Computer Wont Boot - Hard Disk Indicator Light Stays On

I have hibernation enabled on my computer. The other day i turned it on and it resumed normally. I used it for a while and then left it. When i went back and turned it back on it wouldn't boot. The hard disk use indicator light stays on. The monitor displays a no signal or cable disconnected screen. I listened to the hard drive and it does not seem to be doing anything. The dvd drive also does not eject. I have tried removing each component hd, dvd, and floppy individually to see if it is caused by one of them. This did not solve the problem. I have double check all of my connections and they are all in there firmly. Normally when i boot up i get a screen from the vid card that counts the ram. Then it goes to the asus screen where i can enter the bios setup. Then it goes to windows. Neither of the first two screens ever appear. I have checked my power supply. It is getting 120v in. At a 4 pin power dongle i get 12v dc out. I don't know what else to try.

Computer Boot Up Problem, After Power On It Stays 5 Seconds Then Freezes

Dell dimension 1100. O. S. Windows xp home edition. Problem:

When i power on the computer it stays for about 5 seconds, then there is a click and it freezes. Nothing shows on the screen – no logo etc.completely dead the green light on front of computer tower remains fixed on. I have tried following:

Disconnected memory card and reseated it, disconnected sound card and reseated (no more cards). Disconnected all cables to motherboard and devices and reseated them. Disconnect mouse, keyboard, monitor. But it never gets beyond the first five seconds of booting up. A few days before the problem came i saw the following warning message:

"Power surge on hub port. A usb device has exceeded power limits of its hub port". I have pursued this and downloaded a patch from dell to remedy this problem: but i cannot install the patch as i cannot get my computer going. Any ideas on how to solve this? Second could the problem be related to this ‘power surge on hub port’.

Ps2 Blue Light Led Stays Off

About a week ago, i was playing my ps2 and suddenly the controller led turned off. The controller stopped working but the game continued. I turned off and didn't restart my ps2 until about 3 hours later. As i turned it on i noticed that there wasn't any video in my screen. I looked at the ps2 and noticed that the blue led (eject button)wasn't on, only green. The cd tray wont open. Its weird because if u press the eject button the ps2 will still turn on along with the fan but the blue led stays off and cd wont spin.

Xp Does Not Boot From Hard Disk

I have bought a new hdd (ata), with jumper on master. I did installed xp professional sp2 (genuine licensed) once, this morning, everything was ok. After installing xp, i have booted from hdd without problems and even i did some small disaplay changes (resolution, colors, things like that), but i have installed nothing else). I've closed the os, closed the pc and went out for about 1 hour. When coming back the system refused to boot again from hdd. As i had nothing else installed on hdd except the xp, i decided to boot from cd, format again the partition and reinstall the xp. Surprise: the hdd is visible (bios sees it), is to be formated, xp files are copied on the c: partition as normal, no errors, but when first time the installing program needs to re-boot, it can not re-boot from hdd, and keeps booting from cd again and again. Any ideas?

Disk Boot Failure. Insert System Disk And Press Enter

Just built my first pc and configured the bios etc and get the following message:

Boot from atapi cd-rom
Disk boot failure. Insert system disk and press enter. I think this means that i have to insert a boot disk for the cd-rom drive into the floppy disk drive, to install the drivers for it. Can someone confirm this? Also my cd drive is a philips 52x32x52 cd-rw which came with no floppy disks for installation at all, so i am not sure how i can setup the cd drive without an operating system etc.

Disk Boot Failure, Insert System Disk And Press Enter

I'm just usng my computer as a normal computer user would use one's computer. Surfing the web, instant messaging programs and the like, then my main harddrive makes a low click sound, then a slightly higher click sound after about half a second, then windows stops responding, then less than a second after my system achieves full lockup. So i'm like, ok, that's weird, and i reboot. I boot into bios and make sure it's not set to turn off the harddrives for any reason, and when i see that it isn't and there are no other wonky settings, i boot windows (xp pro sp2 .net) into safemode and just to make sure, start a virus scan, while that's working i look and make sure drive indexing is turned off (it isnf't on the main drive, so i turn it off) and that power save things are set to always on, and that's all ok, so while i'm waiting for the virus scan to finish, it does the click thing again, locks up, so i'm like *** and i reboot again, this time it gets to the ascii loading bar before the animated startup screen before the login prompt, and it does the click thing and stops, so i reboot again, and this time it gets to "verifying dmi pool data. " After detecting the drives and whatnot, does the click thing and stops right there, then after a minute or so i see "disk boot failure, insert system disk and press enter". So i sit there getting madder by the second and press enter, then it gives me a blank screen and that message again, and that's where it sits right now as i type this (but once i post i'll turn it off)

So i was running a virus scan, avg free edition, and it scanned the registry and the mbr for viruses and didn't find any, so i dunno, this either is a virus that i don't have a definition for, or some random progressive hardware failure, or my computer decided to crap out on me randomly.

Insert System Disk And Press Enter, Disk Boot Failure

Looking for suggestions for what to do next. I've built my first from scratch computer using:

New
Gigabyte ga-8i915p duo-a motherboard
P4 630 3ghz 800mhz fsb 2mb l2 cache processor
Maxtor 200gb eide ultra ata/133 hard drive
2x crucial 1gb ddrii 533 memory sticks

From my old system
Cd/rw
Dvd rom

It seems to post ok, but i then get the message

"Disk boot failure, insert system disk and press enter"

I've tried the new copy of windows xp bought for this build, and also the disks that came with the board and the hard drive. Each time the same message comes up. I've searched through all the documentation that came with everything, the net, and some books, nothing i try works. Can anybody help please?

Computer Problems - Double Boot Up, Double Post, Disk Error

The problems i am experiencing are having a boot disk error, a double boot up (double post) almost as if its not successful trying to boot up. Also. My bios seems to be changing when i boot up, under boot sequence it wont even show the hard drive is there at times, and changes other boot options. Does anyone possibly know what this problem could be? I have tried replacing the cmos battery, but this does not solve anything.

Computer Stays On For 1 Minute Before It Shut Off

Earlier i moved my computer from one room to another, plugged everything in and turned it on only to find it turned off straight away. Kept trying it and the computer was only staying on for maybe 1 minute maximum before it shut off. First of all i thought that when i moved my pc maybe i knocked the circuit in the psu and it broke, so the psu was failing. I opened it up and checked all the connections, then tried again. Same problem. So after browsing the net for a while i read that a lot of the symptoms associated with ram failure are also present in psu failure. So to test whether it was ram failure i removed one stick of ram, tried it again and got the same problem. I tried the other stick of ram and it booted up and managed to stay up for around 5 minutes before i turned it off, i booted it up again and it stayed up for 5 minutes before i turned it off. At this point i was almost positive it was ram failure, the first stick of ram was failling near on everytime and the second stick was leaving the pc on for as long as i liked, although i never tested it for more than 7-8 minutes. Anyways, then the ram that i thought was working. Stopped working. It started to suffer the same fate as the other stick of ram and was turning off after a few seconds/a minute or two. Because of the inconsistency i had no idea whether i am dealing with a psu problem or a ram problem. I tried running memtest on the stick of ram that initially worked, got halfway through test 4 and the pc shut off. But there were no errors shown up to test 4. It also seemed that in the early stages the longer i left the computer turned off, the longer it'd turn on the next go, which made me think it may be overheating. However all fans work, the psu fan works etc. Right now i'm thinking psu problem, because of the memtest not showing any errors. Oh, i have dual channel ram, and when i run the pc with nothing in channel 1 and a stick in channel 2 the pc keeps restarting, which i presume it should. A few things that crossed my mind:

Reset the bios
Try with new ram altogether
Take it to a shop and try a different psu

What do you think? Oh and this might help:

Current status of each piece of hardware:

First stick of ram: boots, but will power off after a few seconds or a minute. Time varies. Second stick of ram: boots, lasts longer than first stick, but still inevitably powers off. Psu: god knows, could be working (it sends power to everything) but could be failing (random power offs)

Hard Drive Causes Computer Not To Boot

I bought a new pc and was swapping out hard drives when i put in an sata hard drive i use for backup and my new computer wouldnt boot. After a long time of trial and error i figured it was that particular drive and removed it. I sort of put it out of my mind for a few months but now i want to get my data off there. I have my older pc which it was originally in so i figured i could do some testing. The problem seems to be a short in the hard drive. The hard drive is a seagate baracude (sata). I need to use one of those sata power adapters to be able to hook up to my current power supply. Both computers i tested on boot up fine but as soon as i plug in the power cord to the hard drive and hit the power on butt the cpu fan spins like half a turn then stops. After this if i remove the power from the hard drive and hit the power button the computer still won't boot. I must then unplugg the pc from the wall and then the pc will boot. Is there any chance i accidently screwed somethign up during the move or maybe its the power adapter? I used the same adapter before so i'm hoping during the move maybe the adapter got screwed up. Anyone ever hear of this? Any ideas?

Computer Wont Boot With Both Hard Drives

I was using my computer and everything was great (been using win7 rc for a few months now and it's been superb). Then had the hardest crash i've ever seen. Just pure lock up. Cursor working (moving) but couldn't click on anything, no blue screen, just hanging there. Turned off the computer manually and tried to reboot. Hung on the win 7 logo for more than an hour. Didn't budge. Just hung, tried to boot into safe mode. No dice, hung, i then tried to boot into win 7 dvd, hung on logo as well. Finally i unplugged my main hard drive (150gb raptor) and bam, booted into the dvd. So i'm thinking my main drive failed but on the off chance something else weird was going on i unplugged my 2nd drive (2tb wd) and bam, booted into win 7 dvd. So now i was officially confused. I kept the wd 2tb drive unplugged and tried to boot into windows and bam, booted just fine. So what's the deal? My culprits are ps, then maybe the wd 2tb drive, and finally the mobo.

Computer Wont Boot / No Longer Find Hard Drives

Ok i've totally ruined my computer, messing about with it trying to get the internet to work better on it i decided to format the hard drives and install windows from scratch. Done this before in the office at work and it was simple enough. Anyways i did it and now when my computer boots it says it can no longer find my hard drives, so cant install windows or do anything. It just keeps going round in circles and every time ends up at the same point saying windows cant find any hard drives to install to and restarts. Anyone know what i can do?

Emachine - No Boot Disk

I've been working on this old emachine for a woman down the street and i finally got it running but it's acting a bit strange. She called me up today and said it tells her she has "no boot disk". Now, i know i was just there and had windows xp boot up. So i go there, turn it on. And boot up normally. So i make sure everything else is working. I turned it off and on a few times, everything was normal. I left and an hour later she calls me back. "It's a black screen that says "no boot disk" on it". She says she didn't turn it of/restart or anything. I'm trying to get a handle on what's wrong here. I can't get a handle on it because i'm never there when something goes wrong. It's a 3100+ sempron with 256 mb ram and a 100gb ide hdd. Integrated sound, network, and graphics (chrome s3 i think). Any ideas? Is it possible that her psu is shutting down and resetting her boot settings? I'm sure the hard drive has a recovery partition (but that should also be bootable). Maybe her psu and the motherboard batter are both hosed. I don't know anymore lol. Any ideas are appreciated.

Use Usb As A Dos Boot Disk

Is there any way to make this work? I can get it to boot from it, but the only commands i can get to work are fdisk and format. It keeps searching for files on my a: drive. Is there a way to modify the .ini files so i can create a fully functional boot disk? I'm trying to completely eliminate the need for a floppy drive. Also, is there a way to make a bootdisk that can format with all the popular file systems such as ntfs or linux file system?

Hard Drive Light Blinks Every 2-3 Seconds

I was sitting across the room and noticed my hard drive light was blinking every 3 seconds. It's a stedy, every 3 seconds. It doesn't seem to be doing anything major, just lights up. Does it allways mean the drive is being accessed if the light blinks? Why would the drive be doing this?

I usally shut it off if i'm not going to use it, but started to leave it on. I am not usally sitting across the room not useing it, so i don't know if this just started or has been doing it for a long time.

Boot Up From Usb Floppy Disk Drive

So i need a floppy drive. I do not have a power dongle, the small one on my antec neopower 480 for a floppy drive. Someone at microcenter told me that there are power dongle converters for floppys. But i was wondering, since i need to install my sata drivers off an a: drive when i boot from my xp c. D. Will a usb floppy drive could act exactly the same as an internal one? Can i boot up from a usb floppy disk drive?

Floppy Drive Disk Boot Failure

Just built my own computer, and i cant install an os because the computer doesnt seem to find the floppy drive. I have connected the floppy drive to the motherboard with a 34-pin connecter, and i have the twisted end plugged to the floppy drive, and the long end to the mb. I noticed that one pin on the floppy drive (the second from the side) is missing.could that be the problem or should it be like that?

When i start the computer it says after counting the memory and all that, "verifying dmi pool data. Disk boot failure, insert system disk and press enter".

Hdd Not Found On Boot = Disk Error

I recently received a western digital 160gb, as a replacement for a broken western digital 120gb, from western digital. However on boot the hdd is sometimes not found and instead a little clicking noise can be heard, which in turn leads to the primary slave not being found and then a disk error. Usually if i simply turn it off then back on again, then it works fine however sometimes i have to do this multiple times, sometimes i have to turn it off and leave it for a few minutes and sometimes i have to open the case and push all the cables into the back of the hdd and dvdrw a bit more. To me the cables don't feel as though they've come loose and so really this is an exercise of ritual rather than anything constructive, yet it seems to do the job. Once the hdd is recognised the pc works fine and dandy but i'd like to avoid this failure as it is happening more and more. Is this an issue with the cpu, data cables, power cables, hdd, dvdrw, ram?
My system is an asus pundit w/ intel 2. 8ghz, dual 512mb ram, western digital 160gb, sony 8x dvdrw.

Pc Wont Boot With Disk Drive Plugged In

Ok so recently ive been having issues with my optical (cd/dvd) drive. First it wouldn't boot with any disk in it, even if it wasn't a boot-able disk. I figured that out just by taking the disc out. Simple right?

Now my pc will boot past bios and display the post message but will not go into the operating system. I changed my boot order to do hard drive first and it still did the same thing. So i had a hunch and unplugged the power cable to my disk drive (ribbon cable is still attached) and it booted fine. Does this mean my disk drive is going out? Or is it maybe just that plug on my power supply?

No Bootable Device Insert Boot Disk Press Any Key Hp

The day before yesterday, i turned off the pc using windows vista menu > shut down. When i turned it on, after the hp logo, it shows a black screen with the following error: no bootable device - insert a boot disk and press any key. I already tried to load bios setup defauts, did memory and primary hard disk self tests (they were ok), changed the boot order (f10), but the error message persists. I did the reset procedure, which i unplugged the battery and the ac charger and keep the power button pressed for 6 seconds, but it didn't worked either. I tried the (f11) recovery mode, but the error message persists (i do not have the recovery discs to boot from the disc). I tried to boot from windows xp disc but it stays forever on the press any key to start from the cd message. I tried to boot it using another os cd (ubuntu) but it asks to update the bios. I do not have vista dvd (it did not come with the pc). What else can be done? How can i solve this problem?

I generally monitor the condition of my disks and i have not noticed any significant change.
