installation, restarts once to finish installing, restarts again to load windows and do the final steps of the installation, but it freezes after the windows loading screen (the black screen with a small bar showing progress on the bottom) after about 10 seconds of loading, the screen turns black. An artifacted white line appears at the top for 1 second, then turns black again. The computer freezes as this point as ctrl+alt+delete does nothing and pressing numlock/caps does not turn the lights on/off on the keyboard. This is what i have tried before running out of ideas:

-Tested the video card on a separate computer and it worked fine
-Removed the ram and attempted to boot the computer 1 stick at a time. It still frooze on the same screen. -Re-installed windows twice, the second time i re-installed i used a different version of the install (without sp1). Every time i re-installed, it failed at the same spot. So what else could i do? If my test were accurate, then this should point towards the motherboard/processor. I have no idea how to check if these are working correctly. I don't have another computer that fits the same cpu, or enough parts or an extra processor to fit on the computer.

System Freezes And The Screen Goes Blurry

I just had it fixed and the same problem still occurs! The guy who repaired it said that it is not a problem in my computer but in the software. I tried to re-install xp, tried different drivers for the graphics card etc but nothing seems to help. And this is the problem: couple times a day my system freezes and the screen goes blurry. I hear one "beep" and the whole computer is stuck. Sometimes when i wait, the screen flashes and everything is okay again, but usually only rebooting helps.

Battlefield 2 Game Stops And Screen Freezes

This only started yesterday but my battlefield 2 game litterly "stops" while playing while everything else keeps going. Like my screen freezes but when i'm frozen i can be killed or i crash while flying/driving. Now i've repatched the game but i'm might reinstall it if it persists. Possible causes:

- A widescreen patch i tried out (made no difference so i uninstalled it)
- Ram, i recently put in an extra 2gb's of kingston ddr2 667 ram (i now have 4gb's of ram)

Computer Freezes On The Windows Loading Screen

I went to use my computer today and noticed that there was no sound. I checked all of the physical connections which seem fine and then rebooted. After rebooting the sound came back for a while but then gradually increased in static before failing again completely. I reinstalled the ac 97 drivers (it's an onboard soundcard for the asus a8n-sli mobo) to no avail. I also had the entire computer lock up twice and reboot itself while trying to fix the sound. A few reboots later the operating system would run normally for about 2 seconds before completely locking for 2 and repeating this pattern. Task manager showed me that the cpu was alternating between ~ 5% usage to 100% when it would lock and back and forth in the 2 second pattern. I completely shut down the computer and when i attempted to boot back into windows, my computer now freezes on the windows loading screen. The bar will move across roughly 10 or so times before freezing completely! If i try a reset, it will not even detect the drive that windows is installed on! It will only reappear if i power the machine off and back on again!

I am able to boot into windows in safe mode, and i tried using system restore and msconfig to turn off all of the startup services and programs but i am still unable to do a normal boot into windows. I also tried doing a repair install of xp and the repair installation will get to the installing drivers step of the installation before abrubtly rebooting and attempting to continue the setup in an endless loop. I am currently running chkdsk /r in the windows recovery console but i'm somewhat doubting this will fix the problem.

Then i turn it off, back on again and i get the message "warning overclocking failed. "

Which is strange as i haven't tried o/c it yet, then i reboot *again* and it loads ok, any ideas?

Hardlocks, Screen Freezes, Sound System Makes Noises

When playing games such as cc: generals and planetside, the system will randomly hardlock (screen freezes, sound system makes a horrible screeching noise and then loops the most recent audio about 2 seconds back, or sometimes no audio at all) and the only way to get out of it is to hit the reset button on the case. I have never had a crash when doing normal operations such as web browsing or word processing or playing mp3's. Now, originally i though it was an overheating issue, so i picked up the thermaltake cpu cooler, and the case now has two 120mm fans (one suck, one blow) and a pci slot fan next to the ati card. At idle, my cpu and mobo are at about 75 degrees, under load, they never exceed 105 degrees. I also thought it may have been the audio subsystem on the mobo causing it, so i installed the audigy 2. I assume it must be a memory issue. My friend built a system that had an asus mobo that used rambus memory, and he found that it was extremely picky about what brand of memory it used. I have tried running memtest86 and the program has never completed all the tests. It always crashes, but always at different spots of different tests. I thought i saw a post on here a while ago that said kingston hyperx memory worked well on asus boards. I wanted to check with you guys, to see if there is anything else i overlooked before i went and bought a gig of memory (i might as well upgrade right? Any other causes for the hardlocks? Any known compatibility problems with asus/corsair or asus/kingston.

Screen Freezes When Load Browser Page With Flash Movie

When i load a browser page that has flash movie, or if i load up guild wars, then the computer will completely lockup, the screen freezes, mouse/keyboard dont work, hard drive light is one solid color, and it remains like that forever, until i turn it off and back on. The weird thing is when i hit the reset button it actually wont make the screen freeze go away i hear/see the cd drives doing the power reset, but the frozen image still remains on the screen!

But when i power off and power on, it boots up again. Sometimes it will freeze again right away, other times it will happen after say 10+ hours of use. Anyone know what could be causing this? Mem test reported 0 errors. Prime95 wasnt crashing either. I'm thinking maybe its the video card?

Black Screen On Boot

I'm having problems with sil's computer. 600mhz celeron. About 6 years old i guess. Think it's a bad motherboard but would like some input. She was having many many problems, not booting into windows. She just had the power supply replaced. Recently it would freeze on boot, after many tries would work. But then it stopped altogether while i was visiting, freezing on beginning bios screen. I took it apart. Removed everything, hd's all pci cards, cd's etc. Then i cleared the cmos. After i did that i couldn't even get it to boot into the bios. Simply a black screen. No beeps, nothing from motherboard. I even removed the memory to see if i'd get any warning beeps, award bios. Nothing! Did i do something wrong when clearing cmos? I had the mb manual right there. I happened to have purchased for my son a very similar computer that weekend for $35, which works great. Tried using that cpu, same kind, nothing. Used the $35 memory, nothing. Sil lives 800 miles away, so i took it home with me. Since i've tried different jumper settings clock, ratio. Nothing. Replaced cmos battery. Still nothing, no beeps, no bios. Cpu is seated properly, heat sink too. Motherboard looks fine on inspection, no blown capacitors, but i guess it's fried? Anything i might have missed before trashing it?

Delayed Blank Screen On Boot Up

I just got an aiw x800 xt, upgrading from a 9800 pro, and the screen goes blank on boot up. It's not always at the same time. Sometimes i can go into my bios and wait around for the display to go blank, and other times i can almost get into windows. Actually, i did start to see the blue background in windows one time before the display went out. And when it goes blank, i can't simply push reset and have the display come back. I have to turn the power completely off and then back on in order for the display to work for a little while. I have an asus a7n8x deluxe motherboard. My power supply came with my case, which is an antec performance something or another case. The power supply is a true power 450 or 480, i can't remember. I'll try to get more detailed specs, but if anyone has any idea of what could cause the display to just give out like it's doing well, it would definitely help me out a lot.

Black Screen - Pc Powers Up But Will Not Boot

I recently purchased a computer. I just replaced the stock heatsink with a thermaltake big typhoon from newegg, and i installed new motherboard mounting screws as well. I had to remove the motherboard in order to do this. Now, when i press the power button, the fans go on, the new cpu fan turns on, the video card fan goes, and the power led is on. However, all i get is a black screen. I have experimented and found that the harddrive does not make noise unless i unplug the ide cable first. Similarily, the dvd rw tray does not open unless i first unplug the ide cable to it. I think it is a motherboard issue, but i could be wrong.
