Windows Randomly Lock Up, Act As If Cpu Is Under 100% Load
Replies: 7 | Post Date: 01-17-2008, 07:57 AM | User: Lateralex | Forums: hardforum.comI'll spare you the details, but my machine has become unstable recently. I was overclocking recently but one of these issues persisted before the oc. Since it's got weird my pc has gone back to stock settings which haven't fixed anything. Windows will randomly lock up, and act as if the cpu is under 100% load. It isn't. The pc will now poweroff after shutdown. The monitor switches off but the power/fan run to the cpu. When trying to image my c: drive to a backup it will always fail. I got a bsod last night trying this. I've ran chkdsk a few times and everytime it has found and "repaired" bad sectors. I booted into ms memory ram checker, no errors, the comp can still play games fine when i first boot up, it's afterwards thing get flaky, my os hard drive is pretty old, which is why i targeted that first. I've seen some abnormal temps coming from there in the past. How do i test psu to elimate that from the equation?

Whenever im finished downloading something, or loading a game, or doing anything that takes a lot of cpu power for more than 4 or 5 seconds, my computer will completly freeze and. My keboard, and everything locks up. I end up pressing the reset button my computer so i can get back to whatever i was doing. I have found this happening whenever i try to load half-life 2. I never had a problem before so im not sure what could be causing this. My specs are in my signature. And nothing has been overclocked.

Computer Randomly Restarts Cause Of Cpu Temperature
Just trying to see what an optimal temperature for a computer should be. I came across a computer that randomly restarts, once restarted, it'll still work again for awhile, but then restart again. In the bios, it's detecting the cpu temp at 85 c (or 170-185 f) and the mb temp is showing roughly 40 c (which i figure is good), the cpu temp is what i'm wondering about. This is a p4 3. 4ghz running win xp pro.

Error: System Failed Cpu Test - Computer Randomly Shuts Down
Basically, my computer randomly shuts down. Not shuts down through windows, just plain shuts off. Now its been suggested that this is either the power supply or the cpu fan, but i don't know which and really have no idea of that out. I have an antec 350w power supply on an asus p4c800 deluxe and a pentium 4. I am also getting an error message sometimes when i start up (sometimes after the random shutdown, sometimes not) that the "system failed cpu test, " but again i have no idea how to correct this. This isn't as bad because i just try again after that message and the computer boots up fine.

Unable To Load Windows, Partial New Install
During bootup, case lights come on, including blue cathodes, fans, etc, i get no beep codes, the screen initially flashes the indentity of the vid card installed, then goes to intell splash page, then to the unable to load windows screen with many options such as boot in normal mode, safe mode, etc.computer specifications:
Mobo - intel 865perl (new)
Cpu - intel p4 2. 4c boxed (new)
Memory- corsair 3200 ddr 1024mb twinx dual channel (new) (1 stick each installed in channel a raid 0, channel b raid 0). Video - gainward geforce fx5600 128mb ddr, ultra 760 tv/dvi. (New). Hard drive - wd 40gb
Power supply - icute 430watt (new). Only things on mobo right now are cpu, mem, video card. Board has current bios (verified on intel site). In bios, verified cpu, memory, etc. I've had problems with "no signal" on other builds, but those were memory problems. The twin corsair sticks are installed properly, 1 in channel a raid0 and the other in channel b raid0. The bios recognizes them (1024mb) as well. Any ideas on why i can't get the os to load?

Laptop Won't Load Windows Xp
Yesterday i dropped my laptop (ah!) On a hardwood floor. I have a toshiba satellite m100/m105. As soon as it dropped the screen went black and basically the power to it went out. This worried me, but then i just pressed the power button on the computer and it restarted and seemed to work fine! Until i restarted my computer again today because the internet was locked up. Anyway, so i restarted and a black screen came up that said windows was unable to load correctly and to run windows as normal, run in safe mode, run how it was run last time it run correctly, etc. And i chose each of these options at least once and each time it brought me back to the same black screen. I'm not sure if it is a software or hardware issue or if it even has anything to do with me dropping my laptop yesterday. Does any one know what i should do? Should i check to see if it's hardware related before i run a system repair? Should i bring it in to a professional and have them look to see if it's a hardware problem or is there a way i could check for "lose connections"?

Computer Is Shutting Off During The Windows Load Screen
So i ended up upgrading to an amd x2 6000 and getting an hd4850 as well. Windows 7 was also installed by a friend on my computer. However, my computer is shutting off during the windows load screen at the same time, like right after the windows colors icon forms together and glows or whatever. I have an antec 650w truepower power supply that is maybe 3 years old at the most. Also, i have been monitoring the watts and they are all stable and all less than . 20 different than the norm or whatever each thing is supposed to be.could the ram i bought be bad and is shutting down the computer? Temperatures are all fine as well. I just find it weird that it turns off during the exact same time but will sometimes randomly let me get to windows if i keep trying. A fast response would be appreciated, especially if it is possibly bad ram since i think the last day to exchange it at frys is today for me.

Video Card Beep Error - Windows Fails To Load
Last night my comp was making a loud beeping noise and it turned out to be my video card. So i boot it up, get all the screens and it eventually hits the windows screen with the options of safe mode, last known configuration that worked, and run windows normally. The problem is no matter which one i pick (done them all several times) it always does the same thing. The window logo screen loads where the little blue bar travels across below the logo usually meaning windows is starting up, but everytime it has that screen for about 15 seconds then a quick flash of the blue screen of death and my computer resets and does the whole process again?

Computer Freezes On Boot - Long Time To Load Windows
I was having issues with a game of mine hard locking my pc. The only way to get out of it was to hold down the power button and force the pc to power down, then boot back up. Trying to trouble shoot the game, this happened several times. Then, it started freezing on the memory test. It's not really freezing, though - if i leave it sit for a very long time ( 5 to ten minutes ), it will eventually boot into windows. Any ideas?

Error: Lsass.exe Failed To Load - Windows Xp Start Up Problem
I got xp start up problem, when boot up the computer and after the xp splash screen i get an error reading "lsass.exe failed to load, could not find the file dnsapi.dll, reinstallation of this will fix problem"
What do i do? I tried a repair with the windows installation cd but it says i don't have any hard drives installed! Also tried to copy this dnsapi.dll file from a dos boot but it couldn't find the c:! If my computer says it can't find hd, but it's getting past the xp splash screen, i'm so perplexed.

Computer Restarts Randomly In Windows 7
This problem i'm having has utterly stumped me. I'm pretty pc tech savvy and i've gone through all the normal means to solve/resolve this problem but here it goes. I have a newly built (and recently rebuilt) system using 'some' of the same hardware (hd, mb and processor are the same, everything else is new) and i'm getting a restart issue that happens somewhat at random. I'll explain somewhat later but for the most part, its completely random and i do not get a blue screen of death. Anyways, the new computer specs are as followed. Specs:
-Windows 7 home premium 64-bit (fresh install)
-Intel core i5 processor 750 @ 2. 67ghz
-Msi p55-gd65 motherboard (stock/standard installation, no overclocking)
-2 ddr3-1333 2gig sticks of memory (4 total)
-Geforce gts 250 1gb ddr3 (upgraded from a geforce 8600 gtx 512meg)
-250gig maxtor hd
*Description of problem/history*
This restarting issue occurred soon after i upgraded my mainboard/processor/memory combination. (I don't get the bsod) the problem typically happens when i'm downloading something, browsing the net or using the avg virus scan feature.rarely happens when the pc is just idle. Note: using large programs such as photoshop, playing games like wow or oblivion typically do not trigger this restart problem. I can play for hours perfectly fine. But i can do a cold boot into windows, open firefox and look at one page on cnn and the pc restarts after a total of 4 minutes being on. Now, when the restart occurs, it just blanks the monitor for a few seconds and i see the boot screen again followed by a "do you want to boot into safe mode" screen afterwards. On occasion, the system will freeze instead of restart causing the speakers to blare static/white noise (this happens when i'm watching a dvd, avi file, youtube video, etc. ) And a forced reset is required. I have taken the following measures thus far. -Occasionally the date/time needs to be reset/fixed from a sudden restart. I've replaced the cmos battery with a new one with no resolve. -I've had the 2 ddr3 memory sticks tested 3 times using the vista memory tester at system start-up. Tests came back with no issues/errors. -Upgraded the older 550watt power supply to 650watt ps. No change
-Brand new mid-tower case with 2-220mm fans and 2-180mm fans with great circulation.core temp is steady around 110*f no change (pretty sure it was never an overheating issue)
-Called up msi tech support (still under warranty) and we performed a main-board bios update (no resolve) and a few system tests and the tech deemed the mb to be working as intended. I'm looking for any suggestions/tips or retracing any steps that i have missed in my quest to resolve this annoying issue. One tech site suggested that it could be the hard drive causing these problems but several system scans report that there are no bad sectors. I've attempted to us maxblast 5 to make a hd disk image and transfer to new 500gb hd. Image was created just fine but restart/freeze occurs every time on "restore" process. 6 months ago additional details *update*
Forgot to mention, i've disabled the "automatic restart" under system failure option. I'm running win7 with current patches/updates. I've ran a registry cleaner and cleaned things up a bit. All no resolve. Addition bit of information is that when my does does suddenly restart, the boot up takes longer than normal as the boot text has to slowly detect each of my 4 sata hard drives. After the final one, i see for a mere split second a system recovered error message that i have yet to time perfectly with the /pause/break/ key on my keyboard. 6 months ago: aniceto* video card is brand new *2 weeks old* yet problem has been present on both old/new card for approximately 4 months. I did perform a similar suggest memory cleaning test back in early jan but as stated above, problem occurred on a brand new mb, memory, processor purchase prior to it accumulating dust. Thanks for suggestions, got any more?

Computer Is Randomly Opening / Closing Windows
I seem to have a very annoying, blood boiling problem, my computer is randomly opening/closing windows, mainly windows media player and help (any help, depending on what program i'm using, as if i were to press f1). It also randomly types "-64" or that in different combinations such as "6444444444" like a repetitive keystroke. When these things occur my system sounds a high pitched bleep, as it would if alot of keys were pressed at once. It has even deleted text i have written, and i find myself having to copy text, so if i loose it i can paste it back in. It looked to me like a virus, but i've ran norton full sys' scan and no viruses were found, i doubted it would be a virus anyway because i reformatted my hard drive very recently and the comp has only been online for about 4 days after the reformat (only sites visted were google, gmail, ebay, microsoft). The reason i think it has something to do with my keyboard is because of the evidence i've picked up such as repetive keystrokes, key bleeps etc. Does anyone have any suggestions as to what the problem could be?

How To Connect Pc To Tv To Act As Monitor ?
How do i connect a pc to a tv, to act as a monitor ?
Answer:-
Depends on the tv and the computer. If both are newer and both have hdmi ports that's the easiest way. Otherwise probably s-video cable, again if they both have the hook up or if your tv is one of the rare kind with a vga connector. Otherwise, you may need to get some kind of adapter to make it work. Vga to hdmi or vga to s-video or vga to rca or rf. If it's an older non-hd tv but if that's the case don't bother really because a tv that old will make a horrible computer monitor because of the low resolution.

How Do Ssd Act When Errors Occur ?
So, i see lots of paranoia about "over using" ssd blocks - disabling search, pagefile, indexing, blah blah blah. I think it all a little silly, when no one does anything to preserve much more failure-prone mechanical disks. Furthermore, by the time you've reached the rated number of cycles the drive will be far cheaper to replace, far faster options will be out there, you'll likely think the current drive is far too small and much higher capacity options will be out there. Anyways:
A big difference i see with ssd is that it seems that more than 50% of the time mechanical disks fail in a "one day it went whack-whack-whack and now it doesn't work at all". Clearly this wouldn't have to be the case for ssds with no moving parts. If cells in an ssd started failing parity checks the data could simply be relocated to spare space (like mechanical disks do with individual blocks) and the random access performance would suffer no ill. Other than massive physical damage or total controller failure, i don't see any likely cases for ssds to suddenly become completely inoperative in the same what the mechanical drives just go "whack" or put scratches on their media. Does anyone have good info on how current ssds are programmed to handle errors? I see some decent likelihood that they could be far superior to mechanical disks and have far longer lifetimes despite the fud.

Anyways:

Windows Xp Cpu Overheating Error
My friend of mine has a 7 year old windows xp computer that has been locked in the closet for god knows how long and has collected lots and lots of dust as you can imagine. She started the computer only to find it said "cpu overheating error" or something along the lines. I recommended she checked the temperature of the cpu and she fount out it was at 92 degree's celsius. I told her to clean all the dust out from the tower, and once completed, she checked the temperature again, it went down to 75, and then hovered around 74 but still the computer wouldn't start - which leads me on to my next problem. The computer would just freeze on the "packard bell" screen, it wouldn't do anything at all. Wouldn't load, nothing. Before it got to the screen, you could get to the bios settings (otherwise you wouldn't be able to find out temperature etc) but you couldn't run the computer in safe mode because the button for safe mode didn't work. So even though the computers temperature is 75 celsius, it wont get past the frozen packard bell screen. Any ideas on what she can do to fix her computer? She wants to use it without really paying over £20 for fixing cost, otherwise she'll just buy a new one.

Hard Lock And Reboot
At stock gpu clocks machine runs fine. When oced machine locks up in cpu test of both 06 and vantage. Attempted solutions:
Reinstall os, drivers, software, etc. Tried different drivers
Running gpu fans at 100% with 130cfm fan on top of cards
Reseated everything on mobo
Upped vgpu in bios
What do i need to do to solve this?

Computer Lock Ups
I have a pc that is is locking up for an unexplained reason. The pc was locking up originally before replacing the motherboard, and still is, even with a freshly installed xp. It now has a new antec power supply and i have checked the hard drive for errors. I have even tried different sticks of ram. I tried uninstalling the g4 440mx agp card and used the onboard video with no change. I am stumped. The motherboard is a epox p4800m3i with 1gb ram, p4 2. 4ghz cpu. I have checked the bios for improper settings, but don't see anything wrong. Any ideas? Could the cpu be buggy?

Certain Programs Lock My Computer
Some programs lock my computer up. I am not sure if it's hardware, or software based. My computer literally locking up, forcing a hard reboot. Programs like skype, crysis warhead (regular crysis runs fine), fallout 3 with an update higher than 1. 4. I also have problems with gta iv, the new red faction, and various other programs, not all being games. If anyone can help me, that would be fantastic. Specs:
Radeon 3850 (512mb)
Wd blue 640 gig (sata)
6 gigs of generic ram ddr2 800
Pentium e5200 wolfdale 45nm 1. 124v
Ocz 700watt stealth extreme
Motherboard is a "gateway fmcp7am nforce 730i rev. B1"
Bios: "american megatrends inc - r01-a0 - 10/31/2008"
Vista home premium x64

Hard Drive Makes Computer Lock Up
I have an extra hard drive with some backups on it that i need to get to, no os anymore. Usually i leave it in a box unplugged. When i tried hooking it up last night it made itself the master drive, and so i couldn't start xp. It dosn't have a regular thing for changing from master to slave, so i don't know what to do?
I used to be able to start up xp with my main drive, then plug that one in and xp would automatically detect it, but now i scaned it with partition software and it has some errors in the fat, so i can't do anythng with it there. So when i'm in xp and i plug it in, the system just locks up untill i unplug it. It tries to detect the settings but can't i guess. So, how can i access this harddrive?
I was trying to run checkdisk on it but i think i need it on a disk i'm not too knowledgeable with dos.

Pc Lock Up At Post Right After It Detects Sata Drive
For the past few months, sometimes after i turn on my computer, it would lock up at post right after it detects my sata drive and i am forced to shut it off then once i turn it back on everything is smooth sailing after that. However, more recently after the lock up, the system post would detect no drive until i swap the sata port that my hard drive is using and it would boot into windows again. I don't really have the funds to replace or even have anybody who can lend me a sata drive to see if it is my hard drive or if it is my motherboard; or even possibly my sata cable. My question is, are there any programs i can run to see if my hard drive is failing?
Other issues are: if i am alt tabbing out of a program and ventrillo is running, the last person talking would become a broken record until the program is fully tabbed out (which never happened before). Games and programs seem to run fine on a good day. Random moments of my computer completely locking up and i would have to shut it off and swap the sata cable into a different slot on my motherboard again. Most of the time i can boot into windows just fine, i would have to do this maybe once every 2 weeks or so oddly enough. I have reformatted numerous times and still having the same problems.

Aluminum Keyboard - Caps Lock Issues
Got the new keyboard. It rocks, except for one thing: the caps lock isn't as sensitive as the other keys. Turning off caps is fine, but turning it on, i have to press the key a little harder than the others for it to activate. Is anyone else experiencing this? I'm wondering if for some reason it's supposed to be like that?

Ati Radeon 9800 Xt Lock Ups
I just installed a new motherboard and since then i cannot get my 9800xt to run on the pc. It will freeze within 5 mins for sure. I have run the pc on its onboard video and another video card and it runs perfect for weeks. I have installed the 9800xt into another pc and no problems, it has now ran it for over 3 days, so i know the card is fine. So i am almost positive its some type of setting. I have fdisked and reloaded windows and not installed a single program. It ran the windows install fine with the 9800xt but once it got to windows it locked up within 5 mins. I am not able to even have enough time to install the catalyst driver. If i run it with the onboard video or this other cheap card i can run it for weeks. The pc i tested the 9800xt on is a really slow old pc, with no catalyst drivers, just the windows drivers it installs automatically. I have disabled the onboard video when i have tried to run the 9800xt and that didn't change a thing. The only possible thing is i think that old pc is 4x agp and the one i am trying to get it to run on is 4x/8x and in the bios there is no place to change the agp speed. My setup is. Mainboard: aopen ax4sg
Processor: intel pentium 4 3. 06gb
Memory: 2gb 266ddr
Hard drive: western digital 80gb

Mouse Light And Nums Lock Stay Lit When Pc Is Off
I have recently fitted a k7s741gxmg-6l mobo as a replacement for my asus a7n266-vm. I am using all the original peripheral components e.g keyboard & mouse etc. Which all worked fine with my old setup. I have the usual niggles that i am working thro', but the wife thinks this one is the most important one and has to be sorted first under pain of death and the withdrawal of certain privilages, so here goes. When i switch off the pc, the light on the optical mouse stays lit as does the num lock light on the keyboard. Both plug into the ps/2 ports. The keyboard & mouse were bundled with the pc when i bought it 4 years ago and are from the logitech intili range. I have installed drivers for both but no change. I can’t find anything in bios which might change this. Any ideas anyone?
