5870 Crossfire 4th Monitor

I can't get the second card to detect any displays. Has anybody else had this problem? I have crossfire enabled and i can see the performance increase in bc2 but only with 3 displays. I can even hookup the 4th monitor in place of one of the eyefinity monitors and it detects it. I have tried dvi and hdmi in the second card and neither works. Do i need to try the 10. 3 beta? I am currently 10. 2.

5870 Crossfire Performing Worse Than A Single 5870

I just bought 2 5870's today after much research and reading benchmarks they are the way to go, and i have installed them, and in crossfire they are performing, well under what a single 5870 should be doing. My 3d mark vantage score with crossfire is 14, 186. Yes, in crossfire, i heard it should be up near the 22, 000 mark. Also, in mw2 with settings maxed out and crossfire enabled, i am getting an average of 48fps, according to guru 3d it should be 128fps at my resolution with a single card, my old 8800gt's in sli were getting me 90+ and the 5870's should eat the 8800gt's allive and then some. I have the worlds worst luck, so if you guys could point me in the right direction that would be awesome, cause i really want to put my hard earned dollars to work as im sure you can understand.

Good Video Card Solution For A 3rd And 4th Monitor ?

I'm getting ready to ditch my x1900xtx, as seen from my other thread, and upgrade it. It'll be used for my 3rd and 4th monitors. Preferably in the $50-$150 range. My 3rd and 4th monitors are used for websites and movies (blueray). I use a 4870 as my primary on my 1st and 2nd monitors. On those, i do rendering, animation, and games, as well as movies. Since i'll be watching hd movies on it, would i need a good card, do you think?

I've been looking at a used 4770, and 4670. Do i need something better?

I've never done sli or crossfire, but do you guys recommend it? Is there a big performance increase?

5870 Crossfire Upgrade - Frame Rate Loss In Oblivion

I know i'm contradicting myself in saying i wouldn't purchase a second 5870 but my impulsive ass just had to rent an additional xfx 5870. I swear i went to frys for a different reason but it was staring me in the face! I thought to myself, i should know what future upgrades are in store for me if i stick with this 5870 and one day i decide to crossfire it right?

Well i spent several hours last night playing around with my dual 5870 setup and, i wasn't impressed at all with crossfire performance. 3dmark06 went up by 2k (wooo) from 26xxx to 28xxx. Crysis seemed a little faster but had severe slowdown at certain areas of the map (it was like as if i was maxing out the frame-buffer or something). But i mean even when it was faster, weren't not talking much, maybe like 20% at most. That's really *** poor scaling i'd say. I do like how it opened up new function in ccc called gpu scaling which corrects my hdtv 24hz issue without custom res but ccc is still one cluster of a gui and still buggy as ***. Sometimes crashes (have to re-run the runtime). Sometimes when i close crysis, it leaves my desktop messy looking, as if it's trying to apply all my aa & af in game settings to my desktop now and i have to reboot to correct this. And also ati for whatever reason has never rendered my desktop as crisply as nvidia. I have no idea, it's like the text isn't as clear but i was willing to put up with that if these cards were a significant upgrade from my old setup. Games take precedence after all. But worst of all, the biggest disappointment was. My favorite game, oblivion took a frame-rate hit! Meaning i got a better frame-rate with a single 5870. This is with 9. 12 /w hot-fix. I dunno $920 (plus tax) of an "upgrade in video-card power" and really it isn't proving to be much faster than my old dual 260 (216 cores). I know oblivion is a ridiculously old game but it really is the most important game for me and is what makes or breaks my decision making on an upgrade. Are there any other oblivion players in here who saw a frame-rate hit with dual 5870s? Btw, for those of you who have sigs turned off, i game at 1920x1080 on win7 64 with an i7 @ 4. 2ghz /w ht.

3 Monitor With Crossfire

I've been doing as much reading on this subject as i can. From what i understand. Crossfire no matter what will only let you use 2 monitors and will stretch (gamplay wise) the game over the two screens. I want three monitors for one computer. I am building i7 920 with two 4890s. From what i gather, to get what i want, i'll need the 4890s in cf to get the gaming performance i want, and i'll need an additional 48xx card to get the two extra monitors so i do not stretch the screen. I'll be using the acer h233h (or some variation of this model whether it's the x233, etc). I only want to game on one screen. For my business i have photoshops and proprietary printing software for my giant equipment, if i could game on the middle screen and have my photoshop/firefox/print program etc on the other two screens i'd be happy. To make this simple. In order to have 4890s in crossfire, not stretch the game screen and have three monitors i'll need another dual head card yes?

Xfx 5870 Second Monitor Issues

I have been having an issue on 2 different systems that have xfx 5870's in them. Under windows 7 x64, almost every time you boot the system, the extended desktop on the second monitor will not properly enable on a reboot. The system shows the monitor is enabled as an extended desktop, but you have to disable and reenable it for it to actually display an image. Has anyone else experienced this?

Asus 5870 Not Detecting Second Monitor

I've double checked all the usual stuff, drivers are good, card is good, outputs are good, cables are good. I just can't seem to get my 5870 to "see" my second monitor. I just threw it in my system, without a reformat, i used to be running a 8800gts 640. Anyone have any suggestions? I'm thinking its likely a reformat and reinstall of everything may fix the issue.

5870 Dual Monitor Problem

So today i finally got my new 5870 xxx edition

http://www.Newegg.com/product/product.aspx?Item=n82e16814150456&cm_re=5870-_-14-150-456-_-product

I had completely removed my old nvidia drivers, and installed the latest ati drivers. Installed the 5870 and right at the start started having problems with duel display configuration. Can someone please answer me, for duel monitors is the hdmi and the 1st dvi port (on top) are the once im supposed to use for this setup? Because using 2 dvi ports doesn't seem to work. The 2nd dvi monitor is always black, even if you only use a single monitor using 2nd dvi it doesn't work. Whats strange when both monitors connected via dvi on the 1st monitor when accessing catalyst the 2nd display is there, but doesn't matter what i tried it doesn't want to turn on, you can see in the options, but the monitor it self doesn't want to turn on, even tho everything is on for this setup to work. For now i got this setup working using hdmi to hdmi and 1st dvi to dvi connection, but makes me wonder if the 2nd dvi is broken or something. Or is only meant to be using using 3rd monitor. Just in case my monitors are dell 2408wfp 24" and dell 2407wfp-hc 24" (both of them work using 1st dvi connection and dont work using 2nd).

A Single 5870 Enough For A 30 Inch Monitor ?

About to order my new rig to coincide with the release of windows 7, i got most of what i want in there already figured out:

Phenom ii x4 965 (the 955 is only 20 bucks cheaper)
Msi 790fx-gd70
4 gb ocz black edition 8-8-8-24 1600
2 640gb wd caviar black in raid 0
Sapphire radeon hd 5870
Lian li x1000
Corsair tx850w
Samsun 305t 30 inch monitor @ 2560x1600
Prolimatech megahalems

I plan on playing games at max settings crysis/crysis warhead included. I am worried that at that resolution 1 5870 will not cut it and i am already over my budget by a solid 300$ to afford the second graphic card would have to wait for the end of next november probably. If i wait till november i might as well see what the new nvidia cards look like and just buy this thing post xmas (might get a better deal!). So the way i see it i can do one of two things, buy it now or buy an xbox 360 to tide me over till january and buy the best computer i can afford then! I refuse to pay 3300$ for a computer and not bbe blown away by the performance!

Monitor Doesn't Go Into Power Save With 5870

Does this happen to anyone else? When the computer is supposed to turn off the display, the screen goes blank, but the backlight doesn't turn off. I'm pretty sure it's not an issue with the monitor, since it went into power save mode just fine w/ my previous graphics card (a 9800gtx). I've got an nec 20wmgx2 if that makes a difference.

5870 Dual Monitor Screen Tear / Flickering

I just got a 5870 from 4870 and immediately noticed that whenever the automatic 2d to 3d clock jumps up to full 850/1200 there is a significant flicker to a tear in the #2 monitor only and when i use extended desktop. It is repeatable and only happens at that point. I graphed it and can see the vccd/vccd1 amp jump is from 2. 6a/4. 2a to 11. 4a/12a>. I am using a msi afterburner/rivatuner instead of the smartdoctor from asus that came with it because i had it with the 4870 and liked it and it also has the low the de-clocking limit at 600mhz/900mz instead of the other 157/300mhz. All the temps are low when this happens 38-40c . No problems at all on single monitor though there is significant throtling up and back for the vccd volt/amp and the clocks. All the time there is not more than 30-40%gpu use. I can reproduce it easily by just scrolling up and down some web pages. When the 2d is flat line (600/900mhz) no problems and when i am in a game or max gpu use no 2nd monitor issue. I have done every switch and combo, hdmi dvi, both dvi ports dont know. It is like a recurring short. Like a lap top i had where the wear on the hinges causes some shorts to the panel but this screen tear or flicker is fast and easy to pin point. Though the vddc amps jump up and down, the gpuz graph looks like a comb or gap tooth smile, the volts are steady flat line during the clocks and amps jumping so the regulator seems ok . I dont know why the amp draw is dropped so low even when the clocks are at 600/900. If everything stayed level there would be no screen tear. Even with the bouncing around there shouldnt be that effect in the 2 monitor for extended desktop. I know there are any number of other people with the issue , i have gotten no response, nor have they , from amd/ati , asus either and have posted at those forums without any corrective experiences. Some suggestions for similar types of problems but nothing for the same . I am using win7 x64 bit home premium. Many other people , not all though, are 7/64 as well though some xp and vista 64 too. I should have enough power i just put a thermaltake xt 750 in and i used a mushkin enhanced 580 with the 4870 and no problem. I had the 580 running this as well till last week and never had a power problem, never had any problem. I built this last nov and have kept up to date with the drivers, put in ccc 10. 2 last week, gigabyte m4a79xtd evo, asus eas5870, phenomii 3. 4 (oc 3. 77 not for testing)965be, gskill ddr3 1600 pc12, 800, 2x samsung f1 750s, xigmatek s1283 cooler, thermaltake xt750, win7 x64 home prem, hp 1270dvd/cd24xsupermulti, liteon 8xbd/dvd combo, cm rc 690 4 scythe s-flex case fans 1sine intake , 3exhaust- top/rear . The card and case are well cooled and heat has not been an issue for this problem, i would appreciate any insights as to what i might do to correct this. I have tried just about all i can think of, some suggestions, remove and reinstall directx with sdk version someone said helped a like situation but heat may have been related to his. Mostly just trying process of elimination. Have taken off or disabled software to check on conflicts. I use the 2nd monitor to keep tool sets or other utilities so i can keep the larger screen in tact or in 2 parts. I tried to make a group but with different size monitors it just isnt right though might be a fix for someone with the issue with twin displays.

Ati Radeon Hd 5870 Crossfirex With 1600x900 Monitor Display

Do you recommend ati radeon hd 5870 crossfirex to a 1600x900 monitor display? Well, only one thing matters when you're wondering whether or not this graphics card will work with that monitor is the amount of ram (known as vram) in the graphics card. But trust me, two 5870's will have more than enough vram on your graphics card. Just make sure you're are getting a very high end amd processors at least. But i would recommend a mid-range to high-end i7 processor so there is no bottle-necking the graphics (that's where a certain part isn't able to use its full potential because of another part. An example of a bottleneck is the two 5870's paired up with a sempron processor, idk any idiot who would do that, but that an example of extreme bottle-necking). I'm not sure what graphics card you have but theoretically, with to radeon hd 5870's, you could run up to 6 monitors with the 5xxx series eyefinity feature. It would be pretty awesome to run 6 monitors at a time!

2 X 4890 Hd Crossfire Issue

So i've bought a new computer with the following specs, i've run into numerous problems, maybe some of you can assist me in figuring out what to do. 1. Every couple of restarts, my computer will go to a bsod, say i have a display driver issue. I'll try to boot into safe mode, reinstall the drivers then on reboot, i either get the bsod again or i get to the windows start up page and it freezes. To get around that, i've done 5 clean installs of windows 7 and it's very very annoying. I have yet to experience it on this install but who knows. 2. I am running the newest cat drivers (9. 11). My games are running terribly. In particular, modern warfare 2. I turn it on, its fine at the menus, the second it gets into rendering in game graphics the graphics card (i think the primary display one) begins to click and then slows down and clicks some more, but slower. Moving my mouse over the menu is jumpy and laggy. The second i move my view to the sky where it doesn't need to render much, the video card clicking speeds up incredibly fast but my menus run flawlessly. I've reinstalled the game twice now, the drivers thrice and to no avail. 3. The video card sees so heavy activity when i am just surfing the internet. When i scroll
Up and down 5 times back and forth, the fan speed increases and my activity in the ati overdrive panel soars to 97%. Does any one know whats wrong? I'm ready to sell these video cards and go to nvidia. Evga x58 sli
I7 920
12 gig ram
2 xfx radeon hd 4890s
1. 5 tb hdd
Windows 7 profession 64bit

10.1 Crossfire Eyefinity Report

3840x1200 res, system in sig, gpus clocked to 850/1100 core/mem. Crysis warhead: works! Activity on gpu1 and gpu2. However, this game really requires 2gb of framebuffer per gpu for eyefinity resolutions. I turned shaders down to gamer and left everything enthusiast at 2xaa. Performance was great throughout below thunder, but from ***'s heart was noticeably starved for memory bandwidth ( character starts the level riding on a train through the jungle. The level hiccups, with fast performance accompanied by 2-5fps slowdowns as you pan the view around the screen. ) I backed down to single monitor and the game absolutely flies 1920x1200, 4xaa, everything enthusiast. Dirt2: does not work. Game launches in 1920x1200 and when the eyefinity resolution is selected, screens turn black, although both gpus show activity after the resolution change. Batman aa: does not work. Game launches and runs in 3840x1200, but only gpu2 shows activity. Probably a non issue since the game doesn't require dual gpus to perform at peak.

Crossfire Two Ati Hd3870s

Crossfire With Radeon Hd 4870x2

Im going to buy a ati radeon 4850 and wanting to crossfire it with 4870x2. Which should i put as my main vid card (putting it on top?) Or does it matter?

Do u just stick each of them in a pcie slot and they are good to go?
Do i update their drivers separately?

I might go with a nvidia 280. Should i buy another one to crossfire them? (If even possible with nvidia or diff term for it. )

Edit: also, what kind of power supply wattage would i need for this setup to work? And do i have to get some crazy heatsink/fan for this to last?

Nvidia Card On A Crossfire Board

It's been a while since my last major upgrade and graphics technology seems to have moved on a bit! My current board supports agp and i don't really know much more than the basics about sli or crossfire. I've just bought a xpertvision 8500gt sonic which is sli and i want to get the ga-965p-dq6 gigabyte board and although it's pci-e it's also 'crossfire ready'. Will my new card work in this board? Will it work but not very well? I don't want to use two graphics cards anyway. If it won't work, or it will work but be cak, can anyone suggest an sli board that is equal in spec to the one from gigabyte?

Is Crossfire Compatible With Multiple Screens ?

I run a triple-monitor setup. Currently this is run by a geforce 7900 gt and a matrox g550 pcie. I'm thinking of a new system (to run windows 7), and might get some new cards as well, probably two crossfire capable cards (looking at the hd4850)

Now i was wondering about the following:

- Is crossfire compatible with multiple screens? Can you run 2 screens in crossfire at the same time (i'm thinking supreme commander here, for instance)
- Will i be able to run crossfire and connect all three screens, or will that be problematic?
- And of course, how to best to connect them all?

I've been out of it all for a while (as you can see from the 7900 gt), so any advice is welcome.

Adding X1300 To 4850 Crossfire, Driver Issues

I currently run 4850 crossfire. There are a few issues iíd like to fix. -I canít overclock the cards while using dual monitors. If i overclock even one mhz the screens will start to flicker and the display driver will fairly promptly crash. I understand that this is an issue with the idle clocks on the cards and i can fix it by using a custom bios that keeps the cards at 3d clocks, but i donít really want to load a custom bios on the cards. Right now i can only overclock when using a single monitor. -Although i use 2 monitors right now, iíd like to add a 3rd. I can only use more than two monitors with my 4850ís if i disable crossfire. So i picked up a x1300 pci card. My idea is that iíll just use my 4850 for my main monitor and have the x1300 handle both the 2nd and 3rd monitors. Hopefully this both allows me to overclock my 4850ís and run 3 monitors. My problem is that it seems the newest driver for the x1300 is the 9. 3. 1 legacy driver:

http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownload/windows/legacy/pages/radeonaiw_vista64.aspx?Type=2. 4. 1&product=2. 4. 1. 3. 7&lang=english

Any customers using a combination of a ati radeon hd 2000 series, ati radeon hd 3000 series, or ati radeon hd 4000 series product with any of the legacy products listed above in a single pc system must use the ati catalyst 9. 3 or earlier driver. All future ati catalyst releases made available past the ati catalyst 9. 3 release will not include support for the legacy products listed above or any of the features associated with those legacy products. That has me a bit worried. The 9. 3 driver would probably work fine on my 4850ís but i like to stay current with my driver just so that i can have the best crossfire support in games. On the other-hand, could it just be that those are vista drivers and they are referring to the vista limitation of not being able to load multiple video drivers?

I was under the impression that you could, for example, have an ati and nvidia card running side by side in windows 7. If that is the case it shouldnít be much of an issue running a newer and older ati card, right?

Do The Evga Classified 3 Or 4 Way Mobos Support Ati Crossfire ?

I have been doiresearch and i have been told both ways that it will and will not support ati cards in crossfire. It promotes nvidia all over the place and they even integrated the nf200 controller, which i'm not sure what it's used for. Doesn't it have something to do with the pci-e slots?

I'm going to look through their site again to see if i missed anything. The weird thing though is i don't see any reviews or negative cons stating that it *doesn't* support both sli and cfx. One would think that that would be a con considering the fact that their competition would be the top x58 msi mobo and foxxcon one and asus rampage ii and i think i ran into another one that looked very tempting. They all support both. So once and for all, can someone clear this up for me?

Edit: i just answered my own question after researching a long time. Once i post my question i find my answer. There's one mention in their faq's here. Question / issue

Which ati video cards will the x58 motherboard support in crossfire?

Answer / solution

The x58 motherboard will support all crossfire capable ati cards in a crossfire configuration. I guess a follow-up question would be, would using ati crossfire'd cards have any decrease in performance compared to nvidia cards? I don't know how to ask the question. How do i put it? Ah, is there a drawback on using ati cards over the nvidia cards? Ati cards are fully fully supported, right? They didn't do anything to damper ati card support/features?

Just curious cause i *really* want to use crossfire with this mobo. Any *why* not say anything about supporting ati cards? Do they have some kind of contract with nvidia or something?
