Keyboard Does Not Respond After Computer Crashed

My computer crashed yesterday, now when i turn it on, i cannot get the keyboard to respond. First off, the computer is not fully booting, i just get stuck on the factory, hp-screen. Therefore, i cannot enter the bios or the actual boot screen to see what is happening. I tried to boot from my windows cd, but cannot 'press any key' to do so. Anyways, i tried clearing the cmos on the motherboard, and also removing the battery; neither worked. I also tired numerous other keyboards, usb key boards, swapping ports, nothing.

Keyboard Does Not Respond When Computer Starts Booting

When i boot the lights on the keyboard flash, but once the computer starts booting, the keyboard does not respond. It often just gets cut of in the windows as well. When this happens i just unplug the keyboard and plug it back in. It usually works within few attempts but at times it does not work at all. So i have to restart few times and play around until it does. I tried a different keyboard and everything, but nothing helps.

Pc Freeze And Doesn't Respond To Keyboard Or Mouse

I have a problem with a p4 1. 7ghz pc. When win xp starts after about 5 mins the computer freezes. It does not respond to either keyboard or mouse. I suspected that it had some kind of virus and it was about time this system needed a format and a re installation of xp. Booting from the xp cd and starting setup the same thing happens after 5mins. It freezes again. Im suspecting its an hdd problem. There are no beeps during the post either. Any suggestions?

Pc Screen Freeze And Mouse / Keyboard Don't Respond At All

My computer freezes after about an hour or sometimes earlier after bootup, im not sure but i think it is my ram. Ive got 2 rams, 256 n 512mb ddr ram, when i boot up it says approx 490mb ram, this is cz 32mb is for onboard graphics, so i think my 256mb ram is at faulty, however when i use only the 512mb ram it still freezes after an hour or so, my pc screen jst freezes, the mouse / keyboard dont respond at all.

Ps/2 Logitech Elite Keyboard Le - Key Respond Time Problem

I recently purchased a (rather cheap) ps/2 to usb converter, for use with my new laptop, which has no ps/2 ports. This adapter has two female connectors, for a ps/2 keyboard and mouse - i only use the keyboard portion, my preferred mouse is usb. It works great - except for this unusual (yet rather problematic) issue, when alternating keys being held down. If i hold one key down, then quickly hold another down and release the first - it will register that second key press for a split second, then pause for an undesirably long amount of time, and then register the keypress as i hold it down. Not particularly easy to explain. It's not so much an issue in everyday typing, but while gaming, it is quite irritating. For example, if i hold down the s key, and quickly press the d key, release the s key while continuing to hold d there is an noticeable delay for d to respond as being 'held down. '

I'm not quite sure what this could attribute to - i assume it's the adapter itself being rather cheap and poorly produced, but i hope there is something that can be done. The keyboard itself is fine when used on any other computer, there is no such delay - nor is there one on the laptop's standard keyboard. I'm running windows vista home premum, and the keyboard is a ps/2 logitech elite keyboard le (wired).

Mouse And Keyboard Won't Give Signals / Respond

About a month ago my computer started acting very strangly, not giving me an signal from my mouse or keyboard and after a couple of restarts wouldn't give me any display or post when i started it up. I recently decided it was a motherboard/psu issue, and bought brand new mobo and psu. Well now it starts up just fine, but still won't give me keyboard or mouse signals, either from either ps/2 or usb slots, and i know both the mouse and keyboard are working otherwise. The optical mouse turns on, and the keyboard lights flash briefly right on startup, but i can't even enter my bios.considering it's a brand new mobo i assume i have a corrupted windows or something along those lines, though it seems strange that i wouldn't be able to enter setup before startup, so i'm not even sure how i could do a reformat without a working keyboard, any ideas would be very welcome.

Computer Won't Respond

I can log in without a problem, after i type in my password i get to the desktop but then my computer does not respond to any of the keys i press. I know the keyboard is working because when i hit the scroll lock, etc. Keys the green lights on the keyboard light up. I think i may have a virus. But the thing is i cannot do anything! I can't even hit control alt delete. How do i fix this? Also, the mouse won't work either. When i double click on an icon nothing happens.

Packard Bell Pc Crashed

Its an old(ish) pentium ii 366mhz packard bell machine running windows 95. Nothing has been done to it appart from disconnecting wires, moving about twelve metres and reconnecting wires. It was working fine last night but when i reconnected the wires and plugged it into the wall socket it switched on straight away. (Normally i have to press the on button on the front). The fans start, it sounds like the hard drive is starting up but there is no beep and the monitor stays in standby. I have to hold the button in on the front to shut it down. When i press the button again it just does the same. Fans and hard drive but no beep. I dont know if its doing post or not. I've openned the case and everything appears to be connected ok (allcables and memory seated properly). I've tried plugging it into the same socket it used to be plugged into and it makes no difference.

Hard Drive Crashed

I put my computer on sleep over night, and it looked like it was working fine when i got back on, except i couldn't open anything (any files or new tabs or programs etc. ), And when i clicked on start and went to all programs, it was blank (just couldn't load i think). After a couple minutes of this, a blue screen with a bunch of text flashed for like 2 seconds (no time to read it), and my computer restarted. Now it just gets stuck at some yukon pxe (pre boot execution), and its unable to find the boot drive. I go into my bios settings and try to get it to boot using my hard drive (the yukon was some network thing) by putting the hard drive as 1st on boot order and disabling yukon. This didn't work. The only difference is that instead of going to the yukon screen, it just says there's no boot device, and to insert one and restart etc. I also checked the hardware to make sure everything was plugged in, which it was. The only thing i can think of is that my hard drive crashed. How can i tell for sure? What is my next step to fixing this problem, whether a hard drive crash or not? Don't want to lose my data.

5 Hard Drives Crashed Within 3 Months

This is getting extremely aggravating. Over the past 2 years or so, i have gone through 5 hard disks greater than 100gb. I have tried western digital and maxtor. They all die within 3 months. I even tried switching to sata drives. No luck. I have used three different motherboards and drives are still crashing. This is ridiculous. I have had no problems with my main 80gb western digital, or my 60gb maxtor (have had them for about 3 years). It is as if adding a third drive is a curse (all 5 have been the third drive). I have no clue what is going on. As always happens, the drive works fine, then all of a sudden it makes a rhythmic grinding sound that will not stop. The hard drive led remains lit the entire time. Every once in a while, it will decide to work again, but within a few days it makes the same sound again and dies. What on earth can be causing these problems?

Recovering Two 250 Gb Files From Crashed Drive

I have a crappy external my book pro 500gb, that i have now extracted out of the case, after it crashing (see threads below). There are two 250gb encrypted truecrypt files on the drive, nothing else. I need these files recovered, i mean really need to. All my photos from the last two years are on there, and no backup (im an idiot, i know). How would be the best way to get these two files back? I have a new 500gb drive to place them onto. Make an image of the old drive? Try to recover the files directly? Any good (low level?) Programs?

I also have the problem that the crashed drive freezes any operating system trying to boot up with it in. Tips, ideas?

File system is ntfs. (Check out all the other problems i had with this disk here: one, two, three)

Very grateful for any answers!

Fileserver Stops Respond

I've had a fileserver (the one in my sign) for a few years now. Every now and then it just stops. No blue screens, just hangs. Sometimes it happens when i transfer files and therefor i thought it could be the networkcard drivers but seeing as they are from dfi it shouldnt be any problems. Also have the same motherboard on another computer with the same drivers and there it works without a flaw. Anyway, sometimes it can be up for two or three months, sometimes it dies after fifteen minutes. I tried to read the event viewer but it only says something like "the last shutdown was unexpected". I've ran prime95 and memtest86 for 24 hours, no problems. I've looked at the temps and they look alright, all drivers are properly installed. Now im out of ideas. I have ordered a few more disks and id like to solve these instability issues before i add them to the computer.

Hp Deskjet F335 Scanner Won't Respond

My scanner (all-in-one f335) is working properly with all functions because i was using the crappy built-in xp scanning program until i found the actual hp disk for the scanner. I hadn't used it in a few months because it was lost, so i reinstalled so that i could scan through hp solution center again, but whenever i try the "scan picture" or "scan document" functions, the scanner won't respond. There's not even a blank field where the scan should be; everything is just bunched up at the top. I try "new scan" and even "accept, " but neither does anything.

Keyboard And Mouse Freeze - Must Unplug Computer

Nearly everyday my iq504 will suddenly just freeze up. The mouse and keyboard are completely unresponsive as well as the touchscreen. Ctrl-alt-del does nothing. The only choice i have is to unplug the computer (basically crashing eveything i may have had open at the time) and then restarting it up. Sometimes this happens while i am in the middle of using internet explorer, sometimes using microsoft money, sometimes using ms-outlook, etc. I have also had instances where everything was fine, i get up to get a soda, come back and i am frozen up. I wasn't even touching the computer and only left it for a couple minutes and this happens. Is this happening to me uniquely or do others here experience this as well. If so, has anyone found a solution? I've already downloaded the latest drivers from the hp website. I don't know what else to try at this point.

Computer Can't Detect Keyboard When Mouse Is Connected

I always get a "cannot detect keyboard, press f1 to continue" error msg during startups unless i disconnect my usb mouse; but i'm free to connect my mouse again when i boot into windows. This first started when i replaced the old pci graphics card i had with an agp graphics card while the old card is still in the system; so i thought it might have been an irq conflict issue (i had alot of ide devices connected to the computer). I have since tried removing either the pci card or the agp card and other extra ide devices, but the problem still persists. I've also tried switching the cmos battery from another computer, didn't help either.

Razer Lycosa Keyboard Caused Computer Not To Boot

I found out what was causing my computer to not boot. It was the razer lycosa keyboard of all things. When i plugged in the two usb cables for the keyboard and tried to boot the computer all the lights inside the case began to flash (the psu fan would not even kick on). When i removed the keyboard everything started up just fine and all the lights stopped blinking. I tested the keyboard out on another computer just to make sure it was not the motherboard and what do you know it caused all the lights inside the second test computer to blink the same way. I think its time to switch back to a microsoft keyboard. Overall, i think the packaging for the lycosa is subpar. The top of the keyboard is only protected by very thin cardboard and the top cover on the box looks like it is about to bust open just sitting on the store shelf. This type of packaging allows a substantial amount of shock to be transfered to the keyboard. Defective packaging is the same thing as defective hardware. I initially liked the look and feel of the lycosa but i am not going to run the risk of getting another damaged or defective keyboard my time means too much to me.

Dell Mini Keyboard Smaller Than Normal-keyboard ?

How much smaller is a dell mini keyboard than a normal keyboard? I recently purchased a dell mini laptop and was wondering-how much smaller is the dell mini keyboard than a normal keyboard? I don't want my fingers to feel cramped. I was also wondering how much smaller the screen is. Are items on the screen actually smaller or do you just have to scroll around the window?

Dell mini user's opinions are very welcome.

Intermittent Keyboard Problem - Keyboard Is Non Responsive

I bought a compaq presario sr1630nx a few months ago and i've noticed an intermittent keyboard problem for the last month or so. I don't know if it's a hardware or a software problem or how i would tell. The keyboard has a ps/2 connector. I have not changed any of the default hardware. Symptoms: i sometimes try to type and no keys on the keyboard do anything. The mouse works fine. I am not aware of performing any particular action before i notice that the keyboard is non-responsive.

Rebooting makes the keyboard work again. This problem occurs with a frequency of 2 times a day to once a week. I've installed more recent keyboard/mouse drivers for this machine (posted on the compaq site), but that's hasn't helped. Does anyone have an idea what the problem might be? Is there a utility that i could run when the problem happens that would give me more information?
