Asus P5b Vista Edition Or Asus Striker Extreme
I am going to build a new computer very soon and my choice of a mobo is the asus striker extreme. Since vista is out though, i would love some input if it would make sense to buy one of the new "vista ready" mobos asus makes, like the p5b premium vista edition. What is your take please? Striker or p5b vista?

Asus M4a89gtd Vs Asus Crosshair Iv Formula
Is the asus m4a89gtd pro/usb better or worse than asus crosshair iv formula - motherboard?
Answer:- crosshair lv formula is the better board. It uses the better 890fx chipset that supports more pcie lanes. It can handle 2-way crossfire, both at x16 pcie links and 4-way crossfire at x8 pcie link per slot. The m4a89gtd pro uses the cheaper 890gx chipset that supports less number of pcie lanes. The m4a89gtd pro has only two pcie graphics slot. It can run on x16pcie link on the primary slot but when in 2-way crossfire mode, each slot will only run on x8 pcie link.

Cant Load Sound Driver From Asus Striker Extreme
I have an asus striker extreme mobo, c2d 2. 13ghz, bfg 8800gts, 2megs of corsair ddr800, seagate barricuda 320 gig at 7200. I installed all on a new case and everything runs perfect except the sound. The soundmax adi1988 card that comes with the mobo does not load. The driver install says i need an hd audio bus driver and that it is not found. What is this particular driver and will this prevent me from installing a different card in the future. Can i get one? I tried changing things in the bios and running the driver from the asus website but to no avail.

Asus Maximus Formula Wont Support Dual Non Sli Video Cards?
I'm trying to add two different ati cards to an asus maximus formula in non-sli mode to allow me to use 3 or 4 monitors, but my pc wont boot with both cards installed. Why? I have an ati 4870x2 in the primary pci-e slot, and i've tried both an ati hd 2400xt and nvidia 8800gt - same problem with both. I'm using a 700w power supply, and there's no other pci or pci-e cards installed - i can't get any display or hdd activity. If i remove the second card, pc boots fine again. All cards have been tested individually and all are working ok. Does anyone have any ideas?

Asus A8r32-mvp Deluxe, Cpu Fan Error
Basically i got a "cpu fan error!" Message every time i started my computer. My fan speed was good, a bit over 3000 rpm, so i just bypassed it and kept using my computer as usual. After a while the motherboard would beep sometimes and the computer would freeze for a few seconds. This happened more and more often until sometimes it would do that nonstop and i had to turn the computer off by holding the power button. So i go into the bios and disabled the fan speed monitoring. That doesn't help, i still get the cpu fan error message. Here's where it gets interesting: after much fiddling around with the settings and bios and whatnot, it still gets the cpu fan error but now it seems to be unable to detect my operating system (windows xp). It goes through the startup procedure and after the mobo screen it displays "reboot and select proper boot device or insert boot media in selected boot device and press a key. " The primary boot device is the hard drive, which used to have no problem starting up as early as this afternoon. (On another note, the cpu fan error seems to have stopped)
I just would like some suggestions as to what is going on and how i can fix this. I'm pretty sure i destroyed my os and will need to reformat or something equally silly. (By the way, i tried putting the windows cd in the drive and booting from that and selecting repair the os. It gave some error about not finding an os to repair. If you think it helps i can go and get that error text again. )

Asus A8n-e Boot Problem (beep Error Code)
I've been running xp on a asus a8n-e motherboard for a good while without any problems. The other day i replaced my hiper type r 580w psu with a corsair hx 520w, and now the pc won't boot and beeps 1 long followed by 3 short. I've stripped it down to bare essentials (motherboard, vc, memory and cpu) but i get the same problem. The problem also persist when i reconnect the hiper psu. 1. Reseating everything. 2. Using any possible combination of memory stick(s) and slots. 3. Resetting the cmos. The rest of the pc is as per sig, with the exception for vista which will be installed when (if!?) I can sort this.

Computer Shutdown
I have a intel 850gb mobo and i formatted my hdd 2x thinking it was a bad install. When i hit start, shudown, not restart the computer goes thru the powering down phrase i hear the familiar click of the hdd whichs turns it off and bam, the hdd is off but the mobo and fans including cpu are still on. I replaced the power supply to no avail. I have to hit the reset button then the power button to quickly too turn off computer. Strange, im thinking the mobo is not sending the signal to the power supply commanding it to turn off. My hdd is new and was working finr, i like to reformat my hdd 2x a year to clean off the mess.

Computer Shutdown Randomly
I built my computer a few years ago and have had no problems (p4). Today it decided to shutdown randomly. I tried rebooting but it would turn on like it was going to start but bios would not post and it would shut down after about 5 seconds. My first inclination was that it was a failing power supply. Replaced that without any luck. The odd thing is that when i plug in both power components from the ps to the mobo it turns on and after five seconds turns off;
Yet, when i do not have the 12v 4pin plugged in, the computer stays running, although it does not load windows. I checked the ram, light on mobo is on, nothing smells fried, i'm hoping it is not the mobo.

Pc Shutdown - Buzzing Noises
Recently my computer has been randomly shutting itself down. Immidiatly after the shutdown a loud buzzing/beeping noise occurs from the front of the pc. My computer is custom made from the internet, and so i dont know who to contact. The part making the noise is a small black circular object, about the size of a 10c piece. Its connected to my motherboard by a black/red wire. I believe the wire goes next to the wires for my on/off, reset, and on & working lights. I replaced my hard drive as my university technician told me my hd was seizing, however that isnt the problem. Any ideas suggestions to my problem? Or could someone tell me what this noisey black thing is! And how can i fix it!

Reboots When Shutdown Is Complete
When i go to shutdown on my comp it goes to shutdown then as it has finished shutting down it automatically reboots. Have tried unchecking automatic restart in system properties to no avail, have heard that a new graphics card could be a prob but not too sure about that.

Computer Does Not Turn Off After Shutdown ?
I have an old opteron desktop that i will be using as a home server. The issue i've been having for the past few months is that it will not physically turn off after the os finishes shutting down. It used to, when i was using it as my main desktop, so i have no idea what has changed. What i have tried:
Windows 7 professional x64
Windows server 2008 r2 x64
Windows xp professional sp2
Reset bios
Install nvidia chipset drivers from manufacturer cd
Windows xp sp3
Ubuntu 7. 10
Flash bios to 4/06/2006 from 3/29/2006
Things i have tried since posting:
Unplug hard drives, boot ubuntu livecd, halt
In all of the operating systems i have tried, none can successfully turn off the computer. The only indication that the computer is supposed to have shut off is that i hear something turn off (hard drive maybe), and then all power would normally be cut, but now that sound doesn't happen in xp after installing the nvidia drivers. I have tried disabling usb power suspend in server 2008, with no effect. Any assistance is greatly appreciated!
Edit: the os's shutdown screen remains on the display after it "shuts down". Specs:
Amd opteron 144 1. 8ghz
Dfi lanparty nf4 ultra-d (modded to sli-d)
3gb ddr-400
Two geforce 7600 gt (one is out of the machine right now)
Single 160gb ide hard drive
Single 320gb sata2 hard drive

Pc Reboot When Set To Shutdown
I have a hp dc5700 and i just installed a nvidia 8400 pci. When i shutdown the pc it restarts. I tested without the card and the on board video works fine and the computer shuts down properly. Tried reinstalling the drivers and un-checking automatic reboot to see if it was blue screening, but nothing. There are no errors in the log and the pc works fine. I am leaning toward hardware (either the motherboard or video card). Any suggestions?

Windows Has Been Shutdown To Prevent Damage To Your Computer
When i'm installing from my windows xp disk the initial blue screen comes up saying it's loading all the stuff from the cd basically and then i get the error message as follows:-
A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer. If this is the first time you've seen this stop error screen, restart your computer. If this screen appears again, follow these steps:
Check to be sure you have adequate disk space. If a driver is identified in the stop message, disable the driver or check with the manufacturer for driver updates. Try changing video adapters. Check with your hardware vendor for any bios updates. Disable bios memory options such as caching or shadowing. If you need to use safe mode to remove or disable components, restart you computer, press f8 and select advanced startup options, and then select safe mode. Technical information:
*** Stop: 0x0000007e (0xc0000005, 0xf748e0bf, 0xf78da208, 0xf78d9f08)
*** Pci.sys - address f748e0bf base at f7487000, datestamp 3b7d855c
I have no idea what would cause this. I'm over-clocking my cpu some some bios settings are changed, could setting them back to defaults solve this issue? It doesn't really make sense to me. Please, i'd be grateful for any advice.

Computer Idle Mode - Which Is Better Shutdown Or Standby ?
Since shutdown takes huge power while start up and shut downing the system and standby also consumes power. For better power usage. I want suggestion on shutdown and standby. Depending upon the time that computer sits idle. (i.e if computer is idle for 1 hr it is better to shutdown.

Can you wire a button into a computer (through serial, mobo jumpers, whatever) with a suitable utility so that the button doesn't do a hard powerdown (atx style) but instead uses the windows shutdown?
What would be even more convinient is if the same button could be used for power on / shutdown, but i'm not sure if that is possible. I guess the easiest solution is if there is a utility that lets the atx power on/off button access the windows shutdown sequence. Is there?
Does anyone understand what i'm asking, and does anyone have any suggestions?

Power Issue On Shutdown, Fans Do Not Stop, Led Flicker
Just put together a new machine, but using an old antec case and 350w psu (antec sl350s) and some other old hardware. First i started just plugging in the mobo with ram and heatsink (so, no peripherals connected, not even hd or the video card) and i notice that when i power down by holding down the front power button, the cpu fan stops, but the case and psu fans keep going! I have to switch off using the psu switch to shut everything down. Well, that's weird, but i still move on. However, with all the new hardware plugged in, the problem gets worse. Now when i switch off using the front power button:the case and psu fan are still onthe power led is off, but the hd led starts flickering very rapidlythe floppy drive starts grinding loudly and angrily; leave the system in this state, and the grinding dies down (but never goes away), then comes back after a few minutes, although i haven't done anything (the box is just sitting there)
The real problem is, the system does not boot after that! If i turn off the psu switch, then turn it back on, the clicking/flickering comes back. Pushing the front power button makes the cpu fan jerk, but it does not start on and the system does not start booting. But if i wait a few minutes with the psu switched off, i can boot up after that. This need to wait for a while is bothering me. What could be going wrong? Are these symptoms of a faulty power supply? How should i proceed diagnosing this?
So to conclude, my system goes into this weird twisted state where hd led flickers and floppy clicks at about the same rate and the power/reset button do nothing. The state is reachable if i power down using the front power button, or if i flip the psu switch off and back on after that (but if i wait for a few minutes before switching it back on, then fans do not come back on and i can boot just fine). My system (items marked "new" are the stuff i just bought, the rest is components that have been working for at least a few months):
Cpu: amd athlon 64 x2 5000+ 2. 60ghz dual-core (new)
Cpu heatsink/fan: noctua nh-c12p cpu cooler (new)
Motherboard: asus m2n-sli (new)
Ram: 2 x 1024mb ocz platinum revision-2 pc6400 ddr2 800mhz dual channel (new)
Video card: evga geforce 6200 256mb ddr2 pci video card (only bought it because mobo doesn't have on-board video, dang) (new)
Psu: 350w antec sl350s
Hard drive: 160gb sata 3. 0gb/s samsung spinpoint
Other peripherals: promise 2-port sata 3. 0gb/s raid controller card
Case: antec slk3700-bqe
Case fan: some 120mm antec fan that came with the case

What Mobo ? Asus P5n32-e Sli Or Asus P5e-x38
Im having a little trouble deciding on what mobo to buy, im currently setting up a new system and thought i might be interested in sli at a later date, except i have been told sli motherboards dont support more then ddr2 800 mhz, and i have 2g kingston pc8500 1066mhz ram. And im not sure sli is that stable yet. In the other hand i could get a asus p5e-x38 and that supports the ram i require, is there any point getting sli at the moment, or just stick with the good ole single! System specs:
Intel conroe core 2 duo e6750
Thermaltake soprano dx
(2x) seagate sata2 500gig
Coolermaster realpower 600watt psu
Ddr2 2g(2 x 1g) pc8500 1066mhz ddr2 ram kingston
What does that mean? (Available when cpus are ready for 1333mhz fsb)

Asus En9800gtx+top With Asus P5q Pro
Asus en9800gtx+top with asus p5q pro (cold reboots random time)
At first i have to say that your forum is really great!
Thats my first reply but im kinda old reader. I have a cold reboot issue at many pcs. My specs are:
Asus p5q pro(mobo)
Asus en9800gtx+ top 512(vga)
2 x 2gb kingston hyperx 800mhz (ram)
Powersonic 750w (psu)
I have cold reboots in random time, by running games, applications or by doing nothing. I have try to update my bios to latest version. Using last or previous driver for my vga. Using another psu/ram. My system works file only with different vga (different model from 9800gtx+top). I have test these in many pcs, it cant be hardware problem, i mean i have test too many of these mobos and vga (same model). I have googled and read that the 9800gtx+top is a overcloacked version, and i think there is something wrong with this combination (p5q pro - 9800gtx+top)
I have to sorry for my english and thx in advance. Hope someone have solve this problem with p5q pro and en9800gtx+top.

Error: Stop: C000021a Fatal System Error
It was working fine yesterday. But then i started my comp and i saw the motherboard logo. Then usual testing. Then the windows logo. But right before it was ready to go to logon screen it shows the blue screen with some fatal error:
Stop: c000021a {fatal system error}the session manager initialization system process terminated unexpectedly with a system status 0xc000026c, i thought itwas the virus i got few days ago. I put different harddrives in different os's but nothing works. Even trying to restore stops. Everything stops with some fatal error. Now i'm pretty sure it's the hardware. But how do i know which part it is. I mean more likely it's the video card. Cause i overclocked it, but how do i find out for sure what's causing the problem
Is it even hardware? I'm completely clueless. Please help. My stupid windows xp doesnt start on other comps. I'm pretty sure it works just doesnt like hardware. But it contains a lot of information i cant delete.

Error: Stop: 0x0000007e - Windows Loading Error
I have encountered a problem when installing windows xp on a bare system. It starts up fine, then loads into the windows blue screen, checking for hardware configuration, but then upon windows startup, it stops and announces an error. Stop: 0x0000007e (0xc0000005, 0x80840a02, 0xf78d205c, 0xf78d1d58). Any advice as to what to do would be helpful, i believe the problem to be either having the cpu been installed (physically) but no drivers yet in place or something to do with the hdd configuration.
