Computer Boot Up Problem, After Power On It Stays 5 Seconds Then Freezes
Dell dimension 1100. O. S. Windows xp home edition. Problem:
When i power on the computer it stays for about 5 seconds, then there is a click and it freezes. Nothing shows on the screen – no logo etc.completely dead the green light on front of computer tower remains fixed on. I have tried following:
Disconnected memory card and reseated it, disconnected sound card and reseated (no more cards). Disconnected all cables to motherboard and devices and reseated them. Disconnect mouse, keyboard, monitor. But it never gets beyond the first five seconds of booting up. A few days before the problem came i saw the following warning message:
"Power surge on hub port. A usb device has exceeded power limits of its hub port". I have pursued this and downloaded a patch from dell to remedy this problem: but i cannot install the patch as i cannot get my computer going. Any ideas on how to solve this? Second could the problem be related to this ‘power surge on hub port’.

Randomly Freezes
So, for a while i've had this problem with my pc. It randomly freezes. (Used to randomly restart, but i turned that option off so i could see when it was doing). To date i have switched out the graphics card out for my old one, and the problem persisted, tried all sorts of combinations of my 3 hdds, and the problem persisted, same with the ram, and the problem persisted. First thing i did was do several trials of not using certain pieces of software. None of them seemed to cause the problem. I did a complete reinstall of windows, and the problem persists. Please, i am begging anyone to tell me how to fix it. What is wrong? Is it possible for it to be the cpu/mobo? I assumed it wouldn't start up if they were faulty. Edit: could it be an underpowered psu? A thought struck me, and i googled "underpowered psu symptoms" and found my symptoms. Mind you, there are the same symptoms with my old 250w, and my borrowed 300w. You know, with the same sort of regularity, etc. What's the verdict?

Computer Restarts And Freezes Randomly
I recently formatted my computer with xp and now its freezing and restarting randomly. I doubt that its a virus or trojan because there is nothing installed except the window updates. Before it restarts a blue error screen flashes, but it's too fast for me to see what it saids. My geforce 8800gtx idles at 70c, is that a normal temp? If you need any more info just ask.

Display Randomly Freezes When Watching Videos In Fullscreen
My motherboard recently died, so i had to get a new one, the gigabyte ga-ep45-ud3r. While putting my pc back together i also put in a new video card, an ati hd 3850 512mb. After reinstalling windows and my video drivers, now i have this weird problem where sometimes a video freezes in full-screen but the audio keeps on going. This happens on youtube, windows media player, vlc player, media player classic, everything. At first i thought this was a video card issue, but i also have problems where the sound will stutter three or four times in a row with the pc seemingly locking up before letting me work again. I wouldn't think a video card can lock up the sound like that. I originally had my processor and ram overclocked, so i figured that might be the problem. I put them back down to stock speeds, yet the problem still persists. So, i'm confused. Is the video card or the motherboard causing this problem?
Gigabyte ga-ep45-ud3r
Ati hd 3850 512mb
Intel core 2 duo e4300
2gb ddr2-533 ram

Mouse Randomly Freezing / Unfreezing
So for some reason within the last week, my mouse has been continually freezing up for 1-3 seconds then unfreezing. It does this every few minutes or so, sometimes multiple times within the same minute. I remember this happened to me before i just don't remember how to fix it. I tried updating my video card driver and reinstalled mouse drivers but that didn't help. Any ideas what it could be?

Keyboard And Mouse Randomly Stop Working
I recently put together a computer(my first build) and i had no problems with it until now. It's been working for a couple months just fine so i'm wondering if it's just something going bad. My keyboard and mouse randomly stop working, and most of the time it's while i'm playing world of warcraft. The keyboard stops working except i can still ctrl-alt-delete to get task manager, and the windows key brings up the start menu. The cursor still moves when you move the mouse, but clicking does nothing.

Mouse Jump To Corners Of Screen Randomly
I seem to have a very strange problem with my mouse. It will jump to all four corners of my screen randomly. In cs:s i will start looking at the ground and spinning really fast. It's gotten me killed a few times. It does this in both ps2 and usb. I tried another mouse and it worked fine, i think. I googled it, and all i could find was to update the driver. Same thing. Same jump to all four corners of screen. Do mouse drivers need to be cleaned, before a new one is installed? I went from hid compliant mouse to intellipoint(whatever newest version is). Do i need to uninstall the old drivers first? Stupid mouse.

Logitech V220 Mouse Randomly Stoped Responding
My mouse is giving me some hard time. The last few days it just randomly stoped responding and i had to take the usb dongle in and out for it to start working again and today it completely stoped working. I decided to open the dongle to see if there are any loose welds on the pcb but everything seems to be ok. Now when i plug it in the only thing i get is either no response at all or a weird pop up message saying "usb device not recognized" i'm sure the problem is in the dongle and not the mouse, coz when i wiggle it and plug it in at weird angles it gets detected but only for a few seconds. Does anyone have any ideas?

Wireless Keyboard & Mouse Stop Working Randomly
Got a weird situation here, happened about 2 days ago for first time but keeps recurring more and more often, forcing me to hit the power switch to reboot. My dell wireless keyboard and mouse (new batteries) will suddenly stop working almost entirely. I say almost entirely - on the keyboard the 'windows' key and 'ctrl+alt+del' still work, but nothing else. On the mouse the cursor still moves but the buttons don't work. Basically it leaves me in a state of limbo. All processes continue to run fine on the pc - often i've had music in itunes keep playing for an hour after this occurs (i was attempting to wait to see if it was temporary). I've checked my conflicts etc. In the audio & controller fields. Right now i've only got my wireless keyboard and mouse, don't have any others to try a test with. I can't understand why it would suddenly freeze up. It doesn't happen with certain software, it has been very random, i've been tracking every instance since it started. Any ideas?

Mouse Cursor Regulary Drifts And Shoots Randomly Across The Screen
Any optical mice that perform flawlessly? Im currently on my fourth optical mouse. Ive sent back three and am about to send back this new one which is a packard bell optical mouse. With all four ive experienced the same problems. The cursor regulary drifts and shoots randomly across the screen making it impossible to play games and internet surfing is touch and go as i often click pop-ups by accident. I thought these problems only affected wireless mice but it seems both types suffer. My brother also has an optical mouse and gets the same problems. This just isnt on when will a company address this problem. The market has been almost completely taken over. Ive tried fowarding my opinians to logitech, microsoft and packard bell and all have ignored me.

Usb Ball Mouse Cursor Randomly Jump Around The Screen
Basically, what's happening is, from time to time (usually every minute or so) my cursor will randomly jump around and hug the sides of my computer screen. I can move it vertically, but any attempt to move it any other way either doesn't work or causes it to jump around again. It's just recently started doing this (about two or three hours ago; i was using photoshop with my graphics tablet), and it even moves around when my mouse is unplugged or disabled, and disconnecting from the internet changes nothing. I've tried updating my drivers, even uninstalling them and letting windows reinstall the basics ones. I have uninstalled my tablet's drivers as well. Both avg and spybot turned up blank when i had them run scans, and i've gone through every option in the mouse menus, adjusting speed, precision, etc.computer is a desktop. Windows vista home premium 32bit, usb ball mouse.

Inspiron 1525 Touchpad Mouse Randomly Hangs To The Corner
I have a inspiron 1525 and the touchpad *** me off. At random times when i move the touchpad south with my fingers it makes a twist emotion and goes northwest. And when i just touch it the mouse randomly hangs to the corner? And when i move it in any directions, at random times it forms a x emotion movement around the screen. Is this because of the drivers? And did i mention i wasted 50 seconds to click the "submit new thread" button?

Mouse Intermittently Freezes During Gameplay
Here's what's going on, this system was running perfectly fine for about a year, then out of nowhere, the mouse would stop responding randomly while playing games. The rest of the system was fine. I could type, open applications and do everything with the keyboard while the mouse was locked up. I started by wiping the drive with windows clean, and installed just my drivers, wow and cs:s since those were the two games i was playing at the time. When that didn't work, i tried swapping out the usb keyboard and mouse for ps/2 keyboard and mouse, but the problem persisted. After a while of putting up with it, i noticed the northbridge chipset (nf4) fan was varying in speed. I replaced it with a thermaltake cooler with no luck. While i tried different things, i noticed that sometimes when my machine booted and listed the irqs for onboard devices, it would show usb with an irq, but most of the time it would show ' na ' for usb controllers. Then i gave up and picked up a cheapy ecs board with the same onboard periferals (nf4). I thought my problems were over and i started an rma for the board. Then while i was playing, the mouse locked up again and i could still use the keyboard and the system was responsive just like before. I borrowed a 7950gt from my roommate and tried that in the machine, but that didn't fix it. I noticed it wasn't that bad this time though. Trying to think of what it is that is different, i opened winamp and started listening to music. Almost instantly it got 10 times worse. That's it! So i pulled the x-fi sound card and fired up wow. I played for about an hour and a half when i started noticing it again. Only this time it wasn't nearly as bad. But i'm out of ideas. The os has no trouble booting, and had no trouble installing xp again. I let memtest86+ run overnight and it came up with zero errors. With that i ruled out cpu and memory. The only two things left in my machine are the psu and the hard drives. The drives are fairly old, but i'm hoping someone here has some advice that i could take before replacing the psu and hard drives.computer specifications:

When Using Mouse Computer Beeps And Cursor Freezes
Its nothing to do with any program but like when im using my mouse i just get some beeps from the computer like 1beep, 2beeps, 1beep then my mouse will freeze and i either get movement back and its all ok or the cursor freezes but everything else is ok, i will give 2 examples
1. I was on the desktop, msn messenger was dl'ing and i just finished updating direct x. The folder with everything i extracted i highlighted and tried to move then i got those beeps and the cursor froze, but msn continued dl'ing and then completed! I reset and installed it, wasnt even corrupt or owt. 2. As i was filling out system specs in user cp now, i went to click on the privacy thing if i want others to see my specs and as i clicked i got the beeps but i got movement back, then a few mins later as i tried to scroll down same thing but im still going. Now as im writing this im running blend test on orthos and 50 mins so far. Also i have speedfan running. - Ram? Maybe a possiblity but surely orthos would have shown that by now?
- Cpu overheating? But idle im 25 degrees and right now under 100% load im 40 degrees

Keyboard And Mouse Non Responsive / Freezes When Play Games
When i start playing a game, especially an fps, about every 1-2 mins the mouse becomes non responsive/freezes and sometimes the keyboard "joins in", for about 5 seconds. I haven't updated any drivers before the problem. Its really annoying when playing css i have fixed the crosshair on someones head an not being able to shoot. Looks like it happens randomly. - Vista 32-bit
- Dell keyboard
- Logitech mx518

Monitor Goes Dark Then Returns, Mouse Cursor Freezes Afterwards
I believe it is a thermal problem with the video card, but i'm not sure. After the box has been on for 30-60 minutes (or so) the monitor goes dark for a second then returns. This happens a few times and if it really gets bad (more frequent) the dark periods get longer that the monitor goes into standby mode then returns with the mouse cursor frozen that i have to reboot to get it back. I know it's not the monitor, it's the video card not sending a signal to it and somehow also locking up the mouse (keyboard is ok). This happened after installing s/w for a hp s20 photo scanner, but i don't think that is the problem because on my other bootable drive (in the same box) the problem is there but not as bad. It might be making it worse, but i don't think it is that easy. I'm also not sure it is the card itself, though it is the card that is not sending the video signal to the monitor.

Pc Goes Off In About 2 Seconds
Right so i put together my second machine (for a friend this time), plugged everything in to the best of my ability, and pressed the power button. The lights come on, the fans start spinning, then it all goes off in a matter of about 2 seconds. Can anyone evaluate what this problem could be caused by?

Power Shuts Off After Just 3 Seconds
I have just put together a new computer, the second one i have ever built, and when i go to start it up for the first time the power stays on for about 3-4 seconds and then suddenly cuts out, like it got unplugged. I flipped the power switch a few times and got no response. If i count ten seconds, flip the switch again, it will turn on but again only for 3-4 seconds. There are no beeps either. Everything in it is new, a new amd mobo from ecs "kt600-a", a new 1. 6ghz amd duron processor, new radeon 9200 256mb video card, new powermax 400watt power supply. I tried clearing the cmos, but still no change. I have all the jumpers set right as far as the cpu frequency goes, but i have no idea what it could be. I hope its not a bad mobo, because i got it from newegg.com and i can only return it for the same make and model. Any ideas?

Computer Reboots Itself Every 10 Seconds
Whenever i start my computer , after 5-10 seconds it just dies and shuts down. Then 5-10 secs later it reboots by itself, works for 5-10 secs before dying again. Then it reboots itself 10 secs later. I checked inside the antec p182 once and saw that just before it dies, the computer tries to get the cpu-fan going. But it moves an inch and then stops - 1 or 2 seconds later the computer shuts down.could it be my corsair 520w that is malfunctioning? It just feels really bad to finally have a new system and then this happens. I'd really appreciate any help i can get in order to fix this as soon as possible.

Computer Turns Off After 1-2 Seconds
After putting everything together the comp was ok and it loaded into bios. After 10 mins my computer just shut off and when i tried to turn it on, it turned on for 1-2 seconds then it shut off again. It keeps doing it repeatedly i hear no beeps or anything. Ive assembled everything over again and no solution. The cpu has new paste between itself and heatsink. The only thing i find suspicious is that my motherboard as something that shuts it off if it suspects the system is overheating. I dont know what to do. Please help, any information would be useful!

Computer Shuts Itself Off After 10 Seconds
When i turn on the power button the fans, leds, and hard drive turn on, but nothing appears on the screen. Then, 10 seconds later the computer shuts itself off. All this while no beeps come from the speaker. I've tried to reset the cmos with no resolution. My next step was removing all the peripherals, including the video card, but the symptoms remain exactly the same, in that it shuts off after 10 seconds. I removed the cpu and it doesn't smell burnt at all. I should add that there is a 5 month old antec power supply (i believe around 500 watts). So i'm going to assume its not the power supply. My question is weather the problem lies in the cpu or motherboard, or what other suggestions or help you guys may have.

Video Lags Every 20-30 Seconds
I am having a small problem with video playback. I noticed it for the first time last week. I don't remember exactly, but i think it was after installing a windows update for directx 9b. But i was also having some adware problems for the first time in months (which i recently took care of). The basic problem is that when i'm playing a movie, the video lags every 20 to 30 seconds. It'll suddenly slow down and then skip to quickly catch up with the audio. It's only a second long glitch but its quite annoying, quite often, and it just bothers me that its happening when it shouldn't be. It happens with no matter what sort of file (avi, mpeg, wmv, mov, etc), and no matter what video player (wmp, winamp, quicktime, realplayer). To try fixing this problem i've updated my latest video card driver and critical windows updates, got rid of every trace of spyware, virus scanned, downgraded back to directx 8. 1 with a directx downgrade program, upgraded back to directx 9a, rolled back to my previous video card driver, installed a program called "reclock" that someone told me might help, and went through a number of codecs, which eventually just screwed up the video even more, causing me to use system restore. Unfortunately, however, i cannot use system restore to go back before the lagging problem.

Switching On Computer, But After Three Seconds It Shuts Down
I press the start button on my computer (from cold) and the computer begins to start up - the hard-drive light comes on and the fans start - but then after just something like three seconds it shuts down again. If i press the start button immediately after the computer remains dead - i seem to need to disconnect the mains supply at the house power-point (i.e. Pull the plug out the wall), wait about 15 seconds or so and then try again. Sometimes the computer will start normally first time, sometimes i have to repeat the above procedure half-a-dozen times. Once running there is no problem - no power shutdowns whatsoever. I'm using debian linux incidentally but am not sure whether the problem is anything as "far in" as the motherboard let alone the software - though something is detecting the power applied to the computer and capable of timing its presence to some extent at least.

Computer Boots For 5 Seconds, Then Shuts Down
The pc was auto shutting down for a week or so, it would bring up the standby, turn off, restart screen option then shut down. About a week later it completely shut down. You can't boot it anymore. It will act like it's booting up but then shut down after 5 seconds. No activity on the screen either. No option to goto bios. It just shuts down before it gets to the first screen. The next night i go there to change the power supply. I change it with another 250w that i have from home and still, no go. So i start thinking it could be a ram problem. Went get some chips from the car and changed them, still no go. I didn't think it would be hdd, fdd, cd/dvd problem but i unplugged them anyways and still. Boot for 5 seconds then shut down. Nothing connected but a stick of ram and the power supply.
