Bsod During Sata / Xp Pro Install

I installed it all in the same lian li case i have always used. The problem is, everytime i try and install windows xp pro it blue screens everytime it passes the first screen. It will do the usual driver installs at the bottom, past the f6 and f2 prompt, but will blue screen before it gets to the "welcome to setup" screen where it partitions and formats. This is my first experience with sata, so i have been googling like crazy but have not found any solution. I tried removing ram to a single 2gb stick, and swapping it with other sticks. I plugged the hard drive into my xps and formatted it - it showed as healthy. I have also tried to perform the windows xp install using the xps with the same blue screen result. I ran the data lifeguard utility to check for errors, in both fast and slow, and it showed no errors. I used data lifeguard to format it as well in a 80/912gb partition. I have plugged the former 40gb ide hard drive into the system and it worked fine. The options in the bios are:

Sata raid/ahci mode (intel ich10r southbridge)
Enables or disables raid for the sata controllers integrated in the intel ich10r southbridge or configures the sata controllers to ahci mode. Disabled disables raid for the sata controllers and configures the sata controllers to pata mode. (Default)

Ahci configures the sata controllers to ahci mode. Advanced host controller interface (ahci) is an interface specification that allows the storage driver to enable advanced serial ata features such as native command queuing and hot plug. Raid enables raid for the sata controllers. Sata port0-3 native mode
Specifies the operating mode of the integrated sata controllers. Disabled allows the sata controllers to operate in legacy ide mode. In legacy mode the sata controllers use dedicated irqs that cannot be shared with other device. Set this option to disabled if you wish to install operating systems that do not support native mode. (Default)

Enabled allows the sata controllers to operate in native ide mode. Enable native ide mode if you wish to install operating systems that support
Native mode. I do not want a raid configuration, and have read that ahci will not work with xp pro. Not sure if this is correct?

I have pressed f6 during install and used a floppy to install the ich10r sata raid driver from the mobo disc and from intels site. Is there anything i need to do to the bios in between?

Tried changing the bios to raid and configuring it as raid 0 with a single disk (i read somewhere that this is possible) but it did not give me the "press " option to set up raid that the manual said it would. Possibly because it only sees a single disk. Tried disabling sata raid/ahci mode, but enabling sata port0-3 native mode. Tried different optical drives. Tried different xp pro disks with just xp pro, sp1, and sp2. Gigabytes web site is horrible, and only randomly lists the mobo, has no real troubleshooting and support hours stink.

Lost Data During Xp Pro Install

I'm trying to install xp pro back onto my system after a format of my 40gb master. It gets stuck at p3.sys. The disc is kinda scratchy so i am buying a new one (my dad gets academic prices). In the boot / formatting screen of xp pro, it says my 80gb slave is empty. I have evertyhing backuped there and never touched it with anything. Faulty read? There is nothing to my knowledge that would have formated it. I have over 50gb of music and all my important backups there, i sure as ***, hope i didnt loose it.

Win Xp Pro Keeps Failing On Install

I have no idea how to proceed. The hard drive and the windows cd are both fine afaik, seeing as i just installed windows on a dif pc with the cd, and the hdd has been running in a system up until a week ago when i pulled it! It always formats and starts copying setup files, but it stops at some percentage of the way through, usually around 30%, and says that a file can not be copied; retry or cancel installation.

Cant Install Win Xp Pro Through Boot Mode

I was trying to re-install win xp pro in my system since i am having loads of temporary internet files and even deleting through ie or manually deleting is not emptying space. I was using the system some 1 year back and since then not using it since shifted to laptop. So now when i try to re-install win xp through win xp cd through boot medium as cd/dvd, i am getting the following error, error #5009
Map extract error
Error decompressing map file. The system was halted. I tried many times and another time i had error something like "file xxxx is missing" or something like that. And one more time like "boot failure. Make sure proper boot device is selected" and one more thing i have c drive where windows in installed, d and f drive's where data is there. So i dont want to format entire hard disk and install win. So i prefer re-installing it in c drive. So what could be the problem?

1tb Freeagent Pro Sata Adapter

I've hardly managed to open the enclosure and i want the sata hdd inside replaced, because it's full of backup and it's place is in the closet. The thing is, i want to buy a larger hdd to take it's place inside, a 1. 5tb or 2tb seagate preferable but i don't know if it will be supported by the sata adapter inside. Some friends say it should be possibile 90%, but i can't be sure of that because i've seen on the market separate enclosures with gb or tb limit on the specs. I've tried this before putting a smaller hdd, but never a larger so i'm afraid that i'll buy for nothing a new hdd that won't work. I don't have a pc, only a laptop so i can't risk having it on my desk doing nothing. I'm out of money to buy another external, because the $ difference between that and internal is pretty big in my country and i also don't have a job anymore. If anyone know's if this is possibile to support or if anyone out there ever tried this before, even on lower combinations (eg: 750gb hdd on 500gb enclosure) please let me know.

How To Install Another Sata Hard Drive Into System ?

I'm installing another hard drive into my system, so i can put linux on it. When i opened the case i found out the the alienware system used sata not a regular ata hard drive. I never installed an sata hard drive with another one already in there. I'm buying another serial ata 15-pin female-to-4-power connector / serial ata adapter, which looks like this: and a sata hard drive, i also have extra serial sata cable which look like this, and i know go into the motherboard: but is that all i need? I'm confused on how the new hard drive is going to get power, or do i hook up the black end (14 pin) to the new hard drive then hook the 4 pin white part to the female port on the far right hand corner of the old sata hard drive already in my system and thats it? Or do i just connect the connect the black 14 pin into the sata hard drive then connect the white end to that hanging power cord by my ram?

Usb To Sata Adapters For Storage Rather Than Buy Sata Cards

I've read here where people need to buy raid cards or pci, sata cards to add more hard drives to their system. Well i am in the same boat, i have 2, 30g vertex in raid, 3, 1. 5tb samsung, and 1 sata dvd drive. All my sata ports are full and a sata card costs. Idk more than 50 bucks i guess. Why can't we just use usb to sata adapters? The speed is relatively the same, at least for just xfer of files and streaming. It can be put internally, and it's cheap. Usb to sata adapter kits usually consist of the usb to sata adapter cable and a separate power-brick for sata to outlet. You can buy just the usb to sata adapter for 1$ from overseas with free shipping. Mount some usb headers internally to plug a few of these cables and run the sata power from your regular power-supply, it can handle.

So whats the thought behind this? It can be relatively hidden(i like clean cases and you can hide most anything) is a cheap solution to an expanding computer case (can't usb do like 126 devices?) And speeds are pretty good. Again this is for internal installation, you would use your power-supply for power, and 1$ per hard drive for the usb to sata adapter. I have a spare 750 and 2x 500 segates lying around and a lian li v2000 (abs clone) i got the space, just don't have the connections! Thoughts?

Can't Boot From Sata Cdrom And Can't Find Sata Hd

Last night i built my dad a new computer, with two sata dvd-drives (but can only connect one with one of my sata cables. Apparently the motherboard manufacturer only likes to include one sata cable. My fault for ordering oem and not checking on the cable quantity. ), A wd sata hard drive and an ecs nforce 570 slit-a motherboard. Anyway, when i boot up with the windows xp cd in the dvd drive, it won't detect the drive and boot from the cd. Ok, i thought i might have that problem (never dealt with sata drives besides hd's), so i just plugged in an ide cdrom, but now it won't find the hd.

I've put raid drivers from ecs on a disk as well as wd sata drives on a disk and hit f6 when prompted in the winxp boot screen. The ecs drivers did nothing for me and the wd drivers said something about it being corrupt or something of the sort (sorry, can't remember exactly. So i've had no luck. I've also tried plugging in the original ide hd from his old computer but it immediately restarts when it should start loading windows. I had to go to sleep because i have work today, so i didn't fiddle around with it too much more than what i've explained above, and that's where i am now so i won't get to try anything for awhile.

Xp Bsod

I've read all the posts i can find on the net about the xp bsod, and can't solve the problem. I'm getting the 0xa and 0x50 errors randomly. Sometimes it lists an ati file as a problem, and sometimes not. I've tried formatting several times, using the outdated drivers that came with the cd, using the new drivers from the ati site. Nothing works. I don't think formatting for a 5th time is going to work.

Bsod

I've been getting a lot of bsods, about once every day. Sometimes it occurred when i was watching something on hulu, majority of the times it crashes when i'm not doing anything (when i go to sleep). I got fed up with it and decided to wipe it and reinstall my os. But now it has been happening even more frequently, about once every hour. I noted the error messages, and i mostly get "system service exception", hexadecimal error # 3b. Sometimes i get "driver_irql_not_less_or_equal". I googled some things but couldn't find any solutions that worked. I tried updating my drivers, uninstalling new programs, ran the windows built in memory diagnostic tool, virus scan. I also ran memtest86 and it came out clean. I'm currently running prime95 but after 6 hours, still no errors. Also, i do plan to upgrade to windows 7 next week, if that is important. Please help me figure out what to do. I can also get the minidmp files after prime95 finishes. I'm using the ultimate boot cd too, so if anyone has any other tests that you think i should run from that, let me know. My specs are

Gigabyte ga-ep45-ud3p
Intel core 2 quad q8400 yorkfield 2. 66ghz
4gb corsair
Western digital caviar black 750gb
Antec 650w
Evga geforce gtx260

Random Bsod

I just got a random bsod, didin't get a chance to see what it was about, just a bsod and a restart, this happened when i opened up firefox and was really random. I haven't had a bsod for a week, last one was when i was activating a game on steam, i clicked activate and bam bsod. Last one before was when i connected i disconnected a usb mouse and re connected it, instant bsod. I've checked my memory with vista memory diagnostics tool and it said it was ok. So basically in the month and a half i've had this pc i've had like 5 bsod's (some, i don't remember the reason for) my e7400 is stable at 3. 65, stable as in like 22 hours of prime 95.

Continuous Bsod

So, lately i haven't been able to watch a flash based video online(a la hulu or revision 3) without my computer bsod'ing, and its different almost every time. For awhile the bsod was the one related to drivers(irql not less than or equal. Or something like that), so i tried changing video card drivers, and that didn't do anything. I even tried changing video cards(scrubbing the drivers and then reinstall the proper ones of course), but i continued to get bsod's. A couple of times i got memory_management bsod's so i tried swapping out the memory, but the bsod's continued. I ran memtest and everything was fine. My last thought was that it was the sound driver causing the driver bsod, but i wasn't sure if that were right because i had been using the same sound driver for like a year or so without any problems. Either way i tried disabling the sound and playing a video, but it still bsod'ed. (I only disabled the sound because i didn't want to have to uninstall what i at least think is a perfectly functioning sound driver). I even thought there might be something wrong with my hdd, so i tried running everything off a different drive, but nope, still bsod'ing. Eventually i got tired of it so i wiped the drive. I tried installing w7 in place of xp, but no luck, still bsod'ing while watching flash videos. I even tried installing osx on it, but now that just freezes after watching a few minutes of a flash video. I then tried to reinstall xp, but when the installation gets to the installing devices part, it bsod's with the driver bsod i mentioned earlier. Does anyone happen to know why this is doing what it's doing? The only thing i can think of is that there is a problem with the motherboard drivers or something, but i'm not sure, and before i go out and get a new board(i really hate this one) i'd like to know if that's the actual problem. Ps, another weird thing is that flash youtube videos work fine. I've left a youtube video playing for an hour with no bsod's, but i can't go 15 minutes on hulu, revision3 or megavideo without bsod'ing.

Vista Bsod

I recently started getting bsod crashes with my system and eventually it would not boot at all. I was using winxp pro 32bit . I decided to go with vista ultimate 64 bit when i did the re-install. All of my hardware supports 64bit and vista so i expected smooth sailing. Boy! Was i wrong. This os upgrade was a nightmare. I did get all the drivers installed and i have no hardware conflicts in the device manager. This is where the problems begin and raise my questions. After shutting the pc down and re-starting, i would get a bsod just before vista reaches the spot where you would add your password. I thought it might be bad drivers, so i uninstalled and re-installed them all. I even tried an os re-install. All to no avail. I started removing hardware to see if it may be a bad card or something. All was going well. I finally got to the ram. I went through each stick in each mobo slot and they all booted the system with no problem. I ran memtest86 through 10 passes and the ram passed. This is where i get lost. I placed 2 sticks of ram in the first channel of slots and the system works fine. No more bsod’s at all. I added 1 more stick for a total of three gb’s. No crashes or bsod’s. The system seems to run slower with three gigs rather than two. I add the fourth stick and the system boots up. I have no idea why. I wait for the complete boot and then try to restart. Bsod on re-boot ! I remove 1 stick (doesn’t matter which slot) and the system boots fine. 64 bit systems are supposed to support eight gb’s i thought?

Does anyone have an idea of what else i should try?

Bsod - 0x000000d1

I was on my comp last night, no problems at all. Tried to boot this morning, and i keep getting 0x000000d1 irql_not_less_or_equal, but no particular driver file is identified, so i'm kind of stuck. I can use safe mode, obviously as that's how i'm posting here right now, but normal boots always get the error either at the login screen or shortly after logging in. I've disabled almost everything from my startup group, leaving kaspersky and a few other items. I was suspecting my vid drivers, so i ripped the ati software, but i still got the bsod after rebooting with no vid drivers installed. Any suggestions on what to try next, other than pulling drivers out of my system one by one? I tried sys restoring to a few days ago, when it was working, but no luck there either. Is there any way to read the minidump files and figure out what driver was causing the issue?

Ok so it was sunday morning and i turn on my laptop and would you look at that. Cant do anything blue screen. Does anyone know a fix to this? Or can anyone give me some input on the problem. A process or thread crucial to system operaton has unexpectedly exited or been terminated. Check to make sure any new hardware or software is properly installed. If this is a new installation, ask your hardware or software manufacturer for any windows updates you might need. If problems continue, disable or remove any newly installed hardware or software.
