Internet Randomly Disconnects
Replies: 2 | Post Date: 2 months ago | User: Retsssss... | Forums: answers.yahoo.comMy internet randomly disconnects? I used windows vista on my toshiba satellite laptop. Normally when i put the cursor over the internet icon at the bottom right corner it says "access: local and internet" (that's when internet works). But when my internet disconnects it goes to "access: local only" and i lose my connection. These disconnections usually last about 30sec but once it lasted up to 10-20min. Sometimes this occurs quite frequent, like once every minute. I know this isn't my isp's problem since my dad's laptop's (he uses xp) internet works fine. Can anyone tell me how to fix this?

Random Internet Disconnects
Okay, the problem: this has been going on for about a month now, but i figured it was just my router. However, since the downstairs pc, and no other laptop in the house appears to be doing this. 1) random connection loss. I will be playing a game, chatting, watching something, and all of a sudden it slows to a crawl, and then stops. If i watch my connection icon, it tells me i have five bars, suddenly drops to none, and restarts my connection. I can speed up the process if as soon as i see that my connections going down, i go to the list of available wireless options and disconnect my self, and then turn around and reconnect. My list of available connections does not change, all connections are still shown, including the one that i'm currently on that goes down. 2) lately i've been getting very slow download speeds. I've run pingtest and speedtest, both of which rate me average to high (a little less than 3. 5down, with 38 ping, and no packet loss), but if i say, try going to youtube and watching a music video, or downloading something from amazon, or saving an image from icanhascheeseburger to email a friend, my download speed suddenly decides to be anywhere from 30kbs to 1kbs or less. For a while i thought i was getting up to 900kbs, but on closer look, it was 900bits. I got better download speeds on dial up. Once again, this only appears to be affecting my laptop, no one computer in the house. 3) if i run the self diagnostics on my laptop, i will, perhaps 50% of the time receive a message telling me that my network cable is disconnected or damaged. I've only ever run this computer through wireless, so i have no idea why my network cable being unplugged or damaged would be an issue? I just tried running the diagnostic again and it couldn't find an issue. Part 2: what i've done to try and fix:
Updated drivers (they're up to date and won't allow me to update). Reinstall firefox (even after i had the same issue on internet explorer, i gave it a try. No it didn't help)
Up-to-date virus scan: clean (comodo anti-virus)
Up-to-date virus scan: clean (immunet protect)
Up-to-date spyware scan: 8 low-risk tracking bots, removed, scanned again and clean
Reboots: several times. Doesn't actually help. That's about the extent of my capabilities on a computer. I've done some research into my issue, and found people with similar problems, but haven't found my exact issue, so i'm hoping someone here can help me out. Technical info:
Asus model p50ij/p8ij series laptop
Pentium (r) dual core t4400 @ 2. 5ghz
4. 00gb ram
64bit windows 7 home premium
Atheros ar9285 wireless network adapter
Atheros ar9121/ar8113/ar8114 pci-e ethernetcontroller
Microsoft virtual wifi miniport adapter

Internet Disconnects When Leave Idle
Whenever i leave my internet idle (for example overnight) it disconnects. Then when i try to open the internet, "work offline" is checked under tools. When i click work online a dial-up connection thing pops up. (This all happened when i started using google crome, i have since tried firefox and back to internet explorer but it hasn't worked) ive looked into network properties and "allow the computer to turn off this device to save power" is selected should i unclick this option? Any other advice?

Computer Disconnects From Internet When Put On Standby
My computer sometimes disconnects from the internet when i put it on standby. Okay, when it comes back on, sometimes my internet has simply stopped working. The network connections page will tell me it's still working though. It says it can't renew the ip address when i try to make it repair itself, unplugging and replugging the internet cord has no effect, and if i try to disable and then enable it, it doesn't register that i've disabled it unless i shut it down and start it up again. Which is also the only thing that gets the internet working again. Does anybody have any idea what might be causing this, and what i can do to stop it?

Invalid Ip Address Disconnects Internet Every 5 Mins
My internet connection has been very unstable lately, and as i discovered, my "ip address type" seems to go from "assigned by dhcp" to "invalid ip address" every now and then. So instead of obtaining an ip address automatically, i manually put in a static ip, and that seemed to solve the problem for a while, but it came back. This time the thing goes from "manually configured" to "invalid ip address". And when that happens my ip address and subnet mask becomes "0. 0. 0". Hence my internet works on and off and it's really annoying.

Internet Disconnects Suddenly And During A Phone Call
My internet always disconnects suddenly and during a phone call. Have 2wire modem from at&t? Everday, my modem suddenly disconnects from the internet and i'd have to wait a few minutes for it to connect again. Sometimes, it would suddenly shut off and turn back on, which i'd have to wait even longer for it to connect back to the internet again. Also, when i use the phone, the modem disconnects and has to reconnect to the internet. Same thing happens when i end a phone call. This is really annoying especially when i'm downloading something or watching videos on the internet. What's wrong with the modem? Could the problem be with the phone line? Maybe the phone line is old? It's been doing this ever since i got it, which was probably 2 years ago.

Internet Connection Cuts Out Randomly
My internet connection cuts out randomly. For the past 2-3 months my internet has been very selective. It will work just fine some days, and others. I noticed that the "ready" light on my modem will blink when the connection dies, but it usually comes back within a minute then cuts out again
My connection is set up like this:
Wall - filter - phone/modem - router - computer/ps3
My modem - westell wirespeed b90-200013-04
My router - linksys wrt120n

Dsl Disconnects Problem
Dsl disconnects numerous times throughout the day? I work in a small office - 2 laptops, 1 desktop. We have a dsl connection. Last october the router fried when the building lost power and we have troubles with the new one ever since. Throughout the day every 15-25 minutes, the network connection goes down for 2-5 minutes. The problem happens mostly on my laptop, however my boss experiences this occasionally. However - when my boss is not here, and has his laptop with him i have no problems
I have a brand new - 2 weeks old - hp windows 7 laptop. He changed the network settings to be dynamic to connect to the 10. 0. 0. X network he claims the router is on. Today i started playing around and saw in the event viewer the following netbt error -
The name "workgroup:1d" could not be registered on the interface with ip address 10. 0. 0. 5. The computer with the ip address 10. 0. 0. 6 did not allow the name to be claimed by this computer. I don't know if this has anything to do with the chronic disconnects. Does anyone have a suggestion as how to resolve the issues i am having?

Wireless Connects And Disconnects Every Few Seconds
My wireless dongle has worked perfect. I have put windows xp on my pc as it is not working well with the windows 7. Reinstalled the drivers for wireless dongle and internet was sorted. But here is the prob it connects and disconnects every few seconds. I used the same dongle on xp before i actually upgraded to 7. I just don't get it. No problems with any other pc on network all working perfect. Router has even logged my pc so some where on my pc some thing is not working.

Netgear Dgn1000 Wifi Disconnects
I just got this new router dgn1000 and installed it successfully. My notebook can connect to it successfully, but when i connect with my zune hd or any other phone the wi-fi disconnects. I think it's when no data flows, because when i entered a page with the zune it loaded, but when i pressed another link it started to connect to the network again. When i downloaded something with zune, the download was completed, but right after that it showed me "not connected". How can i change some settings or do something else to prevent this disconnections?

Windows Vista Router Disconnects Wifi Connection
When using asus laptop it can connect wireless router (sky adsl) without issue, if the desktop which uses the same router disconnects it disconnects the wireless function from the laptop. Even rebooting both router and laptop fails to correct the problem. I suspect this is an ip address issue.

Usb Problem - Pc Beeps Fast And Disconnects Mouse, Keyboard
When i plug in datacable for my w700 phone into any of the ports the computer starts to beep really fast and disconnects the mouse and keyboard, but the computer itself isn't frozen because i can still see the cursor changing shape. Restarting with the cable inside will result in freeze during dos (before getting into windows). I tried the cable on another computer and it worked fine, and my computer has already been using various usb components(camera, wireless adapter, webcam etc) without a problem. I've searched the internet for hours but can't seem to find the solution, has anyone ever encountered this problem or know what beeping and freezing mean when plugging a usb cord into the computer?

Internet Explorer Doesn't Connect To Internet
My internet explorer doesn't connect to internet?
Answer:- nowhere near enough information to give any meaningful suggestions beyond, "have you tried turning it off and on again?" Try it with both computer and modem/router. Other information you could've included would be:
Do other browsers work on the same computer? Operating system? Ie version? Has this always happened, or is it something that's just started happening?

Pc Randomly Crashing
Ok, ive already narrowed down this problem to either; faulty power supply, or faulty motherboard. Originally my pc was crashing on average about every 15 mins, i thought it may be my case shorting out my board, so i ran only critical devises outside of the case. No crash, removed the mounting screw that was shorting, it began crashing every couple of hours. It only crashes a couple of times, but it now crashes every now and then. This would seem to point at the motherboard, but seing as my case isnt in the best shape, and my psu is blowing warm air out the back, and contaisn more dust than you can shake a stick at. Well, that just introduces a 2nd party to the problem!
Can somebody point me in the right direction of furthur system testing, or some motherboard diagnostic tools?

I have had several pc's (which was self assembled) which restarts at randomly. It is mostly for office use, so i doubt that it has something to do with overheating.could it be something i do wrong while assembling it? Or could it be just faulty ram something like that?

Randomly Freezes
So, for a while i've had this problem with my pc. It randomly freezes. (Used to randomly restart, but i turned that option off so i could see when it was doing). To date i have switched out the graphics card out for my old one, and the problem persisted, tried all sorts of combinations of my 3 hdds, and the problem persisted, same with the ram, and the problem persisted. First thing i did was do several trials of not using certain pieces of software. None of them seemed to cause the problem. I did a complete reinstall of windows, and the problem persists. Please, i am begging anyone to tell me how to fix it. What is wrong? Is it possible for it to be the cpu/mobo? I assumed it wouldn't start up if they were faulty. Edit: could it be an underpowered psu? A thought struck me, and i googled "underpowered psu symptoms" and found my symptoms. Mind you, there are the same symptoms with my old 250w, and my borrowed 300w. You know, with the same sort of regularity, etc. What's the verdict?

Computer Randomly Shut Off
Certain actions cause my computer to completely shutdown. Occasionaly going to a blue screen and sometimes not. The actions that cause this include playing certain video games, watching videos, and other actions. Regular web surfing does not cause a shutdown. Somebody mentioned to me that i could have fried my r. A. M or something. I really have no idea. My computer is a p4 with at least 256 ram maybe 512.

Computer Going Into Stand By Randomly
I recently removed the old 20gb hard drive i was using and replaced it with an 80gb drive. Installed xp, my drivers, games, etc. Without any problem (also installed sp2, which i didn't have before). But then my computer started going into stand by (or it might be hibernation, it doesn't actually say) mode at random times, even when i'm using my computer. Of course first i checked the power options to make sure it wasn't set to go off. Then i checked the bios, and reinstalled my mobo and video card drivers. But none of that solved anything. My next thought was it could be the power supply, but i don't know how to check if the ps is going bad. Any suggestions on what else i could check to solve this.

Computer Shutdown Randomly
I built my computer a few years ago and have had no problems (p4). Today it decided to shutdown randomly. I tried rebooting but it would turn on like it was going to start but bios would not post and it would shut down after about 5 seconds. My first inclination was that it was a failing power supply. Replaced that without any luck. The odd thing is that when i plug in both power components from the ps to the mobo it turns on and after five seconds turns off;
Yet, when i do not have the 12v 4pin plugged in, the computer stays running, although it does not load windows. I checked the ram, light on mobo is on, nothing smells fried, i'm hoping it is not the mobo.

I built my computer a few years ago and have had no problems (p4). Today it decided to shutdown randomly. I tried rebooting but it would turn on like it was going to start but bios would not post and it would shut down after about 5 seconds. My first inclination was that it was a failing power supply. Replaced that without any luck. The odd thing is that when i plug in both power components from the ps to the mobo it turns on and after five seconds turns off;

Monitor Will Randomly Go Black
The problem that is occurring is when i play wow, my monitor will randomly go black, but my computer stay on. All of the sound and background apps such as ventrilo will cease, and i am forced to restart my computer via the restart switch. This started occurring a few months ago, but it went away. Unfortunately it is back again. I've already restarted my computer about 6 times in the past hour, and have tried a lot of things including resetting the cmos, re-seating both my ram and video card, even changing some bios settings, all of which didn't do anything. I haven't tried any other games then wow, but i'll start up bf2142 or cs:s and see if it does it. I'm not certain as to what would be causing this "black screen" to occur. Maybe it could be the power supply? Ram? I've already determined it's not the video card, as i put my old 6800 in, and it still occurred. What's weird is that i just got burning crusade, and i played it all last weekend from friday - sunday with no problems.

Computer Keeps Randomly Locking Up
I can be surfing the internet or listening to music and my computer keeps randomly locks up and when it does it i have to switch it off at the mains and back on again. I have tried removing the cmos battery, reinstalling windows. I have also tried a new power supply but still it makes no difference.

Computer Randomly Turns On
My comp is possesed. (You would know if you have seen some of the other problems i have with this comp too)
So my computer more or less randomly turns on during the day or night. Sometimes when i get home from school it is on (nobody uses it, and the screen is like it should be when it first turns on)
Sometimes when i wake up in the morning it is on. The only partial logical explination i came up with is that sometimes when i turn stuff on such as my bedside lamp it will turn on. Im thinking this has somthing to do with. I dunno. A small surg of power going into the comp when turning the lamp off making the comp turn on. Only problem with that is that my comp is plugged into a battery. Also somtimes it will randomly turn on when i walk by it. Is my computer possesed?

System Randomly Reboots Itself
System randomly reboots itself. Have replaced almost every part aside from vid card. Doubt vid card is the problem, works fine on another system.

Pc Keeps Rebooting And Randomly Locking Up
I've got a friend that i built a pc for. It now keeps rebooting and randomly locking up. It usually locks up while gaming, but has recently begun this while not gaming. We brought the thing to our office, where it did not lock up during over an hour of gaming and benchmarking. By taking it to another location, i have narrowed the problem to either the monitor, or the outlet the thing is plugged into. Question is, has anyone ever seen a monitor or bad outlet cause a pc to behave like this?
