Windows Boot Error - Unmountable Boot Volume

I have had my new system up and running for about 5 weeks now with now problems. So today i was on my computer and all of a sudden it freezes. Nothing is responding so i just reset the power. Once i reset the power i get to the logon screen, i logon and then i get a blue screen saying windows has detected a problem and has been shut down to prevent any damage to your computer the under it, it says, unmountable_boot_volume. So i thought my grphix card might have overheated so i try rebooting again about several times with no luck. I try booting with safe mode but still freezes. After about 2 hrs i come back and nothing has changed. Any 1 know any solutions?

Message: Reboot & Select Boot Device Or Insert Boot Media

I built my first computer about 2 weeks ago but have noticed a problem. When i turn the computer on it shows the motherboard screen and stays there for approx 15-20 seconds. Then it goes into a black screen stating that i need to "reboot & select proper boot device or insert boot media in selected boot device and press a key. "

I am a bit confused on what this means. If i restart the computer while it shows the message it starts up with no problems. What can i do to have this message no appear as i power on my computer? Also during the shift from one screen to another, the screen blinks in green and other colors. What can this be? Can it be that i have my lcd tv connected to my computer with a dvi to hdmi cable?Besides these issues, everything seems to run great, no overheating at all.

Can't Boot With Cd Rom / Fix Boot.ini

I have a toshiba satelite laptop with windows xp on it. While copying files over the network onto it i got the blue screen with white letters. I had to do a "hard shut down" to turn it off. When i tried to turn it back on it would start to boot and as it begins to load i get the option to boot in normal or safe mode (both give the same result). After the windows xp logo shows i get another screen that says invalid boot.ini, i searched the error on google and i found this:

Ok great! I have the cd i put it in the drive, but it won't boot on the cd, also i tried pressing f everything, delete, esc yadah to get into the bios to make sure its set to boot up on a cd before the hard drive. But nothing seems to work. Does anyone know something else i might be able to try to get the boot.ini reset / uncorrupt or get it to boot up by the cd?

Invalid Boot Diskette Error

I have an old dell 4100 computer with windows xp installed. When my dad reset the power in my house yesterday, my computer brought me to the blue dell start up screen ad then to a black screen with the infamous error message: (paraphrased) "invalid boot diskette. Insert valid boot diskette in a:". I've seen several topics about this online but none of them were useful because i couldn't understand all the computer lingo. I also don't have the disk used to install windows, or any disks for the computer, for that matter. I checked bios, which recognized my hard drive (so i know it's not fried) but it still didn't work when i set it to boot from the hard drive first. Does anyone have a simple solution to this problem i can use on limited resources and knowledge of computers? I have my computer loaded with hundreds of dollars worth of music i would hate to lose, so i can't do anything that would wipe the memory (unless there's a way to back up my hard drive without buying anything or confusing me). This happened once before, but resolved itself after one night. This time the problem seems much more persistent.

Hdd Not Found On Boot = Disk Error

I recently received a western digital 160gb, as a replacement for a broken western digital 120gb, from western digital. However on boot the hdd is sometimes not found and instead a little clicking noise can be heard, which in turn leads to the primary slave not being found and then a disk error. Usually if i simply turn it off then back on again, then it works fine however sometimes i have to do this multiple times, sometimes i have to turn it off and leave it for a few minutes and sometimes i have to open the case and push all the cables into the back of the hdd and dvdrw a bit more. To me the cables don't feel as though they've come loose and so really this is an exercise of ritual rather than anything constructive, yet it seems to do the job. Once the hdd is recognised the pc works fine and dandy but i'd like to avoid this failure as it is happening more and more. Is this an issue with the cpu, data cables, power cables, hdd, dvdrw, ram?
My system is an asus pundit w/ intel 2. 8ghz, dual 512mb ram, western digital 160gb, sony 8x dvdrw.

Error - Reboot And Select Proper Boot Device

I had a few problems getting pc to run (namely, i somehow lost the jumper for the bios pins on the motherboard. Because i had no jumper, it kept running in recovery mode. Took me a while to figure out, too). I don't know if it matters, but i popped out the battery as some instructions stated. I waited ten minutes and then placed the battery back, positive side up, which is what i remembered it being before i removed it. I only did that because i was at a loss at what else could be done to get the system running. Now, the system boots up fine and recognizes all devices, except. The problem is that after the post, an error pops up. "Reboot and select proper boot device or insert boot media in selected boot device"

I had made a floppy that had the upgraded bios on it and had stuck it in the system before powering it up. I know the floppy works, because it worked on another system. I tried installing windows xp without the upgraded bios to see if it would work, and it did. I suppose that means that the cd drive works, but i have no way to tell if the floppy drive does. From what i can see in the [f2] bios setup utility, it is recognized. I don't see why the floppy drive wouldn't work. After all, it's just a floppy drive, with power & connection to mobo. The boot order is floppy, hard drive, cd-rom. And no matter what i do, the computer keeps throwing the error at me.

Pc Starts To Boot And Freezes Before Windows

I turned on the pc and the "intel desktop boards" screen appears. And that is it! Usually that would flash and the next screen would be detecting my ide card and recognizing the hard drives but it doesnt even get there. The screen that it is stuck on shows the processor speed, how much ram, and that the keyboard, mouse, and the usb legacy is enabled. The bottom says hit f2 to run set up and f12 if you want to boot from network. I can not get into the bios. The most i made it do was get it to say "entering setup" by hitting f2 as soon as the page came up. But it never goes anywhere after that. Frozen! Any advise would be greatly appreciated. I am not a computer wiz, just a long time tinkerer. I have built 2 or 3 in my lifetime and have just basic knowledge.

Computer Wont Boot Into Windows Xp

I would be windows browsing the web with firefox and the window would freeze. I could move the window around and minimize the window but couldn't maximize the window or ctr+alt+delete. So i would restart it and could play tf2 for about 2 hours. Quit the game and load up firefox and after 5 mins it would freeze again. After a while tf2 would also freeze. Then it wouldn't even load up windows. It would get to the windows load screen with load bar and just sit there. Sometimes it get past that and load the cursor but nothing else. So, i format my drive and installed a fresh copy of xp and after an hour of using it it would freeze. I went out and bought a new hdd and installed everything. It worked. Everything seemed and worked fine for a month till last week when the problem happened again. I hope its not the hdd. So this time i loaded up recovery console and restored the registry from 3 days back from when the problem started happening. Didn't work. Chkdsk comes back clean. So, i didn't format and just installed xp again, got into windows and started installing drivers and it froze once more. Now it just sits at the windows loading screen again. Loading. What is the cause of this? Solutions?

Dual Boot Windows 7 And Fedora

I have a dell studio 15 with windows 7 ultimate 64-bit with 500gb 7200rpm hdd. I am trying to partition the hdd so i can dual boot with fedora 13 for school. I downloaded and burned gparted 0. 6. 2-8 to a cd so i can partition my hdd. I unallocated 75gb for fedora with windows disk manager. Basically, i need to make a primary partition for fedora in ext4. Then, i have to make an extended partition for the linux-swap and fat32 for file sharing between 7 and fedora. However, i cannot do this because i already have 3 partitions on my hdd: windows 7 os, windows 7 recovery, and dell utility. I get an error that there cannot be more tan 4 primary partitions on a drive. Do i need the dell utility partition? Also, i could make the 75gb into an extended partition, then partition it into the 3 needed partitions, but i don't know if i can boot to an extended partition.

Asus A8n-e Boot Problem (beep Error Code)

I've been running xp on a asus a8n-e motherboard for a good while without any problems. The other day i replaced my hiper type r 580w psu with a corsair hx 520w, and now the pc won't boot and beeps 1 long followed by 3 short. I've stripped it down to bare essentials (motherboard, vc, memory and cpu) but i get the same problem. The problem also persist when i reconnect the hiper psu. 1. Reseating everything. 2. Using any possible combination of memory stick(s) and slots. 3. Resetting the cmos. The rest of the pc is as per sig, with the exception for vista which will be installed when (if!?) I can sort this.

Scan Lines On Startup - Windows 7 Wont Boot

I have an nvidia 8800gts video card (not currently as its not working. ) And when i have the evga plugged in, i get video, but i get horrid vertical scanlines where it just looks like the screen is misplaced. When the windows seven logo loads up and it goes to the next screen, it remains black and eventually goes to bsod. I have tried to update the drivers for my 8800gts to no avail. Now. I am currently using my nvidia 8500 gt, but the evga port doesn't work. I get no signal. I have tried using another evga adapter but i still get the same result. As of now im using the regular vga port on my 8500 gt. Have all my adapters gone to crap? Or is there something more going on here. ?

Windows 7 Computer Wont Boot In Normal Mode

I was running 64bit vista for a while until i encountered some problems. I tried to fix these problems, but my copy of vista can't be validated by microsoft (it was fine when i installed it, authenticated and worked fine). My computer won't boot in normal mode, only in safe mode. I've decided to upgrade to windows 7, but i'm not sure if i should buy the upgrade or clean install disks. I figure if vista doesn't work properly (crashing whenever it tries to boot in normal mode), then an upgrade won't work. Also, if authentication fails, for whatever reason, then i would be in trouble. I'm not sure what the best solution is. I don't have a problem backing up files i don't want to lose. I just don't want to buy the wrong type of windows 7 installation disk. I've already decided on buying windows 7 home premium (64 bit version), but should i get upgrade package or the clean install disks?

Computer Freezes On Boot - Long Time To Load Windows

I was having issues with a game of mine hard locking my pc. The only way to get out of it was to hold down the power button and force the pc to power down, then boot back up. Trying to trouble shoot the game, this happened several times. Then, it started freezing on the memory test. It's not really freezing, though - if i leave it sit for a very long time ( 5 to ten minutes ), it will eventually boot into windows. Any ideas?

Volume Bitmap Error (mft)

Just yesterday i had a powercut where i live but the ups system took over and did a force shutdown. Unfortunately i think the force shutdown damaged my c: and i keep getting a reoccurring volume bitmap error. I have read up about this but i can't seem to fix it. My harddrive is a 160gb seagate. I did reformat c: and reinstalled windows today but to no avail, the error still occurs. I have run chkdsk at startup to repair the problem, but when windows loads and i run a chkdsk scan on c: in read-only mode the error keeps on coming up. It did say it had something to do with the mft, how would i fix this?

I have partition magic 8. 0 and that isnt reporting any problems with any of the partitions. This problem needs to be fixed because after sometime the pc randomly becomes unstable and i cannot access its resources or anything without hard resetting it.

Chkdsk Unknown Error Raid Volume

@ raid 6 volume on areca 1222 controller: i have some files and directories i can't delete, move because they are corrupted. I asked windows to perform a full check on this storage volume but it always ends with "unknown error" after having supposedly found and deleted some orphan files. What are my options? I have an ass load of large files on this array and no extra space to move and rebuild. Side note:- i know everyone can have different experiences but i will not forgive seagate for the 1. 5 tb hdds fiasco. Cursed be the day i decided to go with these drives for my array. I've had 4 of them spaz-out or die on me with different controllers, pcs.

Pc Unable To Boot Up

My problem started about a month ago, my pc wouldnt boot up. At the time i thought it was the processor because when it was removed it powered up, i had it checked and it now turns out that the processor is fine but it still wont boot up. I did a little more testing and noted down the post code display that is located on my motherboard and the problem seems to be with the 4pin 12v atx cable. I am using an abit at8 32x. The post display is as follows. Atx cable attached, cpu also installed:-

(8. 3. ) - Atx power supply ready
(9. 6. ) - De-assert cpu core voltage
(9. 9. ) - Complete power off sequence

I try to boot the pc but it switches itself off withing a second. Atx cable attached, no cpu installed:-

(8. 3. ) - Atx power supply ready
(9. 0. ) - Complete uguru initial

Process, award bios takeover booting job pc boots fine into post screen although i have no display. When the atx cable is removed it obviously boots until post then shuts down, this is indicated on the post code display. I tested the 4 pin atx cable with a psu tester and it says that it is outputting 12v, so do you guys think that the problem lies with the motherboard? If so any indications on what it might be?

I dont want to fork out 100 for another one and it turns out its not that. Also ill add that my pc was running fine for several months before this happened and i have made no changes since.

Pc Fail To Boot Up

My pc started failing to boot about a month ago. It would start the cpu and disk drives and even the fan on the video card but the monitor would not register a signal. After many hours of eliminating hardware from the equation i determined that it must be the power supply. When everything was unplugged except the video card and ram the current power supply still failed to post. I then switched it with another older psu (250w) and it booted up just fine. So i decided it must be time for a new psu. I got the new one (450w a-power) and it failed to boot again. Still the old 250 booted just fine when switched between the two. I even put my video card in another machine with the new psu and it wouldn't boot on that one either. So i figured there is either a compatibility issue between my video card (radeon 9600xt) and the psu or that the psu is just bad or not powerful enough. I have since gone through 3 more psu's and nothing will boot my computer except the old 250w. I find it hard to believe that 3 psu's could all be bad or incompatible. Is there something else i should be trying or could there be another specifications:

Mobo=k7vta3 8. 0
Cpu=amd 2000+
Vpu=saphire radeon 9600xt
Ram=512mb pc2700 ddr
Sound=soundblaster audigy 2 platinum
Hdd=wd 80gb 7200
Floppy drive
Dvd rom
Cdr/rw drive

Boot Up Issues

I just installed an xfx nf2s-alh mother board along with an amd athlon xp 2800+ processor. I also put a new stick of 512mb pc2700 ddr333 ram into it. When i go to boot the computer, everything turns on except for my monitor. My video card is a brand new xfx geforce fx 5200 128mb ddr, and i cannot figure out why this isn't working.could it be that my power supply is not powerful enought to power the new board and my video card? It's a very weak power supply; only putting out 250w.

Computer Take A While Before Boot Up Normally

I am using an epox motherboard right now. Recently, if i turn off my power supply for about 15 mins, and turn it on and restart the computer, it will give out the siren alert and no screen. Since my mobo has a led attached to show the process of initial preboot, i check the code, and it always stop when it doing memory checking. However, if i turn on the power supply, and leave it there for about 5 mins, then the computer will boot up fine. I check memory, cpu, hdd already, nothings wrong. I switched power supply too. Nothing 's wrong. I'm guessing it;s the mobo. Maybe it take a longer time to charge up before it has enough power to do the preboot.

Computer Boot

My brother has an dell inspiron 530, and it wont start up correctly. When i press the power button, the boot screen opens, a then, about 5-10 seconds later, a message will flash on the screen. "Ahci bios not installed". After that, the screen will turn black, with no mouse, and it will have a small horizontal line flashing in the top left corner. This will stay on the screen until i turn off the computer. I have already tried to set the hdd as the main boot device, but there was no luck there. Also, i reset the bios settings to default. No luck there, either. There were no recent hardware upgrades on this computer.

Computer Does Not Boot

I'm having a strange problem with my htpc that i just can't figure out. When i turn it on, all the fans are running and the power and hd lights are on. However i don't get a video signal and the hd light never turns off/blinks. I disconnected the hd and removed the video card, same result. The mainboard does not seem to advance past the "power up" stage. I removed the battery on the mainboard for a bit but that didn't help. I mean if the mainboard would have a problem, it should beep right?

I am running out of ideas. It's probably the mainboard, but how can i be sure?

Here's the hardware:

Asus p5b-e
Intel core 2 duo e4300
Corsair twin2x2048-5400c4
Samsung hd321kj, t166s, 7200rpm
Asus en8500gt silent/htd/256, pci-e
