Computer Is Shutting Off During The Windows Load Screen
Replies: 14 | Post Date: August 28th 2009 | User: Jsn723 | Forums: devhardware.comSo i ended up upgrading to an amd x2 6000 and getting an hd4850 as well. Windows 7 was also installed by a friend on my computer. However, my computer is shutting off during the windows load screen at the same time, like right after the windows colors icon forms together and glows or whatever. I have an antec 650w truepower power supply that is maybe 3 years old at the most. Also, i have been monitoring the watts and they are all stable and all less than . 20 different than the norm or whatever each thing is supposed to be.could the ram i bought be bad and is shutting down the computer? Temperatures are all fine as well. I just find it weird that it turns off during the exact same time but will sometimes randomly let me get to windows if i keep trying. A fast response would be appreciated, especially if it is possibly bad ram since i think the last day to exchange it at frys is today for me.

Windows Xp Computer Keeps Shutting Down
I turn the computer on and in less than five minutes it just shuts down. No warning, no errors. I can even be working in a window. I opened the case and thoroughly cleaned out all the dust bunnies. Device manager says there is no problems. I'm running:
Xp pro sp2
80g hd w/ 40g free
Radeon 9200 series
Amd sempron 2600+ 1. 83 ghz
1g of ram

Computer Freezes On Boot - Long Time To Load Windows
I was having issues with a game of mine hard locking my pc. The only way to get out of it was to hold down the power button and force the pc to power down, then boot back up. Trying to trouble shoot the game, this happened several times. Then, it started freezing on the memory test. It's not really freezing, though - if i leave it sit for a very long time ( 5 to ten minutes ), it will eventually boot into windows. Any ideas?

Pc Goes To Xp Load Screen Then Into Blue Screen
I have a laptop that when it boots it goes to the xp load screen for about 2 seconds and then a blue screen of love. I ran a linux boot disk to try to trouble shoot it but we couldn't get it to see the drive. I bought a sata 2. 5 drive enclosure and hooked it up to my other computer with the laptop drive in it and it can't see it. The drive gets warm but thats all. I pulled my other laptop drive out and put it into the drive enclosure and it worked fine. What can i do? What options do i have to see if this is still a good drive? Does this mean the drive is dead? Do i need to load drivers? Can i force mount it? Any thoughts?

Xp Hangs At Windows Is Shutting Down
Model is everex xt5300t, i just bought it. It came with vista but the notebook only had 1gb of memory, so i wiped and reload with xp. Then installed all the drivers and now my notebook won't shutdown/restart. It hangs at "windows is shutting down" and have to hold the power button to turn it off. I have pinpoint the problem and its the wireless drivers. I have downloaded the ones from everex and also the ones from windows update. Computer Freezes On The Windows Loading Screen
I went to use my computer today and noticed that there was no sound. I checked all of the physical connections which seem fine and then rebooted. After rebooting the sound came back for a while but then gradually increased in static before failing again completely. I reinstalled the ac 97 drivers (it's an onboard soundcard for the asus a8n-sli mobo) to no avail. I also had the entire computer lock up twice and reboot itself while trying to fix the sound. A few reboots later the operating system would run normally for about 2 seconds before completely locking for 2 and repeating this pattern. Task manager showed me that the cpu was alternating between ~ 5% usage to 100% when it would lock and back and forth in the 2 second pattern. I completely shut down the computer and when i attempted to boot back into windows, my computer now freezes on the windows loading screen. The bar will move across roughly 10 or so times before freezing completely! If i try a reset, it will not even detect the drive that windows is installed on! It will only reappear if i power the machine off and back on again!
I am able to boot into windows in safe mode, and i tried using system restore and msconfig to turn off all of the startup services and programs but i am still unable to do a normal boot into windows. I also tried doing a repair install of xp and the repair installation will get to the installing drivers step of the installation before abrubtly rebooting and attempting to continue the setup in an endless loop. I am currently running chkdsk /r in the windows recovery console but i'm somewhat doubting this will fix the problem.

Screen Freezes When Load Browser Page With Flash Movie
When i load a browser page that has flash movie, or if i load up guild wars, then the computer will completely lockup, the screen freezes, mouse/keyboard dont work, hard drive light is one solid color, and it remains like that forever, until i turn it off and back on. The weird thing is when i hit the reset button it actually wont make the screen freeze go away i hear/see the cd drives doing the power reset, but the frozen image still remains on the screen!
But when i power off and power on, it boots up again. Sometimes it will freeze again right away, other times it will happen after say 10+ hours of use. Anyone know what could be causing this? Mem test reported 0 errors. Prime95 wasnt crashing either. I'm thinking maybe its the video card?

Unable To Load Windows, Partial New Install
During bootup, case lights come on, including blue cathodes, fans, etc, i get no beep codes, the screen initially flashes the indentity of the vid card installed, then goes to intell splash page, then to the unable to load windows screen with many options such as boot in normal mode, safe mode, etc.computer specifications:
Mobo - intel 865perl (new)
Cpu - intel p4 2. 4c boxed (new)
Memory- corsair 3200 ddr 1024mb twinx dual channel (new) (1 stick each installed in channel a raid 0, channel b raid 0). Video - gainward geforce fx5600 128mb ddr, ultra 760 tv/dvi. (New). Hard drive - wd 40gb
Power supply - icute 430watt (new). Only things on mobo right now are cpu, mem, video card. Board has current bios (verified on intel site). In bios, verified cpu, memory, etc. I've had problems with "no signal" on other builds, but those were memory problems. The twin corsair sticks are installed properly, 1 in channel a raid0 and the other in channel b raid0. The bios recognizes them (1024mb) as well. Any ideas on why i can't get the os to load?

Laptop Won't Load Windows Xp
Yesterday i dropped my laptop (ah!) On a hardwood floor. I have a toshiba satellite m100/m105. As soon as it dropped the screen went black and basically the power to it went out. This worried me, but then i just pressed the power button on the computer and it restarted and seemed to work fine! Until i restarted my computer again today because the internet was locked up. Anyway, so i restarted and a black screen came up that said windows was unable to load correctly and to run windows as normal, run in safe mode, run how it was run last time it run correctly, etc. And i chose each of these options at least once and each time it brought me back to the same black screen. I'm not sure if it is a software or hardware issue or if it even has anything to do with me dropping my laptop yesterday. Does any one know what i should do? Should i check to see if it's hardware related before i run a system repair? Should i bring it in to a professional and have them look to see if it's a hardware problem or is there a way i could check for "lose connections"?

Computer Shutting Down
A couple weeks ago, i decided to upgrade my pc case. I got an nzxt trinity case with 400w psu, and upgraded to 2gb of new ram at the same time. Prior to doing this, my computer was working fine, and i frequently played battlefield 2 for hours on end with no problem. I moved all the hardware over to the new case, and put the temperature probe in between the cpu and the heatsink and installed the new ram. I did noticed that when i mounted the atx mobo, it needed to flex a bit when i was screwing it down. It seemed like the case had a bit of an "oil can" effect on it, causing the mobo to flex about 1/8" in height when tightened down. I don't know if that could be a problem but thought it was worth mentioning. So, after getting everything set up, i had problems with the computer shutting down while playing bf2, and even while doing things like photo editing. I then found out that putting the temp probe between the cpu and heatsink was a bad idea, so i moved it. I continued to have problems with the pc shutting off. So then i thought it was either the ram or the psu, so i put the old ram back in problem continued. So, yesterday i bought a brand new antec psu and got it installed today. I got everything hooked up, plugged in, started it up and did my test - played bf2. It lasted about 4 minutes until the pc shut off. I double checked the heatsink on the cpu and it is seating firmly. So, i've put the old ram back in, and put in a different psu, problem persists. I have plenty of cooling, 120mm fan in the front, 120mm fan in the rear, 80mm fan on the side, 80mm fan on the cpu, and after the shutdown, just to check, i was able to touch the heatsink on the cpu and it was just moderately warm. What the *** is going on?

Computer Keeps Shutting Off
I started playing fallout 3 on pc, it was running fine, but eventually it would crash, and shut down my entire computer 10-15 minutes into a new session. I thought it might be caused by fallout 3 itself, but this has since happened with a variety of other games (young and old), so it's not a problem exclusive to fallout 3. What hardware would have the capability of shutting down my machine completely during a crash? My first assumption is that the power supply is getting taxed more during gaming, and can't handle the load, in which case i just need a new power supply. I also can see how this might be caused by the video card overheating and forcing a hard shutdown. I wanted to see if anyone here might have a better grasp of what could cause a computer to completely shutdown. If it's merely a system setting in windows that protects hardware, i can disable that feature, although i expect it to be either the vid card or power supply.amd x2 4200+
Windows xp pro
2gb ram
Ati radeon 2600hd 512mb
400w power supply (likely the issue)

Windows Randomly Lock Up, Act As If Cpu Is Under 100% Load
I'll spare you the details, but my machine has become unstable recently. I was overclocking recently but one of these issues persisted before the oc. Since it's got weird my pc has gone back to stock settings which haven't fixed anything. Windows will randomly lock up, and act as if the cpu is under 100% load. It isn't. The pc will now poweroff after shutdown. The monitor switches off but the power/fan run to the cpu. When trying to image my c: drive to a backup it will always fail. I got a bsod last night trying this. I've ran chkdsk a few times and everytime it has found and "repaired" bad sectors. I booted into ms memory ram checker, no errors, the comp can still play games fine when i first boot up, it's afterwards thing get flaky, my os hard drive is pretty old, which is why i targeted that first. I've seen some abnormal temps coming from there in the past. How do i test psu to elimate that from the equation?

Video Card Beep Error - Windows Fails To Load
Last night my comp was making a loud beeping noise and it turned out to be my video card. So i boot it up, get all the screens and it eventually hits the windows screen with the options of safe mode, last known configuration that worked, and run windows normally. The problem is no matter which one i pick (done them all several times) it always does the same thing. The window logo screen loads where the little blue bar travels across below the logo usually meaning windows is starting up, but everytime it has that screen for about 15 seconds then a quick flash of the blue screen of death and my computer resets and does the whole process again?

Computer Keeps Shutting Off After Few Minutes
My computer was working fine yesterday, all day, and now i can't have it on for more than 10 minutes without it randomly shutting down. It's not a problem with the wall socket because my monitor stays on the whole time, so i figure it's a problem with the tower. Here's what i've done since last night:
1. Put the side panel back on. 2. Moved it to my dorm room. I haven't checked for any loose connections, but that could be it. I figure either one/some of the connections is just barely hanging in, or one of the parts is overheating. That could be because either a heatsink misaligned in transit to my dorm or the side panel is cutting off ventilation.

Computer Keeps Shutting Down Without Warning
I am running a pentium 4 1. 8ghz, 512 mb ram with windows xp. The computer works fine until i try to run an antivirus software or try to defrag the hdd. Then the computer shuts down without warning, only the power light on the front of the case and the num lock light on the keyboard stays on. It will not reboot normally. I have to remove all power, wait for 10 seconds for these lights to go off, only then can i reboot. Both cooling fans are clean and running well. There is no real overheating issue. The mobo is ibm p6 2001, chipset intel fw82801ba. Event viewer provides no clues. Any ideas how to fix this?

Computer Boots Up For Three Seconds Before Shutting Off
So i put my pc together (minus the ram and v-card, in shipping) and i tried turning it on to test the fans. The computer boots up and runs for all of three seconds before shutting off. It then proceeds to continually power itself on and off. Is this a shortcircut, a cpu issue, or just the result of there being no ram and vcard? It's amazing how much 7 years of inactivity can do to your pc building ability. Edit: the problem appeared to be poorly applied thermal paste. After re-installing the hsf, it stays powered on with no beeps.

Computer Is Shutting Down A Few Seconds After Starting
It was working just fine until i took my heat sink/fan off to clean. I put it back on and a tad bit of heat sink paste and now it starts up and runs about 5-8 seconds and shuts down.

Computer Randomly Shutting Off / Crashing
I've been having a bit of a problem with my new rig. I built it about 2 months ago (thanks to your guys' advice) and so far it has been working flawlessly, except for one thing. I have been getting completely random crashes, like someone pushed the power button on my rig. I'll just be doing something and "poof" the computer is off. Sometimes when this happens it will keep happening when i try to restart it at completely random intervals. Sometimes it will run for 30 seconds, and other times 5 minutes. I have reset the cmos multiple times to no avail. Here are my specs:
Evga x58 sli le int 1366
Diamond hd5850
Seagate 1tb hdd
Coolermaster haf-922 case
Antec truepower new 750w psu
Intel i7 920
Ocz ddr3 gold 6gb 1600

Computer Freezes Starting Up, Shutting Down, Standby
I don't know why but my computer has started freezing when its started up, shutting down, or coming out of standby. At start up it doesn't make it to the post screen, everything turns on and then just sits there, nothing shows up on the display. Same thing with standby. On shutdown it will freeze at the "windows xp is shutting down" screen. I have to either hit the restart button to get it to start up and come out of standby or i have to hold the power button for 4 secs to get it to shutdown. I didn't have these problems till about 1 week ago when i received my dell 2407wfp-hc, i doubt this would be the cause though.

Computer Shutting Off When Encode Video / Uncompress Files
Issue:- when encoding video, or uncompressing files my computer just clicks off. My core2quad q6600 is getting hammered through the process. My guess:- it was either a power issue, or a cooling issue on the cpu. Steps taken thus far:- i've unplugged a few optical drives, and anything else i could to free up power. Additionally i've opened the case to see if cooling may have been an issue. Neither of these have helped. I have checked my cpu fan it appears to be working just fine so at this point i'm not sure where to turn next w/o spending money to test. Its worth noting, this pc hasn't had any recent hardware or software changes and that i first started noticing the issue out of the blue last week. Its to the point where i simply cannot encode any video, something i've always done w/o problems. Any ideas where to go next? Like i said, i can replicate the problem every time when pounding the cpu, but i'm not entirely sure if the cpu is dying or if its power/cooling related. I'm sure someone here has experienced similar issues in their travels.

Why Wont Computer Load Wireless Networks?
Okay, i have a dell inspiron 910 mini. My computer was working just great when i had internet in the beginning of 2010. I had comcast for awhile, then i didnt have any internet because i stopped using their services. So no internet for months. Now i just got fios and ever since i was done with comcast none of my wireless networks loaded. Everytime i clicked on 'view available wireless networks' a message comes up that says, "windows cannot configure the wireless connection. If you have enabled another program to manage this wireless connection use that software. " And then it goes on about wireless zero configuration. I tryed turning on the wireless zero configuration, it didnt work. I then added my ssid and password. Then i finally had internet. Until i shut the computer down. Now when i load it up and try to enter my ssid it wont load the page that allows me to do so. I just dont know what to do now.

I have an evga 780i with a 500 gig hdd and an e6600 with 2gb of gskill ram with a fsp 500 watt psu. I tried it with my 260gtx and the computer turned on and lasted a little bit then shut off, i took card out and tried a 7900gs and did the same thing, now this psu only has a 4pin connector while my mobo has an 8 pin connector for the cpu, is this the problem?

Hardware Conflict, Computer Load Up Time Seems Longer Than It Should Be
I have the latest bios, drivers for everything (nvidia drivers for mobo, graphics card, monitor, sound blaster, etc) and updates for windows. I'm not trying to toot my horn here (well, maybe just a little hehe) but as far as i can tell, with these specs the system should be giving a fairly good performance. However, i have found that for one, the load up time seems a little longer than it should be. Secondly, game graphics have gotten choppy in some sections of far cry, and the fps in cs:source drops from around 90 to 10 when blinded by a flashbang. Up until a month ago i was using a xfx 6600gt and i wasn't getting this fps drop at all when flashed. I tried a test using 3dmark05 and ended up with a score of around 7, 500, which i gather is the average for a 7800gt?
Basically, as this is my first build, i am asking for any advice anyone might have as i feel i have missed something. Perhaps a hardware conflict or even just how the drivers have been installed?
Computer specifications:
Athlon 64 3500+
Msi k8n neo4 platinum mobo
2 gb corsair 3200c2pt ram
Xfx geforce 7800gt
Live 24! Sound blaster
550 watt psu
Windows xp home

Computer Displays Post Screen Then Went To Black Screen
My computer has been running sluggish for about two days now. Was searching the web the other day and computer just came to a halt and froze. So i rebooted the computer and then it wouldn't start up. It displays the post screen but after that it went to a black screen with a white bar at the bottom of the screen. Looked like a progress bar. Rebooted again but same thing. Popped in the os disc and tried a check desk and fdisk and it came up with some errors. Got to stage 4 of 5 on them and then stopped at 50% for hours. So today i started it up again and it finally booted to the windows logo and then finally to desktop. Took around 30mins to do so. Hard drive light indicator is always on for the most part and takes forever to load applications. Okay, i guess my question is this about to be a hard drive failure? Never had one so clueless of what it is but would think it would have something to do with the hard drive. Also before it froze the other day, applications started being really slow. For example it took 10mins just for the save file dialog box to pop up to save a file.

Windows 7 Screen Resolution
I have recently upgraded from vista to windows 7 and have a question about the new screen resolution. Windows 7's recommended resolution for my monitor is 1600 x 900, but that makes everything too small to read. The one i had with vista was ideal, but isn't an option on 7. When i go down to 1360 x 768, the size is fine, but everything is blurry. I made everything 125% larger, but that makes everything too large. Another issue is the internet. I use chrome for my browser, and i love it. When using it on vista, it was perfect, but now with 7, no matter which resolution i select, everything in chrome is too small. Even when things are 125% or 150% larger, chrome still displays things too small. There are those sidebars along every website, which are extremely annoying, and weren't there before i changed os. I know it's got to be because of the resolution, but none of the resolutions make things big enough and clear at the same time. As a new 7 user, i'm not sure how to fix this correctly. And as a little tiny question, does anyone know how to get rid of those preview windows when you hover over something in the taskbar?

Pc Freezes After The Windows Loading Screen
I put all the hardware together and installed windows vista into it. The computer boots to cd fine and it is able to install windows into the computer. The computer goes through the initial installation, restarts once to finish installing, restarts again to load windows and do the final steps of the installation, but it freezes after the windows loading screen (the black screen with a small bar showing progress on the bottom) after about 10 seconds of loading, the screen turns black. An artifacted white line appears at the top for 1 second, then turns black again. The computer freezes as this point as ctrl+alt+delete does nothing and pressing numlock/caps does not turn the lights on/off on the keyboard. This is what i have tried before running out of ideas:
-Tested the video card on a separate computer and it worked fine
-Removed the ram and attempted to boot the computer 1 stick at a time. It still frooze on the same screen. -Re-installed windows twice, the second time i re-installed i used a different version of the install (without sp1). Every time i re-installed, it failed at the same spot. So what else could i do? If my test were accurate, then this should point towards the motherboard/processor. I have no idea how to check if these are working correctly. I don't have another computer that fits the same cpu, or enough parts or an extra processor to fit on the computer.
