Cpu Fan Starts To Spin For A Split Second And Then Cuts Out

I just put together a new workstation, and when i press the power button on the front of the case, the cpu fan starts to spin for a split second and then cuts out and nothing else happens, no beeps, no post, nothing. Bad power supply or is something hooked up incorrectly?

Power Supply Fan Working, But Cpu Fan Is Not

I can not get the pc to boot. I turn on the power button, and the monitor does not get a signal. (Btw on board video & sound) i opened up the case to see that the power supply is spinning fine, however the cpu fan is not spinning at all. The heat sink was not hot to the touch however i did not have the pc plugged in for very long. I don't know much but i read somewhere i can check the power supply by plugging in an external fan to the power supply lead. So i did that, in fact the external fan worked fine. Also i must state that i do not get any thing on the monitor, only black, no beeps, no indication of post what so ever after i hit the power button. I have attempted to reset ram, and make sure all leads and cables were snug. How do i further troubleshoot? Can i rule out the power supply? Is it the mobo that has the issue? Or maybe the cpu? So to recap, power supply spins, power light on front of system lights up, no beeps upon boot up, cpu fan is dead and not spinnig. Any help would greatly be appreciated. Let me know if you need any other information.

Cpu 2.93ghz Seen As 2.2ghz On Computer Starts

I am building a testing server, and i installed a soyo p4vte socket 478 motherboard and intel celeron d 340 2. 93ghz processor - when i start the computer the cpu is read at 2. 20ghz. I'm not sure why it say this. I looked in the motherboard manual and it speaks of cpu clock frequency. I believe its currently set at 100, but it can be 133 or 200m. Is this why i'm having this problem?

The memory is 512mb pc3200 ddr 400mhz cl3. If someone know whats going on, please let me know.

Quiet Cpu Fan

Just like the title says, my cpu fan does a good job, as it is temperature reactive to increase rpm. But the sob is soooo damn loud. Anyone recommend me (personal experience preferred) a great cpu fan (80-92mm) fan with blue leds?

Cpu Fan Missing

Ibm intellistation 6217-46y, i am getting a repeat error in my post error logs that says: "cpu1 fan stalled/missing". I have updated to the lates bios level. I have set the fan speed to "intelligent", (as opposed to "always full speed") but they never stop running at full. They are definitely running. Does anyone have one of these machines? There are 2 fan sockets on the motherboard, plus one on the 2nd processor board. The second socket on the main motherboard is not used - or at least i don't have anything to put on it. Can somene verify if i'm missing some hardware?

Laptop ( Cpu ) Fan Gets Really Loud

Bought this laptop about 9 months ago, and it’s been perfect until recently. Every now and then, when i power up, the cpu fan goes crazy (i think it’s the cpu fan ?). It gets really loud and stuff during the bios checks and stays loud. When i eventually get into windows, the applications in startup take ages to load, and some don’t load at all, because one gets stuck or something. It’s really weird. Everything goes back to normal on the first or second reboot.

Cpu Fan Error Warning

On boot-up i get beeps with an " cpu fan error" & have to click on "f1" to continuous booting. "Real temp" shows 30c instead of 23-25 degsc it used to show. I reinserted the fan cable & fan spins freely. Any ideas about this?

I have a dell inspiron 6000 with vista ultimate installed on it. I recently noticed that while the pc is up, the cooling fan (or the cpu fan?) Is on about 80% of the time, even when the cpu is at 2 or 3%. Sometimes, i see this even when the cpu is 0%. Does anyone have any idea on what may be going on here?

Replacing The Cpu Fan In A Sentia 223

It seems like it's going to run me $80+ to get this part (exact replacement). The fan is a bi-sonic dc 5v 0. 28a cpu fan. The model number is bp38085h (or something to that effect). The fan is a 2 wire (red and black) but a 3 pin connector (middle pin is empty). Can i get a working replacement at a cheaper cost? Spending $100 on a free, older laptop doesn't seem worthwhile.

Emachine C1904 Cpu Fan Stops Working After 10 Seconds

I have a friends emachine c1904. I found the problem to the computer, it was the power supply and memory that werent working. I bought a new power supply and i used my memory stick and the computer booted right up. I scanned the computer for adware and viruses and i found a couple of minor things in there that i already erased. I went to check on the computer once again and now when i turn it on the computer the fan to the cpu goes on for like 10 seconds and stops working after that. Has anyone accured to this problem before.

Asus A8r32-mvp Deluxe, Cpu Fan Error

Basically i got a "cpu fan error!" Message every time i started my computer. My fan speed was good, a bit over 3000 rpm, so i just bypassed it and kept using my computer as usual. After a while the motherboard would beep sometimes and the computer would freeze for a few seconds. This happened more and more often until sometimes it would do that nonstop and i had to turn the computer off by holding the power button. So i go into the bios and disabled the fan speed monitoring. That doesn't help, i still get the cpu fan error message. Here's where it gets interesting: after much fiddling around with the settings and bios and whatnot, it still gets the cpu fan error but now it seems to be unable to detect my operating system (windows xp). It goes through the startup procedure and after the mobo screen it displays "reboot and select proper boot device or insert boot media in selected boot device and press a key. " The primary boot device is the hard drive, which used to have no problem starting up as early as this afternoon. (On another note, the cpu fan error seems to have stopped)

I just would like some suggestions as to what is going on and how i can fix this. I'm pretty sure i destroyed my os and will need to reformat or something equally silly. (By the way, i tried putting the windows cd in the drive and booting from that and selecting repair the os. It gave some error about not finding an os to repair. If you think it helps i can go and get that error text again. )

No Power Up But Mobo Light On, Cpu Fan Spins Briefly

I have a fairly old d915pbl motherboard that i've been using for years. I was using it until i wanted to debug a graphics problem on a different system. I took the graphics card out of the 915 for about an hour. When i returned it the system wouldn't boot. I took out the graphics card and it still wouldn't boot. The onboard led lights up (green) and the cpu fan spins for about 1 second. The onboard light stays on, but the front pannel light never goes on. I was initially worried that the psu died, so i tried a different psu on the 915 motherboard and the results were the same. I still felt that i hadn't eliminated the original psu as the problem so i used the original psu on a different system and the other system powered up fine, so the psu is good. Then i got worried about the front pannel "sw power" connector so i took another system and set it up next to the 915. I plugged the two-pin "sw power" cable from the new system into the 915 and attempted to use the new system's power button. This didn't help either. I'm not entirely sure this test was valid, so i tried the "short the power pins" trick and pressed a screwdriver against the two "sw power" pins, no luck, no power on. I'd like to buy a little power switch to see if that makes a difference, but i'm doubtful. I'm not sure what to do now other than assume the system is fried and upgrade the mobo/proc. I'm also not sure about the cmos battery. This could be a problem, but i read that ususally the bios will post and then complain about the cmos battery. I don't know how true that is though. Any suggestions would be appreciated before i replace the system.

Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro Cpu Fan Spinning Intermittently

My arctic cooling freezer 7 pro cpu fan is only spinning intermittently on my asus motherboard. I have an asus p5n-sli-e. The fan is plugged into my motherboard by the 'cpu' power socket (4 pin, not molex). The cpu power socket it plugs into works - as i was running another cpu fan on it just fine, and occasionally it will spin up for a few seconds but never any longer. Cant use this pc very much as obviously the cpu overheats which crashes the pc.

Split A Usb Cable

I was trying to split a usb cable so that my keyboard could give input to two things at the same time. Here's what i did: i had a spare usb hub and i plugged the keyboard into it. I then took 2 usb male connectors and hooked them up the output of the hub. I first tried to have only one of the +5v and ground hooked up, but it didn't work. I had to hook up power and ground on both usb heads. Can anyone tell me what i'm doing wrong?

In case i lost you here's a small diagram

Keyboard|split|y-split
Usb head|hub| usb heads
. /-]
-][
. -]

Btw: it didn't work with both devices. However it did work on one computer, but not the other. It's not the connections, because i unplugged the cable from the computer it was working on and it started working on the other computer. I probably did something blatantly obvious wrong. Can anyone point me in the right direction?

Split 7 Hard Drives Into 3 Computers

I'm trying to figure out how to re-shuffle my system - specifically the hard drives - now that i have some new parts in the mix. All the other hardware is taken care of (mobo, ram, video card, etc. ) I'd like to build a 1) gaming pc for me, 2) pc for relative, 3) htpc

Emphasis on performance for #1, reliability for #2, and space for #3. The hard drives i have:

(1) 60gb ocz ssd
(1) 74gb wd raptor
(1) 500gb samsung f3
(2) 640gb wd caviar blue
(1) 1tb wd caviar black
(1) 1tb samsung f3

All are windows 7 x64 and i have one each of ultimate, pro, and home premium. This was my first inclination:

1) gaming pc (ultimate, i750, 5850, 4gb): 60gb ssd (system), 1tb f3 (media/games)
2) relative pc (pro, e8400, 4830, 4gb): 640gb wd (everything), 640gb wd (backup)
3) htpc (home premium, 3800+ x2, 5770, 4gb): 500gb f3 (sytem), 1tb wd black

I'd re-use the 74gb raptor, but it's a little on the noisy side compared to the others and is so small (unless i used it as an internal backup for the ssd?). And my relatives have had bad experiences with external backup drives, so i figured i would just use the second 640gb drive to do scheduled mirrors/backups of the first. Any suggestions on improving the distribution of these 7 drives?

Mx 510 Mouse Cuts Out

I had an mx510 mouse (from logitech) and it began to cut out. Eventually, it got so bad that every ten seconds or so, it would cut off. Sometimes my pc (i have win xp) would play the noise it plays when you unplug a device and the light would go out (it's an optical mouse). Sometimes the mouse light would just go out with no sound. Sometimes a tooltip bubble would pop up saying that a device is no longer working. After it cut out, it would sometimes begin to work again on its own-sometimes not. If i unplugged it and replugged it in (it is a usb mouse), it would work again. For a few seconds or a few minutes. So i purchased a new mouse (mx518 from logitech) and it worked pretty well for about a week or so and then started cutting out as well. Thus, i believe the issue is that the usb mouse is not getting enough power (i tried 5 different usb ports-2 on my monitor and three on my computer, and it cuts out on all of them). However, i have what i thought was a good power supply (and its relatively new-like 11 months old: (enermax liberty elt500awt atx12v 500w power supply 90v~265v (auto adjusted) ul, cul, tuv, cb).could the issue be with my motherboard perhaps (abit ab9 pro lga 775 intel p965 express atx intel motherboard)? Any other ideas? I don't want to use the ps2 port or whatever. Is a powered usb port my only option (any suggestions for good powered usb ports?). I tried reinstalling the setpoint driver from logitech as well, but that didn't help.

Printing Cuts Off On Bottom And Right

Why is the window display on all of my printing preferences so large that it cuts off on the bottom and right? I am running windows xp sp3 - i've been running it for several months now, and this problem just spontaneously developed last week. http://i60. Photobucket.com/albums/h5/idksocrates/c350printingpreferences.jpg

http://i60. Photobucket.com/albums/h5/idksocrates/c350jobmanagement.jpg

http://i60. Photobucket.com/albums/h5/idksocrates/c350deviceoptions.jpg

As you can see, the options inside the window are sized up, making much of the content of the window go beyond the bottom and right sides of the non-resizeable window - sometimes making options completely unavailable. It's not even /all/ windows though - only the ones specifically tied to the driver. If you go to say, color management, http://i60. Photobucket.com/albums/h5/idksocrates/c350colormanagement.jpg?T=1268077043

Then it works just fine. But the problem isn't just isolated to the one driver. Several other printers display the same way:

http://i60. Photobucket.com/albums/h5/idksocrates/scansoftpreferences.jpg

While others don't:

http://i60. Photobucket.com/albums/h5/idksocrates/c762preferences.jpg

So as far as i can tell it's some kind of display error either for my video card or for windows itself, and it only manifests for very specific printer drivers. In case it helps, i have an nvidia geforce 7050 / nforce 610i card/driver. I'm in the middle of trying to update that driver, which is a bit old - if anyone has any suggestions in the meantime, i'm all ears.

Internet Cuts Out, Router Crashes

I am in the uk and have ntl internet. It is the slowest broadband they do and it is running through my ntl set top box. I ave that connected to a netgear wgr614 v3 router. I have one computer connected directly to it, and three running wirelessly off it. It has been working fine for all these years, and generally speaking, i am happy with it. More recently with the connection of the third wireless computer, i have installed bittorrent on it. I like the program but it is causing lots of problems:

Whenever downloading something the internet cuts out within 5 mins. I then reboot the router and it works find for about 1 min before cutting out again. I am using the latest of shadows experimental version. I have managed to work out how to open the ports up to allow me to get the green light, by using the port forwarding but i have no idea how to get round this issue.

My connection is set up like this:

Wall - filter - phone/modem - router - computer/ps3
My modem - westell wirespeed b90-200013-04
My router - linksys wrt120n

Microsoft Wireless Keyboard Cuts Out When Gaming

Its a microsoft wireless keyboard 4000 (4000 or 5000, but im pretty sure its 4000), and it cuts out. Like in a game, if im holding "w" to run, i will just stop. I'll have to let go of the button and re-press it. It gets worse as the batteries die, but even when they are fully charged, it happens often. Nothing wrong with the keyboard when typing though, just gaming . Its a great k/b, the batteries last like 2 months in em. Is it a known problem with this keyboard, or is mine just stuffed? Also (im presuming its stuffed), do you guys know any good, cheap, wireless keyboards, that are reliable? (Preferably logitech or microsoft). If possible, one with a charger so i dont have to always recharge my batteries.

Spin Down One Drive In Windows 7

Since getting my intel x25-m, i've really been enjoying how quiet my pc is. I planned on using my older hard drive to store pictures, music, etc. , But i'd prefer that it not be running all the time. Is it possible to somehow set a specific drive to spin down after a period of inactivity?

Raid Drive Spin Down

So this is my first time using raid. I created a raid 0 array of 2x1. 5 tb drives and so far so good. I didn't see any big jumps in speed but that wasn't what i was looking for, i just wanted a large continuous drive. Anyway, the only thing that i cant figure out is how to get the drives so spin down. They run 24x7 no matter what. All the other drives that aren't raided in any way spin down via win7's hard drive settings and there are no settings to control that in my sata cards bios. Is there something special to do this for raid arrays?

Dvd Drives - Why Do They Randomly Spin The Disc ?

I've always been wondering why dvd/cd drives randomly spin a disc when it is in the drive. If you click on a folder on your desktop, and it stutters for a second, why does your dvd drive decided to spin the disc in the tray as hard as it can? Or why do they spin the disc as hard as it can during start up, even if the disc isn't being used?

Is there a way to turn if off the "random spinning"? Also, since they randomly spin the discs even when you aren't using them, for long life of the drive, is it better to remove as disc when you are done with it? Or does that cause more wear than just leaving your disc in?

And finally, when the drive makes loud grinding noises, does that mean it is on its way out? My 3rd samsung replacement is already doing this after 4 or so days of having it. I was thinking of buying a monitor from them, but i'll have to buy elsewhere. Only thing worse than $30 pieces of trash are $250 ones.

Pc Wont Boot, Fans Spin For 1 Second Then Shuts Off

I have just finished putting in all of the hardware for my new computer. I thought i did everything correctly, but when i turn it on, the fans spin for about 1 second and then everything shuts off. I know it is kind of hard to tell what the problem is, but maybe someone can. The mobo has a 24 pin atx input, but my psu only has 20 pin, so i plugged the 20 pin into the 24 pin input and the 12v into the 12v. I read that this should work. The only case cord i have plugged in is the power button dord. Maybe my psu isn't strong enough. Got any assistance?
